I don't know about buddies for new members but a stock 'introductory PM' might be an idea? you could include a narrated instructional video of someone navigating the forum.
Maybe not for all sign ups but for those who have actually posted a certain number of times.

Well i only came to discuss Big Brother really, so whenever that certain series was over i wouldn't come back until the next series..until i eventually found chat and games and that kept me on for the next off season

also, I alway just went straight into the BB forum, I didn't know about New Posts or Todays posts and at that time the BB section was always so busy, I kind of never wondered about it. It was only when BB finished and things quietened down I started looking around

Nah, it's a Big Brother forum, last thing i had expected was there to be whole sections dedicated to sports, music and stuff.. If I had known I probably would have browsed a bit more

That's the key. That's exactly what I did, and the BB forum was what I bookmarked, so I had no reason to think a website called "thisisbigbrother" would have threads about how much Salman hates gaga.

If I was the boss of TiBB moderators would be elected (although the vast majority of current mods would probably still get the job)... and once they were elected they'd be armed.

No because when I discovered this place in like January 2007 and browsed for a year I had Googled something about Big Brother and clicked on a link that took me straight to the BB section, I had no idea what a forum was really being like what...11 LOL, but I soon got the idea and like Jesus did I bookmarked that page to go and read every so often, I just thought it was this one page/forum where people talked about Big Brother. I only actually discovered all the other sections by accident by clicking the TiBB logo at the top after a few months where it took me to the index and I remember I was like 'wtf is all this', has a browse around and realised what I'd been missing all that time

Move the Sports forum to the top of the index page above all of the others, go back to the old warning system, and add some football games to the arcade.

Delete the football forum no one cares about it anyway.

3 strikes and out rule would make the place a whole lot better.

Change the forum theme and main page designs.

The welcome thing although a nice gesture wouldn't work IMO a lot of members sign up and never post or post about 5 times then leave and it would be a bit daft sending a welcome message a lot later than that.

We do often let members know that we have other sections too.
