I find Dexter entertaining, but I just can't 'buy' him as hetero. He seems a bit too femmy and camp. I can see him admiring the brand of jeans that Charlie wears rather than her legs and bum.

What about Dan and one of (if not both of) the twins? They are homosexual surely people would have an axe to grind with them aswell?

And for the record I don't actually dislike Dexter, I have never met him I have no right to have an opinion like that.

Indeed.

I really dislike speculating on housemates/celebs sexuality based on their behavior. I would rather take their word for it. As there is no definitive behavior for a gay person anyway, and to say 'oh hes gay as he wears pink socks' or something is very stereotypical.

My gut feeling is that he is bisexual. But who cares?

But they are still are different to how a lot of straight guys act. Watched Dan's boyfriend on BBOTS and fact is, he had obvious stereotypical gay mannerisms. I don't why some gay men I see get so huffy that women now can tell when they are gay.

Sorry I didn't elaborate on that.

I meant that there is no direct correlation between people disliking Dexter and other homosexual housemates. I don't think you can use that as a crux for peoples comments on Dexter.

Still don't get you at all. The only people in here so far that have said Dexter is gay are people who dislike him (as far as I know). Dan and the twin actually being gay has no bearing at all on what my point was.

But discussing them is part of BB and that includes sexuality. Yes, it does pander into separating gays from straights, but the fact is gay men are seen as different to straight men. As gays get more visible eg gay rights people will discuss them. If gay men don't want to be discussed then don't come out and act like Liam Gallagher and 50 Cent and no one will guess!

They shouldnt be seen as different to straight men though. I know straight men who are extremely camp, and I know (a large number of) gay men who arent camp at all and are very 'manly'. You wouldnt know they were gay if they didnt tell you.

As for 'noone would guess'..why would people guess in the first place? I really dont see why it matters, in the slightest. Besides 'pandering into seperating gays from straights'

I think that stereotypical views are just a lazy way for people to categorise and label others into neat little boxes. We are all more than just one "stereotype", our background, nationality, age, gender, sexuality, class, economic situation, etc surely would involve a lot of conflicting "stereotypes"

It's on my point. If the people who dislike him comment on his alleged homesexuality then you could be intimating that this is a reason why they don't like Dexter therefore they would dislike all homosexual's in the house.

You said the people who said he is gay are people who dislike him so are you saying people don't like him because they think he is gay?

Stereotypical but often based on reality.

Jack and Joe are twins, both pretty camp but it's obvious that Jack is camper and therefore more likely to be the gay one.

I know Daley acted horrendously but take away SH-gate, it would have been a stereotype breaker if he had been gay. Alas, it's Dan (and Jack) who likes Britney Spears and claps his hand rapidly like a seal when excited (straight bloke just would never do this). There are some behaviours that are give aways as a straight bloke would never get a shag if he did this. Even the way Dan dances just screams gay.

Lesbians are a bit harder to spot but as soon as Wolfy cropped up on screen on VT and opened her mouth everyone in room screamed 'lesbian'. May not be PC but when ever I see the gay guys parading down through gay pride wearing chaps with their pimply arses hanging out there's no way in the world I am thinking 'oh these blokes are soo straight'. Lets be realistic.

No thats not what I was saying at all. I am saying that those who dislike him seem to have decided he is gay. And as its only those who dislike him that have decided this, it appears to be being used as an insult...

But surely if someone used it as insult they would have a derogatory view of homosexuality?

It's easy to assume that way though. I am not for one minute saying you meant it like that but for example when you said people who dislike Dexter are the ones saying he is gay then you were meaning people including me (which is fine I can understand why you think that after I posted a topic about how less people support him ).

Now if you thought that I meant it as insult then I would think that you thought I had a problem with homosexuality which I don't.

Sorry if we got our wires crossed.

I think you're reading far too much into this Vicky. My "interest", though that in itself I fear is an exaggeration, into Dexter's sexuality is rooted in this new-found "love" for Charlie in order to get a storyline. Sexuality is key if this story is to be believed, and I also recall Dexter's tales, though likely equally bull****-based, of being a highly paid male escort.

I kind of find it hard to imagine any gay man as a giver for some reason.

I watched C4's Dinner Dates (real life first dates instead of BB) and there were 2 really camp gay guys. I just didn't know which one would have been the giver. Both with plucked eye brows, wavey hands and diva attitudes.

I do like Dexter as a HM but he talks about women in a text book way. Can't imagine he actually has bonked a woman. He seems kind of asexual which is usual a sign that a guy is not venturing into lady land.

But a lot of gay men...you wouldnt know it until they start necking on with a bloke in front of you. They probably 'act' a lot straighter than most straight people do.

Same as not all lesbians are butch...and you cant tell if a girl is gay or not just by their mannerisms...

I think its just piss ignorant to say there are any defining characteristics of a gay person tbh. Not everyone plays to stereotypes

I get way too defensive when people think camp = gay. Possibly because of my mates tbh.

The fact that you even speculate on this brings your own sexuality into question. It's a slippery slope, from imagining gay sex to viewing gay porn to going to gay clubs and eventually going the whole hog. One of my gay friends told me...

Do you really beleieve that all the Gays meet up in London and have a big GAYFEST? Yes there are people dressed as you described marching along, perhaps you also missed the many more who are dressed more appropriately.

You will certainly have missed the vast majority of Gay people who are anonymous in society, simply because they are not marked out as a GAY but as an everyday sort of person.

I am a Gay man, there is no such thing as Gaydar, I can only make ill informed assessments based on a stanger's behaviour, in which I am either right or wrong in classing a "straight" man as gay or a gay man as "straight.

In the end I would prefer to feel that I can categorise someone else, based on a good knowledge of who they are, not what the appear to be.
