Right, to start with, this is about noone in particular. I have been criticized a lot during the past few days for having opinions on housemates/commenting in certain threads etc.

Now, do you prefer a mod who chats openly with you all, whilst dealing with reports/closing threads etc, or a mod who doesn't really speak at all...but just does their job, with the odd comment about a thread being closed or something.

I don't see any reason why I shouldn't post here too...I really don't. But obviously, some people do :S

I don't know which to pick. Like - I don't think moderators should be this antisocial entity who don't really have a clue about the goings-on of the site...so I lean more to the second option.

However I think there's the possibility of friendships being formed and that is always going to conflict with a moderator's supposed non-bias.

Mods are members too so they should be able to interact and such, as long as they can maintain a neutral position during any mod activities then it shouldn't matter.

If it doesn't affect their impartiality and objectivity on certain matters then I don't see a problem.

Very good point.

I suppose there are plus and minus points to everything.

See if I had been a moderator BEFORE a member, I would probably be less chatty and that, but primarily, I joined the forum to talk about BB, and really don't see any reason why that should stop now :/

absolutely option two, I'm sure if admin thought that a mod was being bias or unfair they would step in.

I actually think that mods should be faceless, for example, on the Everton forum where my Gaz is a mod, he has his 'normal' account which he signed up with, which he uses to chat on, and his 'Moderator' account which is nameless and faceless and noone on there knows who the mods are (apart from the admin obviously). It cuts out a lot of accusations of bias, mods being given a hard time on their regular account, and means the mods can chat on their own accounts like any other member,while using the mod account to do their job. It works really well, but I doubt it would even be considered on here.

That's a good idea actually.

But on topic - I personally hate it when mods don't or feel like they can't chat with the other members. It's not fair.

It does work really well, and it would stop mods (like Vicky who I see getting a lot of crap on here for doing her job) from getting targeted by members who take up issue with them giving out infractions etc.

well as long as a mod is not biast
well there are mods that are biast now
some people dont get banned for death threats
whilst some get banned for saying "Joe doesnt have a girlfriend"

i think Nate would be biast
he kicks me from all tiny chat
so he'll ban unfairly and forgive unfairly

Well, if that was used on here you wouldn't have half as many people wanting to be mods. It would be a good idea though, and anyone caught revealing that they are a moderator on another account should be automatically stripped of the title. Would work a treat.

Yes, I am really liking the idea of that, I doubt they would change things over now though, unfortunately.

I doubt they will change it on here now, but it was just a suggestion, and I actually think it might encourage more people suited to the job of being mod but who don't want the **** that comes with it sometimes, to apply. If you're not biased and not doing it for 'forum status' then I don't see the issue of being incognito.

I agree with this to a certain extent. There's absolutely no consistency at times.
