I'm not saying he was right to give the message but I don't see how it automatically makes him so much worse than Brandi. What's he possibly meant to say in his message for someone he's repeatedly clashed with?

The fancying thing I thought was a joke and he wasn't even saying that at first, he was saying that her treatment felt like the childish way a girl would to a boy in school as if she has a crush on him. Fair enough if you think it's cringe but it's a harmless joke you may or may not find funny, unlike me who did because he was saying it about someone he didn't get on with. I doubt she'd have even took him saying that personally either.
