Hopefully yes as he is coming back, we have Buttner too for the LB position, but Fabio can play at RB also;).

Rene Muelensteen has officially left United:(, gutted but I wish him good luck for the future and he is a class First Team Coach.
David Moyes is set to appoint Phil Neville, Steve Round, Chris Woods & Robbie Cooke from Everton to his backroom staff at United.
Apparently David Moyes wanted to keep Rene, but Rene thinks that Moyes should bring in his own staff. Rene will be missed as he knows the club inside out!

Hodgson: Zaha set to shine
Roy Hodgson has heaped praise on Wilfried Zaha, tipping the 20-year-old to enjoy a successful career with both Manchester United and England.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C4022979A6E04268A4DB6FBFBBAAC2A3.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,164,3500,1464
The young forward was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in January this year before rejoining Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season, which climaxed on Monday with the Eagles securing promotion to the Barclays Premier League via a dramatic play-off final win over Watford at Wembley.
England manager Hodgson is confident the PFA Championship Player of the Year will shine in his new surroundings at United and take full advantage of the club’s famed aptitude for nurturing young players.
“I like Wilfried Zaha,” Hodgson told The FA's official website. “He is a good player. I went to Palace not so long back to have a look at him and of course he now has a massive move to Manchester United. It seems to me he is on the threshold of something big.
“He will be given the opportunity. When a club like Manchester United is prepared to pay a lot of money for a player, because they will help them to win things, it is a tremendous boost to both confidence and ego.
“As coaches we can't do any more. After you have lit the touch paper, all we can do is sit back and hope they buzz.”

Sir Bobby's mixed emotions
How did it feel to lift the European Cup a decade after surviving the Munich air disaster? In this extract from his autobiography, Sir Bobby Charlton describes his emotions after helping Manchester United to beat Benfica in the final on 29 May, 1968...
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/A10DDF5DB9C44198A9125804BAF1D4A3.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=36,88,636,310
At full-time my strongest sensation was worry for the Old Man.
Sir Matt Busby really was, I felt, an old man. He had been through so much, and this was unquestionably the pinnacle of his football life. For days he had been reminded of the meaning of the game, the legacy of Munich and how his boys had died in pursuit of this trophy. So many people believed that this night was for him and about him, and it was natural, I suppose, that everyone wanted to touch him at the end of the game.
When I got through to the Old Man, a great crowd of people, including some supporters, were holding on to him. Even though I was so tired, I started to drag them off. "Get off, give him some room!" I yelled. Later I thought that was maybe a bit rude because the fans only wanted to express their happiness, but I was concerned at how he was being buffeted around. Eventually he got to his players and hugged them.
To be perfectly honest, I cannot tell you precisely my feelings at that moment. Fatigue, certainly. I do recall what it meant to embrace team-mates like Bill Foulkes, Nobby Stiles and Shay Brennan, who had been involved for so long – and maybe especially Bill because, like me, he had been on the snowy airfield and seen our team, our friends, destroyed.
I know there was an understanding that something was over, something that dominated our lives for so long. I walked to the dressing room and downed two bottles of beer...
Sir Bobby's autobiography, My Manchester United Years, is published by Headline.
Aww:(. RIP to those from that legendary team and I hope they are smiling down proud of the current teams achievements!

Edwin salutes De Gea
Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has praised David De Gea’s performances throughout the 2012/13 campaign, citing his Spanish successor as an integral player at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/4AC220C851E548BF914D33B1671B6660.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,504,2104,1284
The 22-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed a remarkable second season in England, winning his first Barclays Premier League title and earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year. He also finished third – behind Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick – in the fan-voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
And van der Sar, whose own retirement from football preceded De Gea’s arrival in 2011, is delighted to have seen his replacement improve and flourish so much in M16. The Dutchman, who will return to Old Trafford this Sunday 2 June to play in the Red Heart United charity match against Real Madrid, believes De Gea's first-team recall in December was a turning point in his career.
“I think that is the way everybody has seen it,” Edwin exclusively told ManUtd.com. “The first half of the season and the year before, there were some mixed feelings and the gaffer changed it up a little bit to play Anders Lindegaard for three or four games.
“But then David came back in and we stuck with him. From that point, his performances grew and he became more important to the team all of the time. It has been a good turn around for him in terms of his performances and his own self-confidence in being the Manchester United goalkeeper.
“Of course, the PFA recognition was great but the main thing you want is to win the Premier League. Personal accolades are nice but the main thing is winning something with the team. That was always my preferred choice.
“As long as your team-mates are happy with you and your manager plays you every week, those are the best accolades you can get. Of course, after you win the league it is nice to look at individual trophies, but the team always comes first.”
With regards to what the future holds for De Gea and United, van der Sar is adamant that domestic dominance must always be prioritised, although he admits he would like to see the Reds return to Europe’s top table following a couple of disappointing campaigns in the UEFA Champions League.
“I think for the whole team the Premier League is always important but the last two years have been disappointing in Europe,” Edwin explained.
“So I think the next step for the whole club, and for David, is to establish themselves among the elite in Europe. In five years, we reached three finals, a semi-final and a quarter-final so it would be nice to reach that level again.”
Nice words by Edwin:).

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is adamant he is happy at club
http://e1.365dm.com/13/01/660x350/Manchester-United-v-Southampton-David-de-Gea_2893188.jpg?20130331100858
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea insists he is happy with the Premier League champions.
The 22-year-old struggled at times following his move from Atletico Madrid in 2011, but his form in the 2012-13 campaign saw him named in the Premier League team of the season.
However the Spaniard has been linked with a return to his homeland, and with Barcelona set to sell Victor Valdes this summer, De Gea has been mentioned as a possible target.
"I'm happy in Manchester," De Gea declared while on Under-21 duty for Spain.
"It has been a very good season, and the longer it goes, the better I'm there. I have a contract and hope to be at United for many years."
With the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, De Gea will work with a new manager, in the shape of David Moyes, and a new goalkeeping coach following the departure of Eric Steele when he does return to Old Trafford.
He said: "We are saddened by the departure of Ferguson, but in comes another great coach with a different style of play, so we will try to follow along the same lines and with the same tone.
"It's a shame that he went, he was great. But, now we have a new coach in David Moyes, who we still don't know. We're all waiting to get back there and see how it is with him."
Nice one David, he will continue to improve for United and is the future of Spain in terms of the GK position IMO!

Tough night for Reds quartet
Four Manchester United players had a difficult day on international duty as England were held at home and Ecuador lost on neutral ground in friendly matches.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/FECF4B9851A84D3EB2A24A3D7A0D6FDA.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,52,590,271
Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick both started for the Three Lions in their 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland at Wembley, then Phil Jones joined them in the fray as a half-time substitute for Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson.
Giovanni Trapattoni's Irish side, featuring former United defender John O'Shea in their back four, took a surprise first-half lead when West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long converted Seamus Coleman's right-wing cross with a stunning header. The away team's advantage only lasted for 10 minutes, however, until Frank Lampard netted a scruffy equaliser from close range. There was one more United connection on the pitch when the club's ex-goalkeeper Ben Foster, now of West Brom of course, ended his international retirement by coming on for Manchester City's Joe Hart.
Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia scored for Ecuador in Florida, USA, but was still on the receiving end as the positivity surrounding German club football rubbed off on the national team to devastating effect.
Even without the players who featured in Saturday's Champions League final for Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, Germany went 4-0 up inside 24 minutes. Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski and Bayer Leverkusen midfelder Lars Bender scored a double apiece before Valencia pulled a goal back on the brink of half-time. A further consolation, from Walter Ayovi, was added in the 84th minute to make the final score 4-2 to the Germans.

Johnsen reassures Jones
Ronny Johnsen has told Phil Jones not to be concerned that his versatility could end up being a handicap to his long-term career.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/070E846F2AF548E69BE6FE46291BBCEF.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,29,600,476
Jones came on as a substitute for England in the 1-1 draw with Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Wednesday and filled in at right-back but was also used in midfield and the centre of defence, his favoured position, by the champions last term.
England coach Roy Hodgson and retiring United chief Sir Alex Ferguson have both stressed that they feel the 21-year-old will mature into a top-class centre-back and Johnsen, who also switched roles regularly during his successful time at Old Trafford, feels there is no problem with being a utility man - particularly at his tender age.
Speaking ahead of his involvement in the Red Heart United Legends clash against Real Madrid on Sunday, which still has tickets available, the Norwegian had words of reassurance for Jones.
"The gaffer used to like me me playing in midfield, especially when 'Keano' [Roy Keane] was out with injury," he told ManUtd.com. "But I played in defence, at the back, a lot and enjoyed it. It's actually more common now [performing both roles].
"Phil doesn't need to be worried. Anyway, I think he benefits from it in the end. He's so young he can benefit from being versatile and he can learn from playing a little bit everywhere.
"I played centre-forward in the national team when I was 25 but was then, more or less, just a defensive player. You learn a little bit from every position you play in so it's something that you can only benefit from. He is obviously so young and has got so many years ahead of him that it is all good for his career."
Johnsen, who was part of the Treble-winning side in 1999, believes players need to be adaptable to change positions in the modern game.
"I think it's how things work at the minute," he opined. "Some clubs have to change things around a bit and look for a peak from the players they have got. Sometimes, you just have to adapt and play in the position where the manager wants you to play.
"If you're positive and you just think: 'I will benefit from this and learn a little bit from playing on this side or elsewhere'. Teamwise, I think that's the way the modern game is and especially the modern player as well."

Neville: English core is key
Gary Neville believes it is imperative for Manchester United to have a nucleus of young English players, particularly at this time of transition at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/1C7A61BFF60B41F7991CE439F65C7B82.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,64,2165,1678
Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck were all first-team regulars during the 2012/13 title-winning season, clocking up an impressive 118 appearances between them. And having noted their progression, Neville sees a bright future ahead.
However, after a couple of encouraging campaigns, the Reds legend thinks the talented group must now step up and cement starting places under new manager David Moyes, citing the recent advancements made by David De Gea, Jonny Evans and Rafael da Silva as examples.
“It is critical to have young English players at the club who are coming through and have good potential,” Gary told ManUtd.com. “Those players need to develop and become better. They are now champions after winning the title; they should gain confidence from that and want to go again.
“They should also feel more mature after the experience of losing the title last year and winning it back this season. They are two years on and this third season is where they really need to perform, kick on and become Manchester United players.
“There is a pressure on young players but in the first two years you are given a lot of leeway because you are young. Next year, you are getting to that 22 or 23 age and some of them will need to perform on a far more consistent basis, getting into the starting team more regularly.
“We have seen Jonny Evans do it in some ways, other players like Rafael have done it after being in and out for a couple of seasons and now he is number one. David De Gea, for instance, was swapping with Anders Lindegaard and now he is the number one.
“We have seen young players take that step and now it is for Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley to move into that position where they are full-time players.”
In his current role as an England coach, Neville is well-placed to analyse United’s batch of young Lions and, encouragingly, the Treble winner has noticed a clear increase in confidence and experience every time they report for international duties.
“They grow each time and you notice the maturity in them. Welbeck’s growth has been incredible, we’ve not seen too much of Phil Jones with England, Chris played well in Montenegro and Tom has done really well, playing a part in nearly every game.
“All of the young players are well thought of, not just at Manchester United but other clubs at well. You just hope that they can play more consistent football to become top England players as well.”

Legends ready to do battle
Manchester United's Legends are preparing to face their Real Madrid counterparts on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The Red Heart United event features a concert headlined by JLS and a number of other family-based activities with the ticket-office windows open for sales and collections all day. 55,600 tickets have already been sold.
United trail 3-2 from the first game at the Bernabeu last year with goalscorers Lee Sharpe and Teddy Sheringham again both on show. Coach Bryan Robson has been deprived of the services of Dion Dublin after he picked up a collarbone injury and Jesper Blomqvist has also been forced to withdraw.
Paul Scholes is likely to be a central figure and he will come up against Zinedine Zidane, Steve McManaman and Luis Figo in midfield. However, the visitors will be without Guti.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is scheduled to appear for both teams after representing the two clubs with great distinction.
United: Van der Sar, van der Gouw; Berg, Blackmore, Irwin, Johnsen, Martin, Stam; Fortune, Robson, Scholes, Sharpe; Cole, Sheringham, van Nistelrooy, Yorke.
Real Madrid: Contreras, Sanchez; Cannavaro, Helguera, Hierro, Pavon, Salgado, Sanz; Amavisca, De la Red, Figo, McManaman, Makelele, Zidane; Alfonso, Butragueno, Morientes, van Nistelrooy.
It should be a good game for lots of worthy charitable causes:).

Cole: My United regret
Andy Cole has admitted to ending his Manchester United career prematurely, citing his decision to leave Old Trafford in 2001 as the “only regret” of his illustrious career.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/9F36A54DB6FF492F818029249B7BF997.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,178,3000,1292
After eight trophy-laden seasons in M16, the Reds legend opted to join Blackburn Rovers in order to guarantee first-team football and supplement his dream of playing for England at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea – a plan that was ultimately unsuccessful.
And speaking exclusively to ManUtd.com, Cole spoke candidly about the circumstances which prompted his departure and revealed the role Sir Alex Ferguson played in trying to keep him at United.
“When I left the club, I wanted to play more games and I saw the manager numerous times,” Andy explained. “He told me that I didn’t have to go, he didn’t want me to go, I could have stayed for as long as I could and I would get my games. But I was trying to force myself into the World Cup squad.
“In the end, he just said ‘Okay, I understand and I know what you are like, I will let you go’. The crazy thing is that he sold me for £7million, which is more than what he paid for me. He got me for £6m and sold me for £7m. So I remember that last meeting with him like it was yesterday.
“I really enjoyed my time but I left far too early. That is my only regret. I could have stayed at the football club for a lot longer and, looking back, I wish I had.”
Few could argue with Cole’s logic for leaving, particularly as the former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle striker had literally won everything there is to win in the game while plying his trade at the Theatre of Dreams. But as Andy admits, he chould have added more silverware to his cabinet.
“Just because you have won everything, that doesn’t mean you don’t want to win it again,” the Treble-winner explained.
“If I was what I am now – more relaxed and calculated in what I want to do – I would have thought about it and realised I would have played games and still be involved in 20 to 25 games a season and win a hell of a lot more, but it wasn’t to be.”

Exclusive interview: De Gea
What do you like best about playing in the English Premier League?
Playing for United, one of the greatest clubs in the world, is always a source of pride to me. Every time I pull the shirt on, I'm pulling on the history of this club.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/ACCA80BDDD19474A8D56545489A71A6C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=104,0,837,547
How do you like to relax away from football?
I spend time at home, with my family. I watch a lot of films and like to play video games with my friends. Normal stuff, really, but I'm not in my house all the time. I often go shopping, go for a walk and go into the city centre. I put the subtitles on for English films so I can distinguish better what they're saying, which helps improve my English.
How often do you get together with your family and friends?
Well, I relax with my family a lot. I go out with friends, go bowling, have a meal. I relax and have a good time.
If you weren't a footballer what would you be?
All I can remember is wanting to be a footballer. It's all I've ever wanted to do and it's hard for me to even consider doing anything else. I guess if football wasn't an option, I would have concentrated a bit harder at school and put my mind to my studies. I would probably have gone to university and tried to attain a degree related to sport. I also enjoyed history at school, learning about important dates and events.
As a young boy, how did you first get involved with football?
I played with my father from a very young age. The first thing I remember is playing football in my home our outside. It was all I did! I joined Atletico Madrid's Academy when I was young.
I was around five or six years old and just a small boy.
Goalkeepers sometimes score goals. Although you've never scored a goal professionally, have you ever scored in a match as a goalkeeper?
Not as a keeper but, as a youngster, I played as an outfield player. I was a forward and scored lots of goals but eventually settled on being a goalkeeper. I think I've always liked to pass the ball and dribble - in the Spain under-age teams, I used to practise with the ball at my feet. And, at a club like United, it's important to be able to support the team in every way.

Welbeck's World Cup dream
Danny Welbeck hopes a successful 2013/14 season with Manchester United will help him realise his dream of representing England at next summer's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/607ADCA3184342F2B72B3C2A52F59268.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,568,2450,2393
The Reds striker once idolised Samba stars Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho as a teenager playing in the street, and having starred for the Three Lions in recent years, is excited to travel to their homeland for the most grandiose tournament in football.
However, two obstacles stand in his way. Firstly, England still need to progress from an increasingly difficult qualifying stage and secondly, the Longsight lad must earn his seat on the plane by excelling for United under new manager David Moyes.
“It is vital that we qualify for Brazil,” Danny explains. “It is a stage everyone wants to be at and every footballer wants to be in a World Cup. No one wants to miss out.
“My England career is coming along pretty well and I have coped with the step up in international football. Obviously it helps playing at United, where there is always going to be pressure. But you can’t afford to look back. My view is once one game has gone you look to the next one.
“I want to make sure I stake a strong claim to be vying for a striker’s role at the World Cup and to do that I know I need to have a good Premier League season first. I need to be playing regularly for United, scoring goals and playing consistently.”
As Welbeck acknowledges, scoring goals is absolutely pivotal and having only converted twice during the last campaign, he is more than aware that his tally must improve next term.
But rather than shying away from the matter, perhaps by referencing the fact he played as a winger for much of last season, the United forward is bullish when tackling the issue.
“It is an area I want to improve. If I need to help the team out by playing in other positions, I will do it. But I am aiming to get a better goal return from out on the wings anyway. That would benefit the team. All the strikers know that once they get their chance they really have to take it.”
I like his honesty on wanting to improve on the goal record for next season, that is something he must do!

Swansea give Manchester United testimonial to Alan Tate
Swansea City have granted long-serving defender Alan Tate a testimonial against former club Manchester United.
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/67911000/jpg/_67911480_alan-tate.jpg
New Red Devils boss David Moyes will send a Select XI to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, 13 August for the game.
Tate, 30, started his career at Old Trafford but joined Swansea for the first of two loan spells in 2002 before making the move permanent in 2004.
"I'm extremely grateful to the club and Manchester United for granting me this testimonial," Tate said.
"I spoke to [former United manager] Sir Alex Ferguson before he announced his retirement and he was really supportive.
"I had some great times at Old Trafford as a schoolboy, apprentice and a young professional.
"It proved the perfect grounding for me to develop my career at Swansea, where the fans have always been fantastic to me. I hope it will be a great night."
Tate is one of a select band of players, along with Garry Monk and Leon Britton, who has represented the club in all four divisions of the Football League.

Ruud's a fan of van Persie
Ruud van Nistelrooy has described his fellow Dutch striker Robin van Persie as 'top class' and acknowledged the devastating impact he has made at United since arriving from Arsenal.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7FC362C855C8484BBD8EF1BCA6E04122.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=150,7,718,431
Van Persie collected his first Barclays Premier League winner's medal and the Golden Boot after adapting instantly to life at Old Trafford. Former Reds hitman van Nistelrooy, speaking ahead of the Red Heart United Legends match against another of his old clubs, Real Madrid, also feels that his ex-colleague Wayne Rooney is at his best when playing up front.
"Robin made a massive impact in his first season," van Nistelrooy told ManUtd.com. "Right from the beginning. He’s been a great signing and it ended with him winning the league.
"He’s a very good player in general. He scores the goals but, in nearly every goal that United score, he is a part of it with an assist or something else. He adds so much to the attacking play and will be very proud to win his first Premier League medal.
"I think he is definitely an example of a striker who can play the No9 and No10 roles together. He puts the goals in and provides a lot and I think, for a player of that quality, it’s very rare. He is top class."
As for Rooney, the England international played in different roles during the successful title-winning campaign and was not restricted to an out-and-out striking position.
"I like him playing further forward really," admitted van Nistelrooy. "Where he can hurt people. I know he has shown that he can play in midfield as well. He has great vision of the the game and is a fine passer of the ball as well and, physically, can get about the pitch and get stuck in. He was doing that as well but I'd like to see him a bit more up front.
"I saw the game against Real at the Bernabeu and he was on the right but I'd prefer to see him in the centre rather than out wide. Danny Welbeck did really well that night - it was a big goal that he scored there and he had a good game."
There was no doubt where van Nistelrooy's vote for United's Player of the Year was going as he is fully supportive of his fellow Dutchman.
"There's only one," he replied when asked for his choice. "Of course, Michael Carrick had a very consistent season too but I think van Persie's first season was outstanding."

Q&A: Edwin Van der Sar
The Manchester United hero previews Sunday's Red Heart United match at Old Trafford and explains why he's looking forward to linking up with Messrs Scholes, Johnsen and Stam...
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7B331DEF37FC480080BC4A3749D82E77.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,183,3456,2754
How’s your fitness ahead of kick-off?
I had a quick game of 5-a-side before the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley, which was quite quick and good for me. The players didn’t move as well as they did before but they did well, so it was a good game. I have also trained with the Under-19s at Ajax, so I hope it will be enough for Sunday. I saw the trailer with the lads training in the park and they look good. I also saw Figo recently and he said he is looking forward to the game. I just hope we can overturn the deficit from last year's game in Madrid.
Speaking of the first leg, it wasn’t your usual charity match was it?
It was very competitive. Of course it is for a good cause and everyone likes to play, but you always get a little bit competitive if somebody kicks you for example, or beats you to the ball, so that winning mentality always shows itself. It never leaves you. It drives you to do well and please the supporters. We all want to make a good impression of ourselves also.
Presumably, you must be keen to play behind Ronny Johnsen and your compatriot Jaap Stam?
Yes. Of course, I never played with them in 1999 when they were in their heydays but I played with Jaap last year at Soccer Aid. He looked good, he was sharp, his tackling was okay and he was still aggressive on the ball when he had to be. So I’m looking forward to playing with him again and hopefully we can get our partnership that we had with the national team back.
What do you make of both squads this time around?
Last year, I think they brought about 30 players onto the pitch with the likes of Roberto Carlos, Zidane and Figo, so it’s hard to believe they’ve strengthened this time around. But we have a good team - I just hope we can keep Scholesy on the pitch for as long as we can because he’ll probably be our fittest player. It will be great to play with him at Old Trafford again.
And how excited are you to return to Old Trafford?
I was here for the last game when the manager left and the team lifted the trophy so it was a great atmosphere, if we can get anywhere near those levels I will be delighted. Manchester is known for supporting good causes like the Foundation and watching great football players, so it will be a great day for the whole family. Ticket prices can sometimes be a little bit high for Premier League games so this is a great opportunity for everybody to have a good time.

Gill proud of United role
David Gill has spoken about his successful tenure as chief executive as he prepares to step down from the role.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/BFB40A2E4F164501B85507096EEC7448.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,40,600,262
The FA vice-chairman was recently appointed to the UEFA Executive Committee after feeling the time was right to leave Old Trafford with Ed Woodward taking his place.
"I've had a fantastic 16 years in total, 10 as chief executive, and working with Alex [Ferguson] and all the staff at Manchester United has been a real privilege," Gill stated.
"I can't look back, I can only look forward but I've enjoyed it immensely and to go out with another Premier League title is a wonderful experience for me. I look forward to watching the team in years to come, winning more trophies, but in a slightly different guise."
One of the biggest challenges of his tenure was ending the spell of success from London duo Arsenal and Chelsea by bringing the title back to Manchester.
"I took over in 2003 and Arsenal won the league the next year," he recalled. "Then Chelsea won it for two years under Jose Mourinho. Speaking with Alex and Carlos Queiroz, they felt we needed to change the team so the 2006/2007 title was a really important moment and then, of course, we followed it up quickly in 2008.
"You can't forget the scenes in Moscow. I had to apologise to people like Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini for my celebrations after we won the game! That's the beauty of this club and it's given me so many proud moments. There are other things like the development of the stadium and redevelopment of Carrington but Manchester United is about what happens on the pitch.
"I've learnt a lot from Alex. We have a very good relationship and I had the benefit of being here since 1997 and getting to know him but not working directly for him. We want the best for the team so I always tried to work with him to deliver what he wanted. Over the years, we've developed a very good working relationship and friendship and it's something I will treasure forever."
With Woodward beginning his new role, the transfer business will be in new hands this summer as David Moyes will, no doubt, look to bring in some fresh talent.
"Ed is taking over from me and is doing an excellent job," added Gill. "I'm more than happy to give him any advice and help on that area [transfers].
"David is coming in and will work with Ed and evaluate the squad and what is needed with all the relevant people. The outlook is very positive and I'm looking forward to a very bright future."
When asked about any specific advice for his successor, Gill replied: "That's a good one. I think to try and retain the values and the spirit of Manchester United, which is about it being a family club - even though it's a huge, multi-national brand these days.
"But to have that family spirit is critical to it. Also to understand that we've got to be a successful business but we're a sport as well. Ed's been around the club for many years now so he understands all that.
"It's getting that balance between business and sport. Football is up and down. One season, you do well. The next season, you don't do so well so you've got to have an even temperament and keel throughout and make sure that you don't get too emotional with the highs and too emotional with the lows.
"I've tried to do that and also recognise that Manchester United has been around since 1878 and you're just a custodian for a period and the only thing you can do when you're involved is to leave it in good shape for your successor to take on to the next level."
Good luck to David Gill:).

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea hopes to return to Atletico Madrid one day but insists that at the moment he is very happy in England.
Speaking to AS, De Gea said: “To win at Madrid’s Bernabeu in a final, I cannot ask for anything more because they also have qualified for the Champions and have made a great season. Hopefully in the future I can return, you never know. It has been and will always be my home.”
De Gea will return to Carrington to start pre-season with United next month and says that it will be strange without Sir Alex Ferguson at the club. De Gea added: “Obviously there will be a change, he was the coach for many years, many titles and many joys. Now comes a new coach I think it will continue in the same line of Sir Alex and dynamics will be similar.
“Playing for United, one of the greatest clubs in the world, is always a source of pride to me. Every time I pull the shirt on, I’m pulling on the history of this club.”
It is understandable that David would want to return to Atletico at some point in his career, but as he said he is very happy at United and sees himself at the club for many years to come yet!

Ruud grateful for fan reaction
Ruud van Nistelrooy admits he was “grateful” to receive such a rousing reception from Manchester United supporters during Sunday’s legends game with Real Madrid.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/4A7EA5E9A32E4EBBB8E860C35B1087A5.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=533,1,2712,1629
The once prolific striker was a firm favourite during his five season stay at Old Trafford but left under a cloud following a dispute with manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Of course, the pair have since made up and the Dutchman was recently in attendance at the boss’s statue unveiling in November.
However, playing at Old Trafford again was another step up for Van Nistelrooy, whose presence prompted rapturous applause from the terraces as he represented both sides even scored for United during the entertaining charity affair.
“I am very grateful for the reception,” Ruud told MUTV, when asked how much he enjoyed the fan reaction. “For me, it meant a lot to come back to be back here, stepping on the pitch again. I was even lucky enough to score in front of the Stretford End again.
“I left all of a sudden after five years and that was a big awkward, so to come back and play a game again was great. I wanted to thank the fans for all of their support over the years while I was here and their reaction was just a fantastic bonus.
“I really looked forward to coming back and playing here again. It was a fantastic day and playing a half for each side was fantastic, it was great to line up with all of these brilliant players. Everyone enjoyed it and it was a good day for a great cause.”
As for the match itself, which ended in a 2-1 win for Real Madrid, Ruud was happy with his performance and felt United were on the verge of
stealing a victory until Ruben de la Red's finely chipped finish put a full stop on proceedings.
“I think we went for it," he explained. “At 1-1, we were pushing for the win and the crowd were behind us. Dwight Yorke hit the bar and it looked like we were going to knick it, but then at the other end it was a fantastic chip – he really dinked it in, it was a fantastic finish. But I think everybody won today.
“It was fantastic. It was like nothing had changed, we were linking up and combining together. Scholesy was there and he drove the team on as the fittest of all of us. It was fantastic.”
Nice words by Ruud:).

Sharpe: Moyes is the right man
Lee Sharpe has backed David Moyes to succeed as Manchester United manager, citing the many similarities between the Scot and Sir Alex Ferguson as reasons.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/A94EE16ADE9E452AB5563C78734939D5.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=92,0,565,353
The former Everton boss will officially take over at Old Trafford on 1 July following his predecessor’s retirement from football, beginning the most-anticipated managerial reign since Wilf McGuinness famously replaced Sir Matt Busby in 1969.
And Sharpe, who was one of Sir Alex’s earliest signings in 1988, believes the changing of the guard at the Theatre of Dreams will be completely seamless due to a sensible, intelligent appointment.
“I think it is going to be a smooth transition and business as usual,” the ex-Reds winger told ManUtd.com after Sunday’s Red Heart United match with Real Madrid.
“David Moyes is very similar to the young Alex Ferguson who first came to the club. He is hungry, driven, he has a lot of discipline and I think he will blend straight in.
“He will be a bit surprised by the actual size of the club when he turns up for pre-season and sees the amount of fans we have around the world. But I think he is going to be fine and I think he is the right man for the job.”

Fabio: QPR lacked team spirit
Fabio has analysed his loan spell with Queens Park Rangers and summised that the recently relegated team did not share the team spirit that engulfs everybody at Manchester United.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/F2302DACC4704487A0E12007EECE7EB0.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,228,2057,992
The Brazilian full-back spent the entire 2012/13 season at Loftus Road and was a relative success, despite the club’s plight, starting 15 matches and coming off the bench eight times during a campaign that was also undermined by a couple of niggling injuries.
However, the Da Silva sibling admits his temporary stay in West London didn’t quite go to plan, despite the best efforts of boss Harry Redknapp and QPR’s passionate fanbase.
“It didn't go the way I wanted,” Fabio is quoted in the Daily Mail. “We had a bad start, lost confidence and never got back on track. Redknapp tried hard but it was too late. Of course, there were too many changes at the club - too many new players.
“I don't think the team were together. Everyone wanted to do his best but they played for themselves as individuals, not as a team. In the end, the atmosphere was bad - but not from the fans. I have to say they supported us right to the end.”
The left-back now hopes to usurp Patrice Evra and cement a first team place like his twin brother Rafael, upon his return to M16 on 1 July. Of course, David Moyes will also officially arrive on the same date and Fabio has plenty of respect for the incoming Scot who is taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.
“From every kid to the top player, Sir Alex has been everything at the club. But David Moyes has a great reputation; 11 years at one team like he's done with Everton is also remarkable these days.”
Refreshing honesty from Fabio:).

De Gea is here to stay
David De Gea has admitted to facing difficulties since joining Manchester United in 2011, but insists he is loving life in M16 and has absolutely no desire to leave.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/ACCA80BDDD19474A8D56545489A71A6C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=104,0,837,547
The 22-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed an excellent second season with the Reds, winning his first Barclays Premier League title whilst earning a place in the PFA’s prestigious Team of the Year. He even finished third in the running for the fan-voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
Despite all of this, the former Athletico Madrid star has been linked with a move back to Spain, although De Gea was quick to rubbish such wild speculation whilst on international duty this week: “I have a contract,” he told local media. “I feel more and more happy at United.
“I faced normal difficulties - a new country, language, a different league - but through hard work I managed to adapt. I am very happy in Manchester.”
During a brief interview, De Gea also explained why it will feel odd to head into pre-season without the recently retired Sir Alex Ferguson but insists he is completely behind David Moyes.
“I felt great sadness when I heard about Ferguson's goodbye,” David said. “It will be strange not to see him on the bench or on the training ground. He is everything at Manchester United. He is Manchester United.
“Moyes had done a great job at Everton and now all of us have to support him. To substitute Ferguson is a huge target but if they chose him to do it, it is because he is prepared.”
I think DDG has done well to adapt and great to hear how happy he is at the club again:cool:.

Rio testimonial details confirmed
Manchester United will face Sevilla at Old Trafford on Friday, 9 August in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match.

The 34-year-old, who recently penned a one-year contract extension, will start his 12th season at the club with a showpiece match against the La Liga side ahead of the Reds' Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic.
"This is going to be a big night for me as well as an emotional one," said Rio. "I cannot believe where those ten years have gone and I am lucky to have spent them here at Manchester United.
"This club is unique in every way, the history and drive of the place is unbelievable, it spurs everyone to succeed. The fans are the best in the world, their commitment is amazing and I have appreciated their support throughout my career. I hope they enjoy the night as much as I intend to."
Having signed Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002 and overseen the defender's entire Old Trafford career to date, Sir Alex Ferguson said: "It is great that the club are granting Rio a testimonial for his services to the club.
"He is one of the best central defenders this club has seen. Rio has a natural ability to read the game and I said last month that I believed that this season has been the best of his Manchester United career. It will be a fantastic night for him and the fans, but it also gets next season’s campaign off to a great start."
The testimonial will kick off at 7:30pm, and tickets are now available.
RIO:worship:, he is a class act and deserves this testimonial match for all the years of service he has given to United so far and it should be a great night!

No Fergie, no let-up, claims Robin van Persie as Manchester United enter Moyes era
Forget the hairdryer, Sir Alex Ferguson was a cuddly knight too claims RVP before insisting that the trophy lust is undiminished.
http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1832100.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Stoke-City-v-Manchester-United-Premier-League-1832100.jpg
Robin van Persie says Manchester United will not allow their standard to drop - just because Sir Alex Ferguson has retired.
Ferguson kept United at the top - domestically and in Europe - for more than two decades but has now handed power over to his successor David Moyes.
Van Persie, whose 30 goals in his debut season helped United clinch the title last season, said he and his team-mates were relishing the new era under Moyes.
"It's a challenge and everybody knows what our standard is," said van Persie.
"We want to win the league again and then, hopefully, add one or two trophies to that.
"Hopefully next year we can win the double, or even more. It will be a new era and I'm looking forward to it.
"It's part of our job. We have to deal with a new situation. That's how it is."
Van Persie said his maiden title triumph, at the age of 29, had made him more determined to add to his trophy haul with United.
Prior to moving to Old Trafford, the Holland striker's only honour in the English game was winning the 2005 FA Cup with Arsenal, ironically against United.
http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1887220.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Manchester-Uniteds-Dutch-striker-Robin-van-Persie-holds-the-Premier-League-trophy-as-he-boards-the-bus-outside-Old-1887220.jpg
But van Persie is determined to make up for lost time on the honours front and said: "I want more now.
"I want more medals now because I now know how it feels. It gives you the taste for more.
"First we can enjoy what we've achieved this year. Then you start to think about next season and, of course, we're looking forward to it.
"We have a new manager - maybe new players coming in. Wilfried Zaha is coming from Crystal Palace and there may be more, there may be some leaving, no-one knows."
Van Persie only worked with Ferguson for one season but said his short time working with the legendary United boss had left an indelible mark on him.
And van Persie said the combative, fired-up Ferguson the world sees on the touchline was not an accurate and rounded portrayal of the former United boss.
"It's made such an impact on me that I couldn't see coming before I signed," said van Persie.
"He made it even more special than I thought it would be.
"Not only by his skills as a manager but by the way he is as a person, the way he works with his players and the honesty and the winning mentality.
"The word 'winning' came along so many times in his meetings.
"It's only been a year but it has been a year of incredible impact on me which has meant so much. I am proud to have been able to work with him.
"I always thought he was a winner.
"If you're a winner and want to achieve things you sometimes have to be direct and tell the truth where it's needed but that's the way to win and so I wasn't surprised about him.
"But when you see him from an outside point of view you maybe see 20 per cent of Sir Alex.
"You see him on the touchline. You see him shouting at the referee, you see him wanting to win.
"That's your picture of him in that moment. But we saw him every day.
"You see him chatting with the boys, you see him in meetings and how he works.
"He's a man who puts his arm around you if you are having a hard time.
"He gives you confidence. He always defends you towards the outside world. He will always defend his players.
"We're lucky to have seen what most people cannot see.
"He's one of the best managers in the world, maybe the best and one of the friendliest people I have met in my life and that tells you the whole story about him."
Too right RVP the new era is exciting, but spot on about the legend that is Sir Alex Ferguson:).

Manchester United's Javier Hernandez happy in Premier League
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has no intention of leaving the club, according to his agent.
http://e1.365dm.com/13/05/660x350/hernandez_2947026.jpg?20130519173940
Chicharito, as he is affectionately known, could be considered the club's fourth-choice striker with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck all making more Premier League appearances in their race to reclaiming the title.
But the 25-year-old still claimed 10 goals in 22 Premier League outings, which has attracted the attention of a number of clubs across Europe.
The Mexico forward's representative, Eduardo Hernandez, says his client is going nowhere.
"He is very happy at Manchester United. Javier has been there three years and has won the league twice. Not many can say they have achieved that," he said.
Great news:). Chicharito is awesome, a humble guy and has a bright future at United for many years to come!

Kagawa reaches World Cup
Shinji Kagawa's Japan clinched qualification for next year's World Cup finals with a 1-1 draw against Australia.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/6001A2DC9D534C85A4DB66AE95A7F821.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,157,800,454
The match in Saitama ended all square to assure Japan of a top-two spot in Group B of the Asian qualifying section with a game to spare.
Kagawa twice came close to opening the scoring inside a couple of second-half minutes, forcing a save out of Mark Schwarzer and then chipping the Fulham keeper from a difficult angle but seeing the intelligent effort come back off the woodwork.
Tommy Oar's mis-hit cross handed the Socceroos the lead with only eight minutes remaining but Keisuke Honda kept his nerve to convert an injury-time penalty to clinch the point required for Alberto Zaccheroni's team to progress to Brazil.
"We had our fans worried and it was a relief that Keisuke scored," Shinji admitted afterwards, before outlining his aims for next summer's showpiece.
"I didn't play in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," he added. "I will keep doing my best to improve this year so I can play in the finals."
Well done to Japan and Shinji Kagawa:).

http://e1.365dm.com/13/05/660x350/Guillermo-Varela_2945696.jpg?20130517084327
Manchester United are set to tie up a deal for Uruguayan starlet Guillermo Varela, his club Penarol have confirmed.
Varela spent time on trial at Old Trafford at the end of last season and he is know to have impressed United's coaching staff.
Now the 20-year-old full-back is flying to England to finalise the move for a reported £1million fee.
Penarol club treasurer Rodolfo Catino is travelling with Varela to conclude the deal on their behalf.
He Tweeted on Wednesday: "In San Pablo airport waiting for the connection to London, with Guille [Varela] about to board."
Interesting:). He will probably be used in the U-21's because United have moved a few players on and are rebuilding the squad.

Sir Bobby: 60 years a Red
Sir Bobby Charlton's incredible Manchester United journey began on this day, 60 years ago.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/0FBAC325179E40CD99213344D4E796E8.ashx?20130606T112 2594764
Charlton, then a fresh-faced 16-year-old, had attracted the attention of the club's scouts and it was on 6 June 1953 he reported for his first day's work.
Bobby was taken on as an apprentice and, in between training sessions, worked with the ground staff to maintain the Old Trafford pitch. It was the beginning of one of the most successful careers in English football.
With United, Charlton won three league titles, the FA Cup and the European Cup in 1968, 10 years after surviving the Munich air disaster, a tragedy that claimed 23 lives, including eight of his team-mates and best friends. When Charlton ended his Reds career he was the club's leading scorer, with 249 goals (a record that still stands).
In his autobiography, published in 2007, Sir Bobby recalled his first days at Old Trafford.
"It seemed I had, after all, been given access to my idea of paradise. I had the friendship of great young footballers who were ready to accept me and so clearly shared my passion to play the game that had always been an inspiration. The days stretched ahead of me so excitingly."

New kit: Pride & prestige
Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck sat down recently to talk about what it means to pull on the famous red shirt of Manchester United...
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/FC90B7322C7E48549A20858CFD8F72D3.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=96,1,496,600
Ferdinand: “It’s hard to put into words what it means to wear the shirt. Each year you put the new kit on and see how it feels. I see how the socks feel, most importantly, because your feet have to be comfortable. You don’t want the shorts to be too tight or the shirt to be too heavy. In the past we’ve had a few baggy kits, especially when I first signed, but each year they’ve got a little bit more snug, which I personally prefer when you’re out on the pitch. When you see the red kit it brings a smile to your face and you feel proud. It’s about trying to replicate the club’s history. That’s the biggest thing for me. I said when I signed for the club that I wanted to become a part of its great history, an integral part, and to do that you’ve got to wear this beautiful kit.”
Welbeck: “It’s always a proud moment to pull on the shirt especially given the fact I’m a Manchester boy. I’ve supported the club all my life and to have come through the ranks and got into the first-team is a real privilege and honour. This club has so much history and there have been so many fantastic memories created by the players who have represented this club, past and present. It’s just great to be part of it.”
Cleverley: “It’s an iconic shirt. The club’s always worn red for as long as I can remember, and even before that going back to the likes of legends like George Best and Denis Law. It’s a shirt I’ve wanted to pull on since I was a boy and you get a real sense of achievement when you do it. Hopefully I can still be wearing the red shirt of Manchester United for many years to come. I’m a fan of [this season’s kit]. It’s traditional, it’s quite plain but I like the red, white and black and I like the collar on it. The most important thing is the fit, though. As long as you feel comfortable and it’s the right size – not too tight and you’re free to do what you need to do on the pitch – that’s the most important thing."
I really like the new top too!

Welbeck interviews Rio
Danny Welbeck usually spends his time scoring goals, but when the players were given a first look at the new United home kit, we asked Danny to interview his friend and team-mate Rio Ferdinand to see what the defender made of the new jersey.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/1F62D1A2033849308E62D98DDE3B1ED2.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,8,600,230
DW: So Rio, are you excited to see the new kit?
RF: I am, yeah. It’s always good to have a look at the new kit before it comes out.
Will you be wearing the collar up or down?
Down. There’s only one person who should be wearing the collar up and that’s Eric Cantona. He’s retired now.
One of your fellow team members has worn it up in today’s photoshoot...
Who’s that? Is it Wazza?
You’ll see the pictures...
Is it Wazza?
That’s a good guess.
Why’s he trying to do a Cantona? There’s only one Cantona! [laughs]
That’s Wazza for you, isn’t it?... How important is the look and the feel of the shirt?
I think the look’s really important. When you feel comfortable in a shirt you can go out and express yourself maybe that little bit better, even if it’s just adding that one per cent to your well-being. This kit fits nicely, it’s comfortable, the texture’s nice... I don’t know too much about the ins and outs of the technology, whether it retains water or the water runs off it, for instance, but I do like the kit. It’s nice.
Going into the United dressing room on a matchday, how good is it to see the kit lined up?
As long as your name’s in there you’re happy. You don’t want to go in there and see everybody else’s shirt and yours is still in the bag! I just think back to when I was a kid and I always dreamed about wearing certain kits. I dreamt of wearing the England kit and the England kit was the first one I ever owned. My uncle bought it for me – the red one. To be honest, though, I’m still like a kid when I see a new kit. You want to feel it, you want to see how the socks fit, the smell, the texture... I don’t think you ever lose that.
On a matchday do you have any routines you follow?
Have you not seen them?
Well, I’m usually too busy doing my own thing.
Mine change over the years. If I’m playing well then I’ll continue to do certain things. If I’ve had a beast then I’ll change a few things. One thing I do is I always splash water on my face in the tunnel.
I’ve seen that, to be fair.
And as soon as I go over the line to go out onto the pitch I jump in the air. And then I run over to the corner flag. The list goes on and on... I have certain foods I eat too.
If you miss something out, does it play on your mind?
I try not to let it. It used to when I was younger but I try not to let it now. I just get through it and carry on. I don’t let it weigh me down.

Rafael relishing Brazil break
Rafael is relishing the opportunity to revel in the glory of a third Barclays Premier League title whilst at home in Brazil.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/55CC68B2ECEE4D278DDAF3458D631ECA.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,199,543,400
The Reds' right-back is having a break over the summer in his homeland after a successful campaign on a personal and collective level. Although his red card against Chelsea will rule him out of the first game of next season, the 22-year-old has certainly earned the chance to enjoy himself in the South American sunshine.
When asked by Inside United where he stores his medals, he replied: "To be honest, I give them to my Dad and he has a room in Brazil. It’s nice as he has many things in there – shirts, important jerseys, boots, shinpads, everything. It’s nice.
"I'm going back home this summer. I play beach-volleyball there. I like it and I have [facilities] at my home now as well. I love to play it with my friends. I will stay there for all the summer so it’s nice to be with my friends. It’s very enjoyable.
"You know what I miss most? When I go back, I always like Fridays when I have an old friend around and we play football and have a barbeque after that. I miss that, you know, because it’s good. We have music too. We bring some guys to play songs like samba – I enjoy that a lot. It relaxes me back there. Sometimes you have to do these things. It’s a hard season so, when I go on holiday, I want to relax with my friends and family."
I hope that Rafael enjoys his deserved break:).

Neville rates Kagawa
Gary Neville is expecting bigger things from Shinji Kagawa next season but believes the Japanese star will have no fixed position in the United team.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/47D94ED2C2F14F29A6F47871FBFF2FC0.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=1,18,481,197
Shinji enjoyed a promising first campaign at Old Trafford, in which he featured both in an attacking central midfield role and on the left wing for the champions.
Some observers feel Kagawa will eventually establish himself behind a main striker, a position in which he was so effective for his former club Borussia Dortmund.
But Reds legend Neville, who is now a club ambassador and TV pundit, reckons incoming manager David Moyes will continue to deploy the midfielder in different areas.
The ex-captain told ManUtd.jp: “It was a stop-start season because he had some injuries and hasn’t settled into a definite position yet, which is something he is going to have to work out in the next 12 months.
“His best position is in a central role because that’s where he played for Dortmund, and he will feel he can influence the game the most there.
“But at times, earlier on in the season when he was off the front, he was a little bit lost. I preferred him on the left-hand side so he could watch the game from a different position.
“You can get the best out of players like Shinji by playing them in different positions. In Europe, maybe he will play off the front and in the Premier League on the left, but I don’t think he will be fixed in one position."
Neville believes Shinji offers something different to the United team and highlighted the numerous assets he feels will come to the fore in 2013/14.
"He will be better next season," Neville added. "Towards the end of this season he showed glimpses of what he could do, particularly in the Norwich game and at West Ham, which I think was his best match.
"He is an intelligent player with good energy, he can spot a run and his own runs are excellent, he is tidy on the ball, he can get out of tight situations and I think we will see more of a goalscoring influence and a final-third impact next season.
"That’s what he will want from himself, but I think the best is yet to come. That is the overriding thing for Shinji Kagawa."
Nice words by Gary Neville about Shinji Kagawa:). I think that Shinji will be much better next season too now he had this debut season to settle in and adjust to the United/Premier League style of play in England.

Gill: Plans in the pipeline
United chief executive David Gill has revealed that plans are in the pipeline to arrange more Legends games in the future.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/D7949C7B7F1A4CAB847156C33E8BAAA6.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,623,232
The Reds' veterans tackled their Real Madrid counterparts at the weekend as a crowd in excess of 60,000 raised over £800,000 for the Manchester United Foundation. It was an enjoyable occasion for all involved and Gill feels another world-famous club could provide the opposition in a two-legged charity affair similar to the one organised against the Spanish side.
"I think we will look to do it every couple of years probably," Gill informed ManUtd.com. "That's our plan. We don't want to do it every year but we can do something every two years.
"An away game with another big European giant - play them away and then come back to Old Trafford in 2015. It's something we want to do and the most important thing is it raises a fantastic amount of money to be put to worthwhile causes by the Foundation to further their aims."
There was plenty of interest generated in the family-themed occasion with top chart acts JLS, Tinchy Stryder and Amelia Lily ensuring a spectacular afternoon of entertainment at the Theatre of Dreams.
"It was fantastic," he said of Sunday's Red Heart United day. "It was a beautiful event and a beautiful occasion. It raised a lot of money for a great cause so we're delighted.
"The weather was fantastic for Manchester too and you saw the enthusiasm of the crowd and the players really enjoyed it - people like Ruud [van Nistelrooy] coming back and scoring a great goal at the Stretford End. It was a great event with the artists coming in but a lot of work has gone on from the Foundation staff and club staff. These events don't just happen - a lot of great work was put in behind the scenes to make it the day it was."
Van Nistelrooy's goal was the highlight of the match itself from a United perspective as the Reds were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Real, with the Spaniards claiming a 5-3 aggregate triumph.
"In the first half, Edwin [van der Sar] kept us in the game clearly, as he's done over the years, but when Ruud swapped sides and played for us, he added some pace in attack," added Gill. "We could've scored when Dwight [Yorke] hit the bar and it was a decent game but the occasion and what it means was the most important thing."
The chief executive departs his role at the end of the month but is retaining a place on the board and will still see United in action regularly.
"Maybe I'll be more relaxed now," he replied, when asked if he can celebrate goals with even more gusto. "We'll see! I'm leaving at the end of June so that's another four weeks and it's been a great, great ride and I've enjoyed it. I'll still be a director so I'm coming to the games but it's now David Moyes and Ed Woodward doing the player stuff.
"I can read the papers and think: 'Is that really happening?' You never know whether it is and it's often not the case, it's just in the papers! It's been brilliant and anyone who works for this club really cherishes it and enjoys it. That's been the case for me and I'm looking forward now."
Great news!

Former Manchester United and England star Brian Greenhoff has died at the age of 60.
The skilful centre-half, who also played in midfield, passed away at his home in Rochdale this morning.
Brian, who was born in Barnsley, joined United in 1968 after representing Yorkshire Schoolboys.
He played in the same team as his brother, Jimmy, who joined the Reds in 1976.
Brian lifted the FA Cup with his beloved United in 1977 and won a Second Division winners medal in 1975.
He made 271 appearances for the Reds, scoring 17 times and won 18 caps for his country.
Brian's first-team bow came at the age of just 20 in 1973 and played his last game for United in 1979.
He was worshipped by the Stretford End and something of a cult hero with fans recognising him as one of their own.
Brian headed back across the Pennines to join Leeds United following his stint at Old Trafford and later went on to play for and coach Rochdale.
He moved with his family to Menorca before returning to Rochdale and last year wrote an autobiography.
Police were called to Brian's address this morning following reports of a sudden death as a matter of procedure.
The case has now been passed to the coroner.
60 is too young an age to go at. R.I.P.

De Gea makes winning start
David De Gea kept his gloves clean as Spain made a winning start in the UEFA Under-21 Championships, recording a slender 1-0 win over Russia in Jerusalem on Thursday.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/D3DE3FC04C5B46E29B36DBBC8E9DA6B5.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,731,3456,2009
The Manchester United goalkeeper played a full match as part of an experienced team that is hoping to win back-to-back European titles, although Julen Lopetegui's champions were partly frustrated by a combination of their own awry finishing and some stubborn Russian defending.
In the end, the match was ultimately decided by substitute and debutant Álvaro Morata, whose headed goal eight minutes from time means Spain sit joint-top of Group B ahead of Sunday’s clash with Germany, who lost their opener to Netherlands.
Elsewhere in the tournament, incoming Reds forward Wilfried Zaha hopes to face Norway on Saturday after missing England’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Italy earlier in the week.
The former Crystal Palace star, who will officially join his new team-mates at Old Trafford on 1 July, was an unused substitute against the Italians but manager Stuart Pearce has confirmed the player trained on Thursday and will be in contention to start this weekend.
In reality, the Three Lions must win the match to stand any realistic chance of qualifying for the semi-finals on 15 June.
Well done to DDG and Spain:).

Uruguay U20 international Guillermo Varela says he is to have a medical at Manchester United on Friday.
The Penarol full-back spent time on trial at Old Trafford at the end of last season and travelled to London from Uruguay on Thursday, speaking to Futbol a lo Penarol radio before he left.
He said: "I will have a medical on Friday and on Saturday I join the Uruguay Under-20 national team.
"I will have to learn English, Rodolfo Catino [Penarol's club treasurer] taught me something, the structure is impressive."
Catino also spoke to Futbol a lo Penarol radio before travelling to England.
He added: "The deal has been agreed, we now have to discuss some points, there won't be any percentage regarding any future transfer.
"The deal can be as much as 2.8 million Euros. Guille will adapt quickly to Manchester."
Manchester United have yet to comment on any deal for Varela.

Profile: Guillermo Varela
On Friday, Manchester United reached an agreement with Club Atlético Peñarol to sign Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/0341F3FA027E485A96A8188E5C5714D5.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,1,600,448
Here, we assess the highly-rated youngster and learn more about his promising career...
The basics: Varela, who was born in Montevideo on 24 March 1993, is an ambitious full-back who plays on the right flank for South American giants Penarol in his native Uruguay.
The background: The 20-year-old has made one first-team appearance at the Centenario Stadium but is a regular for Uruguay's Under-20s with nine caps to his name.
The links: Guillermo recently completed a trial at Carrington and later spoke positively about the experience to South American radio station Tirando Paredes: “I have trained with the first-team. I am very happy and I was received very well. It was a surprise to get the chance to test myself with Manchester United. I'm glad and happy, and grateful to Penarol who allowed me to travel. I was treated so well and Chicharito helped me a lot.”
The manager: “This is what he deserves. It is a shame to see him go but you can’t deny him the opportunity to join a club like this.” – Penarol head coach Jorge Da Silva.
The future: After reaching an agreement at Carrington on Friday, Varela's next step is to fly to Turkey to represent Uruguay at the World Under-20 Championships – where future team-mates Angelo Henriquez (Chile), Sam Johnstone, Tom Thorpe and Larnell Cole (England) are also taking part. The tournament begins on Friday 21 June.

Zaha buy upholds traditions
The signing of Wilfried Zaha upholds United's tradition of maintaining a strong English presence within the playing squad, according to David Gill.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/FF9456BBB37042D7A0F8C3BBBE692569.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,56,590,275
The Reds' outgoing chief executive wrapped up a deal for the tricky winger in the final transfer of his time in office, and sees the deal as exciting business for the Barclays Premier League champions.
“It’s quite interesting that for England recently we had five players in the team, which is good for us," says Gill, in the club's official new book Champions 20|13.
"The backbone of Manchester United has always been this way. Matt Busby had it and Alex [Ferguson] has nurtured it himself – this mix between British or English players and foreigners – and that’s what this club is about.
"It’s going to be a big learning curve for him [Zaha], he knows that. But I think he’s going to be an exciting Manchester United player; that’s our view. He’s something different. He can beat a man, he can play in the middle or wide. It’s great for us."
Zaha was immediately loaned back to Palace after completing his January transfer to Old Trafford and helped the Eagles to secure promotion back to the Barclays Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
“Seeing where our squad was at, it wasn’t appropriate to bring him in back in January," said Gill. "It was better for him to continue playing with Palace before joining us in the summer. So we did a deal and that was a precondition, really. We were very happy when we spoke to the chairman of Palace that it was only to be done on that basis.
“He’s a player we knew and Alex had been following. We’d seen him and we were scouting him a lot in the Championship – a lot of teams were – and we just felt that because of his age, his potential and what he can bring to Manchester United it was the right thing to do – even if he’s still quite raw in a lot of respects, as a young man."

Ex-Red knocks out England
There was a tale of Manchester United players past and future as England Under-21s bowed out of the European Championships with one game to spare.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/6C06FA31AA2542E38694C9954A2DDC0C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,78,800,376
Even though the Reds' incoming winger Wilfried Zaha returned from injury to start, the Three Lions were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Norway for whom ex-United midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem fired in the third goal, via the underside of the crossbar.
West Brom defender Craig Dawson pulled one back for England from the penalty spot, but the damage had really been done in the first half when Fredrik Semb Berge and Jo Inge Berget, Eikrem's colleague at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's club Molde, put Norway 2-0 up.
The result means England, who lost their tournament opener to Italy 1-0, cannot qualify for next weekend's semi-finals. Tuesday's match against hosts Israel will only decide which of the two teams finishes bottom of Group A.

Manchester United's Robin van Persie stunned by Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement
http://e2.365dm.com/13/04/660x350/SirAlexFergusonandRobinVanPersie_2929729.jpg?20130 414154351
Manchester United striker Robin van Persie admits Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to slip into retirement left him stunned.
Ferguson brought the curtain down on a glittering spell in the Old Trafford hot-seat with a 13th Premier League title in 2012/13.
The legendary Scot had announced on 8th May that he was set to step aside, with United moving quickly to appoint David Moyes as his successor.
News of Ferguson's decision to call it a day rocked the football world - after 27 years with the Red Devils - and Van Persie concedes that no-one was more surprised than him.
The Dutch striker, who was signed by Ferguson from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, said in The Sun: "Sir Alex came through the dressing room door and the first thing he said was that he was retiring.
"I had to gasp for breath and I shook my head. Had he really said what I thought he'd said?
"The room fell deathly quiet and then everyone became emotional.
"Sir Alex then had a long talk with the squad. I found it a very special speech and felt privileged to have witnessed it.
"It was an historical moment for football, even though I was not happy to hear his message."
I still am too RVP:(.

De Gea reaches semi-finals
David De Gea kept another clean sheet as Spain’s Under-21s reached the semi-finals of the European Championship with a 1-0 win over Germany in Israel.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/4A56FCE957EE4DA392E7034826EF5763.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,76,998,447
The Manchester United goalkeeper was rarely tested in a match decided by Alvaro Morata, who came off the bench to drive home a late winner for the second successive game, having netted in Spain’s opening 1-0 win over Russia.
The result confirmed Spain’s progression to the last four alongside the Netherlands and those two sides will meet on Wednesday to decide who finishes top of Group B.
De Gea’s semi-final will be on Saturday against either Norway or Italy, the two sides who have progressed from Group A at England’s expense.
Well done to David De Gea and his Spain U-21 team mates:).

Robin ready for new era
Robin van Persie insists United's players must relish the dawn of a new age at Old Trafford.

David Moyes replaces Sir Alex Ferguson in the Reds' first managerial change in more than a quarter of a century, and van Persie sees the switch as cause for excitement rather than trepidation.
“It will be a new era and I am looking forward to it," Robin told MUTV. "It is part of our job as well. We have to deal with the new situation and how it is.
"First we can enjoy last year a little. We have a summer break which we should all take and enjoy. And then, slowly, after a couple of weeks, we will start to think about next season and, of course, we are looking forward to next season."
Despite the change of manager and members of United's backroom staff, van Persie is adamant expectations will remain undiluted, with the retention of the Barclays Premier League title top of the Reds' agenda for 2013/14.
"It is going to be a new era and a new challenge, with a new manager, maybe some new players coming," he said. "[Wilfried] Zaha is coming in from Crystal Palace, maybe some more. Maybe some will leave, nobody knows.
"But it is going to be a new challenge and everybody knows what our standards are: we want to win the league again and then hopefully add one or two trophies to that."
Indeed Robin and I am ready/excited for the new era too! It will feel weird for the first year without the legend that is Sir Alex Ferguson as Manager though.

Comm. Shield details confirmed
Manchester United's Community Shield fixture against Wigan Athletic at Wembley Stadium will kick-off at 14:00 BST on Sunday 11 August.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/1AFC8708C6454828872B4944F134F177.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,242,817,546
The Football Association confirmed the date and kick-off time today (Monday 10 June) for the season's traditional curtain-raiser between England's league champions and FA Cup winners.
The Community Shield will be David Moyes' first competitive game in charge of the Reds and United fans have received a ticket allocation of 35,000. Ticket prices are frozen at last season’s prices and are available at £45, £35, £25 and £20. Fans can apply now.
FA general secretary Alex Horne said: "You have to go all the way back to 1985 for the last time that Manchester United played in this fixture without Sir Alex Ferguson on the touchline so the eyes of the world will be on the Community Shield and Wembley when David Moyes leads them out in August.
“Wigan Athletic provided a fairytale ending to this season’s FA Cup Final, which was fitting in our 150th anniversary year, and it will be great to welcome them back to Wembley as they take on the double challenge of Europa League football and the Championship.
“The 2pm kick-off time has been agreed by all the relevant authorities and means that both sets of supporters can travel back to the north-west.”
Glad this has been confirmed.

Nine Reds to be released
The Premier League’s list of released players, published on Friday, features the retiring Paul Scholes and eight Manchester United youngsters.
Scholes, who played his last match for the club on 19 May, is on the list of players formally being released on 1 July.
Michele Fornasier is the most active member of United's Under-21s to be on the list after forming a solid central defensive partnership with Tom Thorpe for much of the 2012/13 campaign. Frederic Veseli, a free transfer arrival from Manchester City, is also seeking a new club after injury ended his season prematurely.
Reece Brown has been released after finishing the term on loan at Ipswich Town while midfielder Luke Giverin spent most of the season at Royal Antwerp.
Luke Hendrie, John Cofie, Luke McCullough and Gyliano van Velzen are also available after finding it difficult to claim a place in the Reds' successful Under-21 team.
Everyone at Manchester United wishes the departing players well for the future.
I wish the young United lads that have been released well for the future!

Van der Gouw rates Büttner
Former keeper Raimond van der Gouw believes Alex Büttner can be satisfied with his first season at Manchester United.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/060BC1006A0E45BBBADA282E64E193D0.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,249,559,457
Van der Gouw, who played in the Red Heart United Legends match against Real Madrid recently, is currently goalkeeping coach at Vitesse Arnhem.
Büttner left Vitesse in the summer to join the Reds and played 13 games in all, starting all but one of those matches, and scored a couple of goals for good measure.
"I don't get to see United as much as I want to because I'm too busy with the job at my club in Holland," van der Gouw told ManUtd.com. "But I think Alex can be pleased.
"He did really well. I think he wants to play a few more minutes of course but it depends on how it goes for next season. I read an article from him and he said he had a chat with Patrice Evra and [he'd said] that Alex should be very happy with the minutes he's played now as it was a massive step from where he was coming from."
Vitesse enjoyed a fine campaign in Büttner's absence, reaching the Europa League qualifying stages, which begin next month.
"We had a very good season," explained van der Gouw. "We finished fourth in the league and, next season, will play in Europe – we just have to play a few qualification games. So it was really good."

Manchester United's Shinji Kagawa has big hopes for next season

Shinji Kagawa has set his sights on becoming as influential as his Manchester United team-mates Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.
The 24-year-old found life in the Premier League tough at times after joining United from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but an improvement in form since the turn of the year has given renewed hope to the midfielder.
His confidence is an area Kagawa wants to work on if he is to be as good as his illustrious team-mates, and the Japan international hopes to build on this at the Confederations Cup, which starts this Saturday.
"I wasn't satisfied with my overall performance but I played well in the second half of the season and started to get more and more confidence," he told Sports Illustrated.
"Hopefully, I can keep that going at the Confederations Cup.
"In this business, you need to be like Rooney or Van Persie and prove yourself if you want the ball.
"I want to be a player like them, which means I need results."
Shinji needs more confidence, but I do think that he will improve next season:).

Reds complete Varela deal
Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela has completed his move to Manchester United. The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract.
http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BMfHHftCcAAIrp2.jpg
Varela impressed in a two-week trial at Carrington in May and will now vie with Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez (signed in September 2012 but loaned to Wigan Athletic shortly afterwards) to become the 11th South American to make a first-team appearance for the Reds.
The defender, who will represent Uruguay at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey later this month, is looking forward to starting life at Old Trafford next season.
“I’m very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world,” he said. “As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues."
Varela should settle quickly into the United dressing room given the global make-up of the Reds squad.
“I’m very lucky there are quite a few Spanish-speakers here,” he said. “It will certainly help me settle in.”
Fans will be able to watch an exclusive interview with Guillermo Varela on ManUtd.com at 16:00 BST.

De Gea relishes Moyes era
David De Gea admits he is looking forward to working under new Manchester United manager David Moyes once his duties with Spain at the European Under-21 Championship are over.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/0AE0415A695D406EA24C0A0F76F9AE08.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,11,800,309
Moyes will officially succeed the recently-retired Sir Alex Ferguson on 1 July and, during a short interview with Spanish media, De Gea was quizzed on the high-profile changing of guard at Old Trafford.
"It was a surprise to us all that Ferguson left," David explained. "But we know that when we get back to training he [Moyes] will be there and it is going to be a pleasure to work with him."
But De Gea isn't thinking too much about next season yet. He knows there is plenty of work to do with Spain at the Euros before then.
The 22-year-old has played every minute of the competition thus far, keeping two clean sheets in wins over Russia and Germany to secure a semi-final place ahead of Wednesday’s Group B decider with the Netherlands.
“It was very important,” David said of Spain’s 1-0 win against Germany on Sunday. “We are into the semi-finals again and we are very happy with that.
“They are all good teams when you get to this stage of a tournament; they all have a lot of quality. It will be difficult whoever we face.
“We have had two tough games and, thankfully, we have been lucky enough to get through.”
De Gea is also hoping to claim back-to-back European titles after winning in Denmark two summers ago. It's a plan that contrasts starkly with the endeavours of England, who exited both tournaments at the group stage – a fact that shocked the United starlet.
“I'm surprised with England as I would have expected them to have put up more of a fight and win more points,” David explained. “I thought they would have been in the semi-finals, but that is football. Sometimes these things happen.”

De Gea takes the plaudits
David De Gea maintained his perfect record in the European Under-21 Championship, keeping a third consecutive clean sheet as Spain thrashed the Netherlands 3-0 to top Group B.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8BB7A87C41AF4D9DB1509292D6082E32.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,122,2250,1796
Incredibly, the Manchester United goalkeeper is yet to concede in the competition and his performance at the Ha Moshava Stadium on Wednesday earned rave reviews - having made three key saves to deny Mike van der Hoorn, Memphis Depay and Adam Maher.
Goals from Alvaro Morata, Isco and Alvaro Vazquez helped the defending champions set up a semi-final meeting with Norway on Saturday - although it was De Gea who stole the plaudits to earn the Man of the Match award from Spanish television.
Afterwards, Spain manager Julen Lopetegui hailed his team’s display and De Gea’s heroics in between the sticks: “We try to keep the ball and defend and attack with it, and also to get the ball back when we lose it,” he said.
“We're happy not to have conceded but apart from the quality of the team overall, David was sensational in two or three incidents, we have to recognise that.
“The whole team has a brilliant attitude when we don't have the ball but I'm only moderately happy as the next game will be completely different.”
Well done to Spain and I am glad that David had a fantastic game. I missed it, but am so pleased that he is proving all of his doubters wrong and his class/quality is obvious for everyone to see now!:)

Evans backed for captaincy
Norman Whiteside believes it is only a matter of time before Jonny Evans becomes Northern Ireland captain on a full-time basis.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/14529FA8349941FD97634A9491B9CD60.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,800,298
The 25-year-old has long been a mainstay in defence for his country, even if a number of his caps have been won in a full-back role, and is one of the most senior figures available to coach Michael O'Neill.
However, he has yet to take on the armband, with Southampton's Steven Davis currently enjoying that honour. Whiteside outlined his admiration for his fellow countryman in an exclusive interview to promote the Charity Challenge at Carrington on 22 June, when fans can compete in a seven-a-side tournament.
"Jonny has done brilliantly," Whiteside told ManUtd.com. "I think it's his third Premier League title and he's got stronger and stronger.
"Even going back to him getting sent to Royal Antwerp and Sunderland, that gives players a lot of confidence when they are playing regular football. It's what they are sent out for – to come back a better player – and so did Danny Welbeck. It shows you the loan system works.
"I'm sure he will be captain of Northern Ireland before too long," Whiteside asserted. "Because he'd be one of the best players, I would have thought he would be captain already. I've not yet seen him wear the armband though.
"Over the years, Manchester United have traditionally had players from Northern Ireland. Before me even, there were people like George Best and Sammy McIlroy and now there's Jonny.
"There has always been a great association with Northern Irish players, and ones from all over Ireland in the Republic as well as the North."
Evans, who has also been tipped as a future captain of United, has his next international date on 14 August when the rearranged World Cup qualifier with Russia is scheduled to take place at Windsor Park.
I agree with this!

Manchester United’s Japanese star Shinji Kagawa has made his first move to impress new manager David Moyes by offering to cut short his holidays to join the club on tour this summer.
Kagawa – who had a mixed debut season at Old Trafford – is due to be given extra time off in July as he is about to spend three weeks playing for his country in the Confederations Cup and hasn’t yet had a break following the conclusion of his Barclays Premier League campaign.
But Sportsmail understands that the 24-year-old has offered to join Moyes and his squad for the Japanese leg of United’s pre-season tour as a gesture of goodwill.
He follows new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who claimed that he could start the pre-season campaign already.
'I don't need a holiday. I'm sorry we don't start training tomorrow!' said the Portuguese boss.
Kagawa will in all likelihood not be fit enough to play in games in Tokyo and Osaka but is keen to meet Moyes, train with the squad and help United with the promotional obligations they have to their raft of sponsors in that part of the world.
Visiting Japan without Kagawa would hamper United’s efforts to make that leg of the tour a resounding success, something the player took in to account when making his decision.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward is hugely popular in his home country and just having him on the bench or in the stands for games against Yokohama Marinos on July 23 at Nissan Stadium and Cerezo Osaka on three days later at Osaka Nagai Stadium will ensure the stadiums are full for those games.
Several years ago, for example, United’s former South Korea star Park Ji-sung sat on the bench for a United pre-season game in Seoul.
Even though he wasn’t fit enough to play he was still given the man-of-the-match award by the local sponsors just for the way he waved at the stadium cameras from the sidelines.
Kagawa scored six league goals for United last season but his efforts were hampered by a knee injury. Just last week he said he hoped to learn from United team-mates Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie and improve his levels for Moyes next season.
Good lad Shinji:).

Kagawa: Japan can win in Brazil
Shinji Kagawa is adamant Japan can win the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil and the Manchester United playmaker can’t wait to get started.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/32858EBFE56A4014BC8226873DF9837A.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=640,0,5315,3487
Although the competition is traditionally viewed as a warm-up for next summer's World Cup, offering the host nation a chance to fine-tune stadia and other logistical issues, Kagawa is taking it seriously and insists his team-mates will not be making up the numbers.
And just a month after bagging his first Barclays Premier League title with United, the 24-year-old wants to develop his burgeoning medal collection and is excited to test himself against Group A foes Brazil, Italy and Javier Hernandez’s Mexico.
“Our opponents are all excellent teams, so this will be a good gauge of how we can perform away from home with a year to go until the World Cup,” Shinji told FIFA.com ahead of Saturday’s curtain-raiser against the hosts at the newly-built Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia.
“We need this sort of preparation, and I want to see how we handle the atmosphere and how far we can go. We’re going there to win, so the question will be how we can achieve that. That’s my mind-set going into this tournament.
“All the teams have many fantastic players, and each team has its own individual style. Our defence and attack need to be in sync, and even then we won’t win unless we work hard. But this is why I play the game, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Kagawa's Japan start with defeat
Shinji Kagawa's FIFA Confederations Cup campaign began in disappointment on Saturday evening following Japan's 3-0 defeat to hosts Brazil.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/C8A993FCEB564C97A55D9FE6986990DE.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,238,700,497
Kagawa completed the full 90 minutes in the competition's Group A curtain-raiser at the newly-built Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia. It was the first international match to use goal-line technology, but it was not needed for any decisions.
Brazil took the lead after just three minutes thanks to a stunning 20-yard strike from Barcelona's summer signing Neymar.
Japan weren't about to let the early strike derail them, but while they passed the ball well and enjoyed some good possession, there was a lack of penetration in the final third.
Hulk and Fred each went close to doubling Brazil's advantage as the half went on, before Paulinho made it 2-0 three minutes after the restart. It was a fine strike from the Brazilian who controlled Dani Alves' cross and hammered a low shot past Japan stopper Eiji Kawashima.
Substitute Jo, formerly of Manchester City, made sure of the victory in injury-time, scoring with his first touch after being set up brilliantly by Oscar.
The second game in Group A between Javier Hernandez's Mexico and Italy takes place on Sunday, KO 20:00 BST.

De Gea reaches historic final
David De Gea is on the verge of making history after reigning champions Spain comfortably beat Norway 3-0 to reach the final of the European Under-21 Championship in Israel.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8BB7A87C41AF4D9DB1509292D6082E32.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,148,2250,985
Saturday’s result prolonged the Manchester United goalkeeper’s perfect record in the competition, having not conceded a single goal in four matches, and means he is now just 90 minutes away from retaining the continental crown that was won so admirably in Denmark two summers ago.
As well as this, De Gea will also equal Santi Denia’s Spanish Under-21 appearance record if he features in Tuesday’s showpiece final against Italy in Jerusalem, which is almost inevitable given the 22-year-old’s heroics throughout the prestigious tournament.
Impressively, in a reflection of Spain’s dominance on Saturday, De Gea did not make a single save and was able to watch in delight as his team-mates cruised to a semi-final victory thanks to goals from Rodrigo, Isco and Álvaro Morata.
And prior to kick-off, David explained how he has mentored the younger Spanish players, calling for focus at a crucial time in their lives: “The message we try to transmit to the group is that this is a unique tournament that you might only play once in your career, or if you are very lucky, twice.”
Well done to David De Gea and the Spain U-21's and I hope that they win in the final against Italy:).

Amos elbow op successful
Young Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos is confident he'll be fit to report for pre-season training after he underwent a minor operation on Friday 14 June.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/0C78A9D09A894038A67209EA24BC6B0D.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,104,800,402
Amos, who spent the first six months of 2012/13 on loan at promotion-chasing Hull City before returning to the Reds to help steer Warren Joyce's Under-21s side to the title, will be hoping to build on that experience next season.
He's already played seven times for United's first team and has pre-season tour experience with the Reds dating back to 2008 when he was just 18.
This summer the champions head to Thailand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong, and Amos, despite Friday's operation, believes he'll be fit for purpose should new manager David Moyes call on him.
Early on Friday morning Amos revealed on Twitter he was "off for a little procedure on my elbow". Five hours later, he provided a positive update.
"Apparently all went well. 5mm bit of bone taken out and excess bone shaved down," he tweeted. "Recovery time hopefully 10 days just in time for pre season!"
The Reds' first summer fixture is against a Singha All Star XI in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday 13 July.
Glad it has gone well:).

Asia visit excites Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is relishing the chance to lead the Reds during the summer visits to Australia and Asia in preparation for the new season.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/F00F2E8B1B464AB3A6FB0BBF73964C1E.ashx?20130617T133 4351034
The Reds will play matches in Bangkok, Sydney, Yokohama, Osaka and Hong Kong as part of Tour 2013 Presented By Aon and Vidic says all the players are looking forward to the trip, especially the Asian leg.
"I’m very excited. We’ve had good experiences in Asia before and I hope we have a good one again," he told ManUtd.com. "We know we have supporters all around the world and we try each year to give them a chance to see a game and meet us. United have done a great job at that over the years.
"The fans in Asia are always very excited to see us and are very passionate about Manchester United. They respect the players and they love the club. Even at Old Trafford you can see so many of them each week – they fly all the way to Manchester to watch the games.
"It’s always been nice for us to see the different countries when we travel to Asia and I’m sure we’ll have another good experience this time."

RvP: 20 moments and more
With the Barclays Premier League 2013/14 fixtures due for release on Wednesday 19 June, we’ll soon be looking ahead to the new campaign. But in the latest issue of Inside United magazine, on sale this week, Robin van Persie has one last glance back at what was an incredible debut campaign at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/59283D66A96448D184FCD30393756972.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=403,0,669,398
United’s no.20, who scored 30 goals, won his first league winners’ medal and bagged the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award as voted for by the fans, picks out the 20 moments that made his first year in Manchester so special.
On scoring his first Reds hat-trick at Southampton in September, he says: “This was my first experience of United’s famous never-say-die attitude. It was a crazy match but we never gave up. I still think about the penalty I missed. I was so lucky to have a chance to make that mistake right by scoring another two goals.”
Of his stunning volley against Aston Villa in April, supplied by Wayne Rooney’s sumptuous pass, Robin says: “It was instinct. I looked up and thought: ‘This ball is so nice, it’s too beautiful to take a touch’.” And of United's supporters, he enthused: "The whole season the fans have been unbelievable from my very first match at Old Trafford."
But for the smooth-talking Dutchman the best experience is how all these moments came together, resulting in United’s 20th – and his first – league title. “I have to say that winning a trophy is fantastic,” he adds. “It’s great but the road to the trophy is maybe even nicer. Being together every day and working on details, getting better step-by-step, beating opponents and then at the end of all that is the result and the trophy.”
With the new season creeping ever closer, van Persie's final message whets the appetite for what promises to be an enthralling, intriguing campaign under new boss David Moyes. “It’s been an honour and I’m still thrilled about what’s happened in the last 10 months or so,” he concludes. “Hopefully we can do even better, crack on and win even more trophies.”

De Gea targets world accolade
David De Gea is determined to become the best goalkeeper in world football – although the Manchester United goalkeeper says he has work to do before earning such a tag.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C7DC522D68EF4C0AA25A371926B86B45.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,2,936,699
The 22-year-old was outstanding for much of the 2012/13 season, helping the Reds secure the Barclays Premier League title whilst winning a place in the PFA Team of the Year. He also finished third in the voting for the club's prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
To conclude an excellent campaign, De Gea is currently starring for Spain in the European Under-21 Championship in Israel, keeping four clean sheets en route to Tuesday night’s showpiece final against Italy at Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium.
“I have grown a lot,” David told Spanish newspaper AS when quizzed on his development since joining the Reds from Atlético Madrid in 2011. “I am more experienced, I have played a lot of games for United, and I am sure of myself and confident.
“Of course, I am very grateful for the effort they (United) made to buy me and for the support they gave me. First Atlético, then United trusted in me.
“My objective is to be right up there with the best players in the world, that's what makes me excited, and I’m doing everything I can to achieve that.
“I am playing at a very high level. I have had one year playing well but I'm still very young. I think that I still have a way to go before I reach the level of the best in the world.”
As well as his own immeasurable talent, part of De Gea’s personal development must be attributed to United’s coaching staff and former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who signed him as a replacement for the retired Edwin van der Sar.
Of course, when De Gea returns to Manchester for pre-season training, his recently retired manager will have been replaced by David Moyes. And although it will be different, the Spaniard admits he is looking forward to a new chapter for the Reds.
“It will be very strange because Sir Alex spent 26 years at the same club, but this is football, and all eras must come to an end,” he said. “We are delighted that David Moyes is the new coach as he has the same level of enthusiasm as Sir Alex.
“I am very proud to have had the privilege of working with Sir Alex, it was a real pleasure. He is the best coach of all time and working with him is something I will be able to tell my children and my grandchildren about.
“The best advice that he gave me was to simply give my all. He told me to continue with the same mentality I have always had. I owe a lot of my capabilities as a goalkeeper to him.”
DDG is a very honest and down to earth guy:). He definitely has the world class talent, ability and potential to be the best GK in the world.

Manchester United to Play in Stockholm
• Game v AIK Fotboll as part of the Manchester United 2013 Tour, presented by Aon
(NYSE:MANU) Premier League champions Manchester United will play a pre-season match against AIK in Stockholm as part of its 2013 Tour, presented by Aon.

The game will take place on Tuesday 6 August 2013 at Friends Arena.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill said: "I’m delighted that the final game of our preparations for the 2013/14 season will be in the magnificent new home of Swedish football. This match is our first against AIK and will provide a tough test for the players as the new campaign approaches.
"As a club, we have visited Sweden many times and, of course, one of our Treble winners of 1999, Jesper Blomqvist, appeared 30 times for the Swedish national team, as well as playing – and scoring – against United for Gothenburg in the Champions League."
Thomas Perslund, CEO of Friends Arena, said: "We are proud to have Manchester United at Friends Arena and I am sure this game against AIK will be unforgettable for the football fans coming on 6 August."
AIK managing director Thomas Edselius said: "From AIK’s side, we are looking forward to this opportunity to play against one of the most successful clubs in the world. PL fixtures beckon
Manchester United fans will be able to map out the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season on Wednesday when the official fixtures are released at 09:00 BST.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/E558032C31044554AA31F455967FF968.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=294,0,1050,1133
Traditionally a huge day for supporters, it signals the onset of a new campaign and offers a chance to assess key matches and look forward to what will hopefully become another title-winning term.
On the whole, the Reds have a fairly impressive curtain-raiser record throughout the Premier League’s 21-year history, having won 13 times, drawn four and lost only four.
Ironically, one of those defeats was against David Moyes’ Everton at Goodison Park last term, a victory that was the Scot’s fifth first-match triumph during his 11-year tenure with the Toffees.
Of course, on Wednesday, the 50-year-old will discover which team he will face during his top-flight debut in charge of the champions, an occasion that will draw the attention of an intrigued football world.
Your shout
The forthcoming fixture list makes us wonder... who would be the ideal first league opponents for David Moyes? Is it better to face a newly-promoted side, a mid-table foe or one of the big guns? We’ve set up a message board thread on Talking Reds for you to air your views and see if other Reds agree.
Get involved in the debate and post your thoughts ahead of Wednesday’s big announcement. We'll post a selection of the best comments on ManUtd.com.
Tomorrow should be interesting!:)

De Gea wins European crown
David De Gea finished his 2012/13 season a champion on Tuesday as Spain recorded a stylish and comprehensive 4-2 victory over Italy in the final of the UEFA Under-21 Championship.
http://www.manutd.com/styles/images/camera.gif
The Manchester United goalkeeper, who was part of the Spanish squad which won the previous tournament in Denmark two years ago, also made history in Israel by receiving his 27th cap with the age group to equal the all-time appearance record originally set by assistant manager Santi Denia.
The only slight sour note, at least for a perfectionist like De Gea, was that his run of not conceding a single goal during the entire competition was ended by the Italians – but it’s difficult the imagine the Spanish hero losing much sleep over that lost statistic with another winners’ medal around his neck.
In the end, Tuesday’s final was a relatively one-sided affair as the reigning champions flexed their considerable muscle at the Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, exporting the tika-taka style of football that has proved so successful for every Spanish national team of all ages in recent years.
Thiago Alcantara – a reported United target – scored a clinical first-half hat-trick to earn a comfortable 3-1 lead by the break following Ciro Immobile’s riposte. Isco then added a fourth to seemingly wrap up the tie before Liverpool's Fabio Borini snatched consolation with time running out.
Congratulations to the Spain U-21's and David De Gea, well deserved:):D:cool:.
What a season DDG has had and he has proved his critics wrong!

Neville hails Swedish passion
Gary Neville talks to ManUtd.com about United's final pre-season tour match against AIK in Stockholm...
There is huge passion for Manchester United in Scandinavia and it’ll be an occasion everyone over there is looking forward to.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/810713A21DC94B3CB119E8B164B6375F.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,12,807,311
Friends Arena is a wonderful stadium – I was with England for the opening game there [in November 2012] and it’ll be a great atmosphere and a very competitive game. Swedish teams work hard and they’ll be midway through their season then so they’ll be in full flow and fit. It’ll therefore be a step up for the lads in terms of fitness. I think you always want that in pre-season, though – you want that gradual improvement towards the end of it and just ahead of the Community Shield and first game of the season.
The tour is quite frantic but really helps you with your fitness and the games are of an excellent quality, but this one in particular will raise the quality even more and will be a big step forward with regard to fitness.
Sweden is somewhere I’ve always enjoyed visiting. It’s a different culture of fans compared to when you visit Asia, for example. It’s more measured in Scandinavia than it is in Asia, but they’re as passionate about the club in their own way. I always think Scandinavia is a really good place to go and play football. There are lovely places to visit with good, respectful people. That’s always the nice thing about going over there.
I played against Sweden many times for England and also played alongside two of their most famous exports in Henrik Larsson and Jesper Blomqvist.
Henrik was just a fantastic player with a great eye for goal and a really intelligent footballer as well. I had a bad experience of playing in Sweden against Gothenburg in 1994 when Jesper did me for one of the goals! He really was an excellent player. It sounds disrespectful to say this but he was an excellent understudy to Ryan Giggs. He was very slight but had great balance and he was tougher than he looked. And he knew his position very well.
Every pre-season is important and every time Manchester United play a match it’s important, but this time around for the players they really are starting afresh with a new manager to impress. Obviously David Moyes will have watched them previously and will know a lot about them, but it’s only when you actually work closely with somebody that you understand how they work and what they’re like. He’ll be surprised by some players in terms of their level in training – watching players in training is completely different to seeing them in matches.
Pre-season will be a showground to demonstrate to David what they can do and to try and impress him. You always want to impress the Manchester United manager, but the fact that it’s a new one makes it as exciting as ever and it will be demanding and challenging for the players. The old manager knew the players like the back of his hand, but they don’t have that comfort anymore. They need to impress again.

Tate testimonial postponed
The planned testimonial for Alan Tate between Swansea City and a Manchester United XI on Tuesday 13 August has been postponed.

A Reds selection was due to honour Tate, who began his career at United as a trainee and had a loan spell at Royal Antwerp before joining the Swans in 2002, at the Liberty Stadium. The game will now take place at a later date.
Of course, United will still travel to South Wales in August, to begin the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League campaign. That fixture is currently scheduled for Saturday 17 August but, as with all the fixtures, is subject to change (the first set of TV selections will be made in July).

Rio Ferdinand not worried by Manchester United's tough Premier League start
Champions face Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in their first five Premier League games but Rio can't wait to get started
http://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1796445.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Rio-Ferdinand-shouts-instructions-1796445.jpg
Rio Ferdinand is relishing Manchester United's tough start to the defence of their Premier League title and life under new boss David Moyes.
The new fixture list sees United up against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the
first five games of next season for arguably their toughest start in Premier League history.
But rather than fearing such a testing start, United defender Ferdinand told Mirror Sport he and his team-mates will relish the challenge because it will focus their minds from the start of the new campaign.
"It's a lively old start to the season but I think it's a good one," said Ferdinand.
"It can really shape your season. If you can come through those games and you're still in
the mix, the world's your oyster.
"You know you're in for a hard fight facing Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City inside the first five games.
"That's three of our biggest rivals in terms of being local with Liverpool and in terms of winning things with the other two.
"So it's a tough start but I'm sure it's one that we'll warm to and be looking forward to. A start like that can focus your minds, because you know you're working towards something.
"The first day we get back for pre-season, everyone will know we've got a few really hard
games at the start of the season, so we'll need to be in top condition.
"You also can't underestimate Swansea away on the first day of the season. It's a hard place to go, they play good football, so that will be tough too.
"But I think the start we have will focus us as a group, because often you get eased into the season, which has been the case for the past few years.
http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1884639.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/David-Moyes-salutes-the-Everton-fans-1884639.jpg
You can kind of dance your way through the first few games and then the hard games
come along in September and October.
"This time we're straight into it and we've got to hit the ground running.
"You don't necessarily have to have an unbelievable start, but you've got to make sure you're up there within touching distance after the first few games."
Ferdinand, who signed a one-year contract extension this summer, reckons the title race will
be a three-way battle between United, City and Chelsea next season.
"If I'm honest, I think it'll be between us, City and Chelsea," said Ferdinand.
"There might be one other team that comes out of the pack, but I can't really see past the three I mentioned.
"Us, City and Chelsea have obviously all got new managers, but I don't see any of our squads changing that dramatically. Mourinho coming back to Chelsea adds some extra spice.
"He brings a lot of personality to that squad and history tells you he knows how to win.
So Chelsea will definitely be a threat again."

De Gea: I hope Thiago joins Manchester United
David de Gea would love Barcelona midfielder Thiago to join him at Manchester United next season but realises that the Spanish champions will not let go of the 22-year-old without putting up a fight.
http://u.goal.com/288100/288147_heroa.jpg
The Premier League giants are keen to add some fresh blood to their midfield this summer and have made the Barca starlet one of their primary targets.
"Hopefully I will have a Spanish team-mate at United next season. I, and every other Manchester United player, would like him to join the club," De Gea was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.
"We have been joking about him joining United. Barcelona will realise that they have a great player, though, and I don't think they will let him go."
The Spain international has a contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2015 but the failure to participate for a stipulated amount of minutes in 2012-13 has seen his exit clause plummet from €90 million (£76.9m) to an attractive €18m (£15.4m).
However, his minimum fee release clause returns to €90m on August 1.
Thiago is a product of the Barcelona youth academy and has made over 100 official appearances for the Catalans since making his first team debut in 2008-09.

Those features about the players Moyes will inherit are hilarious on ManUtd.com. Already a dire website as it is...
Tom Cleverley: If Carrick is the master then "TC23" is the apprentice, and one who is rapidly becoming a star for both club and country. A neat and tidy player with an eye for a pass, the youth product is among the breed of diminutive ball-players currently taking the modern game by storm.
Antonio Valencia: Having swept the board at the 2011/12 end-of-season awards, the Ecuadorian was handed the iconic no.7 shirt at United, an honour reserved for a special few. His form dipped a little last term, but a vast improvement at the business end hints at a bright future under Moyes.
Ashley Young: Although injury blighted his 2012/13 season, the former Aston Villa star showed glimpses of his unquestionable talent and, of course, bagged his first title winners’ medal. His pace, trickery and crossing remains a formidable weapon that must be utilised.
PMSL. Hilarious.

Del Piero could face Reds
Alessandro Del Piero looks likely to spearhead the A-League All Stars' attack against Manchester United in Sydney next month.

The Juventus legend, now playing his football in Australia for Sydney FC, was selected in the largely fan-voted squad for the game at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 20 July.
The 15-man squad was whittled down from an initial shortlist of 35 after more than 30,000 supporters cast their votes and an expert panel, including All Stars coach Ange Postecoglou, had its say.
The squad is subject to change and will eventually contain 18 players, with some of the initial choices expected to be unavailable due to injury, international commitments and transfers.
Japanese midfielder Shinji Ono is on the provisional list, as is German Thomas Broich and veteran Australian striker Archie Thompson.
A-League All Stars: Ante Covic, Mathew Ryan; Pedj Bojic, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Trent Sainsbury, Patrick Zwaanswijk, Adama Traore; Shinji Ono, Thomas Broich, Mark Milligan, Youssouf Hersi, Michael McGlinchey, Archie Thompson; Alessandro Del Piero, Marco Rojas.
That should be great:cool::).

Giggs enjoys supporting role
Ryan Giggs says one of the most enjoyable aspects of pre-season tours is the opportunity to support the work of the Manchester United Foundation.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/6EC2E0678C08466BBD269E1E7296113C.ashx?20130226T151 2074339
The Reds have confirmed five friendly matches in Asia and Australia in July as part of Tour 2013, presented by Aon, with a sixth to follow in Sweden in August. The team will kick things off in Bangkok, before heading to Sydney, the Japanese cities of Yokohama and Osaka and then Hong Kong before the final leg in Stockholm on 6 August.
Amid the players' busy tour schedule and preparations for the new season will be a number of Foundation events and visits into communities around the world, which Giggs insists the players want to get involved in. "They are very humbling experiences," he told ManUtd.com.
"We’ve been involved with charities like UNICEF for a long time and it’s great to be able to make a difference first-hand. We have fundraising events and we try to help raise awareness from here, but when we’ve been to the likes of South Africa and Thailand we’re able to visit AIDS centres and orphanages and you can see the great work UNICEF do and the difference that the players and staff can make. It’s something that we look forward to getting involved in and we all get a lot out of the experiences."

Must do better! Kagawa admits disappointment in first United season as he vows to show his worth to Moyes
Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa has vowed to improve after admitting he was unhappy with his performance in his maiden Premier League season.
Despite picking up a league winners' medal as United secured their 20th title the Japan international was not satisfied from a personal point of view.
'It was a tough time for me with a lot going on in my head,' said Kagawa of his first season after his move from Borussia Dortmund. 'I am not happy with my performance for the team at all. I didn't score that much and I also had my (knee) injury.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/06/24/article-2347321-186519EA000005DC-117_634x451.jpg
'Despite that, it was great we won the league, I just don't feel that I achieved everything that I wanted. For me personally, it wasn't a good season.'
Kagawa arrived at Old Trafford last summer with an impressive reputation but United never really saw the sort of form he regularly displayed in Germany.
Having been brought in by Sir Alex Ferguson the 24-year-old now has to impress new manager David Moyes.
'I always think that I must play well,' he told premierleague.com. 'And I always have an image in my mind of how I want to play, wherever the position.
'Whenever there is a tough time, whenever it gets difficult for me, I just train and look ahead to the future.'
Shinji is too hard on himself. I think he had an OK first season, but can understand why he feels he needs to improve and I think he will be even better next season now his settling in period is over!:)

Rio wants even more success
Rio Ferdinand admits he will not be happy with his trophy collection until he is the most decorated player inside the Manchester United dressing room.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/3C1C5C40246D498783302AD7B7D1E389.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=39,1,751,532
Since moving to Old Trafford in 2002, the 34-year-old has become a legend of the modern game by winning six Premier League titles, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup, not to mention four FA Community Shields.
But despite all of his achievements, Ferdinand is still well short of bona fide United icon Ryan Giggs, who has 32 major honours and over 900 appearances to his name. And Rio is keen to emulate his team-mate, using him as inspiration for future successes.
“I’m not happy with what I have won, not when I can look around at people in the changing room and know they have got more than me,” Ferdinand said after supporting the Sands for Singapore charity event in Asia, where Denis Irwin was also present.
“You always aim for the people above. That is what I did the day I walked through the door. I looked around and saw people with three, four or five titles and thought ‘I want to have that’.
“You set yourself targets all the time. I am never going to sit in that changing room and think ‘I am happy with what I have done’.”
With 1 July approaching, the date David Moyes officially takes charge, Ferdinand has cast an eye towards the future and is confident the changing of guard will be a seamless transition with so many experienced players involved.
“The new manager wants to put his own imprint on the team. That is what you would expect as players. We are open-minded to that,” Rio explained.
“But, hopefully, the fact he has got people in there who know how to get the job done will give him a little bit of time. The team can be on auto-pilot with the manager just tinkering to make sure it is done the right way.
“If we need to change tactics, that is when the manager comes into his own with whatever training methods he wants to use. In terms of going out on a Saturday and getting games won, a lot of us have been doing it for years. That is why we have been here for so long and won so many trophies.”

United's three amigos
Inside United sat down with team-mates and good friends Antonio Valencia, David De Gea and Javier Hernandez to get their views on an epic season...
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/51AA88F76F0D4943874C9FA8148032B7.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,58,1000,429
Hello guys. So, let’s start with Antonio, how do you think he did this season?
DDG: I think he started the season well but then was injured – you got injured, didn’t you, (to Antonio) – and so he was out for a while. Then he started out once again trying to regain form and fitness and now he’s back to his best.
JH: It was no accident last season that he was named Player of the Year, because he is fundamental to us and has made the difference in various games. He hasn’t been in such incredible form this year but as David here mentioned, he’s unfortunately been out with that injury, which affects the form of any player and can make it pretty hard to fully recover your fitness. But we all know just what a quality player Antonio is and he’s been an important player for us again, just like everyone else has really. That’s the nicest thing about this team, everyone has a place here and an important role to play. I think that Antonio is now showing that in the four years he’s been at United he has earned and consolidated his place here as a result of hard work and a lot of effort, which is now paying dividend.
JH: David, it’s your turn!
DDG: Say the right things!
JH: In an interview recently I said that, like Luis Antonio, David had to be up there with the best players in the world right now. For me he’s the best goalkeeper in the world because we all talk about development and having to go down a certain career path and, of course, at his age many people would have been scared to give him the place he’s earned for himself. But I think that this season he’s really benefitted from being given the opportunity to play on a regular basis. He was first choice between the sticks and I think that any player in the world shows his true ability when he gets the chance to have a decent run of games in the side, and David has really shown his quality. He was voted the best keeper in the Premier League, so I’d say he’s doing very nicely thank you.
AV: He’s been perfect in everything he’s done. It’s incredible what he’s achieved. He’s shown once again just what an important keeper he is for Manchester United. He’s not far off breaking into the full Spanish national side. All his team mates here really hope that in two or three years he can be shot-stopping for Spain for the whole 90 minutes. He is proving here at United that he is one of the best goalkeepers around and I think that all of his team-mates are really happy and pleased to have David in such top form and we hope to be able to enjoy that for a long time to come.
And what about Javier?
AV: You can’t say any more about Javier! He’s been here now for three seasons and if you were to try and work out how many times he’s made the difference, it’s just incredible. What is it this year, 15 goals in 25 appearances? That’s something I think is really amazing. I’m really happy to have him as a team-mate and enjoy working with him every day.
DDG: As ‘Señor’ Antonio has already said, Chicha is very important both on and off the field for his bright and positive attitude.
You only have to look at how he goes about his work and how upbeat he always is. It inspires you to train and play hard and it’s a real pleasure to play alongside him and have him as a team-mate. In terms of goals scored per minutes on the field, I think he’s the best in the league, and that’s what it’s all about. He hasn’t had many good runs of games but whenever he has featured, he’s always scored and as a result picked up plenty of vital points for us.
JH: As Antonio was saying, it’s a real pleasure to have these two as team-mates as we can hang out together and speak to each other in our own Spanish language, which is nice and very important too. Of course, we get on well with our other team-mates too, as the three of us are doing OK with our English so we can communicate without any problem. These two lads are also important in the whole dressing room; they are real characters, you can learn a lot from them and we have a lot of fun.

"He has been first-team coach for five years and in that time has given great assistance to Sir Alex Ferguson and Mick Phelan in keeping the team at the top of the game not only in this country but in Europe as well.
"On behalf of everyone at United, I wish him well for the future."

Welcome, David Moyes
Today is the beginning of a new era for Manchester United, with David Moyes' reign as the Reds' manager now officially underway.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/92BB86C623F14A189E65AC1ADEE5FB2D.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,17,1024,397
He arrived at the newly-named Aon Training Complex – formerly the Trafford Training Centre (and often previously referred to as Carrington) – bright and early on Monday 1 July, ready to begin work as United aim to retain the Barclays Premier League title in 2013/14.
Moyes, who was appointed on 9 May, takes up his new challenge after more than 11 years in charge at Everton. There, he won the League Managers’ Association’s Manager of the Year award – voted for by his fellow football bosses – on three occasions: in 2003, 2005 and 2009. Only Sir Alex Ferguson (four awards) collected the honour as many times.
You can read a detailed profile of the new Manchester United manager on our Players & Staff page. Working alongside Moyes will be Steve Round (assistant manager), Jimmy Lumsden (coach) and Chris Woods (goalkeeper coach).
A number of changes behind the scenes also take effect today. Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward takes on the duties previously undertaken by former chief executive David Gill, while Richard Arnold begins his tenure as group managing director. Chief operating officer Michael Bolingbroke has been appointed to the main board and takes on further responsibilities, including chairman of MU Foundation.

Round, 42, joins the club after working alongside David Moyes at Everton since July 2008.
Woods, 53, who was a member of the England World Cup squads in 1986 and 1990, and for the squads for the European Championships in 1988 and 1992, has been the goalkeeping coach at Everton since 1998. In October 2011 he also became United States goalkeeping coach.
Lumsden, 65, has worked with David Moyes since his days at Preston North End and subsequently at Everton.
David Moyes said: "I have worked with Steve, Chris and Jimmy for a number of years and I am delighted they have decided to join me at this great club. They bring great qualities in their respective fields and I know that, like me, they feel that this is a challenge to relish. I have great faith that together, we can build upon the success this club has enjoyed over many years.”
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: “I believe with David and his new team in place, along with our current backroom staff, we can now start preparing for the new season ahead. This is an exciting and challenging time for the club and I have great belief that David and his team will have all the energy and attributes needed to help this club continue in its long-standing traditions."

Crerand greets new recruits
Paddy Crerand believes David Moyes is ready for the rigours of managing Manchester United and has described his fellow Scot as the “best candidate” for the job.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/9275617690DF4DBA8189B17D8F882476.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,14,990,382
The former Everton boss officially replaced Sir Alex Ferguson on Monday to begin preparations for the 2013/14 season. And Crerand, who spoke exclusively to ManUtd.com, is confident 50-year-old Moyes has all of the attributes and experience needed to handle the demands and expectations of managing United.
“David was under pressure every day at Everton with the support and expectations they have," Crerand told us. "They don’t have the same money that Manchester United have but he is ready for it. He was at Preston, Everton and now United, but there is pressure in every aspect of football regardless of the club.
“The greatest pleasure in football is winning football matches. That is the highlight and that is why David has taken the job. He has come to a much bigger club and there is nobody out there who wouldn’t want to be the manager of Manchester United. Sir Alex has left a great standard of player at the club.
“Of course, the expectancy at United is higher than anywhere else and it is a pressure job that has come from Sir Alex, whose record he has got to try and beat. I don’t think there is a better candidate. The greatest thing is that Sir Alex had a big say in it [Moyes' appointment].”
Following Moyes through the doors of the Aon Training Complex on Monday was coach Jimmy Lumsden, who is one of three new members of United’s backroom team alongside assistant manager Steve Round and goalkeeping coach Chris Woods.
Lumsden, a 65-year-old Glaswegian who worked with Moyes at Preston North End and Everton, joins the burgeoning list of Scotsmen involved with United and Crerand is delighted his friend and compatriot has joined the Reds.
“I have known Jimmy Lumsden for a long time, I know him very well and he is a smashing little fella,” Paddy explained. “He will continue the Scottish theme as well, so at least we will understand what we are talking about, we will understand each other.
“I first met Jimmy when he was with Eddie Gray, the ex-Leeds manager and I think Jim was at Leeds with him. My son Danny was at Rochdale for a while when Jimmy was there with Eddie.
“He has been with David all the way from Preston North End, so Dave has obviously got total trust in him and you can understand why he has brought him in.”

Profiles: Moyes' men
David Moyes officially took charge of Manchester United this morning (Monday 1 July), beginning one of the most anticipated managerial reigns in modern football following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/07F106B4F15E47E0A4156679DAC5EECA.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,165,3456,2740
To help achieve success, the Scot has brought with him a crack team of coaches from his former club Everton, where they all worked closely at various points of his 11-year tenure at Goodison Park. Here, we profile his three trusted allies who will fulfil separate roles at the Aon Training Complex...
Name: Steve Round
Age: 42
Role: Assistant manager
Player history: A full-back of great promise, Round’s ambitions for on-pitch success were cruelly extinguished by injury at just 25, forcing him to retire after only nine appearances for Derby County.
Coaching career: After hanging up his boots, Steve became a Rams coach under Steve McClaren, who he later worked with for both Middlesbrough and England. A first-team coach position at Newcastle followed in 2007, before replacing Alan Irvine as Everton’s assistant manager a year later.
Name: Jimmy Lumsden
Age: 65
Role: Coach
Player history: Lumsden began his career at Leeds, playing only a handful of matches, before representing Southend, Greenock Morton, St Mirren and Clydebank.
Coaching career: The Glaswegian famously discovered Moyes as a young player at Celtic and, ironically, linked up with him when the younger Scot took charge at Preston North End. Both men then moved to Everton in 2002, where their partnership blossomed in the top-flight.
Quote: “I wouldn’t say it’s friendship all the time. We’re close, but I’ve got to be truthful and say part of the reason I think [he likes working with me] is because we don’t agree a lot of the time.” – Lumsden on Moyes.
Name: Chris Woods
Age: 53
Role: Goalkeeping coach
Player history: A former Rangers star, Woods also played for Nottingham Forest, QPR, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton. He earned 42 England caps between 1985 and 1993.
Coaching career: The 53-year-old began his second off-field career in 1998 by taking up a coaching position under Walter Smith at Everton, where he was tasked with the development of their goalkeeping stable. Years later, in October 2011, he was employed by the USA national team, linking with Toffees stopper and former Red Tim Howard.
Quote: “He's been fantastic for my career. He's one of the best in the world and I don't say that lightly. He's fantastic with a tremendous reputation.” – Tim Howard on Woods.

Cleverley hails spirit
Tom Cleverley has hailed United's team spirit ahead of the flight to Thailand to kick off the 2013 Tour promoted by Aon.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/9357784650F949BF9236713AA8E6AE8C.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,2,533,797
The midfielder missed England's recent internationals against Republic of Ireland and Brazil due to injury but is expected to be fit to make the plane for the start of the pre-season campaign.
When asked by ManUtd.com whether the trip will be a good bonding exercise, he replied: "Yeah, it's brilliant. We have a great team spirit in the squad and I’d be surprised if there is a club with a better team spirit than ours. Everyone gets on and I think the tours can only help that."
Cleverley has promoted his claims during previous summers and is aware that all the players will be out to impress new manager David Moyes.
"I’ve managed to score a few goals on tour," he stated. "It shows the manager what you can do and the fans also get to know your name. Most of all, being away with the squad helps you become comfortable around the first-team lads. For a few weeks, you change from being a reserve-team player to a first-teamer and you feel more comfortable. As a young player it can really help your development."
The Reds face six matches in all in Asia, Australia and Sweden with all the fixtures promising to be challenging.
"I don’t think any game is seen as not being important at this club," Cleverley maintained. "There’s competition for places and, not only that, the rest of the players and the staff set such high standards that you constantly have to try and meet. Every game is taken really seriously and you’re always trying to impress so you give it your all."
I agree with Tom:).

Moyes has earned United job
Former United and Scotland striker Joe Jordan believes David Moyes will prove to be a "great appointment" as manager.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/92BB86C623F14A189E65AC1ADEE5FB2D.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,17,1024,397
Moyes arrived at the Aon Training Complex on Monday to begin his tenure - replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm.
Jordan, who led the line with distinction during his playing days and scored 41 times in 126 appearances for the Reds, is first-team coach at QPR and has a great deal of respect for his fellow countryman's work at Everton over the past decade.
"You can have a bit of banter about him being a Scot as United, in the past, have been associated with great Scottish managers," he explained. "But I think he’s earned his passage to manage United.
"I think it’s a great appointment. Not just because he’s Scottish. I think he will give every hour there is in the day to continue to do what’s right, what he thinks is right, to keep Manchester United where they have been and hopefully continue that success."

The game has been added to the Reds' schedule in a first-ever trip for the club to the Lamex Stadium in Broadhall Way.
The fixture against the League One outfit, a 7.45pm kick-off, will allow several players an opportunity to impress while the first team is away on the summer tour presented by Aon.
Warren Joyce is to take charge of the team and tickets are priced £15 for adults, £10 for over 60s, under 21s and students, and £5 for under 16s and all Stevenage season ticket holders. Entrance is free for under sevens.

Rafael ready for work
Early July is not always the players' favourite time of year, with the need to regain full fitness being the order of the day before the squad starts playing matches again on tour. But United right-back Rafael insists he actually relishes this period...
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/DC1E6EE0AAA7419ABC1DC245504E47BE.ashx?20130702T104 3187660&mw=500
"Pre-season is always good, it’s enjoyable. I like this stage of the year a lot. Of course, there is a lot of running! But it’s good as well because when you come back from holiday, sometimes you can get tired from doing nothing. I feel good when I’m working.
"The pre-season tours are a big part of preparation work for the new season. If you play well, you can put a thought in the manager’s mind and maybe change his mind if you perhaps weren’t in his plans for the first few games.
"Not only are we able to put in some hard work on the training pitch when we're on tour, it's good to see different cultures and different things. It's great that we're able to visit countries across the world because we have so many fans. We are a big club and we have supporters everywhere and it’s good for us to go on tour and see them. They give us so much support and it's great that we're able to meet some of them, especially those who aren't able to get to Old Trafford.
"The tour is a great experience for the young players and the older players like Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand are always really encouraging when we're away and help us a lot. I'm sure this year's tour will be another great trip and it's one we're all looking forward to."

The Norwegian youngster is returning to his homeland to play for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after performing for the Academy following his switch from Lyn Oslo.
The creative midfielder scored on his only appearance for the Reserves last term and was a regular for Paul McGuinness' Under-18 team until the very end of the campaign.
Molde boss Solskjaer confirmed: "He's here to develop. There's no pressure on him to come in here and turn our season around. We'll take this step-by-step."

Ryan, 39, Britain’s most decorated footballer, has been taking his coaching badges and is due to attain the UEFA Pro Licence next summer. He signed a one-year extension to his playing contract in March and will combine his new duties with being a member of the first-team squad.
Announcing the appointment, manager David Moyes said:
"I'm delighted that Ryan has accepted the chance to become player/coach. His success and ability to adapt his game over a number of years gives him an unrivalled perspective on the modern game. His career is an example to any aspiring young player and I’m sure that both he and the players will benefit from his new role."
Ryan Giggs said:
"It's a great privilege to be appointed a player/coach. I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long. It's no secret that I have been taking my qualifications and I see this as the first step in my future career. I'm really looking forward to working alongside David and the team."

Philip, 36, retired from playing football after leaving Everton at the end of last season. He played for Manchester United from 1995 to 2005 and is currently taking his coaching badges.
Announcing the appointment, manager David Moyes said:
"I have known and worked with Philip for eight years and, in that time, I have come to know his dedication, ability to lead and appetite for hard work. In addition, of course, he understands the club very well and I think his addition to the coaching staff will be a valuable one."
Philip Neville said:
"When I retired from football, I knew that I wanted to continue in the game; it’s something that I have been preparing for over the last few years. So when David called to give me this opportunity, I couldn’t resist. I gave my all when I played for Everton but it is no secret that this club is in my heart. I’ve really enjoyed working with David and his staff as a player and I think that, together with Ryan, we can make a real contribution to Manchester United."

Boss deflects Ronaldo talk
David Moyes was predictably quizzed about potential transfer targets during his first press conference as Manchester United manager on Friday.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/91D3372DCE984F28BED0DE5620EF0049.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,37,800,632
Top of the agenda for the large group of assembled journalists was Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been consistently linked with a return to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.
Moyes refused to be drawn on the Portuguese star but says the Reds will "do everything we can to add to the squad".
"I would never speak about players at other clubs," the former Everton boss said. "That's not my style. When people have contracts at other clubs it's wrong to speak about them. But this club is always interested in the best players.
"United had a great season in the Premier League last year and we'll do everything we can to add to the squad. This club will always go after the best players and we'll do what we can to remain at the top.”
When asked if he would bring in new players before the start of the pre-season tour next week, Moyes added: "I'll try but I couldn't honestly say yes. Time is closing in on me now.
"The way the window works, I think the deals may be done a little later this season. There are a few new managers so I don't think everything will be done right away."
At various points in the press conference, Moyes emphasised his strong desire to continue the traditions of the club – not least bringing through young talent.
"Everton didn't shop where Manchester United shop in the transfer window," he added. "But this club will always try to buy the best young players and also bring through players from the Academy.
"That's in the DNA and we're looking to bring through our own players."

Moyes: How I got the job
David Moyes spoke about becoming the new Manchester United manager for the first time on Friday, and the former Everton boss revealed the extraordinary circumstances in which he inherited the job from his recently retired predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C3E7A600CB384206BE5CD7A73A5433BD.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,92,3000,1206
Speaking in front of the world’s media during his first-ever press conference with the Reds, the 50-year-old also outlined a desire to replicate the success that has been enjoyed at Old Trafford throughout history, whilst expressing his plan to maintain the traditions that embody the club.
“I'm incredibly privileged I was given the opportunity and grateful to Sir Alex and the board for making it happen,” David said. “It was a really strange situation for me. I had no idea whatsoever. I knew nothing at all about it until Sir Alex gave me a call and asked me to come to his house.
“I was expecting him to say 'I'm going to take one of your players’ but the first thing he told me was that he was retiring. I said, ‘Yeah, when?’ He was never going to retire. He said ‘Next week’ and his next words were ‘And you're the next Manchester United manager’. I was shocked but also incredibly thrilled that I was given the opportunity to manage Manchester United.”
“I have to say, whoever was going to take on this job knows the job at hand. The manager before was incredible, somebody everybody in football looks up to. There's probably no better. He comes from a great list of Scottish managers; Stein, Shankly... And Sir Alex is certainly up there.
All I can do is do what David Moyes has done before. I'll definitely continue the traditions of Manchester United but I also need to put my own stamp on the club. Sir Alex did the same. I'm very fortunate that I'm taking over the champions of England. Not many managers have that same starting point. I have to say, Sir Alex and the board have been brilliant with me.”
Of course, Moyes has inherited a team of champions following last season’s heroics in the Barclays Premier League and although the Scot is determined to retain that crown this campaign.
“My job is to continue the success at this club,” David told reporters. “This club is about wining trophies. I'm hungry to do it, I'm driven to succeed. It won't change me, though. I'm determined to get the first one [trophy] on the board.
“I'm inexperienced in a lot of areas and there are some brilliant managers who could have taken this role. But the biggest confidence I take into it is Sir Alex Ferguson telling me that I was the next Manchester United manager.
“United had a great season in the PL last year and we'll do everything we can to add to the squad. This club will always go after the best players and we'll do what we can to remain at the top.”

I think Moyes contradicted himself about how he got the job in the conference. Could be wrong though.
Anywho, I'm sort of, well, coming around to the idea of Moyes as manager. :suspect:
It's taken me about seven weeks :joker:, but I've calmed.
I am quite excited about a new era. Moyes just really has to fix the midfield.

Kagawa excited for Reds return
Shinji Kagawa places great expectations on his individual performances, so even after a debut campaign at Manchester United in which he provided solid evidence that he can make a big impact at Old Trafford, he still expects more.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/EC5FC70CEEC24071AFCD407D01A6ED1A.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=296,22,846,850
Kagawa left behind a settled, tight-knit environment at former club Borussia Dortmund, despite their success on Jurgen Klopp, and joined United with the aim of challenging himself within a bigger set-up. It’s certainly been a challenge, he feels.
“It was great to win the title with United and to make it three in a row for me personally,” he tells the latest issue of Inside United. “But I feel I still have work to do. I would say I am half satisfied and half unsatisfied.
“I want to be a better player year by year. I expect a lot of myself. I hope to show my dynamism, style and presence more.”
Reds boss David Moyes confirmed that Kagawa will join up with his United team-mates on the Japan leg of the forthcoming Tour 2013 presented by Aon. And the Kobe-born attacker is already focused on what needs to be done to have a successful second campaign in England: “Hard work!”
He continues: “I think it is very important to keep working in your everyday training and in matches. You just have to keep practising. But you must also have a strong will. That is the key to playing in a foreign country, especially for me in Europe.
"It’s important to think positively and keep trying hard, imagining you are successful, even when things are tough.
“You have to believe in yourself. If you don’t, things can go wrong both on and off the pitch. And you can’t enjoy it. Being positive and believing in yourself is important, not only in football but also in improving as a person.”

Scholes passes on new role
David Moyes has revealed that Paul Scholes has temporarily turned down the chance to join the coaching staff at Manchester United in order to spend time with his family.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/7C2308808E5A4402A4A23FAE938BD75C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,19,600,465
The boss was hoping to add the Reds legend to his burgeoning backroom team after recruiting Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville, who were added to the team last week following the recent appointments of Steve Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Woods.
However, speaking during his first-ever press conference as United manager, Moyes did hint of a future role for Scholes, who is keen to help out at the Aon Training Complex following a short break from football.
“I wanted to make sure I had connections to what happened here,” David explained, when quizzed on the appointment of Giggs and Neville. “I spoke to Paul Scholes as well. He wants to have some time off with his family.
“I also spoke with Rene [Meulensteen] but he wanted to move on. So then the obvious choice was Ryan. He's an incredible footballer. To get him and Phil Neville together...I wanted to make sure I had some young members of staff behind me as well.”
Expanding on his exchange with Scholes, he added: “Paul was fantastic with me and wanted to help a lot. I probably spent an hour or two on the phone with him. He wants to spend time with his family at the moment. We'll bring him in when he's ready.”

Robson: Balance must be right
United legend Bryan Robson thinks there has been something of an obsession with the club signing a dominant midfield player in recent years.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/6436C14BBD9746E0849DB6999EBD931D.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,44,800,341
The former England and Reds captain was an all-action inspiration in the middle of the park during his playing days and the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Ince and Paul Scholes have also been hugely influential figures in the position.
The Reds have been linked with a number of central midfielders following the appointment of David Moyes as manager after Sir Alex Ferguson's final few seasons in charge featured regular debate around incoming transfers in this area.
However, Robson believes the balance of the team may be more important than focusing on any one individual to pull the strings.
"I know with the Manchester United fans, they are used to having a really dominant central midfield player," he told ManUtd.com at the launch of the partnership with Aeroflot. "Like Keaney, Incey, myself and then Scholesy.
"But I think what the fans have got to look at is: Is the balance of the squad pretty good anyway without having that type of player in? You've got to say 'yes' as we won the title by 11 points.
"Now, of course you always want to improve but you've got to look at the balance of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick, Ando [Anderson] and the rest. They are still very, very good players but you've got to look at the balance and is that right, rather than go out and try to get an individual who you must rely on all the time.
"So my message to Manchester United fans is don't be too influenced by this talk that we need this midfield player because I think the boys can cope."
Robson helped announce the new deal with Aeroflot at Old Trafford alongside Andy Cole with the first-team squad and manager Moyes also in attendance.
"I think you've got to ask David Moyes what he thinks about where the squad maybe needs tweaking," he added during a press conference. "One thing he's done great, so far, for United fans is no-one has gone out of the door.
"If you look at the squad we've got at this moment in time, it's a healthy squad with a great chance of retaining the championship next year."

Alex's abrasive stance
Alex Büttner admits his aggressive approach to the game stood him in good stead during his first season in the Barclays Premier League.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/81BD2B7912CC449BA441108861A17B7C.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=24,1,557,802
The Dutch left-back admires United skipper Nemanja Vidic's no-nonsense style on the pitch and believes it helped him pick up his first-ever champions' medal.
"I always want to play aggressively," he reveals in an exclusive interview with the new issue of Inside United. "I try to - how do you say? - play strong. I like to play hard. It’s my game.
"I think you can see when you look at 'Vida' that he’s the same. He is a monster on the field. I like that. If I see that, I can learn from him. It’s nice to play with these kinds of defenders here."
In terms of aims for next season, it is clear that Büttner realises he needs to work hard in training to impress new boss David Moyes.
When asked for his ambitions for 2013/14, he replied: "To train hard again every day and I want to be better every day. Of course, I want to play more games. I'll go for that. My first season was good, like I have said, but I hope my second season will go better.
"Of course, I have my first champions’ medal. In my life, I have never been a champion before. It felt good to get the medallion as a Premier League champion for the first time."
Büttner also hopes that an international call-up for the Netherlands may not be too far away as he continues to prove his worth at Old Trafford.
"Yes, I hope it’s close," he stated. "I have to be patient. When I play here, I can play there. I have patience when I say that I'm for the future. Of course they are following me now and hopefully that will be okay."

Zaha urged to take his chance
Former United striker Andy Cole believes Wilfried Zaha's integration at the club will be aided by the fact that everybody is starting on a clean slate under David Moyes.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/CF8EE5441CF844A5B440B85A4EABBC2A.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,67,549,271
Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson's last-ever signing in January but spent the remainder of the campaign at Crystal Palace.
After helping the Eagles reach the top-flight and representing England at the Under-21 European Championship, the winger joined up with his new team-mates this week.
"It's down to the new manager," explained Cole when asked about the recent recruit at the press conference announcing Aeroflot's new partnership with United.
"Obviously, Sir Alex bought him last season and it's up to Zaha to come here and put in a shift in pre-season, give it a good go and David Moyes will make his mind up from there.
"I think it's a good thing that everyone is starting from a clean slate, so to speak, as the new manager is coming in with new ideas and he'll pick the team as he feels fit for going to win the championship week in and week out.
"I think it's a great opportunity for Wilfried and that's why he's come to Manchester United in the first place - to have that opportunity - and no doubt he'll enjoy it."
Welcome to Manchester United, Wilfried Zaha:).

Lessons learned for Fabio
QPR first-team coach Joe Jordan expects Fabio to have learned from his experience on loan at the club last season.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/637BE202DC0C4D5F9188089489EEC4CD.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,76,600,522
The Brazilian full-back spent the entire campaign at Loftus Road but was unable to prevent Harry Redknapp's side from sliding out of the Barclays Premier League.
After playing 23 times for the West Londoners, and scoring in his only FA Cup appearance against MK Dons, the South American must aim to take the positives from a year away from Old Trafford as he returns to stake his claim for a place in David Moyes' squad.
"I think we all learned from last season as it was a very, very difficult campaign," explained Jordan to ManUtd.com. "Whether it was someone in the latter part of his career or someone like Fabio just starting out.
"He will have learned a lot from last year. Hopefully, he can use it to better himself for the future that he has in the game.
"You see different aspects of life in football and you have got to store that away and use it because it was a hard season last year for everybody. It wasn't easy and it's not always you learn from campaigns where you're successful but when things haven't gone well and there's been disappointment.
"Sometimes, you learn from that and why it was like that. You have got to use that and make sure you gain something from all those difficult times and benefit from that experience."
I agree that Fabio will have learnt something from the loan and gained more experience, he can push on now for next season at United in this new era under David Moyes!

Zaha in dreamland
Wilfried Zaha admits it was a dream come true to walk into the Aon Training Complex as a Manchester United player and mix with his heroes Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/2EC438B7EF73416C81473D69EA978C30.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=14,0,600,877
The England international linked up with the English league champions for the first time earlier this month, having initially signed for the club in January. In the intervening period, he was loaned back to Crystal Palace - a move that paid dividends as the Eagles secured promotion to the top flight as Zaha claimed the PFA's Championship Player of the Year prize.
When quizzed on his first day of training with United during an exclusive interview with MUTV, the 20-year-old was refreshingly honest. “It was a bit nerve-wracking at first, coming in and seeing all these players that I’ve watched over the years," Zaha admitted. "But everyone seems all right so I’m settling in okay.
“I’m speechless really, I just never thought I’d have the chance to play with the likes of Rooney and to actually be sitting next to Giggs in the changing room. It’s just a dream really.”
Now that he has met his fellow Reds, Zaha is keen to join them on the pitch during Tour 2013 presented by Aon and manager David Moyes has already expressed a desire to work closely with the new recruit.
“He’ll travel with us on the tour now,” Moyes told TalkSport on Wednesday. “I’ll get a chance to have a look at him. He got a bit of extra time off after being away with England’s Under-21s, but I’ll take him away and have a look at him and see how he goes.
“This football club has a great record of producing young players and bringing young players into the team. Hopefully Wilfried can be one of those who we push forward.”

Reds jet out to Bangkok
David Moyes has named 19 players in his Manchester United squad which jets off to Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday as part of the Tour 2013 presented by Aon.
The United boss has selected a blend of experience and youth for the visits to Thailand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong, while three other first-team stars - Robin van Persie, David De Gea and Shinji Kagawa - will join up with the rest of the squad later this month.
The full tour squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Anders Lindegaard, Ben Amos
Defenders: Rafael, Phil Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Alex Büttner, Fabio, Michael Keane
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Ryan Giggs, Wilfried Zaha, Jesse Lingard, Adnan Januzaj
Strikers: Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck
Robin van Persie and David De Gea will join the squad in Sydney, while Moyes confirmed last week that Shinji Kagawa will fly out for the Japan leg of the trip. Javier Hernandez will miss the trip as he completes his holiday after only recently completing international duties for Mexico.
During the first leg of the tour, the Reds play matches in Bangkok, Sydney, Yokohama, Osaka and Hong Kong, and a final tour match against AIK in Stockholm is scheduled for 6 August.
Not long to go till the tour now:). Good side bar a few players missing due to rest or injuries and it is nice to see a few young lads being given the chance to travel with the first team lot and to be given a chance to show what they are made of!
