I always find rules like this astounding and actually pretty out of order. Confiscating a phone for the remainder of the day is understandable and above board, but surely there's got to be some legal issues with withholding someone's property (especially if the student happens to have actually bought it themselves) for such lengthy amounts of time? It's effectively theft.

I would find it hilarious to hear one day of a story in which a student has taken a school to court and won over an incident like this.
