The most 'cutting thing' ever said to me was on the day of my father's funeral. My mother was a hopeless alcoholic and had serious psychological issues.
My father'sdied in not the best of circumstances and there was no 'wake' - just a few close friends to return to the house. I refused to have alcohol served (for obvious reasons) and had asked those attending, if they agreed (they all did and they all backed up me 100%).
My mother spat out at me that she would never forgive me for not giving my father a proper send off and that I was a disgrace to him and her. She was sober at the time.
I don't think I'll ever get over the hurt that one small comment caused me.
S*** as they say, happens.
