I think PAYG is good if you are a low user and don't want the commitment of a contract but generally PAYG is more expensive than being on a contract.
There are now two elements to every deal...the air time contract and the hardware contract. Air time contracts without any hardware (sim only) are less expensive than PAYG because PAYG charge you more for not making that monthly commitment.
