For some, Cleverley is the answer. I've seen on a United forum some believe Cleverley was excellent last night. Pulling up stats compared to Ramires, Lampard and Oscar. He had a better pass success rate than all three.
The issue with that is we could all have his pass success rate, what with it mainly being short sideways and backwards passes.

hes highly rated by some and looks a prospect. But Im unconvinced he has sufficient penetrative skills to help man utd dominate Europe. they need an attacking midfielder who can find the killer passes, can hold onto the ball and beat a man, it amazes me how few players dribble these days? take a look at messi again, its his dribbling ability and willing to have a go that is one main reason that seperates him from the rest, as the best player in the world

I think moyes mentality isnt going to help us. We're at home? We're the champions? Lets push for the bloody win? Instead he brings on giggs for welbeck and leaves kagawa on the bench. If we sell nani or rooney then what is up with this football club. I mean sometimes you can have alot of wingers who do a good job but if they don't do what their suppose to do as winger then why the fk are they wingers. Valencia was good defensively but hes job is to create chances and he was bloody crap. We might aswell make him our first choice right back.

Giggs is arguably our most cutting player in the squad and we needed to break down a brick wall somehow. He's done it time and time again. Kagawa is clearly not fit enough or ready so Giggs was best option.

Fans welcome Moyes
Fans at tonight's match against Chelsea will notice a new banner on the Stretford End welcoming David Moyes.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/9B69B1A0E2B64D3290FB7231FA100A75.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,114,800,411
The United boss takes charge of his first league game at Old Trafford and as he emerges from the tunnel he'll see the new 'The Chosen One' banner in his honour on the Stretford End. The Old Trafford faithful have been heavily involved in the design and funding to produce it via Stretford End Flags.
At the opposite end of the stadium supporters will notice the 'Sir Alex Ferguson Impossible Dream' banner has temporarily had to be taken down. This is due to it clashing with this season's new matchday camera positions. It is currently being resized and will be back in place for the Crystal Palace match next month.

Wayne voted star man
Wayne Rooney scooped Manchester United’s man-of-the-match award after an eye-catching display in the goalless draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/D49A2343675144C7B735EE99248DADE4.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=311,0,4800,3354
Playing in the hole behind Robin van Persie, Rooney dictated United’s attacking play in his first start of the season as the home support bellowed his name throughout.
The 27-year-old picked up a resounding 89 per cent of the thousands of votes from fans on ManUtd.com and Twitter, with skipper Nemanja Vidic second after his dominant display at the back.
Patrice Evra shone at left-back as United’s defenders limited Chelsea largely to long-range efforts and the Frenchman was the third candidate on the shortlist selected by Reds legends and MUTV pundits Lou Macari and Gordon McQueen.
Van Persie was the man of the match at Swansea last week and fans can contribute again in the next fixture away at Liverpool on Sunday.
Well done Wayne:), quality performance by him.

Tom: I've seen them given
Tom Cleverley was disappointed not to win a penalty during Monday’s goalless draw with Chelsea, though the Manchester United midfielder understands why the spot kick wasn’t given.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/605AD2A8D69E4D30AEB0FFEE549897FA.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,554,312
With just over an hour on the clock, Cleverley appeared to strike the ball onto the hand of Frank Lampard from close-range, prompting mass appeals for a penalty inside Old Trafford. However, referee Martin Atkinson was having none of it and immediately waved play on.
When quizzed on the incident, the Reds starlet was impressively diplomatic in his response. “It was obviously in the heat of the moment, but I think it is one of them; you are disappointed that you didn’t get it but if it was given against you, you would be just as disappointed. I thought his hands were up and it could have been given - you’ve seen them given. But you get some and others you don’t.”
On the whole, the match was one of few chances as both teams produced a couple of fine defensive displays, adding credibility to the suggestion that this season’s title race will be one of the closest in years. And although victory was out of reach, Cleverley wasn’t too down.
“We’re disappointed not to get the three points but I had a feeling it would be that type of the game, with it being so early in the season and two teams fighting for the title,” he told MUTV. “It was a very tactical game. We are not too disappointed though, we haven’t lost any ground but we always like to take the initiative by winning these games at home.
“It seems to be the case now, teams playing with a lot of midfielders against us but it is our job to break them down and stop them playing through us. Chelsea always seem to play that way with the type of players they have got and it is never easy, but I thought we did well to limit their chances.”
Cleverley was also full of praise for Wayne Rooney, who started his first match of the season and produced a display of great encouragement, earning widespread applause from the United fans.
“Yeah he was brilliant,” Tom explained. “He was definitely one of our good players tonight. He gave us energy, tenacity and a bit of quality as well. I am happy for Wazza.”

Boss praises Rooney
Manchester United manager David Moyes praised Wayne Rooney's work-rate and demeanour after fielding the forward for ninety minutes against Chelsea on Monday night.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/9CF06C38511443C88802CEBB258BAE23.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,75,1530,934
The Reds striker - the subject of a summer bid from the visiting side - was named in the starting line-up under Moyes' management for the first time since the pair were together at Everton, and Rooney responded to the recall with a busy, energetic performance.
"I was very pleased with Wayne's performance and very pleased by the reaction from the crowd," said Moyes. "That wasn't unexpected - I expected it.
"I told him I might only play him for 60 or 70 minutes and see how he was. But he worked back, he tackled and he was great. He closed two or three people down in the corner and the crowd realised the work he did.
"He was desperate to score and nearly scored with an overhead kick in injury time."
The manager added that he feels Rooney, the player he mentored at Goodison Park, is currently in prime condition for United, both mentally and physically.
"He's been great in training and anyone who has looked at him has seen a slightly leaner Wayne. I think Wayne has a positive mind at the moment. I don't think that needs to change. I think his attitude showed a lot tonight."

Young eyes form of old
Ashley Young is targeting an injury-free season as he looks to recapture the impressive form of his first campaign with the Reds.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/143ADE87CF6D4A2480CCFD7B0A1FC59B.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=306,0,1251,532
Young made a bright start to life at Old Trafford following his move from Aston Villa in 2011, but his second season in Manchester was blighted by injuries.
The 28-year-old had been out of competitive action since the Manchester derby in April. But now, having made his return to the first-team as a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea, he hopes to play an important role in his third year in red.
“I feel ready,” he told MUTV. “I didn’t have a full pre-season but I have been trying to get myself fit all summer and when I’m fully fit, when called upon, I will go out there and give 110 per cent.
“I had a stop-start season last year with the injuries I had, which was frustrating. But I was glad to get back out on the pitch and to get some minutes. I felt good out there [against Chelsea] and, fingers crossed, now I won’t have the same injury problems this season.”
Young had to contend with frustration of a different kind as the United chased victory against Chelsea. The Reds were the more positive team, but the final shot, cross or killer pass just eluded David Moyes’ men.
“There’s a little bit of disappointment there,” he said reviewing the game. “We wanted to get the three points, especially being at home. But it’s a good point against one of the league’s top sides. I don’t think they threatened us too much. The defence was brilliant and as a team our shape was fantastic. And if anything we had the best opportunities."
Young came off the bench midway through the second half as Moyes sought to unlock the Chelsea defence. United could find the elusive winning goal but United's no.18 is taking the positives out of the performance, especially with a tough away trip to Anfield looming at the weekend.
“We’ve been famed for a few late goals and we were on the front foot, looking like the team that was going to score,” he added. “We had a few chances from some crosses that went into the box. But for us it’s a good point and now we’re just looking forward to the next game.
“When we looked at our fixtures we knew that it was going to be a testing start. We wanted to get points on the board straightaway. We’ve managed to do that and now we’re looking forward to Sunday’s game against Liverpool.”

Jones seeks cutting edge
Phil Jones was generally satisfied with Manchester United’s display in the goalless draw against Chelsea but says the champions will be looking for more in the final third at Liverpool on Sunday.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/80DD07CB86124DD392F50B4A52499D5E.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,18,600,355
United were the better team in Monday night’s eagerly-anticipated encounter with Jose Mourinho’s Blues, who rarely troubled David De Gea in the home goal.
But unlike the previous week at Swansea, the Reds did not create an abundance of chances either and Jones says that’s one area to work on in the build-up to the second big clash of the week at Anfield.
The defender told ManUtd.com and PA Sport: "We wanted to win but it wasn’t to be. We played alright but we were lacking the cutting edge in the final third.
"But we’ve got the clean sheet and I thought we looked solid defensively as a unit – not just the back four but collectively it was sound and solid.
"It was probably just in the final third where we didn’t find enough. Wazza [Wayne Rooney] had a few long-range efforts and we could have had a penalty shout in the final 10 minutes for handball."
Jones, who "soldiered on" with a stiff back for 30 minutes after an aerial challenge with Ashley Cole in the first half, says the players are working well with David Moyes.
"Everything the manager says, and has had an input in, we’re taking on board," he said. "We’re responding well and enjoying it."
Liverpool have won their first two Barclays Premier League games 1-0, with Daniel Sturridge scoring both goals, and will provide a stern test as always for Moyes’ men.
"It’s going to be a big game for the players and manager but we’ll have to go there and be at our best," Jones added. "Sturridge is a cracking player and one who we’ll work on and watch out for.
"It’s never easy going to Anfield; they put you under a lot of pressure. But I’m sure if we find that cutting edge we can get three points."

100% agreed. he is the master, a total genius still even at age 101.
Rooney was superb in most assets of his game too. The weakness is the winger to replace giggs, also Valencia final ball is often poor, but the biggest of all is the lack of a creative central midfielder who can dribble past a man and deliver killer passes

Vidic: Roll on Sunday
Momentum is a powerful force and Nemanja Vidic feels confident United are heading in the right direction ahead of Sunday’s seismic encounter with historic rivals Liverpool.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/84B70A4D396749C79BD88FCC48F9C9AD.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,30,568,349
The champions were impressive winners at Swansea City on the opening day of the season before drawing with Chelsea on Monday, in a match that was keenly contested but ultimately lacked clear-cut chances as a result of two outstanding defensive displays and some rustiness in the final third.
Although a home draw is not viewed as a success at the Theatre of Dreams, Vidic observed several positives in United’s performance to suggest their form will improve for some even bigger games to come – starting with this weekend’s trip to Anfield.
"We had more possession around their box than they had ours," he reasoned. "The final pass was not great but I think we also might have scored. It was a tactical game which is why you could argue it was not great to watch. But we have some positives to take. I believe we are pleased with our form.
“I don't look at it that Chelsea have more to take from the game. We played a good game and didn't allow them chances. We had a few situations where we could have scored. It was a positive game for us. We played really solid and I believe we are going to be even better in the future games."
Referring to Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, Vida said: "It is always tough to go to Anfield. It is going to be no
confidence. But we go there pleased with our form, too. We have six days until that game. We will be ready."
One player who is hoping to feature against Liverpool is Wayne Rooney, who made his first start of the season against Chelsea. And the Reds legend produced a performance of great industry and passion, earning widespread acclaim on the terraces at Old Trafford.
Such a reception was, of course, noteworthy following a summer of speculation linking the striker with a move away from M16. However, Vidic insists he wasn’t surprised by the behaviour of United’s fans, who have always supported every player who wears the famous red shirt.
The Serbian added: "The fans have always supported the players. Wayne is no different. Wayne has been supported throughout the years. I don't think there was a question he would have been supported. He has scored so many goals and won so many trophies. I expected him to receive a good reception."

Welbeck can't wait for Liverpool
After playing in Manchester United’s draw with title rivals Chelsea on Monday, Danny Welbeck is looking forward to another "intense" Barclays Premier League clash against Liverpool.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/E685CBA866194412B63B8217EED7A75F.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,33,800,482
Sunday’s game at Anfield is set to feature two in-form strikers in Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge, who both have two league goals to their name already, with the latter firing Liverpool to consecutive 1-0 wins (as well as hitting two goals in their 4-2 Capital One Cup win over Notts County on Tuesday).
And Welbeck revealed that he has already spoken to his friend and England team-mate about their respective bright starts to the season.
"I was with Sturridge at a Nike event and we were speaking about our goals, so I’m looking forward to playing against him at Anfield," Welbeck told ManUtd.com.
"I can’t wait for the game. Ever since I’ve been at the club, coming through the under-9s to 15s, 16s, youth team and reserves; no matter what the situation is, it’s massive.
"Obviously we’ll want to go there and win but it’s going to be another intense game and I think the whole club is really looking forward to it."
Welbeck played on the left of a four-pronged forward line against Chelsea and admitted he was frustrated not to be able to break down Jose Mourinho’s side.
"There was a bit of disappointment because we were at Old Trafford and we really want to be winning our home games," he said.
"But in this league every point is hard to get. Their aim was to keep the goals out and they did that. It was a really tough match and both sides did well.
"It was just a shame that it came two games in – you’d rather it was played further into the season, when it would have been a bigger occasion."

Cleverley eyes Anfield
Tom Cleverley is determined to build on United’s encouraging start to the season by claiming three points from Sunday’s crunch meeting with Liverpool.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/BBEB371E454E4BA39172E10D0349E7FF.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,55,480,325
The Reds recorded an impressive 4-1 win at Swansea City on the opening weekend before drawing with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday. And with United's tough fixture schedule continuing with big games against Liverpool and Manchester City, Cleverley is keen to maintain momentum at Anfield.
“It is not a bad start, everyone knows that we haven’t got the easiest first five games but the focus is now on Sunday,” he told MUTV. “Our biggest game is always the next one and we will be looking to go to Anfield and get three points."
When quizzed on United’s tough opening, Tom expanded: “They are all big games; these are the types of games that you want to be playing. This is the Premier League and it is never easy.”
Last week, Cleverley took part in United’s first Google+ hangout, answering questions posed by fans around the world. But one query proved just too hard to answer: which game gets your blood boiling most, Liverpool or Manchester City away?
"The Liverpool game, with the history between the two clubs and what it means to the fans, makes it really important. Even playing in the Academy, the Liverpool game was always the one you looked out for. I've not played for United at Anfield yet so that's something I'd like to experience. It’s too hard to answer, it’s a good question.”

United await European draw
David Moyes will discover who his Manchester United team will face in this season’s UEFA Champions League when the group stage draw is made in Monaco on Thursday at 16:45 BST.

22 automatic entrants will be joined by 10 play-off winners at the Grimaldi Forum, where the 32 sides will be split into four seeding pots, with one from each drawn randomly into eight possible groups.
United are in Seeding Pot 1, which means the Reds cannot be pitted against Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, Porto or Benfica in the group stage. And as a team cannot be paired against another from the same country, local rivals Manchester City will also be avoided.
Once the draw is completed, a computer will then determine the final position of the clubs within their group and the order of the home and away matches. At present, these are the provisional dates...
Matchday 1: 17/18 September. Matchday 2: 1/2 October. Matchday 3: 22/23 October. Matchday 4: 5/6 November. Matchday 5: 26/27 November. Matchday 6: 10/11 December.

Manchester United's quest to win the 2013/14 Capital One Cup will begin with a home tie against Liverpool.

David Moyes' men were the first team to be pulled out when the Round 3 draw was made on Wednesday evening - the resulting eight ties will be played in the week beginning 23 September.
United have faced Liverpool on four previous occasions in various guises of the League Cup - losing the finals at Wembley in 1983 and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2003 plus a tie at Anfield in November 1985 but winning the only meeting at Old Trafford to date in 1990.
The Reds beat Newcastle United in the equivalent round last season, before bowing out after extra-time in a nine-goal thriller away to Chelsea. The club last won the competition in 2010, adding to triumphs in 1992, 2006 and 2009.
United's next fixture is, of course, away to Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League this Sunday.

The Chile international scored on his senior Reds debut in the pre-season draw at AIK Fotboll and also netted in the Under-21s' victory at West Brom last week.
After ending last term on loan at Wigan Athletic, the 19-year-old is to head away from Old Trafford on a temporary basis again until 30 June, 2014.
Henriquez has been paraded in the Zaragoza kit at the Romareda Stadium ahead of linking up with his new team-mates and will look to make his mark in the Segunda Liga with Zaragoza facing an away game at Barcelona B at the weekend.

Boss: Rooney's raring to go
David Moyes believes Wayne Rooney is physically and mentally prepared to help Manchester United challenge for top honours this season.

The Reds striker made his first start of the campaign against Chelsea on Monday, earning rave reviews from fans at Old Trafford following a performance of great industry and verve. That outing was preceded by a similarly eye-catching cameo against Swansea City the previous weekend.
And when speaking to the media on Friday, Moyes didn’t hold back in his praise. “Wayne Rooney has been a great player for many years for Manchester United. He was an up and coming great player as a young boy at Everton and his career has gone the way that people expected it to go.
“I felt he played very well the other night and he's looking in good condition and is mentally in good shape too. We'll do everything we possibly can to keep that going and need him to keep performing well. At the moment, he's in good shape.”
During Friday’s press conference at the Aon Training Complex, Moyes was once again asked about Rooney’s future and, predictably, the boss reiterated the club’s stance that he is not for sale: “We told you and everybody else from day one, so I don't think there's anything else to add today.”

RvP named August star man
Robin van Persie has been named Manchester United Player of the Month for August by fans voting on the club's official websites and global social media.

"It's always nice to win awards, especially when it's voted for by the fans who watch us every week, whether we're playing at Old Trafford or anywhere in the country," Robin told ManUtd.com. "So, I'd like to thank all the supporters who voted for me.
"I'm pleased to have scored four goals but it's more important to me that the team has made a good start to the season, and there is more to come."
The Dutchman scored twice in the Community Shield triumph against Wigan Athletic at Wembley and he bagged another impressive double at Swansea in the Barclays Premier League, before leading the line in the top-of-the-table stalemate against Chelsea.
Our Player of the Month shortlist featured three players who stood out in August and van Persie polled a commanding 57 per cent of votes. He beat second-placed Nemanja Vidic (26 per cent), while Danny Welbeck finished in third spot with a commendable 17 per cent.
Well done to RVP:).

Due to the match in North London being switched, the home meeting with David Moyes' former club Everton is now scheduled for Wednesday 4 December with a 7.45pm GMT kick-off.
The away encounter at newly-promoted Cardiff City remains on Sunday 24 November, with a 4pm GMT start, and is live on Sky Sports.
All the Champions League Group A fixtures for the Reds will start at 7.45pm, including the visit to Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk.

Moyes keen to bolster squad
David Moyes admits he still hopes to add to his Manchester United squad before the transfer window shuts at 23:00 BST on Monday night.

The Reds boss wouldn't make any guarantees on Friday when he spoke to journalists at the Aon Training Complex but said he's certainly not given up hope on bringing in new players.
"I don't know how busy it's going to be but it's a busy football market," he said. "It might be busy in the next few days and I hope we do a little bit of business but I couldn't guarantee that."
Meanwhile, Moyes again found himself facing questions on Wayne Rooney's future. Manchester United have insisted since the start of the summer that the striker is not for sale, but speculation continues to link him with a move away from the club.
"We told you and everybody else from day one [our stance], so I don't think there's anything else to add today."
In a separate interview with PA Sport, the boss did elaborate a little more on the hunt for fresh blood ahead of the deadline.
"It was going to be a struggle because I was coming into the job and getting to know the players," he affirmed. "There was a new chief executive at the club as well. It was always going to take it a little bit of time to settle down.
"But we have been in and around the players we wanted to sign. We have been after two or three players. We have tried to go for them. Some of them we are still in with a shout with and some we are not."
I hope that we do manage to make a signing!

Ando eyes Anfield chance
Anderson says Anfield is the type of ground that can bring out the best in players and he hopes it will inspire United on Sunday.

The Brazilian midfielder has himself produced some excellent displays against the Merseysiders on their home patch and he is desperate to be involved in the latest clash between the two sides.
"I always enjoy playing at Anfield. It’s a ground I have done well at. It’s a stadium where the fans are very close to you and that inspires you and gives you lots of energy. It’s a great atmosphere to be involved in," he told ManUtd.com.
"Liverpool have a good team with good players, [Philippe] Coutinho has started well for them. We know we always need to play well against them."
Brendan Rodgers' side have started the season in fine fettle with three wins out of three in the league and Capital One Cup. While Manchester City and Chelsea look most likely to be United's biggest challengers for the title, the rivalry between the Reds and Liverpool remains as strong as ever. Anderson says it will always be a big game for United, but he insists every match as a Red carries expectation and pressure.
"I know people talk about the big games, but honestly every single game at Manchester United is a big one. You have to work so hard because everyone wants to win against you," he maintains.
"Of course though, Liverpool is always an important match. There is a lot of history between both clubs. We are all looking forward to the game."

Moyes thanks fans for support
David Moyes has thanked the Manchester United fans again for their backing ahead of the visit to the Anfield cauldron on Sunday.

The new manager has received the full support of the Reds faithful and was given a tremendous ovation when walking to the dug-out at Old Trafford for the first time in a competitive game on Monday evening.
With the travelling fans at Liverpool sure to continue in the same vein, Sir Alex Ferguson's successor stresses he wants to earn the adulation with performances on the field.
"It’s been great," enthused the boss. "I’m really delighted with the backing I have got.
"It was a brilliant reception when I came out the other night. I have to say the previous manager set that up for me as his words were fantastic before I joined the club.
"I said after the game I appreciated it and reiterate I want that to be because of what I do in the future. I thank everybody for the support. When you take a new job, any job, it can be difficult. But I have to try and get the backing because of what I do."
You're welcome David:).

Rooney blow for Reds
David Moyes expects to be without Wayne Rooney for a "few weeks" after the striker cut his head in training.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/DE9DBEA00AE44A4D82FAE991A85B134D.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,2352,876
The England international was injured in an accidental collision before Sunday's trip to Anfield. Moyes says he could be out of action for a while, possibly three weeks, and will definitely England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
"He got a cut down the middle of his forehead which was completely accidental," the United boss told Sky Sports.
"I've got to say it's quite a bad cut and it will probably keep him out for a few weeks."
While the FA confirmed on Sunday night that Rooney was out of England's World Cup qualifiers, the United manager explained more about the injury to reporters at his post-match press conference.
"It [the cut] is right down the middle of his forehead where you haven't got much skin; it'll take a wee while to heal. I'd be guessing he'll be out for three weeks," said Moyes.
"It was an accident. He turned around and Phil Jones had just lifted his boot and it caught him right down the middle of his forehead."

Jones to miss qualifiers
Though David Moyes saw positives in his side's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, the United manager left Anfield uncertain over the extent of injuries to two first team regulars.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/ACE6AF83D1C340A79C6327988083D7C9.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,28,567,238
While the champions were nearing full strength ahead of Sunday's trip across the north-west, a pair of knocks involving Phil Jones depleted their ranks in a costly couple of days.
The defender made way for Antonio Valencia after 37 minutes at Anfield, having landed awkwardly when contesting an aerial challenge, and the FA confirmed on Sunday night that Jones would miss England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
"He had a bad twist on his ankle and it blew up right away," Moyes told reporters at his post-match press conference.
In another unfortunate twist, the manager confirmed that it was Jones who was responsible for Wayne Rooney’s absence from the squad which travelled to Liverpool.
“It was a complete accident [in training], Jones turned in and lifted his boot as Wayne came in and caught his forehead,” the United boss explained.
“It’s bad. He has a cut right down the middle of his forehead in an area which takes a while to heal; I think he’ll be out for around three weeks.”
Positively, the manager confirmed that Shinji Kagawa is fast nearing match fitness after a disjointed summer. While explaining his decision to include Nani at the Japanese international's expense for the Liverpool defeat, Moyes said: "Both he [Nani] and Kagawa have similar fitness levels. I just thought that I might have needed to bring Nani on at some point during the game.”
The forthcoming international break provides Moyes and his backroom staff with just under a fortnight to patch up their injured players, before Crystal Palace's visit to Old Trafford on 14 September.

The champions are being linked with a whole host of players with many pundits expecting a busy final day on Monday for a number of clubs.
The United manager was pleased with the performance, if not the result, at Liverpool but claims he is not in a position to say whether a new signing will arrive at Old Trafford in time.
"We'll continue working for what is left of it [the window]," he explained. "And try and get what we can in but you can see why they [the players] are champions as I was really impressed by them today.
"There's not too long to wait [before the deadline]. Maybe there's a chance [of something happening] but I couldn't give you a heads up one way or another at the moment.
"There's a few things going on but we will know soon. I don't know how long there is to go, not long, and we'll see but, as I've said, I'm really pleased as the players have given me a lot of confidence."

Having lost to Liverpool on Sunday, Nemanja Vidic says his Manchester United team-mates are determined to set the record straight as soon as possible after the international break.

The champions were narrowly beaten at Anfield due to Daniel Sturridge’s fourth-minute goal, a telling early blow from which United struggled to recover. But as always, the focus is now on the next match – an Old Trafford meeting with Ian Holloway’s Crystal Palace on Saturday 14 September.
And although Vidic would prefer to play that match straight away as opposed to waiting almost two weeks, the retired Serbian international is keen to spend that time working hard at the Aon Training Complex while many of his club colleagues represent their respective countries around the world.
“You need the next game as quickly as possible,” Nemanja told MUTV following Sunday’s match at Anfield. “The next game is Crystal Palace and we have to be ready.
“Some of us will stay here [in Manchester] and we will work hard, some players will go away and maybe a few of them will need the games as well. Sometimes you need to go away, play for the national team and come back ready to perform.”

Fellaini move confirmed
Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton for an undisclosed fee.

Marouane, 25, from Etterbeek, Belgium, joined Everton in 2008 and has made 163 starts and 10 substitute appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 32 goals. A full Belgium international, he has 42 caps and seven goals since his international debut in 2007.
Manchester United manager David Moyes said: “I have worked with Marouane for five years and I’m delighted he has decided to join Manchester United. He is a player with great ability and strength and I think he will make a real difference to our squad.”
Marouane Fellaini said: “I am thrilled to sign for Manchester United. I have known the manager for many years now and I have a lot of respect for his way of working. When I was given the opportunity to work with him again, I jumped at the chance. I had a fantastic time at Everton and I’d like to thank all the fans and staff there for everything they have done for me. But being a Manchester United player is something that every player dreams of and I believe that I can make a real contribution to the team’s efforts to win trophies in the future."

Fellaini heads to Glasgow
Marouane Fellaini’s first match action after becoming a Manchester United player will be for Belgium in their World Cup qualifier against Scotland on Friday.

Fellaini is one of 10 Barclays Premier League-based players in a strong 24-man squad for the game against Gordon Strachan’s men at Hampden Park.
The unbeaten Red Devils lead Group A by three points ahead of Croatia and will take a step closer to automatic qualification for Brazil 2014 with victory over Scotland, who have only pride to play for after winning just one of their seven games so far.
Fellaini scored in Belgium’s last qualifier, a 2-1 home win over Serbia in June, to take his international tally to seven goals in 42 appearances.
The 25-year-old midfielder is set to link up with his new United team-mates at the Aon Training Complex for the first time following the international break next week, and could be in line to make his Reds debut against Crystal Palace on 14 September.

Manchester United and Wigan Athletic have agreed a season-long loan for Nick Powell.

The 19-year-old will link up with Latics manager Owen Coyle, who hopes to lead the club back into the top flight following last season’s relegation from the Barclays Premier League under Roberto Martinez.
Of course, Powell has been tipped for success since joining the Reds from Crewe Alexandra during the summer of 2012. Since then, he has made six first team appearances and even scored on his debut during a 4-1 win over Wigan at Old Trafford.
Speaking about the deal, Latics boss Coyle told Wigan's official website: “We’re delighted to welcome Nick to Wigan Athletic, and thank Manchester United for allowing a player whom they have invested a large sum of money in and has incredible talent, to join us for the season.
“We’re all excited to be offering him the opportunity to play football at a high level and for him to continue his development here at the club.”

The 17-year-old right-sided player impressed Reds representatives at this year's FIFA Blue Stars Tournament when he played against United and enjoyed a successful trial spell at the Aon Training Complex.
Zurich will receive an undisclosed sum for Saidy, who was born in Switzerland but has a Gambian father and a Swiss/Italian mother.

Bebe has joined Portuguese side F.C. Paços de Ferreira for the remainder of the 2013/14 season; a move back to the Primeira Liga following last term’s temporary switch to Rio Ave.
Italian prospect Davide Petrucci has moved to Belgian Second Division side Royal Antwerp, a club that has taken several United players on loan in recent history - including Luke Giverin and Gyliano van Velzen last season.
Meanwhile, Marnick Vermijl will link up with Dutch team NEC Nijmegen, where he follows in the footsteps of former Reds midfielder David Jones – who made the same move to the Eredivisie outfit in 2006.
All three deals have now been confirmed by United with Nick Powell also heading out for the season - to Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Moyes greets Marouane
David Moyes and Marouane Fellaini both spoke exclusively to MUTV, moments after the Belgian midfielder's transfer from Everton was completed. Here's a transcript of the United manager's interview...
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7B7025FD99DA4E91A915E0A3BAE17B44.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=58,0,2453,3587
It’s the second time you’ve signed Marouane Fellaini. What qualities will he bring to Manchester United?
Several different qualities. He’s a very good footballer and a good technician. He has the ability to score goals and play in several different positions in the midfield. I think that’s an area where everybody felt we could do with strengthening. He’ll give us different options in different games in terms of where we can use him. He’s still young and improving. For me, he’s been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the last few seasons. If he can join a club like Manchester United and continue to improve hopefully we’ll have a real good player on our hands.
Are you confident he can flourish on the Old Trafford stage?
Yeah, I think everybody has to be given the chance to do that. I’m confident he can. I think he’s a talented boy. He has a good mentality, he’s a good professional. We’re looking forward to seeing how he does.
Do you think he has a best position, or are there a variety of ways he can help the team?
He helped me over the years in different ways. He can play higher up, if we need it, behind the striker or as a defensive or holding midfielder. In any position in the middle of the field he’s comfortable. Because of that I think it’s definitely a position where people have said we’ve been short of numbers, with the likes of Paul Scholes [retiring] and Darren Fletcher not ready to come back just now. I felt we needed to strengthen there and I’m glad we got him.
Fans have seen him cause all sorts of trouble over the years in an Everton shirt. I suppose they’ll be relieved that he’s on our side!
I do know he’s not someone you want to play against because you have to make contingency plans for him. He has lots of attributes that other people don’t have. And there are other things he won’t have that we’ll have to help him with. But with the qualities he’s got, I’m sure he’ll be a good player for Manchester United.

Fellaini: This is my dream
After completing his transfer from Everton, new signing Marouane Fellaini spoke exclusively to MUTV. Here's what the Belgian had to say...

How do you feel now you’re a Manchester United player?
I’m very, very happy. It’s a big moment for me. I waited for a long time, I’ve worked hard for this and I’m very happy to join this big club, this great club. I hope to do everything for this club.
When you knew Manchester United wanted you, did you always want to come here?
Of course. It’s the biggest club in the world so of course I wanted to join this club. I tried everything to join the club.
What’s today been like? It went right for the deadline…
It’s been difficult, a very long day. I waited to the end… I know the situation, but this day has been very long.
You’ve played and scored at Old Trafford, but what will it mean to run out with a red shirt on?
It’s a big stadium, a big club. I hope I can score a lot of goals for Manchester United.
What do you hope you can achieve as a Manchester United player?
When I was young it was a dream to play for Manchester United. Now I’m here so I’ll try to give my best to the club. I want to win trophies. That’s the most important thing.

Nani signs new deal
Manchester United is delighted to announce that Nani has signed a new five year contract to June 2018.

The Portuguese winger signed for United in May 2007 and has won four Barclays Premier League titles, two League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Champions League in his six seasons at Old Trafford.
David Moyes said: "I'm really pleased Nani has re-signed for the next five years. He has great ability and experience beyond his 26 years. I've been impressed with his approach to training and look forward to working with him in the coming seasons."
Nani said: "Playing at United has been a fantastic experience for me. When I came to the Club, I never imagined the success we have enjoyed. Training every day with top players who want to win trophies every year is a great motivation to me. I'm very happy that the new manager has shown this faith in me and I'm looking forward to helping the team compete for more honours this season."

Robin: Moyes is the man
Robin van Persie says he is loving life under David Moyes and has praised his new manager’s personal approach to training at the Aon Training Complex.

The Manchester United striker, who is currently away with the Netherlands national squad, also believes Moyes has instilled a renewed hunger amongst his club colleagues following last season’s Barclays Premier League title triumph.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, van Persie said: “It’s great working with the new manager, David Moyes. He has his own style and methods and I like these.
“We have been working very hard from the day we started our tour to Asia and Australia. This will result in good matches - that's for sure. There is a very good atmosphere at the club.
“I'm happy with the style of Moyes,” Robin expanded. “He does his own training sessions; he's close with the players and, with his staff, prepares us very well for the next opponents. That keeps us in shape. And he has given us hunger for more [success].”
Van Persie is set to represent Holland against Estonia on Friday and Andorra on Tuesday, before returning to Manchester for next Saturday’s home league match with Crystal Palace.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says he is delighted the Premier League champions have signed Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
The Belgian international was acquired on transfer deadline day and his arrival means there will be extra competition for places in the United midfield.
But Carrick is happy about the deal, telling the Manchester Evening News: "It's something I welcome.
"The more top quality players you have in your squad, whether it's in my position or not, the better it is for the team.
"It's not a case of me thinking 'I might not be in the team'. I will have to play well to be in it, regardless."
Carrick was hugely impressive for United in their title-winning campaign last term and added: "I can't deny last season probably was my best one. My form was good and I was consistent.
"But it wasn't like I suddenly jumped from one level to the next. I didn't do anything differently to what I had done in the years before."

Petrucci harbours hope
Davide Petrucci retains his ambition of breaking into the Manchester United first team after joining Royal Antwerp on loan.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/5B0E8D0F2CBE457FA77A3D50E1716434.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,2,1558,1161
The cultured midfielder is following in the footsteps of many Reds over the years, including current centre-back Jonny Evans, who cut his teeth in Belgium before a couple of temporary spells at Sunderland.
After enjoying sustained success at Reserves and Under-21 level over the past few years, the 21-year-old is determined to impress for his new club with a view to catching David Moyes' eye in the long term.
"I spoke to Jonny and he told me good things about Antwerp from when he was here," explained Petrucci in an exclusive interview with ManUtd.com. "So that was probably one of the reasons I came here plus the manager is Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was a great player. That was an extra motivation for me so that’s why I came.
"I am at the age where I need to play. Reserves football is fantastic when you are young but for us, me especially, I played there for a few years and won everything every year. I needed that step up. I couldn’t do more than we have done already.
"I think it’s not easy for David Moyes because he’s just arrived and needs to have more focus on the first team. It’s understandable but I need to think about myself and try to play as well as I can. Hopefully, he will see that and I will come back."
Petrucci was unlucky to miss the end of last season due to injury after beginning to shine at Championship side Peterborough in another loan deal.
The Italian shrugged off the disappointment to prove himself as one of Warren Joyce's top performers again during the close season, scoring against Ross County and Manchester City.
"I felt good," he stressed. "I’ve had a few injuries in the past and, if it doesn’t kill you, it can only make you stronger. That’s what I think. That is why, every time I have an injury, I want to react even more to do even better. So, this season, I came and was very focused. I’m still very focused for the season. I did feel I played well in the friendly games and want to play regularly and keep doing well.
"You need to believe all the time – otherwise there is no point to play football, you know. If you don’t believe in yourself, it is better not to play. I hope I can come back to United and play for the first team."

Robin van Persie’s opener at Swansea has been named Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for August after one of the closest votes we can remember.
The Dutchman’s acrobatic effort picked up 33% of the votes cast by fans on ManUtd.com and its six international versions, narrowly beating his rising drive at the Liberty Stadium into second place (32%).
Danny Welbeck’s chip against the Swans followed closely behind on 30%, meaning the top three strikes were all scored in the same game.

The Brazilian featured regularly on the Tour 2013 presented by Aon and came off the bench at Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League opener. After being an unused substitute for the next two games, the 25-year-old is striving to start Saturday's Old Trafford encounter with newly-promoted Crystal Palace.
Outlining his aims for the season in an exclusive interview with Inside United, the official club magazine, Anderson stated: "I just want to play as many games as I can. I just hope I can stay clear of injuries.
"I’ve been training hard on the training pitch and in the gym, and working on my conditioning. I am pleased with how things are going and, whenever the manager needs me, I will be ready.
"I have been doing more running, which has helped my fitness. The physios in Portugal have helped me a lot, as have all the coaches at United. I have also been working hard myself. I have built up the strength in my knee, worked hard in training.
"I have been eating well and sleeping well, while I have also been coming into training on my days off to do more work. It has really helped me and I feel great."
During the in-depth interview with Inside United, which is out on Wednesday, Anderson reiterated his desire to steer clear of injuries in order to make a real impact throughout the champions' title defence.
"I think it’s a big season for me," he stressed. "For everyone. However, I don’t want to say that and then pick up another injury. I have often started seasons well, played six or seven games and then got injured.
"I’ll tell you at the end of the season if it’s been a big season for me!"
Hopefully!

Nani says David Moyes convinced him to sign a new deal at Manchester United
http://e1.365dm.com/13/09/16-9/20/NanivQPR_2998737.jpg?20130905163932
Manchester United ace Nani has revealed new boss David Moyes convinced him to stay at Old Trafford.
Nani was tipped to leave United this summer and it was even suggested he might run down his contract and leave on a free transfer next year.
However, the Portugal international ended speculation over his future by signing a new five-year deal last week.
Nani admits he turned down offers from other clubs to sign a new deal and that Moyes played a big role in his decision to pledge his long-term future to United.
"I am very content with my new deal at Manchester United," Nani told the Daily Mirror. "This summer was not easy but after a lot of thought and talking to David Moyes I believe it was the best solution.
"I feel I can offer many things to United. I had other important offers but without a sufficent challenge to make me want to leave United.
"The coach would not guarantee me a place in the XI more than any other player. I know I must work hard to get into this team.
"That is my objective for this season."

Manchester United are good enough to win trophies, says Marouane Fellaini
• £27.5m midfielder says his new club face a tough challenge
• 'Of course we still have the quality to win the league'
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Sport/Pix/pictures/2013/9/7/1378552220411/Marouane-Fellaini-008.jpg
Manchester United's £27.5m deadline day recruit Marouane Fellaini has insisted criticism of his new team following last weekend's defeat by Liverpool was unwarranted, and that David Moyes's players remain capable of defending the Premier League title.
Moyes and United have come under fire following a low-key transfer window, in which Fellaini was the only high-profile arrival. Bids for a host of other targets, including Fellaini's former Everton team-mate Leighton Baines, failed.
That scrutiny only intensified on account of a 1-0 loss at Anfield the day before the window closed but Fellaini, albeit predictably, has backed his new employers to come good.
"Of course we still have the quality to win the league," said the midfielder. "I watched the game [against Liverpool] and in the second half the team played well, played very well and had a lot of chances.
"My ambition this season is to win something with Manchester United and to play a lot of games for Manchester United. Winning a trophy is important.
"Of course it will be tough, we know it will be tough. But I think Manchester United has a great team and a great chance to win trophies so that is what I am looking forward to."
Fellaini was watched first-hand by Moyes – who also managed him at Everton – as he played for 68 minutes of Belgium's comfortable 2-0 win over Scotland at Hampden Park on Friday night. Afterwards, Fellaini reflected on a hectic spell.
"It was a great week for me," Fellaini said. "It was a bit nervous on Monday but in the end I have my transfer, I have a win with Belgium so I am happy. The result for Belgium was very important, we won even if it wasn't my best game.
"Of course I am looking forward to working with David Moyes again. But we have a lot of great players so I need to work hard for my place.
"It is a big step up for me, but I have been in England, I know the league and I know the players so I don't think I will have a problem with this move."

Woods and USA make Brazil
Chris Woods is another Manchester United man to have booked a place at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

The Reds' goalkeeping coach is part of the USA backroom team and works closely with his former Everton colleague Tim Howard, who is the country's No1. The States clinched qualification with a 2-0 triumph against Javier Hernandez's Mexico while Shinji Kagawa (Japan) and Robin van Persie (Netherlands) are also safely through to next summer's global event.
Woods, who arrived at Old Trafford in the summer with new boss David Moyes, is to continue at international level under former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann.
When asked by Inside United if he is staying in the role, he replied: "Yes, I really enjoy it. It gives me an opportunity to see other players in different parts of the world. So it can be a form of scouting, too!
"Jurgen Klinsmann is good to work with and it's enjoyable.

De Gea always learning
David De Gea says there is not one particular lesson he has learnt in his time as a Red so far which has helped him grow as a player and person, but the experience as a whole.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/3D928E222E994E679A5720B6AE2F1F15.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,1292,481
The Spanish goalkeeper has enjoyed a year to remember so far, with a Barclays Premier League title medal, a place in the 2012/13 PFA Team of the Year and a tournament victory with Spain’s Under-21s at the European Championships all achieved in 2013.
The 22-year-old has already come a long way in his two seasons at Old Trafford during which time he has established himself as the Reds’ no.1 and one of the best keepers around.
The man himself says he can’t pinpoint one particular thing which has contributed to his rise to prominence, adding that everything about life at United has enabled him to improve and continues to every day.
“It’s more about all the things you learn rather than one individual thing. It’s an on-going process as well, especially when you come to a club from another country. The whole thing is a great experience,” he told ManUtd.com.
“At first, everything is new. The football, the culture and how people live… it’s about learning how things work at the club and getting to know your team-mates. The whole package has been a lesson for me.
“The support I have had from everyone at the club has been fantastic. First of all you have to have the belief in yourself and self-confidence, but that is enhanced once your team-mates and people within the club show their confidence in you and their support.
“You have to be 100 per cent focused in every game at United,” he added. “For 70/80 minutes you might not have to make a save but then suddenly you might be called upon to make an important stop. You have to be ready all the time. You must concentrate and focus your mind on the game and nothing else throughout the 90 minutes.”
De Gea also hailed the influence of his team-mates and the way he was made to feel at home from day one.
“It’s a top dressing room and a great one to join,” he said. “Everyone in the squad helps you a lot and the settling-in process is made a lot easier by the fact that there is such a warm atmosphere here. All the players welcome you.”
Great, i'm pleased for him:).

Round: Fellaini fits just right
Marouane Fellaini has all the physical and mental attributes to bring something new to the United midfield, according to assistant manager Steve Round.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/AAED367D7AC0423D909008C2861FC1F6.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,150,3678,1516
The Belgian midfielder’s move from Everton has seen him team again with Round and Reds boss David Moyes following five years working under the pair at Goodison Park.
Having worked extensively with Fellaini at close quarters, Round is certain the 25-year-old’s skills and abilities will complement those of his new team-mates.
“He will add some real physical presence to us in midfield, some strength, and he scores goals,” Round told MUTV.
“He’s a player that will get regular double figures, and he is maybe a player that we didn’t really have in the middle of that midfield.
“We have some very good footballers – Michael Carrick is an unbelievably good passer, Tom Cleverley is busy, lively and links play, Anderson will drive forward with the ball, dribble and create.
“Maybe we needed that bit of presence and authority that can sit in the middle of the pitch and dominate a game from that perspective. It gives a nice blend and balance to mix the midfield up.”
Round also feels the former Standard Liege player’s strength of character will help him make the adjustment to life in the Old Trafford spotlight.
“He’s a very strong character, with very good self-belief,” Round adds. “It won’t daunt him to play at this level and he is mentally very tough.
“When a player comes to Manchester United, they have to have the correct mentality to survive here. It’s not enough to be good every so often, you have got to be good every minute of every day.
“Ryan Giggs has said it’s not enough to be good in training, you’ve got to be good with every pass. Not every so often but every pass. Marouane will rise to that, he’ll love that challenge.
“He’s earned and deserved the right to be here. He’s progressed every single year as a player, to the stage where the manager, the staff and the board here feel that he deserved the opportunity to play at this level.”

Moyes: Fellaini's a big asset
David Moyes has revealed that he targeted Marouane Fellaini in order to add something new to his midfield options at Manchester United.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/164420FB70F94621B7279E6F96BA7F88.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,128,1700,1082
The Belgian midfielder worked under Moyes for five years at Everton before reuniting with him at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the manager explained the retirement of Paul Scholes and the continued absence of Darren Fletcher were key factors in his drive to bring Fellaini, 25, to the club this summer.
“He's well known in the Premier League, experienced in the Premier League and he can do several different jobs,” said Moyes. “He can play different positions, score goals and is effective in different areas of the field. So I'm hoping that if he can continue to improve and does the same at Manchester United, we could have a really top player on our hands.
"He was someone who we pencilled in for a position here at Manchester United right from the start. We felt we could do with adding numbers; with Darren Fletcher’s illness and Paul Scholes retiring it meant we were short in that area of the field, so he was always one who was out there. We talked about it a lot and thankfully we got him here.
"I think when you get to the final day and that stage there’s always a bit of doubt; things can go wrong for different reasons and could easily have gone wrong in this one as well, but in the end it didn’t and thankfully we got him.
"We knew it [midfield] was an area of the field where we felt we had to strengthen. We had to try and get another central midfield player. But with Marouane being able to play a bit further on as well, it can give us different alternatives at different times if required.
A busy fixture schedule, in which United will play five games in a fortnight starting with the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday, plus Fellaini’s versatility were also in the manager’s thinking when securing the midfielder’s services.
He added, "He’s someone who can play in several roles and I needed that. We got a lot of games coming up, a busy schedule, and I want to be able to play in different ways in different games so he helps me to do that.”
The manager also confirmed he wanted to sign not just one but two players in a double bid to his former club Everton - the other target being England international left-back Leighton Baines.
"We had chosen to do it the way we did because we wanted to try and get Leighton Baines," said Moyes. "We didn’t want to give up on Leighton Baines until right at the last minute. We felt the best way to do that was to try and keep the two deals together, and only at the last minute did we split the deals. That was the way we chose to do it."

Fellaini: It's a dream move
Marouane Fellaini has described his deadline-day move to Manchester United as a 'dream', and hopes to repay David Moyes' faith in him by joining the long list of greats at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the media for the first time since his summer transfer from Everton, the Belgian praised his former club, but says he now wants to win silverware with the Reds.
Fellaini said: "I talked with the manager because it was a big opportunity for me to join one of the biggest clubs in the world. He knew my objectives: I want to win trophies, I play football for this, and with Manchester United I have a big chance to win something.
"I thought I had no chance to join United but in the end I joined the club so for me it’s a dream. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a big dream.
"I need to work hard for my place because there are a lot of good players at the club. I need to work hard to show [what I can do]. I have a big chance with the manager and the staff. I’ve had a lot of games in the Premier League, I know the players and their quality. I think that’s good for me. Now I need to play and play well for the team – that’s it.
"I will prove myself on the pitch. Some people don't like my qualities, but I don't care. The manager, staff and players here know me. The manager gave me confidence [when he signed him at Everton]. I didn't know anyone, but he helped me."
The midfielder also spoke highly of his previous employers, and expressed his relief at completing the late deal, which enabled him to make the switch to the Reds.
Fellaini added: "With Everton and the chairman, we never knew about the deal. Sometimes, I thought there was no chance, but in the end I was so happy to join United. I talked with the manager, because it was a big opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"Of course, United want big players, but the main thing was for me to stay fit and wait until the end of the window. Everton was a great club for me, great team-mates and great moments. I respect the fans but it was time for me to leave.
"I've found the intensity of training to be a step up from Everton. United are a big team with big players, and Everton were a great team too. But the difference is that United have won trophies."
The 25-year-old Belgian is confident that he can play in several roles, and is looking forward to the challenge.
"I can play defensive or attacking - whatever helps the team. The most important thing is to win the game."
Nice words:). I am looking forward to Fellaini's first game with us and also to see him improve on his game!

Boss cautious over Rooney
David Moyes has delivered a positive update on Wayne Rooney's situation but refused to reveal whether when the striker can be considered for selection.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/DE9DBEA00AE44A4D82FAE991A85B134D.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,2,2352,1324
The Reds' No10 sustained a nasty head injury in training ahead of the trip to Liverpool in the previous Barclays Premier League fixture and also missed England's World Cup qualifying double-header against Moldova and Ukraine.
Naturally, United are keen to be cautious with Rooney due to the nature of the injury.
"He's in great physical shape but obviously he's got the cut right in the middle of his forehead which could split where the skin is very thin," stated Moyes. "He's had the stitches out and it's knitted well.
"We've just got to see where the level of risk is with his head injury."
Wilfried Zaha, meanwhile, will not be any more likely to feature against Crystal Palace simply because he signed from the Eagles.
"We've been pleased with Wilfried," explained the boss. "He's been quite bright over the few days since he's been back. He got a couple of games for the England Under-21s and is one of the most promising players on the way up.
"The fact that it's his old club in this game won't change my views in any way but he's someone who we hope he can continue to develop and, when we think he's ready, we'll get him towards the team."
Moyes feels newly-promoted Palace will provide a real test at Old Trafford in Saturday's 12.45pm BST kick-off.
"It'll be a tough game," he asserted. "They've brought in a lot of new players in the window and Ian Holloway will be keen to get them integrated quickly. They're coming off the back of a good result last time [a 3-1 home win against Sunderland] as well.
"I've been pleased with a lot of aspects as to how we've played. I would have liked more points and more goals but I think an awful lot of our football has been very good. I'm hoping for that part of it to continue."

Nani feels at home at United
Nani has revealed he feels at home at Manchester United after signing a new five-year contract with the club.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/527C717DE55C48808161545509B00CDC.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,1779,999
The Portuguese winger entered the final year of his existing deal at Old Trafford but put pen-to-paper on fresh terms to commit his long-term future to the Reds.
David Moyes' decision to tie the winger down is a real illustration of his faith in the 26-year-old, who made his first competitive appearance for the new manager as a substitute at Liverpool.
"I'm very happy," Nani told MUTV's Countdown to Kick-off. "It's always a pleasure to be at this club and be part of the great teams all these years.
"I'm so proud to sign a new deal with Manchester United because that's what I wanted to do. At the moment, I'm more relaxed to just focus on football and concentrate on what I want to do - to help the team and be at my best.
"Since I started my professional football career, the most part was here - all the successful seasons were here at Manchester United. I feel home. I feel good at this club because this club can give you a lot of things. I'm so happy to be here."
With the tricky wide man in his seventh season at the club, there remains the ambition to achieve more domestically and in the Champions League.
"I look to do better than I have been doing all these seasons," he insisted.
Individually and with the team as well.
"I learn one thing at this club - every season you have to have the ambition to win a trophy again. I want to win again. I think all my team-mates think the same. I'm focused on the league and the Champions League - all the competitions we are in.
"I'm so happy to be here for the next years. I think, now, I have all the conditions to work and focus at the club on what we want to achieve."
I'm really happy about this!

Kagawa absence explained
David Moyes revealed Shinji Kagawa missed Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace because he has picked up a mild case of ‘flu.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/477DBC076EEB4D16BBAE1CF7FBE9F9B7.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,19,531,316
The Japan international has not yet featured for the Reds in the Barclays Premier League this season and was missing from the squad that saw off the Eagles 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Afterwards, Moyes confirmed at his press conference that the midfielder is recovering from an illness the manager feels was contracted on international duty.
"Shinji hasn't been in that much; he's been travelling back and forth between us and Japan," Moyes said.
"Today, it looks as if he's picked up ‘flu through flying so much and he's been tired. He trained yesterday and didn't feel great. We hoped he'd improve in the hotel overnight but he didn't, so there's no need for us to take the risk.
"We're trying to get him back but we've not had the chance to see him and he's not been here that often, so we've not had the chance."

Marouane made for United
Ryan Giggs is confident that Marouane Fellaini will settle straight into life at Old Trafford following his transfer deadline day move from Everton, adding that the towering Belgian brings vital qualities to United's midfield.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/ED62E08F282643E5AD0B335A2595D844.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,44,1280,520
Fellaini made his last-minute switch from Goodison to Old Trafford and Giggs says that his desire to join the Reds is also a promising sign of the commitment and dedication he will bring to making a success of his United career.
"Marouane is proven in the Premier League so he doesn't need any bedding-in time when it comes to learning the English game," Giggs told United Uncovered, the club's official email newsletter. "That's a big positive. He brings us strength, height at set-pieces and goals from midfield.
"He was really keen to join us and that's always a great quality: when a player is desperate to play for United they're usually determined to make the most of it when they're given that chance. I have no doubt he'll enjoy himself here, playing in the Champions League, playing in the big games."
The Reds are well aware of the threat of facing Fellaini. His height and physical presence are major assets, but that perhaps undersells his qualities with the ball at his feet. "He's the sort of player you want on your side rather than playing against us," adds the Welshman. "He's caused us a few problems in the past and last season he scored goals against us, Arsenal and Manchester City... so he has what it takes to perform in the big games.
"He was someone who always warranted a mention in our team-talks when we played Everton. In the 4-4 draw at Old Trafford in April 2012 he was a real handful and scored against us again on the opening day of last season, so he was definitely someone we focused on when we played Everton. Hopefully that will work in our favour now and other teams will focus on Marouane, leaving somebody else with a bit more room to play."

Glad that we won:). Pleased that Wayne Rooney started, albeit with an amusing protective headband and that he scored with an impressive free kick in the second half.
RVP with a good penalty in the first half too to put us 1-0 up.
Ashley Young needs to cut out the theatrics, but glad that David Moyes has publicly criticised him and said that he will speak to the player.
We lacked creativity at times, but the players are still getting used to the way DM wants them to play. Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj looked lively when they came on too!

Fellaini savours United debut
Marouane Fellaini has thanked the Manchester United fans for their support during his Reds debut on Saturday; a comfortable 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C7315A2F56314931A042CE918156E0E8.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,191,1236,883
The Belgian midfielder replaced Anderson after 60 minutes to receive an impressive ovation from four corners of Old Trafford. And quite brilliantly, many attendees were even wearing wigs in a comical tribute to United’s newest recruit.
Afterwards, when speaking exclusively to MUTV, Fellaini was keen to acknowledge such a fantastic welcome and expressed his delight towards winning what could have been a tricky match.
“I am happy to have started at Old Trafford with the crowd who supported me,” Marouane said. “It was a fantastic debut and we won, which was most important. I was both nervous and excited. I thought I had to play my game and with my quality.
“I would like to say thank you to the supporters, it was good for me. The supporters helped me, it was important for me. Every time I will give my maximum for the club and for my team-mates.
“It was a good win, not hard or easy, just a good win. Man United want to win every game and we won today so it was good for our confidence ahead of the next game - because the next game is a big game, it is a Champions League game. So this is good for the confidence.”
Manager David Moyes was understandably pleased for Fellaini to take his bow and explained why his arrival to the action was key to securing three points.
"I thought Fellaini played well today, hopefully all the supporters saw what he can do," the boss said. "We were delighted he got on, I wanted him to win the ball for us, give it to our good players so we could go and score goals.
"He’s more than that, but I thought today he came on and calmed it down when we were only winning 1-0. I had to make sure, even though they had ten men, that we didn’t do anything stupid and we didn’t."
Saturday’s match saw another Belgian midfielder make his Old Trafford debut in the form of 18-year-old prodigy Adnan Januzaj, who caught the eye of compatriot Fellaini.
“Everybody knows he has a lot of quality, he is the future of Manchester United,” Fellaini explained. “He has a lot of qualities, he needs to work hard but he did well today, very well. He has a big time now, so he needs to work hard, keep going and help the team.”
Well done Fellaini:).

Home win delights Moyes
David Moyes praised his players after earning his first home win as Manchester United manager, in a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/E34BA9BAA6904F3F97900A225DCE7DEB.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,103,711,367
Goals from Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney settled the contest, and the boss was delighted to get up and running at Old Trafford while his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson watched from the stands.
Moyes said: "I'm very happy. I thought there was a lot of good play, in the early part of the first half we were very good. We created a lot of crossing positions and goal-scoring opportunities which we didn’t take. We made it a little bit nervy, so I was delighted when we got the penalty kick before half time.
"I think he [Sir Alex] will be pleased, he knows the Premier League and he’ll have seen the team play well, create quite a lot of chances and do a professional job. We didn’t concede any goals, which is a great thing. At the moment, we’re looking strong defensively and that will be really important in the coming games."
United were awarded a controversial first-half penalty when Ashley Young appeared to be brought down just outside the area, but Moyes believes that a spot kick was no more than his men deserved.
He added: "I’ve had a chance to see it. There’s part of it I agree with, I think the first contact is outside the box, but I wasn’t so sure about the other one. The one on Patrice Evra could have been a penalty kick, we had two or three calls for it, but we deserved it because we played well enough and were the dominant team."

Wayne unscathed on return
David Moyes has revealed that Wayne Rooney came through 90 minutes against Crystal Palace unscathed after wearing a headband to protect his head injury.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/B9AF8A0B152C4D4493B213350411737C.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,92,1771,1087
The United striker produced a couple of moments of real quality during the 2-0 triumph against the ten-man Eagles, picking out Robin van Persie with a tremendous through ball when the Dutchman hit the bar, and making the points safe with a stylish free-kick.
After coming on as a substitute against Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League opener, Rooney started - and impressed - against Chelsea, only to be forced out of the trip to his native Merseyside to face Liverpool because of the gash he sustained in training.
"We wanted to try to get Wayne through 90 minutes today," explained the boss.
"It was a difficult decision [to play him] but we were trying to see him in training with the headband on and he felt okay with it. He felt he could wear it so we thought we'd try and get him out. It looks like a sumo wrestler's! It was a great free kick though.
"I felt he tired a little bit in the second half but I spoke to him and said: 'Look, we'll get you 90 minutes' because of his lack of match practice to help him towards the overall goal of getting back to match sharpness and match fitness. There was no reaction. He looks fine and went for a couple of headers with it!
"I felt that I wanted to keep him on, get some minutes under his belt, and get him ready for the coming weeks and months. Goalscorers want to score, and Robin and Wayne got goals today, that’s what we want."
Van Persie was withdrawn towards the end to give Javier Hernandez a run-out but Danny Welbeck was absent due to fluid on his knee. Moyes suggested he will monitor the England forward in the coming days with the Manchester derby following Tuesday's Champions League tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

Giggs: We'll cope with busy spell
Ryan Giggs has no doubt that Manchester United’s squad has what it takes to cope with the demands of the fixture list over the next few weeks.

The start of the Reds’ Champions League campaign, at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, kicks off a hectic run of four games over 11 days. Following the visit of the German side, United then visit Manchester City before hosting another fierce rival in the shape of Liverpool in the Capital One Cup. West Brom visit the following Saturday, but Giggs feels that this busy period will prove that the players have found their feet at just the right time.
“I think we’re in good shape,” Giggs declared to ManUtd.com. “In the first few games of the season you don’t really know where everyone’s at because players have joined at different times of pre-season or missed pre-season altogether.
“But now, especially after the international break, I think a few of the guys have caught up in terms of training or minutes on the pitch for their countries. We’re all ready and prepared to fully use the squad now because it seems like there’s a game every couple of days from now on.”
Giggs, who turns 40 in November, expects David Moyes to dig deep into his playing roster with the quick turn-around between these important fixtures in mind. “Different players will be used in all those games because this is where the squad comes into its own," added Ryan. "Just about everybody is fit, which is a bonus, so I’m confident heading into this busy period.”

Rooney voted star man
Wayne Rooney picked up just over half of the fans' vote to win the Man of the Match award for the 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C7CFA5B84D2A48B8A539F4B0CB033CE9.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,1,1763,1314
The United No10 played in a headband designed to protect the nasty training-ground injury he sustained in preparation for the visit to Liverpool.
The supporters were clearly impressed with his contribution as his free-kick added to Robin van Persie's penalty to seal a comfortable victory against ten-man Palace. Adnan Januzaj ran Rooney close with an exciting performance as a second-half substitute, with his direct play and trickery enchating the Old Trafford faithful. Michael Carrick finished in third spot after the nominations were made by MUTV pundits Gordon McQueen and Lou Macari.
"The fans love that kind of commitment," explained McQueen to the club's official TV channel. "A top player who is willing to go out and risk what is obviously a very bad gash and is desperate to play. Despite the peculiar headgear, big plaster and what not, he still came out and put in the performance that he did.
"Remember it was a great pass and he should've been scoring one and making one for Robin van Persie. It was a bad miss but a great pass by Rooney, who was probably our best player."
Macari was also in agreement with the fans' decision to opt for Rooney, who is now off the mark for the Barclays Premier League season.
"I think that's just about right," the Scot stated. "Wayne got his goal and his other play was good right throughout the game. Januzaj came on and made a big impact. The crowd liked him and the fact there was a youngster on the scene again."
Well done Wazza!

Januzaj: I'll give everything
After sampling a first taste of Old Trafford, Adnan Januzaj is hungry for more and insists he will “give everything for the club” when given the chance.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C76D62F5CA5F4B0783CD41CA28A3F9E7.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,0,645,362
Januzaj made his Barclays Premier League debut on Saturday in a comfortable 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, replacing Ashley Young after 67 minutes. The outing followed hot on the heels of his official bow during last month’s FA Community Shield at Wembley.
Now, the 18-year-old is desperate to impress and hopes to feature again soon, having produced an encouraging performance of great courage and verve against the Eagles.
“I felt great and shocked because I played for about 25 minutes and that was my first [league] game," Adnan told MUTV. "I think I did some good things, but it is only my debut so I have to keep doing well on the pitch. I appreciate the very good fans, they gave me a bit of power when I came on the pitch. I am very happy.
“I hoped to get a goal but I tried to do my best for the team and tried to give goals and score goals. I just tried to do my best. Of course, I want more games to play and I hope I will have another chance to play for the first team. If I have the chance then I will give everything for the club.”
Speaking after Saturday’s win, manager David Moyes revealed he almost picked Januzaj from the start and explained why the Belgian hasn’t been able to build on his impressive tour performances so far this season.
“Adnan's ahead of schedule,” said Moyes. “I would have introduced him earlier if the games had been suited but the start of the Premier League has been a bit more difficult. I thought today if I got the opportunity I'd introduce him and I considered playing him from the start.
“His performance when he came on shows that would have been merited. He did a lot of good things, he moved with the ball well. The boy's going to be a good player, he's 18 years old and he's a good talent.”
Well done Adnan, he certainly impressed but needs to keep working hard and he has a bright future at United.

Shinji Kagawa is class to watch with his technique and vision/creativity. Antonio Valencia has been full of confidence and played well like Wayne Rooney, who has been great.

Carrick enjoys new duo
Michael Carrick has spoken of his enjoyment of playing alongside Marouane Fellaini after the pair started their first match together in Tuesday's Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/46A848CF74A54C17A92C56022D49E0FB.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,11,642,250
Fellaini impressed during his first ever game in the competition as the Reds secured a 4-2 victory in their opening Group A match.
Carrick says the Belgium international has fitted in well and that his arrival has afforded David Moyes another excellent option in the squad.
"It was good to play with him. He’s a real presence in there," Carrick told MUTV. "You could see tonight that he’s such a dominant player and he gives us something that we haven’t had and that’s exactly what you want – options in the squad.
"Sometimes you want to play different ways and he gives us that option. There’s no point in having similar players. He’s fitted in well and settled in great. He’s a top player and we want as many of those that we can get."
Tuesday's win, on the back of three points in the league against Crystal Palace at the weekend, is exactly the boost the Reds wanted ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester City.
"Tonight gives us a lot of confidence going into Sunday. As a package it was a polished all-round performance," added the England international.
"We’ve had a stop-start beginning to the season and people have been asking questions as normal. Tonight we got a good performance and result. We really meant business, we knew how important it was to get the result and thankfully we did that."

Rooney joins 200 club
Wayne Rooney netted his 200th goal for Manchester United in Tuesday night's 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7D2187F289504957B812998319BE36BE.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,1,1530,1141
The striker reached the milestone with a cool finish past visiting goalkeeper Bernd Leno after he had earlier put the Reds in front with an assured side-footed volley from close range.
Only four other men in history have hit the 200 milestone: Sir Bobby Charlton (249 goals), Denis Law (237) and Jack Rowley (211).
It's taken Rooney just 406 appearances to bag his double century, meaning he scores, on average, almost a goal every other game. At just 27 years of age, the club's all-time record must surely be in the striker's sights.
"To surpass Sir Bobby would really be something," David Moyes admitted afterwards.
Rooney's goals on Tuesday also took him to second in United's Champions League scorers chart, past Ryan Giggs. He now has 30 goals, just eight shy of Ruud van Nistelrooy's record tally.
Congratulations Wazza, what an achievement at United:).

Moyes happy with win
David Moyes was pleased by Manchester United's positive start in the UEFA Champions League, having watched his side record a 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Under the glow of the Old Trafford floodlights, the Reds were convincing victors thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney (2), Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia. Those strikes outweighed a couple of spirited second half ripostes from Simon Rolfes and Omer Toprak.
As a result, United are now top of Group A ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk, who secured a fine 2-0 away win at Real Sociedad. And while that is obviously a bonus, Moyes isn’t getting carried away.
“We were really pleased with the goals we scored,” the boss told MUTV. “I was delighted to get the first one and get it started and I thought we had good control of the game from there on in. Leverkusen were a threat at set-pieces all night really, they’re a very big team. But overall we had control and we scored some really good goals tonight.
“It was important that we won tonight so that we weren’t chasing things. Things will get more difficult as we go along, but I thought Leverkusen were a decent side. We played well enough to limit their opportunities. However I wouldn’t underestimate them by any means and we won’t be underestimating Shakhtar who, by all accounts, had a good result too.”
Tuesday’s match also saw new-signing Marouane Fellaini make his Champions League debut for the club, producing a solid performance for 81 minutes before departing for Tom Cleverley. Afterwards, Moyes praised the Belgian and explained why he was substituted.
“I thought he (Fellaini) played well tonight, I thought he settled in well,” he told reporters. “He started to get a bit of cramp midway through the second half so I just thought I wouldn’t take any chances with him. But I thought he did a good job and played well tonight.”
The manager also had positive words for Antonio Valencia, who looked full of confidence on the right wing and capped an encouraging display with an excellent goal on 79 minutes, a finish that capped a superb team move for the Reds.
“We knew that if we could get Antonio Valencia plenty of the ball then he’d be able to deliver the crosses. He did do and ran the full-back a couple of times in the first half.
“It was his goal I was pleased with, he’s got a great strike on him with that right-foot and it was great to show that. I’ve said to him that he should score more goals.”

Rooney romps MOTM poll
Wayne Rooney was the resounding winner of our Man of the Match poll after an inspired display in the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The striker made it to 200 goals for the club after netting United's first and third goals in the 4-2 victory on Tuesday night. He also made the fourth and was impressive throughout.
Users on ManUtd.com and followers on @ManUtd voted in their thousands, with Rooney claiming 75 per cent of the votes.
Team-mate Michael Carrick praised the forward after the game, telling MUTV: "It was as good as I’ve seen him for a while. He looked sharp and hungry; his movement and touch was all there and he showed exactly what a player he is. It’s great to have him in that kind of form."
Antonio Valencia, scorer of the Reds' fourth goal, was second with 16 per cent of the votes, while Robin van Persie, who volleyed home the second, collected nine per cent.

RVP lauds confident Reds
Confidence is often the key to success and Robin van Persie believes United’s self-belief provided the foundation for Tuesday’s convincing victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds brushed aside the Bundesliga giants with relative ease thanks to two goals from Wayne Rooney, one from Antonio Valencia and another from van Persie, whose movement up front was also an eye-catching component in an encouraging team display.
And when speaking to MUTV after the match, the Dutchman was quick to praise his team-mates and explain why they were such convincing winners.
“We were very confident on the ball tonight, everybody did their bit and we scored a couple of goals,” said Robin. “Everything starts with being confident on the ball and trying to look for that pass in front, that’s what we did and that’s why we scored.”
Robin also had kind words for Rooney after his strike partner converted his 200th goal for United, whilst also tipping his cap to Marouane Fellaini following his Champions League debut.
“Wayne played really well. I love to play with him as he can do everything, he can drop, he can go in behind, he can play the short and the long game. He did really well.
“Marouane did really well also. He was very solid and gets a lot of loose balls back. He’s very confident and always tries to get the ball going forward.”

Smalling hails spirit
United’s team spirit and character was a key factor in the Reds’ 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen for Chris Smalling.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/907391E8F27D4DC28E38725409AAE567.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,156,1858,845
The German side equalised through their captain, Simon Rolfes, after United had gone into half-time ahead courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s opener, but Robin Van Persie’s superb volley saw United re-take the lead again just two minutes after Leverkusen had levelled.
United never looked back and, despite a late consolation goal from the visitors, they were good value for the three points that kicked off this season's Champions League campaign in fine style.
“If the players don't stick together you don't have any hope,” said the 23-year-old defender. “But we have a very tight knit group here and against Leverkusen we saw that. Even when they scored their first goal, we didn't let our heads drop. We were determined to go up the other end and make them pay, and we did.
“We should have cut out their sloppy goals, then we would have been really happy but overall it was a very good team performance.”
With the first group game of this season’s Champions League safely negotiated, thoughts now turn to next Sunday’s derby and Smalling, pressing for his first start in the Premier League of the season, says the prospect of facing City on their own patch holds no fears.
“It is a game that we all relish. It is better going to their stadium, it is backs to the wall and we will come out fighting.”
Smalling was a second-half substitute when United snatched all three points thanks to Van Persie’s stoppage time free kick on their last visit to the Etihad Stadium, and memories of that dramatic win last December are still fresh in the England international’s memory.
“If there was a way you could choose to win a game, in the last minute, away from home, against your biggest rivals, that was it. The celebrations and what we went through afterwards were brilliant.”

Carrick praises strikers
Michael Carrick has hailed Wayne Rooney’s performance in the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen as “untouchable”.

Rooney’s two-goal haul, which included his 200th strike as a Manchester United player, inspired the Reds to get their Group A campaign off to a perfect start with a 4-2 victory.
Robin van Persie was also in sublime form, volleying United into a 2-1 lead when he hooked home a cross from Antonio Valencia, and all three players were praised to the hilt by an impressed Carrick.
“It was probably Wayne's best performance that I've seen for a while,” the midfielder told ManUtd.com. “It's great to have him in that form - he can be untouchable when he’s like that.
“To have lads like that in your team is brilliant. I thought Antonio was immense on Tuesday night as well and to have Wayne and Robin scoring and assisting is fantastic. Even if they're maybe not having the best of games they can always come up with something. I thought they played really well on Tuesday.”
Carrick is convinced that the team have found form at the right time ahead of Sunday's derby.
“I don't think we've played that badly so far this season,” he added. “The Swansea game was a good game, the Chelsea one was tight, but Liverpool is always a bit of a one-off game which you can't really read too much into.
“We won at the weekend, and on Tuesday we took it to another level and improved again. Hopefully we can do it again on Sunday. The performance will breed confidence, and we'll have to do it all again on Sunday.”

Butt hails Scholes role
Nicky Butt has welcomed Paul Scholes back into the Manchester United fold after his former team-mate's break from the game.#

Butt took charge of the thrilling 4-3 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the new UEFA Youth League and had Scholes by his side on the bench with the 38-year-old still deciding which role to pursue following his retirement.
"Scholesy has obviously had his break with his family and had a bit of a holiday," explained Butt to MUTV. "He's finished football now but, with someone like Scholesy, it's important United keep him in around the club in whatever capacity he feels he wants to be in.
"Whether it be coaching my age-group, Warren Joyce's age-group or Paul McGuinness' youth team; or even the commercial side or scouting, we don't know yet.
"He doesn't really seem to know what his niche is going to be but he's interested in coaching and knows he's got a lot of experience to pass on to the young lads. To have him here was great and we just want to have him around the club.
"It's important for us all that he's available around the club for whatever he wants to do and so that's where we are at the moment."
It was great seeing Scholesy back at United in some capacity:), he enjoyed his break but you can tell he could not stay away from the club he loves for too long!

Clubs agree Lingard loan
Manchester United and Birmingham City have agreed a one-month loan deal for Jesse Lingard.

The 2011 FA Youth Cup winner is set to join Blues manager Lee Clark at St Andrew's, where he is eligible to play in the Championship up to and including Sunday 20 October.
Of course, Lingard caught the eye during this summer’s Tour 2013 Presented by Aon by scoring four goals, more than any other first-team player.
Most recently, the Warrington-born forward also made his England Under-21s debut, coming on as a second-half substitute during a 6-0 demolition of Scotland in August.
He will wear the no.9 jersey for Birmingham and could make his debut against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
"I expect a couple more lads to go out on loan shortly, this week," revealed Reserves coach Warren Joyce to MUTV on Monday. "Then we have got to build ourselves into a settled side and get a pattern of play by having everybody at it, like we have in the last few years.
"There will be several players that need to be out loan now that we need to look at."
Good luck to Jesse with his loan spell at Birmingham City, he is a young player who I really rate and so hope makes the breakthrough at United. He is such a likeable guy too.
All sides will benefit from this deal...

De Gea: We're in good shape
David De Gea says Manchester United will go into Sunday’s derby in confident mood following the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds’ European campaign got off to an impressive start on Tuesday as Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie both scored again to help defeat the Bundesliga outfit 4-2, while Antonio Valencia got on the scoresheet too.
"The victory has boosted our confidence for Sunday," De Gea told ManUtd.com. "It was important to kick off with a win; we made a good start and got the three points, which gives us peace of mind.
"We’ve since had a few days to prepare for City and we’re looking forward to the match."
David was full of praise for Rooney, who scored twice against Leverkusen to become only the fourth man to reach 200 goals for United.
"Not only did he score goals, he played some great football, worked hard, brought dynamism to the team and played a really great game," the goalkeeper said.
"It’s good for us that he and Robin score goals. It is important; they are key players and this year they will combine to great effect."
Well said DDG:).

United boss hails duo
David Moyes has praised Antonio Valencia and Wayne Rooney for their fine form heading into Sunday's Manchester derby against City.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/BA7F9A1297DF4E859E9D8071D900C588.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,3,1980,1115
The duo were excellent in the 4-2 beating of Bayer Leverkusen, scoring three of the goals between them and also claiming an assist each. Valencia has, of course, reverted back to his old shirt number of 25 and sparkled down the right wing throughout the Champions League victory.
"He has done very well," stated Moyes. "They keep telling me that he needed to change his number so we got that changed for him! Sometimes, psychologically, it can make a difference to a player.
"Overall, I've been really pleased with him. I actually said to him today: 'You should be getting yourself seven or eight goals a season regularly.' He looked at me and squinted a bit! Hopefully he knows what I mean! I don't know how many he scored last season, I think it was only one or two [it was one - against West Ham]. He's got off to a good start and hopefully he’ll get close to the target I’d like to him get this season."
Rooney also excelled in the Champions League win in midweek and the boss was asked about the likelihood of the 200-goal striker signing a new contract.
"I think we just go step-by-step," he replied. "If he could score another two goals at the weekend that would be the next step forward wouldn't it and just keep his form going. I think he's played really well and we want him to maintain that. If anything, I'm asking him to step up again.
"I want him to keep getting better," stressed the manager at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"Wayne trained really hard and was in great shape just before he damaged his hamstring in Thailand – I told you that but I don’t know if you all believed me. We thought he was going to be okay, but it wasn’t.
"We kept him working really hard. Well, he did that, I should say. He was in really good shape. I was really impressed with the condition he was in and the work he did in pre-season. He is getting the fruits of that. He’s worked hard and is showing everyone exactly what he can do."

Boss says it's all down to Wayne
David Moyes says the credit for Wayne Rooney's good form this season should go to one man and one man only - Rooney himself.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7D6AE1B563CC48D1BE17073602B252F8.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,40,1317,1019
The striker opened his account for the season against Crystal Palace last Saturday after a Man of the Match performance and he carried on where he left off against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night with two goals which took him to the 200 mark for the Reds.
Many people have praised Moyes' man management of Rooney since taking over at Old Trafford in July, but the United boss insists it's Rooney himself who deserves all the plaudits.
"Don't for one minute think I am going to take the credit. The credit is for Wayne Rooney for getting himself the way he is. We are here to help make him better. It is up to Wayne to do it. He takes the credit for that," Moyes told radio reporters on Friday. "He was always a great player, even when he was leaving Everton he had the potential. He had all the ability in the world. Could he pull it all together? He has proved that over many years.
"Everybody is aware of what Wayne has done since he left Everton. I have only had a chance to work with him for three months here, but he has knuckled down really well. He has done his training. Everything he has done he has done himself. He has done it to make himself better.
"The big thing is he got himself into really good shape physically. He looks lean. He is back to being his aggressive self again. He is fast and hungry. I needed all those things from him if I was ever going to get Wayne back to the level he is at."

Moyes: Derby could be crucial
David Moyes says United are in confident mood ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby, a match that he feels will influence the Barclays Premier League title race.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8E3BA4BA136C410795A760201D817ACA.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,38,800,487
The Reds head to the Etihad Stadium on the back of two impressive wins against Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen, a couple of results that also saw strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie return to scoring ways in clinical fashion.
As a result, Moyes is optimistic about facing City, who drew 0-0 with Stoke City last time out. The boss is also well aware of what a local derby means to fans, having played for Celtic against Rangers and most recently managed Everton against Liverpool.
“We’ve played well in the last few games and have got a bit of confidence and hopefully we’ll try and show that in the game on Sunday,” the boss told reporters on Friday.
“There is an excitement for any derbies in any big city in the world. They’re all really important to your own supporters. They’re important to the players as well but ultimately it’s about what happens come the end of the season and how many points you get together to see who is top. These points could be really important towards that, they may not be. We’ll go and we’ll try and take all the points.
“I’ve experienced derby games in Glasgow and on Merseyside. But as I said every derby in every big city is important to whichever team you support and I understand how important it is for the Manchester United fans.”
Sunday’s derby will also see two new managers – Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini - patrolling the dugouts following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and dismissal of Roberto Mancini in the summer, adding extra spice to an already potent cocktail.
Of course, the pair have done battle before in 2005 when Everton lost to Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League third round, a match that was shrouded in controversy after Pierluigi Collina disallowed Duncan Ferguson's late header for an apparent infringement.
When quizzed on that match during Friday’s press conference at the Aon Training Complex, the boss was quick to praise the Spanish club that went on to enjoy much success that season, though he did concede the result should perhaps not have stood.
“Villarreal had a really good team in 2005,” he explained. “They got to the semi-final that year, so for us to run them close gave you an idea what a good side we had at Everton. It did rankle because we thought we scored a legitimate goal in extra time.”

Valencia explains shirt shift
Antonio Valencia has revealed for the first time why he has reverted back to the no.25 shirt during an exclusive interview with MUTV.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/BB85DCF680EE492A86DCD64405515B80.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,2,1599,898
The winger was outstanding in the 4-2 defeat of Bayer Leverkusen in midweek and scored the final goal after creating Robin van Persie's hooked effort that regained the lead for the Reds.
Ahead of the Manchester derby, Valencia spoke to MUTV's Countdown to Kick-Off show and explained the motivation behind his decision to change numbers. Both David Moyes and Sir Alex Ferguson feel the wide man has benefited psychologically from ditching the no.7 jersey vacated by Michael Owen's departure in 2012.
"I think it turned out to be a very good number for me when I first arrived at the club as I was just given the no.25 more or less," he said.
"But things went really, really well. I played well wearing that shirt so I think it was a decision I came to in the summer. Maybe if I can get back to the form I showed before, why not? It is a good idea to start wearing it again.
"It had been something I had been thinking about for quite a long time. I'd been considering a change back and maybe it is psychological or maybe it is just all about a good-luck symbol, if you like. We get a lot of that in Ecuador, maybe superstition, and l hope it continues and still brings me more good luck this season."
Sir Alex told MUTV on Thursday: "Antonio was back to his best [on Tuesday]. Changing the number of his jersey again - it's amazing how it can affect a player like that.
"Maybe it was a great thing for him to do that. He used his initiative to go back to 25 and was fantastic."
Valencia also confirmed that his celebration on Tuesday night was a tribute to former Ecuador team-mate Christian 'Chucho' Benitez, who sadly lost his life at the tender age of 27 in the summer.
"It was terrible that he passed away a couple of months ago," stated the winger. "He wasn't just a friend but like a brother to me and I dedicated the tattoo to him. That first goal celebration and every other goal that I celebrate hopefully this season, I'll be dedicating to him also. It was just a huge shock to everyone.
I am pleased for him:). Him dedicating the goal to 'Chucho' Benitez was emotional though.

I agree, a win on Sunday would be huge. City and Chelsea have stuttered recently and it would be sweet karma towards those writing United off without a ball being kicked at the start of the season.
The league is not won on paper, but this season will be massive and will be unpredictable as it goes on.
It will be great to see Marouane Fellaini too, he will give us a physical presence that we did lack in Midfield before his signing and hopefully he continues to develop an understanding with Michael Carrick and the other United players.

Boss explains defensive call
David Moyes has explained why he has kept faith with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at the heart of United's defence.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/72111B10C9D346F290B8C92B494C57AB.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,1679,624
The seasoned campaigners have formed the central defensive partnership for the past five games since Phil Jones played alongside Vidic in the Community Shield against Wigan Athletic at Wembley.
Although Jones and Rafael are both close to being available for selection again after injury to provide more defensive options, the boss feels he has made the right call in choosing his most experienced central pairing despite being asked whether it was a fitness risk considering Vidic is 31 and Ferdinand is 34.
"It is something which I'm aware of," admitted Moyes. "I'm sure nature will take its own course in time but I'm quite comfortable with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
"I just felt at the moment that I've taken over a new job and it was important I got a little bit of rhythm. I don't like the word 'rotate', but I will change players at different times.
"I just felt, at the moment, because of the start to the Premier League that we had, my mind was made up that I was going to keep it quite strong in the opening period of it and then see what happens after that.
"Their fitness has been great, the two of them. They felt really good through pre-season and I think they're both enjoying it."

Michael Carrick heaps praise on Manchester United's 'brilliant' newcomer Marouane Fellaini
But the midfield general says he doesn't envy David Moyes and the difficult decision he has to make when it comes to team selection
http://.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2273811.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Manchester-United-v-Crystal-Palace-Premier-League-2273811.jpg
Michael Carrick reckons the Big Fella has had a big impact at Manchester United.
The midfielder has been impressed with Marouane Fellaini’s contribution to the Old Trafford cause since his £27.5m deadline-day arrival from Everton.
Fellaini came on as a second-half substitute against Crystal Palace last weekend before being handed his full debut in the midweek Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.
And Carrick said: “We now have other options with Felly. He brings something different to the squad, which is why the manager bought him, and he has done well in the time he’s been here. Against Leverkusen he was brilliant.
“Now, it’s the big one against City and it’s in these types of games that you want as many forceful players as possible in the side.
“With Tom Cleverley and Anderson also in there, it’s tough for the manager to pick his midfield.”

Love-struck Robin van Persie wants Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United and share glory
“I love to play with Wayne because, for me, he has it all," the Dutch striker says as the Reds rediscover their goal-scoring form
http://.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1887626.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Manchester-United-Premier-League-Winners-Parade-1887626.jpg
Robin van Persie has told Wayne Rooney: “Stay at Manchester United and we can share the glory.”
Rooney’s desire to quit Old Trafford during the summer was partly motivated by his reluctance to play second fiddle behind United’s Flying Dutchman, after David Moyes described RVP as his main man.
Van Persie goes into Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad once again setting the pace at the top of United’s scoring charts after a blistering start to the season.
But Rooney is also at the top of his game – and RVP insists that both of Moyes’ strikers can be makers and takers of goals.
“I am very pleased with how my partnership with Wayne is going,” said Van Persie, who has already struck five times this term.
“We love to play together, you know, because we recognise that we are both very similar players.
“We are both all-round strikers. We both can drop deep and we can both go in behind.
“We have the ability to make a pass – which is what I love – and we can score goals.
http://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2281031.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/CS48017494Manchester-Uniteds-Du-2281031.jpg
“I love to play with Wayne because, for me, he has it all. I think anybody who knows football can see we like playing together.
“As long as we can combine our qualities, as long as we work together and try to improve what we are doing, then I think we can go from strength to strength.
“It goes both ways for us. I really think that, if we can keep growing, keep passing well to each other, then we can end up with a lot of goals this season. And I mean both of us.”
Rooney broke through the 200-goal barrier with a double in United’s 4-2 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen in midweek and is closing in on Sir Bobby Charlton’s club record of 249. Van Persie scored 30 goals last season as United reclaimed the title from City at a canter.
And he rates his last-minute free-kick winner at the Etihad in December as a decisive moment in a campaign which saw the Reds finish 11 points clear of their rivals.
Rooney also scored twice in a 3-2 victory and RVP said: “That goal of mine was very sweet. Winning at City put down a marker. If I remember correctly, we would have been six points behind if we had lost, but we won the game and it was back to scratch.
“It was a massive win. I don’t really care about what it cost City, it was a big moment for us and that’s why we’ll be going there looking to win again.
“The big games are coming quickly now – and that’s just how we love it because we can get into a rhythm of playing an important game every three or four games.
“We are playing well. We are *confident on the ball and everyone is trying to look for that killer pass, which really helps.
“I never think in negatives, but I think that, for both sides, this is a really important game. Even at this stage of the season, you don’t want to fall five points behind.”
Van Persie added: “The only target I set is to do better. I want us to do better than we did last season and, on Sunday, I want us to do better than we did against Leverkusen.
“To do that, we must succeed together. It’s not just about me and Wayne scoring goals, it’s about us all scoring goals.
“I don’t think our wingers scored enough last year. Hopefully, this time they will get more goals. We have got to be threatening from every area of the team – such as Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.”

I am buzzing that Jesse Lingard scored four goals on his Birmingham City debut on his months loan spell from United, i'm so pleased for him because he is a down to earth guy and very likeable with lots of potential and I hope he keeps developing.
I really want him to make the breakthrough at United and believe in his talent/ability to do so.

Hope after Valencia's excellent second half performance in midweek he can get back to being the old, monstrous, Valencia.
Actually feel we can win the league, tbh. I didn't at one stage, as I expected better players to actually arrive in the league. Now they haven't, I reckon we're in there. Provided players stay fit, and our midfield doesn't contain the tripe and average players, we could well do it. That and the fact the league is no where close to the quality it once was.

Feel a right 'effin *****. Stupid bastard gets back to being wank again. His wank shot in the first half summed it up.
Maybe if he changed his number again we'd get another good game out of him.
However, it seems Ashley's talent for diving rubbed off on him a bit. Excellent dive in the second half.
Also, he managed to beat Kolarov about three times in the match. Really sums up how wank Kolarov is defensively.

LOL at point A. So, so true.
It's about time Zaha was given a chance. Along with Nani. As I say, I think youth should be given a chance. Through out pre season each time Zaha, Januzaj and Lingard came on we looked far better. Then Januzaj comes on against Palace and does more than both Valencia and Young combined.

"Bale came to Madrid relatively cheap," Perez told Cadena SER. "Signing the best players out there is Madrid's philosophy and Bale was the best available player this summer. We had been following him for two years.
"Tottenham initially did not want to sell, but when we heard Manchester United made an offer, we tabled a bid ourselves. His childhood dream to play for Madrid eventually proved to be decisive."

Hernandez has had to wait until the end of September for his first start of the season, playing fourth fiddle to Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck.
It must be a source of confusion for Hernandez, who last season scored eighteen goals in just 22 starts. Wayne Rooney scored sixteen in 31. Welbeck two in 23.
Hernandez is on a par with the most clinical finishers in Europe. He has 35 international goals in only 55 appearances for Mexico. That is a better international goals-to-game ratio than Cristiano Ronaldo (43 in 106) and Lionel Messi (39 in 78).

Moyes and United head to Ukraine to take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League this week.
And Moyes has already warned that the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson might be the reigning champions of England - but aren’t good enough to conquer Europe.
Moyes said: “To win the Champions League you have to have five or six world-class players.
“If you look at Bayern Munich, they have five or six really world-class players, and to win it you might have to have that in your squad.
“Look at Barcelona, who had it in the past, and Real Madrid have maybe got it now.
“That’s the level you have to get at to win it. We’ve not got that yet. What we have got is experience and several players who are in that category or close to it.”
What on earth is wrong with this man. So pessimistic. And in public as well. His interviews are just painful.
Nice pick, Fergie.
Moyes makes it incredibly hard to back him when he doubts his OWN 'effin team. Needs to S T F U.

The squad was one midfielder or two away for challenging in Europe. Don't try it. Moyes is the one who wanted Fellaini and deemed him more important than someone like Herrera or even Ozil as a 10 and didn't go for both.
Ryan57
30-09-2013, 01:04 PM
Moyes' attempts at sorting this team were pathetic. Him and Woodward were absolute twats this summer.
Admittedly, Fergie left behind a dire midfield however, Moyes should of fixed it. Instead he failed to do so. Pathetic bids, talking in public about Fabregas (most embarrassing thing to happen all summer was the useless pursuit of Fabregas), and banging on all summer about how good the team was yet now decides it isn't good enough, and is basically diverting the blame from himself.
Its also been reported today that Fergie pleaded with Moyes to keep the staff on. Moyes ignored him. If true, what an even bigger arsehole. Gets rid of good staff to bring in the most embarrassing coaching staff I've ever seen a top team have.
His first three months in charge have been shocking.
Also, what cup competitions are you referring to LK? FA Cup and League Cup I take it?
Edit: The negativity about your own team in public basically sums up how out of his depth Moyes is right now.

Tbf to Moyes..he did want Rene to stay apparently. My main problem was the pathetic window(Woody's fault mostly) and the fact he has ruined a brick wall defensive partnership by playing Rio 20 times a week when it was clear he couldn't do this. Maybe the fact Zaha hasn't been given a go when Young and Valencia have been meh. Still think he will come good, but it is stupid to say he inherited a poor squad. Very stupid. He has no excuses, he needs to figure it out soon and deliver. Match goers have been great to him and I'm sure he will pay them back.

From the Guardian (article on John Beck by Daniel Taylor)
Each to their own, you might think. René Meulensteen, formerly of Manchester United, has a pretty good reputation throughout the game. He is being tipped to replace Martin Jol if there is a change of manager at Fulham and his absence from Old Trafford has been identified as one of the factors to explain United's erratic start under David Moyes.
Yet Per Nielsen was the captain at Brondby when Meulensteen was manager and tells the story in his autobiography about how the Dutchman used to jump out in front of his players and shout "boo!" to prepare them for the noise of the crowd. Meulensteen changed walls from yellow (Brondby's colours) to green "to give the team hope" and there is another passage that conjures up some delightful memories of Gareth Cheeseman's self-motivational speech, into the bathroom mirror of his Travel Inn, before the Microsell '95 conference.
Meulensteen, according to Nielsen, prepared for a European tie against Frankfurt by standing in front of a whiteboard and asking his players to decide which animal they wanted to be. Nielsen went first, mostly to break the awkward silence, and asked to be a snake. Meulensteen did not like snakes. "Snakes are slow animals, we cannot have snakes in our defence, the Germans will outrun us." So Nielsen suggested a tiger. "That's perfect! Tigers are brave, fast and strong. That is exactly what we need from a captain." By the time he was finished, Meulsensteen had a crocodile, a fox, an elephant, a giraffe and pretty much half of Noah's Ark. "We are smart, fast and clever animals, we cannot lose." Nielsen remembers looking at the board and thinking: "We are sending an entire zoo on the field."
Rene. What a legend.

Moyes wants to strengthen
Manchester United manager David Moyes admits he is still on the look-out for top players but is not convinced that January will be the right time to conduct such high-level business.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/AB7B49F0B8B84E0680D1E48ADA899E99.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,377,1752,1026
The Reds strengthened in the summer with the acquisition of Marouane Fellaini from Everton on deadline day and speculation has been rife ever since the window closed that others could follow the Belgian into Old Trafford next year.
As Moyes is impressed with the depth of the squad already at his disposal, he only feels one or two new faces are required to enhance the side.
"Look, the quality of the players here is really top-end," he stated. "They are great players to work with but, undoubtedly, we will, in time, try and make that better - the job is to make progress at Manchester United.
"They won the league last year but I want to try and progress on that, try to win it again and try to win the cups if possible as well. We'll also look to add to the squad if the right players become available."
When quizzed specifically on the prospect of entering the market in the New Year, the boss was happy to outline his current thoughts on the subject.
"I think I'll look at January but I wouldn't want people to have big expectations of what we would sign or do in January," he replied. "Because I don't think January has, in the main, been a great month to sign really at the top [level].
"I think if you're in trouble near the bottom you might [sign players] as you're desperate for something. But where I think we will be with Manchester United is looking for [only] the top players."

Carrick: Adnan has it all
Michael Carrick says Adnan Januzaj can "be anything he wants to be" but doesn't expect the 18-year-old winger, who won United three vital points with two goals against Sunderland on Saturday, to be affected by his match-winning display.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8D2D1D73DDAA4948A0BB83DB54E1865F.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,2,1193,672
Januzaj has impressed in three outings already for the Reds this season, but his first Barclays Premier League start was a step above his past performances.
United fell behind against Sunderland after just five minutes but in the second half Januzaj hit two beautiful strikes to earn United victory.
"He's done it on the big stage now," says Carrick. "It takes a lot of things [to do that on your first start]. He's got so much ability, he's got a great attitude too. He can be anything he wants to be. He's that good, he's got that chance.
"It's just the start for him. I'm sure he's not going to get carried away with it. But his two finishes... the first was on his weaker foot, you would think. His second one was just a terrific volley. We've got a lot to thank him for."
Januzaj played with the fearlessness you expect with a young player, and Carrick revealed that he gave Adnan some half-time advice to be confident about getting into shooting positions.
"I was telling him at half-time to get in the box because there were chances for him," Carrick told Sky Sports. "It was two great finishes, so he's won us the game."
Good praise for Adnan:). I'm sure Adnan won't get carried away and will keep working harder to improve, he seems a humble and nice guy too!

Moyes: United merited win
David Moyes expressed pride at the way his Manchester United side came from behind to notch an invaluable victory over Sunderland.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/840548C887BD41BBBEC5F74EC06FBB06.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,0,821,461
The manager was delighted with the way the champions maintained composure, despite losing an early goal, to find a way back into the game thanks to two wonderful Adnan Januzaj strikes.
Moyes told MUTV: “I was pleased with the reaction of my players to going 1-0 down. I didn’t think we deserved to be 1-0 down, albeit we could have been 2-0 down at one point if it wasn’t for a wonder save from David De Gea.
"I thought we made a real mistake to give them a goal but I thought after that we controlled most of the game, albeit I didn’t think we forged enough chances. We had lots of crosses and balls into the box but nothing really which was telling enough to get us a goal."
Although the manager admitted he would like his team "to have scored a few more goals," he felt the outcome was still a fair reflection of how Saturday's game panned out.
“I thought today’s performance merited a victory," said Moyes. "That was an important thing for me. I thought we merited it. We played with more speed and there was a better intensity to our game."

Moyes hails Januzaj impact
Manchester United manager David Moyes hailed Adnan Januzaj's dream full debut after the teenager scored both goals in the 2-1 win at Sunderland.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/1694050525B340219541A36B14DD24F0.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,45,481,315
The Reds trailed to Craig Gardner's early strike but turned things around in the second half with a couple of superb strikes by Januzaj, his first competitive goals for the club. By starring for the Reserves in their Manchester Senior Cup win against Bolton on Monday, the promising youngster proved he was pushing for inclusion, particularly after not making the long trip to Ukraine in midweek.
"I remember giving Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley their debuts and Adnan is certainly in that quality," enthused the manager.
"Starting Adnan certainly wasn’t a gamble for me. I see Adnan in training every day, I saw him on tour and actually he’s even got better since coming back from the tour. I would have probably put him in the team three or four weeks ago. There were a couple of games when I was going to start him. I just felt that until we got a bit of momentum into our play, I thought we had to wait. As it was, he’s looked as good as anybody in training so I thought he deserved to play.
“His goals were great. Two different types of goals. As well as that, I think he had another two shots in the first half which were very close as well. They were good efforts. His second goal was a great one. The timing of the volley, the technique... I actually really enjoyed the first one. He got hold of it, played it out wide, followed it into the box and ended up scoring from about the penalty spot.
He’s a really good talent but Manchester United will keep his feet on the ground. Anybody who watches MUTV will have seen him play in the Reserves on Monday night against Bolton. And we’ll do that, we’ll try to bring him on at the right speed."
When asked how he will try to manage the increasing media attention on Januzaj, the manager said: “I’ve had that experience with Wayne and one or two other players. We’ll just make sure he’s not treated any different and try not to get the media too hyped up about him. But it’s difficult not to talk about a boy when he puts in a performance like that and he scores two goals. But he deserves it. He’s a really humble boy and grounded boy. I’ve not got too many fears about him."
Januzaj was certainly a big talking point in Moyes' post-match press conference, including the topic of which senior international team he could turn out for. The United youngster has yet to commit himself with a full cap for Belgium, the country where he was born and the team he has played for at youth level.
"I think he’s got a choice of countries to play for, probably three or four," said Moyes. "He’s been called up by Belgium several times and has chosen not to play for them at the moment. He’s wanted by Albania, Croatia and a few others as well. He can play for several countries, including England. I think there is some way he could qualify for England. I think it may have something to do with his residency."

Schmeichel lauds De Gea save
David De Gea's one-handed save in the first half at Sunderland was one of the best ever seen in the Premier League, according to Peter Schmeichel.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/72969E0EF66746C6901AB955C0DF738F.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,91,1845,1128
The stunning save to his right from United's Spanish goalkeeper denied a powerful header from Emanuele Giaccherini, and prevented the home side from taking a two-goal lead.
It proved to be a pivotal moment. After Giaccherini missed an easier chance before the break, the Reds hit back to claim three points through two superb goals from Adnan Januzaj.
Reds legend Schmeichel described the save, saying: "He's got to look at the ball, follow the ball and he has to readjust and come back. This is for me one of the best saves I've ever seen in the Premier League. And it can prove to be one of the most important moments as well. That could be the kickstart."
Reds boss David Moyes continued: "It was an incredible save. We had been playing quite well but at 1-0 down they managed to spring a few counter attacks on us and David made an incredible save. I said it at half time that David De Gea might have kept us in this game with that save."
The timing and context of De Gea's brilliance - at that stage in the match and on the back of United having lost the two previous Premier League games - was not lost on Schmeichel, who told Sky Sports: "This is six games into a new season under a new manager. If you go 2-0 down there, they could have lost the game. It's an important save."
Wow at that praise from a United GK legend for David De Gea! DDG is awesome and he will keep continue to improve and become more world class than he already is at the level he is at right now...

The Belgian-born youngster made the most of his first start in the Barclays Premier League by smashing two superb finishes past Kieren Westwood and earning an important three points for the champions.
Users on ManUtd.com and followers of our official Twitter page @ManUtd had their say and Januzaj polled 86 per cent of the vote to become the runaway victor.
David De Gea, who made an astounding save to keep out Emanuele Giaccherini's header, was second with nine per cent while Wayne Rooney finished third on five per cent.
Former United stars Lou Macari and Lee Martin made the nominations on MUTV.
"I think the first thing about today was it was a shock to everybody that Januzaj was playing from the start," commented Macari. "Everyone was saying, ‘Can he do it for 90 minutes? Will he last the 90 minutes?’
"In the first 45 minutes, I thought he looked like one of our brightest players, if not the brightest player. And then in the second half he scored the two goals. The first goal was brilliant, the second goal was magnificent. He showed that he is certainly a star for the future."
Well done Adnan, thoroughly deserved:).

Jones: We put the record straight
Phil Jones has hailed a battling United display in the Reds’ comeback win away at Sunderland.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/21978A7911DA4C25A33F26A1EFDF7140.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,79,1144,721
The home side belied their status at the foot of the Barclays Premier League table to take the lead after only five minutes through Craig Gardner, but two well-taken goals from Adnan Januzaj, who was starting a league match for the first time, gave United all three points.
“Everyone dug in today, it was a great performance and a massive three points,” Jones declared to MUTV. “We were put on the back foot right from the first minute, and perhaps we didn’t get out of the traps as well as we should have done.
"They were fired up, and perhaps we didn’t expect it quite as much as we should have in the first 10 minutes, but once we got to grips with the game I thought we played some terrific stuff.
“That was the sign of champions out there. When your backs are against the wall and everyone’s raising questions, a performance like that puts the record straight.”
Jones was full of praise for Januzaj following the young Belgian’s outstanding performance, which won him the Man of the Match award from United fans on ManUtd.com and the club’s official Twitter account @ManUtd.
“He’s a massive talent and he’s got a lot of ability,” he added. “If Gareth Bale scores one like the second goal, everyone’s raving about it. He’s a bubbly lad and a fantastic footballer, but he’s a level-headed guy as well. He knows what he has got to do, he has to keep his head down and if he keeps playing like that he is going to hit the heights.”
Key to the turnaround in the Reds’ fortunes at the Stadium of Light was a brilliant one-handed save by David De Gea to deny Emanuele Giaccherini in the first half, a moment acknowledged by the grateful and impressed England international.
“It was a terrific save, and one of the reasons why we got three points today. It was out of the blue, and a great reaction save from David.”

"Against Blackburn, on December 31, 2011, I was on the bench. Ferguson puts Rafael in midfield with Ji Sung Park. Then I gave up. I was really bummed.
Disgusting how Pogba was treated say what you want about Moyes but he gave Adnan his chance(let's be honest if Fergie was manager would be getting ZERO GAMETIME) and is already giving the likes of Lingard more of a chance
Pogba IS EXACTLY what are missing and the way he was treated is quite disgusting

Januzaj signs new United deal
Manchester United is delighted to announce that Adnan Januzaj has signed a new five-year contract to June 2018.

The 18-year-old Belgium-born winger made his competitive first-team debut as a substitute in this season’s Community Shield at Wembley. In his first Barclays Premier League start, he scored both United's goals in a 2-1 win at Sunderland before the recent international break.
David Moyes said: "I'm delighted that Adnan has committed his future to United. He is an outstanding talent and has impressed me consistently since I came to United in July. His balance, poise and ability to beat players is truly exceptional for a boy of his age. It’s great that he recognises that this club, with its tradition for developing young players and giving them a chance on the biggest stage, is the best place for him to be."
Adnan Januzaj said: "It’s a great thrill to be able to sign for Manchester United. Since arriving here I have always felt like this was the right club for me. This season has been great for me – going on the pre season tour, making my debut in the Community Shield win at Wembley and then breaking into the team at Sunderland – it’s like a dream. I want to work hard now and establish myself as a Manchester United player."
So pleased about this:). He has so much more potential to improve and is down to earth too!
Now come on United later!

Moyes' Adnan admiration
David Moyes is excited about Adnan Januzaj's potential and insists he is willing to blood more of Manchester United's young talents.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/F327AE220D044CB79F3FA886DC6CA53E.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,14,967,557
The Reds boss admits he is still unsure where the 18-year-old's best position will be in the future but has paid tribute to Januzaj's attitude and upbringing as he deals with the media glare that has followed his spectacular showing at Sunderland in the last Barclays Premier League outing.
Speaking the day before it was confirmed that Januzaj had signed a new five-year contract at Old Trafford, Moyes told reporters: "He’s a really, really good football player who is going to be able to play in several positions.
"Time will tell what his best one will be. He could arguably be a centre-forward – he’s that good as well with his back to goal but is also very good coming in off the left or right. Maybe he could be a no.10 when he grows with experience and gets better. As you saw with his goals at Sunderland, he’s got a goal in him as well, is a maker of goals and is all-round a very, very good and talented football player.
"I think you’ve got to remember – he’s 18 not 20. Some players play for other clubs that are 18 who are good players but I think, when you play for Manchester United at 18, it’s a big thing."
The teenager's professionalism has impressed the manager as he has adapted incredibly quickly to top-level football but remains grounded.
"He has no problem training with the Reserves or youth team," added Moyes. "He’s got no ego to him. He’s a real humble boy who has been really well looked after by his dad and family. They have kept him really the right way as he’s a good boy and level headed. I think he can handle anything that comes, I really do. Obviously I won’t play him in all the games or use him all the time but we’ll certainly consider using him when we think the time is right."
The overall objective is to continue promoting some of the outstanding talent available within the ranks at the Aon Training Complex.
"I think when I got it, part of this job was to introduce young players," explained the manager. "When we’re in the dressing room area I see Matt Busby’s comment that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough and, from that point of view, that has near enough been the philosophy through this club.
"The last manager put young players in when he had them. If I have got more young ones, I’ll look to play them and I’ll try to bring them on. It’s what they do well here."

Danny relishes home comforts
Danny Welbeck is relishing a run of four home games after a three-week spell away from Old Trafford.

Trips to Donetsk and Sunderland at the start of the month were followed by the international break which was a highly enjoyable one for Welbeck who, along with Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Phil Jones, helped England secure a spot at next summer's World Cup finals in Brazil.
Four consecutive home matches, in three competitions, now lay ahead for the Reds with Southampton first up on Saturday afternoon.
"It’s nice to be back playing at home," Welbeck told ManUtd.com. "Before we went away for the internationals we were away in Ukraine for three days, then at Sunderland and then away with our countries so it’s nice to be in Manchester again for a bit.
"We’ve got four games at Old Trafford now and we want to win every single one of them. It’s really important that we kick on.
"Southampton have done very well and had a good start to the season so we know it won’t be easy for us. They’ll come to Old Trafford with confidence wanting to pick up some points. We just have to focus on ourselves and make sure we’re ready.
"We love this kind of period when the games are coming thick and fast. You just can’t wait to get out on the pitch for every match.
"Everyone is in good spirits," he added, "particularly those who have been away on international duty as a lot of us had have some good results. The focus is on United now though and we can’t wait for the game on Saturday."

Van Persie doubtful
David Moyes has revealed he is concerned about Robin van Persie's fitness ahead of Saturday's visit of Southampton.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/E789ECAF72B14EDD854DD2C91E395395.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,11,685,266
The Netherlands striker was withdrawn at half-time during his country's victory against Turkey on Tuesday and must be a doubt for the Old Trafford encounter with the high-flying Saints.
Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez also need to be monitored after their international exertions and all three look set to face late checks before the return to Barclays Premier League action.
"We've got a few who came back with a few bumps and bruises," the manager told MUTV. "Probably the one we're most worried about is Robin van Persie. Antonio is very late coming back from South America. Chicharito too. They're the ones who always have long-haul flights. But we're a bit worried about Robin and the condition he's come back in. We'll see how he is tomorrow.
"He got a kick in the calf and he came off at half-time in the second game. He had a kick in the calf and he also had problems with his toes as well. We'll see how he is."
Moyes was also quick to pay tribute to van Persie for overtaking Patrick Kluivert's all-time goals tally for the Netherlands.
"It's an incredible achievement and I've spoken to him about it," added the boss. "I think what he wants to do now is go on and score more goals for Holland and do it in the World Cup where it matters. There have been some brilliant Dutch centre-forwards over the years - to be at the top of that list is something special for him."

Rio hails Adnan impact
Rio Ferdinand says Adnan Januzaj has been the shining light of the season so far.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/EE10C15D64DB4E43A20E5CD38D8A7C0C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,6,763,289
ManUtd.com confirmed on Saturday morning that the 18-year-old had signed a new five-year deal with the club. And in an exclusive interview with United Review, Ferdinand discussed how impressed he's been by the youngster's form this term, particularly in the Reds' last game against Sunderland when Januzaj fired United to victory.
"There have been positives about this season with the best one of those being the emerging talent of Adnan," declared the defender. "We saw how well he did in pre-season and he’s taken that into the season and when he’s had his opportunities for the first team he’s done really, really well. Even if he hadn’t have scored [at Sunderland] it would have gone down as a very good performance.
"The manager and the lads at the club won’t let him get carried away with anything and will make sure he keeps his feet on the ground. He’s a really good lad and he wants to be a top player, that’s the most important thing. But he knows he has to work hard to achieve his dreams.
"The best advice I can give him is just to work hard and not let anything get in the way of becoming a top player. He’s got natural ability which is something a lot of kids have and rely on to get them where they want to go. But you can’t just rely on that – you have to work hard and make the right decisions, especially in the early part of your career and make training the be all and end all of your life."

Rooney advice for Januzaj
Wayne Rooney says that Adnan Januzaj will need to be patient following the eye-catching start to his United career.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/C7CFA5B84D2A48B8A539F4B0CB033CE9.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=7,107,1763,757
Two goals in his first Premier League start for the senior side, in the 2-1 win at Sunderland in United's last match before the international break, gave the teenager the kind of debut all young players dream of. It was a performance reminiscent of the one that brought a young Rooney to the world’s attention in 2002, when the then-16-year-old scored a spectacular winner for Everton against Arsenal.
The England international, now aged 27, is one of the senior figures in the United squad and is happy to lend his advice to any of United’s other younger players, but he has particular words of wisdom for the Belgian-born youngster.
“You can help, of course you can, from experience you can tell them what to expect,” Rooney exclusively told MUTV. “Maybe now he might be expecting to play every game, which is not going to happen, but I think he’ll understand that and understand the way he has to come into the team.
“I’m sure he’ll do that and then obviously he has to help himself by performing so it’s a big challenge for him. But we see him every day, he’s got the talent so hopefully he can continue that form for the rest of the season.”
Januzaj’s match-winning performance at the Stadium of Light catapulted the 18-year-old into the spotlight, something that happened to Rooney at a slightly younger age, also while managed by David Moyes in his guise as Everton boss. Within 24 hours of his goals against Sunderland, Januzaj was being photographed while shopping in Manchester, the kind of attention that is part of the modern footballer’s life and something that Wayne has plenty of experience with.
“It’s a change, I’m sure. Some people enjoy it, some don’t,” added Wayne. “I don’t know what he’ll feel over it, but I’m sure he’ll get tired of it and he’ll want to be left alone. But it’s great, he deserves that attention for the way he has started the season and certainly for the two goals at Sunderland.”

Fellaini op delayed
United manager David Moyes has confirmed Marouane Fellaini will have to undergo surgery to correct a recently sustained wrist injury. However, the Scot stated the Reds intend to delay the operation while the club doctors decide on the best cause of action.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/3142FEAECA01470E9DCDFB83400AB330.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,75,1268,547
"Fellaini needs an operation, unfortunately. It's quite a bad wrist injury," the manager told MUTV. "There's a bit of bone and ligament sticking out but we've been told we can get away without operating for now."
The Belgian midfielder's injury threatened to leave United short in the middle of the park with Tom Cleverley also picking up a calf injury, but the boss is confident the club will be able to put off the procedure for as long as possible.
"We can put it off for as long as two years. It's not in desperate need of doing, but it's whether he feels okay to play or not," Moyes stated.
Fellaini is likely to play in the intervening period between his operation, wearing strapping on his hand in order to avoid exacerbating the problem. However, Moyes is wary that a degree of care and attention needs to surround the Belgian's injury if he is to continue playing.
"Obviously you use your arms quite a bit to hold people off in the game and it's important that we make sure his wrist doesn't get any further damage."

De Gea tipped for the top
United goalkeeper David De Gea will go on to become one of the best in the world, says Reds boss David Moyes.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/3D928E222E994E679A5720B6AE2F1F15.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,1292,481
The Spanish stopper bore the brunt of criticism from some quarters following his move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011, but he is now established as United's first-choice as the last line of defence.
Having shared goalkeeping duties with Anders Lindegaard throughout the first half of his maiden season in England, De Gea's increasingly assured performances saw him become one of the first names on the United team sheet. His save to deny Emanuele Giaccherini at the Stadium of Light proved to be a turning point in United's recent 2-1 win over Sunderland, and was hailed by Peter Schmeichel as "one of the best seen in the Premier League."
Still a couple of weeks short of his 23rd birthday, De Gea is now approaching 100 appearances for United, and the manager is convinced the keeper will be adding more to the Premier League title he won with the club last season.
"I think David over the years has come in here and proved himself at Manchester United," Moyes declared. "Sir Alex brought him young and played him at a time when it could be difficult to play a young goalkeeper. Goalkeeper and centre back these days are two of the hardest positions on the pitch for a young player. Manchester United doing that over the last couple of years has shown what you can get.
"He is a top goalkeeper. He will go on in time to be one of the best there is, I have no doubts about that. He's still young for a goalkeeper, people will be looking at him for the next 10 years."
DDG is simply awesome:).

Rooney can be main man
Wayne Rooney has been in fine form for Manchester United this season and Reds boss David Moyes says it is no surprise to him that the United no.10 has been the main man for club and country in recent weeks.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7D6AE1B563CC48D1BE17073602B252F8.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,66,1317,555
Rooney scored in both of England's recent international matches, against Montenegro and Poland, helping to secure his country's qualification for the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer.
That is a continuation of his strong performances for United so far in 2013/14, in which he has scored five goals and already edged past the 200-goal mark for the club.
At 27, Rooney is at his physical peak and so his form is to be expected, according to Moyes. "I think he's at the age in his career where he would be one of the main players and he's certainly a main player for Manchester United and England," he told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"From that point of view, it's what you'd expect," he added. "He takes responsibility, scores the goals that are required and he's done that from a young age. The age he is now, he's got that maturity and it shows in how he plays and the condition he is in with the way he is playing for club and country.
"I saw Wayne on that first day of pre-season and yet you people [the press] were telling me you felt differently. I saw him in great form and great fettle, training fantastic from day one, but you want to say different things."
Indeed!

Boss assesses United injuries
David Moyes is hoping that the injuries sustained by Jonny Evans, Rafael and Tom Cleverley are not serious after all three were withdrawn at the interval at Fulham.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/B3B7CD117865472795244E1D86FE7D86.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,284,1550,857
The United manager was forced into a triple change while Patrice Evra was also carrying a knock in the second half as the Reds ran out 3-1 victors in the capital.
The reorganisation led to Antonio Valencia switching to right-back and the home side made a fight of things in the second half after trailing by three goals inside 22 minutes.
"It was three injuries," confirmed Moyes to MUTV. "Actually, we had four with Patrice Evra taking a knock just before half-time.
"Jonny Evans' back seized up, Rafael has gone over on his ankle and Tom Cleverley had double vision.
"It's the first time I've ever had to make three [substitutions] at half-time. Sometimes, maybe the team in the past has not played well and I might have had to do it but it certainly wasn't because of that today - it was down to injuries. I just have to hope they are okay."
Moyes admitted the hosts enjoyed the better of the second half after being blown away in the first period.
"I've got to give Martin Jol's team credit as they came out well in the second half," he stated. "If you're losing, as a manager you want a reaction from the team and he got that.
"We had to weather it a little bit and they had a few chances. The changes we made disrupted it a bit as it's difficult to bring on three but I think Valencia played really, really well at right-back and might have been our best player in the second half."

Moyes hails 'blistering' start
David Moyes hailed Manchester United's blistering start at Craven Cottage as the champions blitzed Fulham with three goals in the first 22 minutes.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/2A6445FA984D4982BFA6E10D07CBE792.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,343,3000,1457
The manager feels Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney's partnership really clicked and was impressed by the way that his forwards upset the home defence from the outset during the 3-1 triumph by the Thames.
"We're delighted that we picked up three points as it's never easy at Craven Cottage," he told MUTV.
"It was good, especially the opening 20 minutes, as we got off to a blistering start and the boys put us in a great position. We looked like we were ready to really rip them apart at times. We scored three and created a number of other moves that could have ended up in goals so I've got to say I was really pleased with that part of the game."
Van Persie and Rooney both got on the scoresheet again - the fourth time that they have netted in the same game under Moyes.
"It [the partnership] has already developed because they've been here so long," explained Moyes. "It can take time but I thought there were signs today that they were really clicking.
"I think they created a goal for one another. It was great. Anyone who has been a centre-forward, you’re always looking for your partner to do well and they both did that today, they worked really well together, especially in the early part of the game."

Chicha enjoying new era
Javier Hernandez is enjoying life under David Moyes at Manchester United after making an "easy" adjustment to the new manager's methods.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/7B6E02A8BC784D95A3C630FAF784DDC7.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,89,775,376
The Reds are now on a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions ahead of today's trip to Fulham, with Chicharito contributing two goals in his last three games.
"It's easy [to adapt] when he’s a good person and a good manager," the Mexican striker told MUTV. "I think he is getting used to the club. Everton is a very important club in this country as well, but with the history and tradition at Manchester United, he needs time to get used to it, to find that rhythm to get good results and start winning titles."
Chicharito found himself on the fringes of the first team earlier in the campaign after missing pre-season due to international commitments with Mexico. After his recent return to the teamsheet and scoresheet, he wants to play a bigger role and help United rise up the table. "I hope that I can get more minutes now," he added. "I always want to play. I want to contribute as much as possible."
The forward feels his contribution shouldn't be solely about finding the net though, despite his consistently impressive strike-rate. "I never play just to score goals. I'm not obsessed with scoring goals. If you score goals in any position, it gives you a lot of confidence - and that [applies] a little bit more when you're a striker. But I just want to improve day by day as a footballer, as a professional and as a person. That's the most important thing to me in life.
"When the goals come, I'm going to be glad. But even if I don't score, I still need to get my confidence up and my sharpness, and work to help my team-mates win games."
I am pleased for him:), hope he features against Real Sociedad after not coming on at all vs Fulham today.

Rooney is captain material
Manchester United manager David Moyes believes Wayne Rooney could be a future captain of the club.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/6DDE859A9282485BB8BCD114059E2269.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,34,1530,603
The striker has worn the armband on occasions over the years and skippered the team in consecutive fixtures this season against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup and West Brom in the Barclays Premier League.
Nemanja Vidic is the club captain with Patrice Evra his deputy but there are a number of big personalities at Old Trafford who are capable of leading by example. "I think Wayne has always had the ability to be a captain," explained Moyes. "He’s got that love of football as the biggest thing because he loves the game and loves the ball and kicking it around. He’s a natural and, in his own way, leads by example in what he tries to do. In future years, he could be the skipper here.
"I don’t see any reason to change it [the captaincy]. I’m happy as they work very well and I see Vida, Evra, Rio [Ferdinand] – all the experienced boys – are great behind the scenes. All, in their own right, are really good captains. Vida wears the armband but I use them all for their guidance and experience."
The boss was also asked if Rooney and Robin van Persie form the best strike partnership in the league with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge currently proving a lethal combination for Liverpool.
"I think Wayne and Robin on their day will be a match for anything anywhere in the world," he responded. "Not just in this country. When they are firing, I think they are the best. I really do. They are both incredibly talented, natural goalscorers."

Moyes hails key win
After Robin van Persie's first-half header moved United to within five points of Premier League leaders Arsenal, the importance of the victory was not lost on manager David Moyes.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/5D266E0304084C9DA517271F64E61289.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,91,1530,659
Despite a series of slips for the Reds' traditional title rivals over the course of the weekend, it was Sunday's narrow victory over the table-topping Gunners which ensured some headway was made in the champions' bid to return to the summit.
“This was a big result for us today," the boss told Sky Sports. "Arsenal have been in terrific form and we had to play well to get the win. I didn't think anyone was ever going to run away with the league.
"I think there will be a lot of ups and downs, it’s a close league this year and there will be a few shocks. We had one or two ourselves in the early part of the season, but I’m pleased that we’re showing a bit of consistency and momentum. Let’s hope it continues.”
United's all-action approach to the game wrested control from Arsene Wenger's side for the majority of the first period, but in the second half it became a sustained display of defensive fortitude - and nerve-shredding misses from United - to close out the victory.
“I thought we started the game well, and were very good in the opening 20 or 30 minutes," said Moyes. "In the end, I thought determination, effort and good play helped us in the second half when we were under more pressure.
“I thought we did that [restricted Arsenal] much better in the first half. We gave them a little bit too much room in the second half. But in the first half, we used that and made some opportunities. I actually think that our best opportunities came in the second half, and we didn’t take them. Overall, it’s three important points."

Rooney voted star man
Wayne Rooney polled almost half of the vote to earn the Man of the Match accolade for the 1-0 victory over Arsenal.

The striker worked his socks off and produced yet another sterling display to help the Reds gain three vital points, while pegging back the Barclays Premier League leaders at the same time.
"Wayne was terrific," former United manager Ron Atkinson told MUTV. "He led by example and, obviously when you have got a great player working that hard, it is a manager's dream."
It was Rooney's corner that set up Robin van Persie's headed winner and the Dutchman edged Phil Jones into third place by a single percentage point.
Van Persie oozed class whenever involved in the game and held off defenders in style while Jones was flawless in midfield in the first half before reverting to centre-back with similar results when Nemanja Vidic was unable to return following the half-time break.
Congratulations to Wayne, well deserved:).

Moyes: Vidic is okay
David Moyes says Nemanja Vidic is “okay” and “conscious” after a head injury forced the United captain off during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/BBBB5D73479D4C2F94FE89823E3B4766.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,18,800,467
Vidic collided with David De Gea in the 45th minute, an incident that resulted in United finishing the first half with just 10 men. The Serbian was then replaced at half-time by Tom Cleverley, who slotted into midfield with Phil Jones falling back to fill the void in defence.
Thankfully, speaking during his post-match press conference, the boss gave a positive update on the fitness of Vidic and explained the 32-year-old will now undergo a scan.
“I didn’t see the incident at first,” Moyes said. “From the touchline, I thought it was just a clash but I’ve had a chance to see it now and he took a terrible blow. But as far as I know, he is okay. He is conscious, he will get a scan and we hope he will be okay.”
Glad that Vidic is OK!

Carrick doubtful
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is a major doubt for England's friendly internationals against Chile and Germany.

The 32-year-old returned to the Reds' side to contribute to a fabulous 1-0 success against Arsenal at Old Trafford after missing the matches with Norwich City, Fulham and Real Sociedad due to an Achilles problem.
"I have been carrying the injury for a few weeks now," he admitted after Sunday's victory. "I was a bit patched up to play today. I got through it but it doesn't look too good."
Carrick was one of six Reds called into Roy Hodgson's squad for the two matches with Tom Cleverley, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney also selected. Welbeck has been sidelined since the draw with Southampton last month while Jones sustained a facial injury in a collision with Wojciech Szczesny but was able to continue and played the full 90 minutes.

RvP: We had to win
Robin van Persie has described Manchester United's victory over Arsenal as a “six-pointer” and says that the Reds are now firmly among the title contenders.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/3BB4B6E2EA16444B94FB55EF6674E915.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,249,1628,1163
The striker grabbed what proved to be the decisive goal against his former club and believes that victory was the only option during Sunday’s blockbuster encounter.
Speaking to MUTV, Van Persie said: “We could have been 11 points behind, so now we’re in a good position. It was a big win, a real six-pointer. We are right in the mix, which is what we wanted. We knew what the other teams had done before us, and realised that it was a must-win game. I always think positively, and I’m thankful that we did that today.”
The Dutchman found the net from a Wayne Rooney corner with 27 minutes gone and was subsequently full of praise for his strike partner, who was later named Man of the Match by United fans on ManUtd.com and Twitter.
“It was a good corner from Wayne. After I made contact with my head, I think it brushed my shoulder, but it didn’t really matter. It was a good goal, and I’m very happy to have scored. Wayne is a great player, and he worked really hard, as everyone did today. I don’t think it is enough for a couple of individuals to play well, I think you need to be strong as a team, that’s what we did today.
“The fans were incredible, they really lifted us and were the twelfth man. Since I’ve been here, they have been absolutely unbelievable, so thanks again to them.”
Van Persie scored in both games against Arsenal last season following his move from the Emirates and believes they pose a different challenge to United's other domestic rivals. Asked about facing his previous employers, the 30-year-old said that it was vital to employ the right tactics.
“It is different because of the way Arsenal play. They have a really specific way of playing, which I know of course, so you have to play a slightly different game to beat them. I think we did that today, we did really well to close everyone down. If you look at Patrice Evra, who went for every single ball, even the forward players did that. It makes a big difference.
“I think we did well in the second half though, we were under a bit more pressure without conceding many chances. We had two big opportunities; one for Wayne, and one for Chris Smalling. It wasn’t a game of many chances, but one of tactics, and we had the right attitude"
Well said RVP and thank you for that awesome celebration:cool::worship:.

Rooney enjoys victory
Wayne Rooney feels it has been a weekend to remember for Manchester United as he sets his sights on usurping Arsenal at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8A41DC1BBCEB4F4D90F06C74D125DF22.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,1,1980,1476
The Gunners sit five points clear of the Reds after Robin van Persie's first-half header elevated the champions to fifth place in the table. With Chelsea fortunate to grab only a point against West Brom and both Tottenham and Manchester City slipping to surprise defeats, things are looking much rosier for David Moyes' side ahead of the latest international break.
Although there are some tough away fixtures on the horizon, Rooney is convinced United can strive for the summit by the turn of the year.
"It's a great result," he told Sky Sports. "Arsenal are a good team and we knew we had to win today at all costs. I think it was the toughest we have been to play against and to break down. We defended really well and, thankfully, Robin got the goal for us. It was a great effort by everyone.
"We knew we could not afford to lose today and let Arsenal get 11 points ahead of us. With the other results today, we knew a victory would put us right back in there and in a great position.
"It has given us a massive lift and it's a great weekend for us going into the international games. We'll all go off to play for our countries and then come back as we've got a big push then until the New Year. That's our aim - to still be up there and maybe top or in or around there come the New Year and then, hopefully, we can kick on."

Evans savours atmosphere
Jonny Evans felt the atmosphere throughout United's victory over Arsenal was one of the most memorable he has sampled at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/EE18B92F2FAC4FFBB012FDD089A4EEB7.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,70,1193,741
As David Moyes' men forged ahead through Robin van Persie's header and dug in to secure the three-point haul, the home supporters soundtracked the afternoon in raucous fashion, drawing praise from Evans for their part in events.
“I think that’s the best atmosphere I have heard at Old Trafford in a long time, other than against Real Madrid in the Champions League last season," the Northern Ireland international told MUTV. "Right from the start, the fans were very loud and it was a really enjoyable game to play in. The tempo of the game and the spirit that it was played in was very good."
Had United lost to the Premier League leaders, Arsenal would have held an 11-point lead over the reigning champions, and Evans admits reeling in Arsene Wenger's men was imperative.
“The result was important, especially with Arsenal being top of the league," he admitted. "Apart from Liverpool, the other teams around us have slipped up, so it was big in terms of the points. It needed to be a good performance to beat Arsenal, and it was.
“We got off to a bad start [this season], but we talked about it, and we want to be within touching distance of top spot by the Christmas period. We know that we always finish the season well, we’ve got experience on our side and we’ve got history at this great club, so we’re in a good position.”
Evans starred at the heart of United's defence alongside Nemanja Vidic and latterly Phil Jones, after the Serbian was withdrawn through injury, and he conceded that a solid defensive performance was vital to the champions' hopes.
“We always want clean sheets," he said. "We defended collectively and I thought that our team shape was very good today. It was great in the first half and obviously Nemanja got injured, but Phil Jones stepped in and he’s a natural centre-back, so we defended as normal. We held on well as a team. We limited them to very few chances."
At the opposite end of the field, Wayne Rooney's all-action display elevated him to clinch the club's official man of the match award. After the latest in a growing list of outstanding outings this term, Rooney is, according to Evans, operating at full tilt.
"I think his energy is about as much as you'll get from him; he worked his socks off," said the defender. "He looked sharp and he's been doing that in training quite a lot, committing players and going at them, and he put that into practice today.
"It really helps us a lot. He needs to be involved in the game, he likes to be the main man on the ball, and he enjoys getting back to make tackles. That’s what he thrives on, and as we’ve seen today, if he puts the effort in, we get the reward for that."

Neville lauds victory
Phil Neville has described Sunday’s 1-0 triumph over Arsenal as a “small stepping stone” towards United’s long-term goal of retaining the title.

Robin van Persie’s 27th minute header decided the match at Old Trafford and saw the champions cut the deficit on the leaders to five points. Victory was also supplemented by Manchester City and Chelsea both dropping points over the weekend.
As a result, the Reds are beginning to build momentum ahead of the busy winter schedule and Neville, who won six Premier League titles during his United playing career, is content that things are moving in the right direction.
Via Twitter, he said: “These games against the top teams are always tight, cagey affairs but I thought we defended really well. We created the best chances in the game. These games are decided mainly by set pieces. It was a great ball by Wayne and a fantastic header by Robin to score the winning goal.
“We had chances in the second half to maybe score two or three more goals. It was a good victory and a small stepping stone towards where we want to be, which is top of the league. If we can go into the January/February period within touching distance I think we'll be in a great direction.
“We're headed in the right direction. We can maybe relax a little bit this week and get ready for the Cardiff game, which is in a couple of weeks.”

Keane trains with England
Will Keane has linked up with the England Under-21 squad to train with Gareth Southgate's youngsters.

The striker is not expected to be considered for selection against Finland and San Marino, despite Tottenham forward Harry Kane pulling out through injury, as he continues his bid to regain full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Keane has performed well for United's Reserves and Under-21s but was forced off the field after only a few minutes against Stoke City on Friday due to a head wound.
"I’ve invited Will along to join us for training this week and it’s great to see him back," Southgate told TheFA.com. "He suffered the injury when he was playing for England last year, so I’d like him to feel that he’s in our thoughts.
"He’s back playing for United now, so if this can help him in his rehab and help him get re-acquainted with his England squad mates then we’re more than happy to help."
Keane, whose twin brother Michael is also in the squad, revealed to ManUtd.com that he was in Southgate's thoughts during the previous international break.
"England got in touch with the club for the last games and asked about me but, at that point, United wanted me to focus on being here and getting the work out of the training," he stated. "Which is fully understandable.
"Mike has worked with Gareth Southgate, the new coach, and says it's been really good so far and he's enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to getting involved in that set-up as it's another stepping stone and a chance to prove myself."

Tom Cleverley believes Manchester United are 'back in the mix' after Sunday's win over Arsenal lifted the champions to fifth place in the Barclays Premier League table.

The Reds are now five points adrift of the table-topping Gunners and only a point behind Chelsea going into the international break. Manchester City sit further back in eighth place following their surprise reverse at Sunderland.
Cleverley came off the bench at half-time to replace Nemanja Vidic and played his part in a dogged performance that yielded a fine victory, courtesy of Robin van Persie's header.
"Going into the game and seeing the weekend's results, we knew it was an extra-important three points," said the England international. "We managed to grind it out in the end with a great defensive performance. We had some more chances to seal it.
"We didn't want Arsenal to go 11 points ahead of us. This gets us right back in the mix and gets our confidence up. This is a big win for us as we are ahead of City and not far behind Chelsea. We have also played some very tough games out of our opening 11 fixtures.
"I am sure we can get a run together and get right up to the top. It is what everyone predicted at the start of the season - everyone is improving and it makes for a really competitive season."

Henriquez strikes again
Manchester United's Chilean forward Angelo Henriquez netted his fifth goal in ten appearances when he opened the scoring in Real Zaragoza's 2-1 defeat at home to Numancia at the weekend.
http://www.manutd.com/~/media/D6F8D7958B78442AB1DA7A156979EADC.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,118,600,342
The striker bagged the opener for the home side on 53 minutes when he unleashed a stinging volley, leaving Numancia keeper Raul well and truly beaten. Unfortunately for Henriquez, his departure from the proceedings on 71 minutes was followed by Zaragoza losing their way and conceding two late goals.
Elsewhere, Nick Powell continued his fine form for Wigan Athletic, featuring in their 1-0 away win against Yeovil Town. The midfielder almost added to his five goals so far this season when he had an early shot cleared off the line.
In League One, two United players came close to facing off in Blackpool's clash with Ipswich Town. Tyler Blackett, as it turned out, was an unused substitute for the Seasiders whilst Ryan Tunnicliffe played 90 minutes for the Tractor Boys in their 3-2 win. Meanwhile, Belgian defender Marnick Vermijl started in NEC Nijmegan's 3-0 defeat to Eredivisie champions Ajax. Despite the 3-0 reverse Marnick gave a good account of himself, working tirelessly down the right flank in both defence and attack.
Jesse Lingard and Bebe also featured in recent fixtures for their respective loan clubs. The former played the full 90 in Birmingham City's 3-1 win away at Huddersfield Town while the latter was substituted on 81 minutes in Pacos de Ferreira's 0-0 draw with Arouca. However, Bebe was not involved in the subsequent 2-0 defeat to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the Europa League.
Another Reds loanee, Davide Petrucci, did not feature in Royal Antwerp's 2-1 win over White Star Bruxelles.

James learns from Evra
Manchester United youngster Reece James has plenty of role models to admire as he aims to make his mark at Old Trafford.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/FFE1F01C791A45D18ED46049BA5C625A.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,1,1650,926
The 19-year-old left-back has been gaining fresh experience in a midfield role for the Reserves and Under-21s of late but admits he analyses some of the world's top performers in his preferred position. Reds star Patrice Evra and Barcelona defender Jordi Alba particularly impress the teenager.
Furthermore, older brother Matty, who also also came through the ranks at the Aon Training Complex and is now with Leicester City, has also been a major help to his career.
"I go and watch Patrice Evra and other players in different countries," James revealed to MUTV. "I like to watch Jordi Alba a lot. He is a very attack-minded full-back who can defend as well. I just want to become the best I can be.
"Matty is a massive influence on my career. I remember watching him when I was 10 years old and I still watch him now he's at Leicester. He watches my games, either on MUTV or live, and tells me where I can improve as a player.
"He's helped me at left-back because you can have similar attributes to the midfield position. I was trying to do better than him but, at the same time, it was very pleasing to see what he was doing, like captaining England [youth side] at Wembley. It was a great day for all the family to watch him there."
The younger James sustained an injury during a loan spell at Carlisle United that cut short his stay with the League One outfit in September but he gained more valuable experience.
"I hit a cross from quite deep and felt a tear straight away," he recalled. "It was a grade-two tear in my thigh that ruled me out for eight weeks. At the same time, Carlisle didn't have another left-back so they had to go and get someone else.
"I'd not watched much of that league and it actually surprised me how teams tried to play football. I thought there would be a lot of long balls and easier to deal with but it was actually a lot harder. Teams are straight in your face and it was a lot quicker.
"I realised in the Capital One Cup game with Blackburn that all the kicks were coming to my side so I knew they were targeting me in the air. It was a big learning curve.
"[Off the pitch], I was living with three other lads who I didn't know so I had to get to know them. I couldn't cook so I was on the phone to my mum at the same time to get some recipes and things like that! I think it's important as, at some point in your life, you will be moving out from home and it's helped me in doing that and living away from my family."
United are not in Under-21 action again until next month's away fixture at Blackburn Rovers following Friday's home reverse to Stoke City.

Nemanja Vidic was released from hospital on Sunday night after suffering concussion during the Barclays Premier League victory over Arsenal.

The Manchester United captain was hurt in a collision with David De Gea towards the end of the first half and failed to re-emerge following the interval.
Manager David Moyes revealed that the Serbian would have a scan on the injury after looking dazed as he left the field.
Phil Jones slotted in at centre-back with Tom Cleverley coming on as a substitute and playing in midfield.
United's next outing is on Sunday 24 November at Premier League new boys Cardiff City.

Jones: Reds answered critics
Phil Jones thinks Sunday's victory against Arsenal proved a few doubters wrong as Manchester United closed the gap on the Gunners to five points with a hard-fought 1-0 success.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/28348CDA9A6C4750B85BDF2B18C4603B.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,100,2044,1622
The England international started the game in midfield before reverting to centre-back after Nemanja Vidic was injured. Outstanding in both positions, the 21-year-old reckons a number of pundits were waiting for the champions to fail, particularly after the Reds' slow start to the season.
"It proves when people doubt us, we are more than capable of standing up for ourselves and proving to people that is why we were champions last season," Jones asserted to PA Sport. "We weren't champions for nothing. We thoroughly deserved all the points we got last season. This is a step in the right direction going into a busy period.
"People want us to fail because we have won the league so many times. United won the league long before I was here. Everyone hates the best clubs, it is as simple as that. We enjoy that and relish the test we get thrown at us week in, week out."
Jones feels the Reds merited the win over the Gunners despite having to defend for long periods of the second half.
"Everyone put in a shift and dug deep," he added. "We thoroughly deserved the three points. The gaffer set us up in a certain shape all week. He went round individual players and prepared us really well. It has shown that has worked.
"It was one of those games, no matter where you play, it was just a great game to be involved in. It was a feisty affair with tackles flying in and the crowd were up on their feet. When you get a win like that, it just makes it ever so sweet."
Well said Phil!

Great news from Friday:).
Carrick extends contract
Manchester United is delighted to announce that Michael Carrick has extended his contract to June 2015 with an option to extend for a further year.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/F51435BD832D4AD98387E1496C7D071C.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=0,50,768,622
Carrick, 32, signed for United in July 2006. During that time he has won five Premier League titles, one League Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and a UEFA Champions League.
David Moyes said: "I am delighted Michael has extended his contract. During my short time at the club it hasn’t been hard to notice that Michael is a great reader of the game and has excellent passing ability. He is an exceptional man and a true professional and it’s great that he has committed himself to the club."
Michael Carrick said: "It is great to extend my contract at this great club. I am really enjoying my football. The club has gone through a few changes and working under David Moyes has been fantastic. I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to achieving more in the future."

Moyes plans for future
Manchester United manager David Moyes says any potential business done in the January transfer window will focus on improving the squad in the long term.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/A471078D965A4F41A7F733B1C285DC7F.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,130,1280,606
Clubs will have one month from the turn of the year to strengthen with new faces but Moyes is not looking to make any ‘quick-fix’ purchases, and would only consider players who can make a lasting impact at Old Trafford.
“The thing about this club is that we always think long term,” he told reporters. “I am thinking how we are going to have a side that is going to be competing in the Champions League and right at the top end of the Premier League for four or five years.
“It has to be a continual building process here. We will continue to look to do that. In any one window you couldn’t change it all around anyway. It takes maybe two, three or four windows to do that. To talk about January and make it sound as if that would be the place where everything is cured and any problems would be resolved would be wrong.”
Moyes added that while he is open to bolstering his squad in the near future, he wouldn’t rush into signings for the sake of it and wants to bring in the right kind of player. “It is not me saying we are not going to buy anyone in January,” he continued. “We are going to try to if the opportunity is there, but they have to fit the right criteria. If not, we will have to wait until the summer and see if we can get them then.”

Players pleased for Carrick
Rio Ferdinand and Anderson have spoken of their delight at seeing Michael Carrick prolong his stay with the Reds.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/88639242AF914F98915703485061B4A7.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,47,647,411
The club confirmed on Friday that the England international has extended his contract until June 2015 with an option to sign on for a further year.
Both Ferdinand and Anderson believe it’s great news for the Reds and are looking forward to Carrick’s return from an Achilles injury in the next few weeks.
“Over the years there are some players you appreciate more when they’re not playing and Michael falls into that category,” explained Rio in an interview with MUTV.
“He’s been fantastic for us over the years. Unfortunately he’s picked up an injury right now but I’m pleased he’s signed for another couple of years. He’s an important member of the team.”
Anderson echoed those sentiments, adding: “Everyone knows Michael is a quality player and so important for the team, and he is someone I learn a lot from.
"He is so experienced – he has played in the Premier League for many years and he’s always there to help the team and all the players. I’m really happy for him and it [his contract extension] is well deserved.”

Moyes eyes Rooney rest
David Moyes admits Wayne Rooney will need to be given a rest at some stage soon having featured in the majority of games for club and country this term.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/E9D3B7A971DB4826BAFB5255ACBC3185.ashx?h=179&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,19,1024,399
The striker has been in fantastic form with former boss Sir Alex Ferguson labelling him Manchester United's player of the season so far. Few would disagree, but Moyes insists the intensity level at which Rooney plays means he'll eventually need to be given a break, particularly given his recent exertions for England as well.
Moyes admits he would have preferred the 28-year-old to have been afforded a rest during the international friendlies earlier this month, but can fully understand why England boss Roy Hodgson wanted to play his talisman.
"I expected Wayne to play both games, maybe not quite as long, but I know the way Wayne is at the moment - he wants to play every match," Moyes told reporters. "I was hoping we could have got him some time off, but obviously Roy has to pick his teams and these games were important for him. I respect that. Somewhere along the line I'll need to give Wayne a breather, but I don't know when that will be at the moment.
"Maybe in the next two months or so I might be able to get an opportunity to give him a little bit of time off because his effort and his work-rate is incredible. We've been seeing the Wayne Rooney we all enjoy watching but we can't run him into the ground all the time.
"I do think he is a better player when he is playing," added Moyes. "That's why at
the moment I'm not absolutely disappointed that he played the [England] games. But I think the level he plays at, the distance he is covering and the energy he uses means we would be wrong if we didn't, somewhere along the line, give him a rest."
The United manager has been delighted with Rooney's performances this season and says he will manage his game-time as best as he can in order to get the best out of the forward across the course of the campaign.
"We've left him out of the odd game and said to him sometimes 'we won't start you in this game, we'll keep you on the bench,' but he has been integral to most things we've done so we've needed to use him nearly all the time," explained Moyes.
"We don't want his form to dip, we want him to keep that up, but we'll have to keep an eye on things. Wayne will understand that. I think he thinks we're doing the right things with him and he would trust us to make that call at the right time."

Boss hails ageless Giggs
Ryan Giggs has received an early 40th birthday present in the form of a glowing tribute from United boss David Moyes.

The veteran Reds hero will enter his fifth decade on Friday, 29th November, over 22 and a half years after he made the first of his 951 appearances so far for United.
The Welshman’s latest milestone will follow hot on the heels of United’s visit to his birthplace, Cardiff, for the return to action following the latest pause in the domestic programme to allow for international fixtures.
Giggs has made 10 appearances in all competitions under David Moyes this season, and the boss says the United no. 11 has exceeded his expectations
“The best thing is to say he doesn't play like he's 40 and he doesn't look like he's 40,” enthused Moyes. “He's an outstanding player and it's a privilege to be working with him on my staff but also to have him as a player.
“I’ve seen something different since I’ve come here – just how good he is, close up – and it’s incredible. It will be great for him to go back to Cardiff and I'm sure the supporters will give him a big cheer.”
Giggsy is a legend:worship:.

Moyes: I never doubted us
Manchester United manager David Moyes says he never gave up faith that the Reds would have enough left in the locker to earn a hallmark comeback win over Hull City on Boxing Day.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/8404690C9B6642DDA927B8FE4E2C5EA6.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,239,1193,906
The Reds allowed the home side to accrue an early two-goal advantage during a melee of an opening 13 minutes but thereafter the champions regained composure and, much to the delight of the manager, notched an important win at the KC Stadium.
“I always thought we’d go on and win it,” Moyes told MUTV. “What we’ve got here is the capability and I don’t think there would have been one supporter who thought that the game was over [when we went two down], I certainly didn’t.
“My only concern was Hull’s defensive record here this season, I think they’d only conceded three goals prior to today,” the boss added. “Thankfully, by half-time we were back level and I even thought we should have been 3-2 up by that point.”
Despite Moyes’ evident satisfaction with the result, the manager expressed his want for United to kill off opponents in order to avoid any chance of a late revival.
“When we got the third goal I really wanted the lads to go on and score again and get that fourth goal to avoid the scary moments that we had in the last five minutes.
“I had to change things around as we had a couple of injuries and then Antonio was sent off which made things even harder for us.”
Thankfully, the Reds possessed enough attacking prowess to overhaul Hull’s surprise lead. The second of United's three goals, a 26th-minute volley scored by Wayne Rooney, earned particular praise from the boss.
“It was a great volley," said Moyes. "We know that Wayne’s capable of that and that he can score all sorts of goals. He put the boy under so much pressure in the lead up to the third goal too. He played really well once again.”

Rooney praises fighting spirit
Wayne Rooney praised Manchester United’s fighting spirit after the Reds overturned a 2-0 deficit at the KC Stadium to notch a crucial 3-2 win.
http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell/~/media/B5DC00CA1EA04812B60B0ECEBDB158AE.ashx?h=270&la=ar-SA&w=480&rgn=0,62,2525,1479
After conceding two sloppy goals early on, the champions rallied and restored parity by the 26-minute mark. An unfortunate own goal by former United defender James Chester in the 66th minute ultimately then made it a fine day for the visitors.
Rooney, who notched his 150th Premier League strike for the club, was delighted with the resilience displayed throughout the team.
“We didn’t start well today and when it got to 2-0 [down] we knew that we were going to have to dig deep and show our fighting spirit,” Wayne told Sky Sports.
“We had to come back quick and thankfully we got the two goals before half-time."
The Reds’ no.10, whose sensational first-half strike hauled United level at 2-2, was also asked whether his landmark goal was one of his best ever.
“Probably, but I haven’t seen it back properly yet," Rooney replied. "It bounced nicely for me and I had a go.
"It was a big goal for us at an important time in the game. Once we got the third goal we tried to kill the game off [with another]. That didn’t
happen. But it's a great result for us today."
United's win – the fifth in a row in all competitions – lifted the Reds to sixth in the table prior to the other Boxing Day games beginning.
“We are starting to show some real quality now," added Rooney.
"We’re having a go and we’re fighting for each other. We’re ready for the challenge and hopefully we can surprise a few people.”
Well done Wazza on scoring his 150th Premier League goal for Manchester United! The lads are starting to find a rhythm now and show our quality now the confidence and morale is very high again.

Phil Jones faces around two weeks on the sidelines after injuring his knee.

David Moyes confirmed on Boxing Day, before United's game at Hull City, that the England international had suffered the problem in the 3-1 victory over West Ham five days earlier and said he expects him to be out of action for "a couple of weeks."
The Reds picked up another defensive injury 18 minutes into the match against Hull with Rafael forced off with what looked like a groin injury.
