I think i may be mistaken but I don't believe Shane J has ever challenged Ann to change her views? He has went behind her back and talked about her and her views and while I can understand why he's annoyed, he's fighting a losing cause by trying to reason with Ann - she's not changing her mind.
As you said, stereotypes like that are gonna take
years to overcome. I do believe that seeing gay people on TV in shows (such as 'Bind Date' and whatnot) and adverts are making a step towards 'normalising' gay people into society, but it'll be a while before they're truly seen as 'normal'.
If everyone practised your idea, though, I'm certain that we'd be one step closer to being seen as 'normal'. Great idea
