'does he have the right to style it in a way that has a deep cultural meaning to minority cultures? The ability to style your hair for fashion’s sake is a luxury, not a right. If it is offending others, Goldstein should consider giving up that luxury.'


What are your thoughts on this, is this an example of cultural appropriation?

I'm more upset by his choice of words "the coloured community". Do they still use this terminology in the US

It's a hairstyle it doesn't belong to any culture, should white people accost black people that relax their hair no!

Except black people don't relax their hair to copy white people is to manage their hair. And white people use flat irons to straighten to hair so no relaxing is not to copy whites. And whites are not the only ones with straight hair. In fact when black women buy extensions they don't buy ''causcasian'' extensions it's more peruvian, brazilian, etc..

Black people aren't the only ones to have worn Dreadlocks though, Celts had them as did Vikings and apparently they originated in India. Getting annoyed with another race wearing a hairstyle you deem to be part of your culture is just pure stupidity imo. If white people claimed that black people weren't allowed wear their hair a certain way there would be up roar.

Oh get over yourself would you, I seriously doubt that Celts stole a hairstyle from Egyptians, it is possible that they both just had the same idea. Or do you reckon the Celts were trying to mock the Egyptians for some reason?

This isn't a black issue though, it's just a hairstyle - and one that isn't even synonymous only with black people.

Agree with this. If white people said black people should not dye their hair blonde, or wear blue contact lenses there would be, as you say, uproar.

Maybe people should just mind their own business, live and let live.

Blue eyes is no specific to whites, I posted a black woman with blue eyes.

Egyptians wore it first.

Everyone seems to get into an uproar when this sort of thing happens to a white kid, where was the world wide outrage when black girls were wearing braids in school and people called it **** locks? Where was the front page story? And then that little black girl goes home crying thinking she's not beautiful enough because school, media, and tv tell her white, straight hair is more beautiful. But oh no, you're not suppose to grow up with any animosity little black girl. You're supposed to behave. There are still racist people in the world, but not everyone, don't hold every white person accountable even though the majority are still benefiting from their ancestors doings and the media is still calling you butt ugly with apparently ''scientific'' facts while your white workmate is the beautiful. Next week she can wear **** locks and everyone's loving it.

Umm no, it is a right, we have the right to style our hair however we want, noone is 'allowing' us to have hairstyles!

That was honestly one of the stupidest articles I've ever read (as well as patronising to white people and black people). And when you have to start quoting Azealia Banks to try and back up your points you know you're struggling
