Being gay is only okay if you can pass for normal, being gay is only okay if you don't consider it a massive part of who you are, being gay is only okay if the gays minimise their gayness as to not offend others.

Gay people don't make themselves look like attention seekers for embracing their sexuality, that's just what people who are uncomfortable with gay people being comfortable with who they are think.
I wouldn’t group myself as part of lgbt because I don’t like the community and the way they go about acceptance but I am gay

And ffs it’s just a sexuality it shouldn’t have connotations or anything you don’t see people generalising straight people but you see people generalise gay people all the time at the fault of the community

I’m saying shut up about being gay because we have equal rights here so the next step is to normalise being gay. Making a big deal out of it isn’t normalising it, it’s making it a big deal in both, I guess you could say, positive and negative ways

Well said, better than I can say it.

To normalise something people first have to stop making it into a huge thing.

It's the reason children have no prejudices because they don't see any differences between people. It's only when others point out that another person is different or that person themselves screams that they're different that it becomes an issue.

For me it's a bit like India, before she went in BB I'd seen her news-reading, never knew she was transgender and always thought she was nice, then I found out she was transgender I was like "jaysus, fair play to her, she's a gorgeous woman, be good to see what her personality is like".

Then she kept ON AND ON AND ON about it until everyone in the house and outside got fed up hearing it.

She has since admitted herself that she messed up.

The key word is "we". We do

LGBT people in a lot of other countries? They don't. Far from it. So what's the issue with Shane J mentioning that places (even his home country) don't have equal rights?

Shane J has what people in countries that oppress LGBT people don't have - a voice. And while his preaching isn't solving those issues, it's certainly raising awareness. Other LGBT 'rolemodels' will be talking about gay rights a lot and advocating for equality in those countries

I mean I was talking relative to the uk since he’s tackling a uk politician in a uk show but i get what you mean. I don’t know I just wonder if there’s a different to go about it. Everyone is human we shouldn’t be treated differently for things we can’t control like sexuality, gender yada yada. In high school everyone used to assume gay people were the super flamboyant, in your face people that are annoying to be around, I guess stereotypes like this take years and years to abolish.

And even longer when the stereotype is reinforced on television all the time.

I think i may be mistaken but I don't believe Shane J has ever challenged Ann to change her views? He has went behind her back and talked about her and her views and while I can understand why he's annoyed, he's fighting a losing cause by trying to reason with Ann - she's not changing her mind.
As you said, stereotypes like that are gonna take years to overcome. I do believe that seeing gay people on TV in shows (such as 'Bind Date' and whatnot) and adverts are making a step towards 'normalising' gay people into society, but it'll be a while before they're truly seen as 'normal'.
If everyone practised your idea, though, I'm certain that we'd be one step closer to being seen as 'normal'. Great idea

So flamboyant gay people shouldn't be shown on television?

Some gay people are flamboyant and camp. Some aren't. There's nothing wrong with showing both. In fact, the last few times I've seen gay people on television before Shane J was on First Dates, and I can't remember one of them being camp

Unless you're referring to how fictional LGBT characters are very camp for the butt of a joke, then I'd agree

Totally, both fictional and real life. There's a fair mixture of both I'm sure, don't know now, but it's never shown as 50/50 or anywhere near it.

In the same conversations he's acknowledging that LGBT people now have those rights, despite how Ann has voted. Kinda like how he said "if Ann had her way, you wouldn't have a marriage" - he's acknowledging that the law has been passed.

When he talks about gay rights in general, it's clear he's talking about the place where he grew up (Australia), the USA, and plenty of other countries.

He did Like twice I think, on the sofas and in the party room thing when india was in the house. He’s talked about her stance on gay rights a LOT more behind her back at various occasions tho, and has enveloped it into being prude when him and Andrew were provoking her.

I think the thing is, a lot of gay people get enveloped in the lgbt community and surround themselves in it. In college my form tutor or w/e you call them tried to get me to join an lgbt group on the campus. I tried it out and a lot of the people there enforced that stereotype. When you’re young and singled out and you’re given a group of people like that you’re bound to become a part of it, I just don’t think these communities should be so separate because it puts a focus on gay people in both positive and negative ways. Both of which I think are bad like I don’t agree with positive discrimination.

So Ann's voting past has nothing to do with Australia and the USA, has it.

Let him put his own back yard in order first.

Did I say it did?
Ann is homophobic, and Shane J used her voting past as evidence against her. But for every time Shane J has brought up Ann's voting history, he's mentioned wanting equality and equal rights for LGBT people in general. So I don't see what your point is?

You know its not actually in the dictionary, right? I mean I agree it has a meaning and it can exist (under very unusual circumstances, so unusual that i doubt there has ever been a real example of this), but the word isnt actually in the dictionary, so get right off that high horse mate.
