He is actually right about that, I lived in Boston for a few months when I was younger and I lost count of the amount of "Irish" people I met. Maybe they only say it to Irish people though!

Yes, but most of them do claim it just because they have an Irish breed of dog or something or because they had Waffles for breakfast which have traces of potatoes therefore according to them - they're from Ireland.

Most of them claim it because they have ancestory from Ireland, yeah a small minority are deluded but its a tiny minority.

The plastic paddy phenomena is hardly as much of a nationwide epidemic as you're making it out to be, Paddy. Plenty of them genuinly have Irish roots. Plenty think the Irish are thick micks who still go around in wooden shoes. That's certainly not wanting to be Irish.
