Globally maybe, within Europe (and actually France, especially) there is a definite distinction, to the extent that French people will express feeling sorry for the Scots, being "stuck with the English". I'm genuinely not saying it to be offensive... my wife is English
... I just prefer accuracy and am not inclined to shy away from it for fear of hurting feelybobbers.
