It's unfair. It's totally unfair. But it's not like the judiciary always gets it right.
For instance... Saleh Ibrahim Mabrouk who was charged with conspiracy to murder PC Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan embassy, was informed in 2016 that charges against him are being dropped for the sake of "national security" and that he's free to live in his five bedroom house in Reading and continue to receive handouts. While one of the SAS soldiers involved in freeing hostages from the Iranian Embassy is now living in a hostel, supported by friends, because his local council has not been able to house him.
