Default Very strange how Christmas suddenly ends

I'm 34 and have experience of many Christmases.

I do find it odd how in all this build up we celebrate Christmas, but on the big Day, by 3.15pm, after the Queen's speech, people are already talking about booking their summer holidays and Christmas being over.

Until I was about 30, I still thought Christmas went up to January 2nd - yeah I know there are the 12 days of Christmas.

But in a lot of people's minds Christmas is over on December 26th.

ODD.

It's one of the things I hate, all the build up then you are not allowed to enjoy it as you are bombarded with sale and holiday ads it's been like this for years though Gusto

Oh, yeah, they start Christmas in October then when the actual Christmas season is supposed to be they've moved onto Easter and summer.

It's just the big prolonged build up and the sudden end.

I guess it applies to most events though just with slightly less of a build-up really. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing because it's exciting (doing all the planning, having parties, seeing family, buying gifts etc) but I do wish it went on for longer.

It's not quite over that quickly for me though.

Most people I know stay in the "Christmas zone" from the day through to New Year.

Then New Year's Day most people take their decorations down and are back to normal.

True, it just feels like you are being hurried along, when you walk into Sainsburys and the creme eggs are on sale

I always find the couple of days after doing something you've been really waiting for are quite depressing. It's kind of a reality check that good things don't last forever and you go back to normality.

When I look forward to Christmas, I look forward to the whole time off work not just the day itself

Yes when i was small the build up was not as big yet it went on longer , we would go to family and friends parties way into January, it was much more fun in those days , Christmas has gone ridiculously way over the top these days and people spent way too much on their already spoiled kids.

This. Christmas isn't just about 25th December but the season as a whole imo. For me it's pretty much once we've put the tree and decorations up and until they come down which is after New Year. I've always found it strange how long the buildup for Christmas is and how people pretty much start planning for it even before Halloween only to come Boxing Day and it's all over.

That being said though, I enjoy the buildup to Christmas much more than the actual day itself.

So actually it's more like Christmas now, on December 15th, than it will be in 11 days time.

The build-up is so prolonged these days (they start hammering it right after Halloween!) that I think by the time the day comes a lot of people are just feeling pretty much done with it . We took our decorations down on the 26th last year. Humbug.

Christmas for me begins on Christmas day not ends.
It runs until January 6th.

It has never just been about one day for me and I feel a little sad for some that it is just that.
