Most of the time we accept that tacitly and chose our limits and our viewing options. This **** should not be included in a family show.
patsy ... i thought that women did the sexy thing these days in a more empowered way you know with a **** you attitude feminist thing, I thought rhianna conveyed a lot more than tits and arse . These women arn't scantily clad backing singers for some cock of an r+b/rap star (I hate that and btw aphex twin window licker did a good job of sending it up, you tube it) these are successful independent women with talent. It's like a yeah i've got a beautiful body and a strong sexuality and I can express it and have the right not to be touched...half the world is dominated by men who force women to cover up and be in their place. rhianna had this real air of untouchable strength about her. karen capenter used to stand there covered from the neck down in a flowery shapless smock looking like she'd just just been let out of the kitchen for half an hour to sing a pretty song. I dunno about inherant physical threat...girls have the right to dress how they want in safety.

I was waiting for this one. What a load of unadulterated b***sh*t. I'm not directing that at you personally, you understand, but at this hackneyed justification which is exactly what the fat middle-aged men who run record companies want you to believe. It's c**p. For me, what's happening in women's pop music is almost as insidious as those societies where women are forced to cover up completely. Not quite, but almost. It's objectification and exploitation and people can shout 'prude' as long and as loud as they want. The truth hurts, sometimes.

well there are a lot of strong female role models for young girls out there these days dressed or undressed... from politicians to pop stars. Behavior towards women shouldn't have to depend on how they dress. Anyway Patsy I'm glad you are here expressing your self and if there were 2000 complaints that's a significant amount of strong opinion out there, and I respect that too. x

I was about to respect your opinion, but you seem to have a different attitude if it is men doing it or Alexander Burke because in your words she is a 'product'.

Kind of flings the fish out the window, if you ask me.

I said she's a lovely girl, didn't I? Her performance is a product and, I'd imagine, her video differs not much at all from the performances we're discussing. I'd object to it as much as to Christina and Rihanna's performance. Because they are all products objectified by male music industry power brokers. The product is the victim. It's not a derogatory term, more an observtion. I don't want to watch any of it. It makes me feel ill, but, as I've repatedly said, I'm a mother and this is the entertainment of my children's choice. So, rather than just accepting that this is how it is, I choose to voice my disapproval.

It was a bit much for a family show tbh, I didn't have the urge to ring in and complain cos I realise that music videos etc are all like this but I thought it was a bit too racy (especially Christinas) for a show that's watched by a lot of young kids.

OK, but I get the impression it is OK if it was males to be doing it or Alexander because she's a 'nice girl'?

No, no, no. Crossed wires, I think. I hate that Alexandra's doing it, like I hate that they are all doing it. It's never a judgement on them as women, it's a judgement on the power brokers in the industry they work within. And I've clearly stated my view that it is COMPLETELY different to sexually objectify men; because while men do get raped and domestically abused, the OVERWHELMING physical threat comes from men and is aimed at women. This objectification normalises perceptions of women as sexual playthings. It's extremely, extremely dangerous. In my opinion, of course.

Remeber that advert where Duffy cycled through a supermarket, singing (and souding astonishingly like Orville)? I think it was for Coca Cola?

Ofcom received complaints about that becasue she wasn't wearing the correct safety equipment! .. Nuff said

Having said that I do think kids see too much suggestiveness and crudity on television.. My daughter LOVES Lady GaGa and I've caught her a couple of times watching her videos which in my opinion are just too raunchy for a 6 year old! FFS I see some 11/12 years old dressed like miniature ho's! I think kids should be kept as young and as innocent as possible.

I still don't get the fuss really, we've seen burlesque acts before on BGT and worse but there's never been that many complaints and all Rihanna did as strut around a bit. There's more sexuality in a shampoo advert then those performances really.

I'm not making a big deal about it really, I just thought Christinas was a bit much, my 6 year old covered his eyes when she was on and even Gav thought it was a bit too much. It doesn't bother me personally but you kind of cringe inside a bit when your young kids are sitting there watching it!

It's a family show but it's not exactly a kids show. This is what they do.

I know, I said that I do understand that, doesn't stop you feeling a bit uncomfortable though and my kids don't really watch music videos anyway. Luckily for me my daughter seems to have pretty good taste in music so far and isn't into the usual teeny stuff.........so far anyhow!
