Mark 11:25 (NIV) "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
As a way to test the veracity of the following points, let us consider forgiveness in the most radical sense we can. Think of something truly wicked that has been done to you or someone you love, not by accident or error but deliberately and with malice--where you have come right up against evil and the pain caused by it in your own emotions.
I think we need to remember only a small minority of Christians hold the view that gays are evil. As a straight catholic I find it sad that some people may think that every catholic has these views (TBF Im bordering atheism)
The worst part is that some gay people who may want to be straight will have false hope in this therapy.....

It's especially moronic when you consider that the majority of English christians will belong to the Church of England, something that only came about because Henry VIII fancied some different gash.

It disgusts me that people still think that being gay is an illness to be cured. Surely the government can see how damaging a media campaign like this can be to (as the article says) younger people struggling to come to terms with their sexuality?

I think its time that religious organisations stop trying to suppress something thats actually quite natural. Its appalling that this campaign isn't being stopped, because it represents something so deeply prejudicial.

I have read the four Gospels which supposedly record the ways and words of Jesus, who Christians are supposed to follow.
In not one of the Gospels is there one word or statement recorded as said by Jesus as to homosexuality.
Plenty about other things but nothing at all as to that, other things such as adultery for instance, he cast away completely, stating forgiveness for all.

How odd that we get others then who claim to be his followers who 'add' their own personal prejudices to things after that.

The Old Testament has a fair bit of condemnation as to homosexuality but the New Testament which is supposed to be about the teachings of Jesus, has nothing at all as to it in the whole of the four Gospels attributed to his words and actions.

It is really only Paul who brings back the condemnation of homosexuality and it would seem he sometimes got up in a morning in a good mood, preaching love for all then other mornings got up in a foul mood and got angry with most people.

I agree with Dezzy, organised religion, especially once it allows the embracing of prejuduces and bigotry of ordinary men/women is something to be disliked rather than respected.
It doesn't make for looking to be a very attractive thing to follow either.

These Christian groups are offensive!

Being gay is a choice for those who want to, like people chosing to be straight, transgender or bisexual etc and is no-one elses business but theirs and these groups must be barking if they think there is a cure for people being gay...

There is a worrying amount of these American type Fundie Churches popping up in the UK. I remember there were some converts in my year, went to a chuch of my mates too, they were really nice but weird at the same time. My mate was shuffling uncomfortably when the preacher was telling us that Christians should pity non-believers

Core Issues' co-director Mike Davidson criticised the decision to axe the adverts, saying: "I didn't realise censorship was in place.

"We went through the correct channels and we were encouraged by the bus company to go through their procedures. They okayed it and now it has been pulled.

"I would be interested to know on what basis they have done that."

Because it's actually offensive to some people?

I'd have let it go ahead, the public reaction would have caused more damage to groups like these then axing the adverts would have. By axing them you're giving them power. Let them make a show of themselves and let the public tear them down for it instead.

A Christian group is taking legal action against Mayor of London Boris Johnson after he banned bus advertisements suggesting gay people could be cured.

The posters, by the Core Issues Trust, stated: "Not gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it!"

The adverts were backed by Anglican Mainstream, a global group that says it is committed to the traditional biblical teaching on marriage, the family and human sexuality.

It is understood that organisation has instructed solicitors after the banning of the campaign.

The poster was believed to mock pro-gay group Stonewall's adverts that said: "Some people are gay. Get over it."

Just pathetic.

And seriously, as I said earlier in the thread, how come someone can be jailed for 50 days for making some racist remarks on Twitter, yet a large scale homophobic campaign like this is just brushed under the carpet? They are seriously pushing their luck if they think they can sue. Let's have a bit of consistency for once and imprison them for attempting to preach homophobic, bigoted beliefs.

I actually did some reading up on Scientology, just out of curiosity, what a completely bizarre religion it is. The stupidest part of it is L Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer who stated before he started the religion that the best way to make money was to start a religion

Sounds like a good idea Dezzy.

Religion should be a personal view, not forced on people
