Fran Merida has reiterated his desire to stay at Arsenal and try and break into the first team after again being linked with a move to Atletico de Madrid.

The Spain Under-21 star reported for duty with the national team and was asked by reporters about his time in England and whether he could be tempted to leave the Emirates.

Atletico are said to be ready to make their move at the end of the current campaign and offer the midfielder the chance to play regularly at the highest level.

Merida has had a frustrating time at Arsenal due to his lack of first-team opportunities but he thinks that he is now in line to become a more permanent part of Arsene Wenger's plans.

"I am committed to Arsenal and I am only thinking of playing there," he was quoted as saying by Marca.

"I feel I am improving every day and the manager is now involving me more in first team training."

Frank Lampard faces three-week lay-off for Chelsea and set to miss Arsenal showdown
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will be sidelined for up to three weeks with the thigh injury he sustained on England duty.

Lampard reported back to Chelsea's Cobham training crowd this morning having left the England set-up in Doha yesterday.

The club's medical staff's early diagnosis is that the midfielder has suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh which will take up to three weeks to heal.

As a result of the injury, Lampard is likely to miss Chelsea's Premier League showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates on Nov 29 as well as their Champions League trip to FC Porto on Nov 25.

He wil also be sidelined for their next Premier League contest at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Nov 21.

Chelsea will hope Lampard recovers in time to line-up for their trip to Manchester City in early December as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Arsenal fullback Sagna rejected Juventus, Real Madrid offers

Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna has rejected interest from Real Madrid and Juventus, it has been revealed.

Both European giants are chasing the France international ahead of the winter market.

But a source close to Sagna told Futbol Mercado: "It is true that Juventus are interested in him, but he does not want to leave Arsenal. Although Juventus are a great club, he's not interested in leaving, because his aim is to win a title with Arsenal, so there will be no negotiation in this regard.

"Are other clubs interested? Sure, I could confirm he was on the short list of Real Madrid when they were looking for a right back. In fact, Real Madrid asked for him, though it was an impossible bargain because he would not leave."

Leaving Arsenal to go Juve would be a backstep.. lol

Arsenal boss Wenger pushing Sunu to pen new deal

READ MORE NEWS ON: Arsenal, Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to secure Gilles Sunu to a new deal.

The Mirror says the teenage hot-shot is making big strides at the Emirates and Wenger wants him to commit his long-term future to the Gunners quickly.

Sunu, who has played in the Carling Cup this season, is wanted on loan by Blackpool. However Wenger insists that he pens a new deal before he goes.

The youngster is out of contract in the summer and Wenger does not want to risk losing him on a long-term basis if he fancies a move elsewhere.

Arsenal's Robin van Persie has admitted he is not an 'out-and-out' striker, which may force boss Arsene Wenger to hunt for a hitman

The Dutchman has found the net eight times already this season and has been in blistering form having been given a central role following Emmaneul Adebayor's departure in the summer.

However, the 26-year-old feels he will never be a traditional striker and believes his assists tally, currently seven, is as important as the goals he scores himself.

He said: "I don't see myself as a true out-and-out striker,

"Guys likes Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba, they are real killers. I feel I play between a target striker and a supporting striker - I am a combination of both and that's just fine.

"I try to bring my own dimension to the forward position.

"In the league I have now contributed seven assists and I am just as proud of these as the seven goals I have scored. I find it crucial to be effective in both spheres for the team.

"The coach (Arsene Wenger) is particularly keen that I add something to the tactical play of the team, both offensively and creatively, that I use and combine with the players around me.

"It is my main intention to help others play. I am also free to make myself more dangerous. It took a while before I had found the balance."

The Gunners only recognised striker who could be considered a 'traditional centre-forward' is Dane Nicklas Bendtner and Van Persie's admission may force Wenger to scour the transfer market for attacking talent. Wenger has been linked with players considered 'out-and-out strikers' since Adebayor's departure, most notably Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh, and the French manager may opt to pursue a traditional target man in the January transfer window.

No points taking this role off van persie with current form.
and Bendtner?
what about eduardo the most natural finisher in the team.

Arsenal are interested in bringing Barcelona’s next big thing Gai Assulin - a former Chelsea target - to the Emirates Stadium, according to The Sun.

Cesc Fabregas and Fran Merida were both products of the Barcelona academy who made the switch to North London, and Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen to add the Israeli winger to that list.

The 18-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters on the European scene and made his full debut for the Catalans in the Copa del Rey at the end of last month.

and

Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure has admitted the chance to join Arsenal would be tempting after becoming frustrated at the Nou Camp.
The Ivory Coast international signed a new contract with the European champions in the summer, but has found himself out in the cold since, starting just four league games this season.

The Gunners were linked with the defensive midfielder in the summer before he agreed a new deal and have once again been mentioned in the same breath as Toure.

Arsenal are keeping tabs on VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic, according to reports.
The 27-year-old has made 45 league appearances for the Bundesliga side since arriving from Nuremburg last summer, and was influential in the club’s title triumph last season.
As a result, the Bosnian international – dubbed the ‘new Fabregas’ is being lined up as a replacement for the Spaniard, who is continually being linked with a move to Barcelona, according to the News of the World.
The report claims that Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger has made Misimovic one of his primary transfer targets should Fabregas seal a return to his former club next summer.
However, the Wolves are unlikely to settle for anything less than 15 million euros for their playmaker, who is contracted to the the club until summer 2013.

Arsenal are set to make a move for Crystal Palace youngster Victor Moses, who is rated as one of the best young footballers around.

Arsenal will revive interest in whizz-kid Moses, after cash-strapped Crystal Palace slashed their
£5 million asking price.

It has been reported that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has tracked the Eagles striker for more than two years, who is still only 19-years-old.

and

Uefa president Michel Platini is working towards legislation which will make it impossible for new owners to take over football clubs and put the debt on the club's balance sheet. That is illegal in USA and most of Europe, but still allowed in the deregulated Wild West of UKplc.

Why now? Maybe because interest rates are very low now. The cost of debt would be low. Although, after three years of inflation, interest rates will go up.

The St Louis Rams are about to be sold and there are four different bids of about $750m. The owners believe the franchise is worth $800-900m. A deal may be concluded in January.

So he could get like 300m +

Good times.

Arsenal are within days of completing a deal to sign Cruz Azul’s 16-year-old Martín Luis Galván Romo in what looks to be a notable coup for the club, according to reports in South America.

The Mexico Under 17 international is being lauded in his homeland as the one of the most promising youngsters to have been developed in recent years with some already comparing him to Brazilian legend Romario. Galván was promoted to Azul’s first-team at just 13 and he made his competitive debut just a year later as an 85th-minute substitute against Monterrey to become the youngest professional player in Mexican football history.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill stunned by Luke Young's decision to snub England

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was surprised by Luke Young's decision to retire from international football.

The Villa right-back, 30, who has made seven appearances for England in four years, told the FA last season he was no longer available for selection.

But the decision only became public this week, when he was asked about his availability ahead of Saturday's Brazil friendly after Glen Johnson returned to Liverpool for treatment on an injury.

Van Persie helps all over, but if he can get the service then Eduardo will score just as many.

Robin van Persie Set To Use Placenta Fluid To Aid Arsenal Return
Dutch forward does not want to be sidelined for long...

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie wants to be back in action as quickly as possible after suffering an ankle injury playing for the Netherlands at the weekend, and will travel to Serbia to undergo radical treatment involving massage from a placenta.

The forward has damaged ligaments in his left ankle and his club have confirmed that they expect him to be out for six weeks.

The player wants to be back before then though, and is prepared to try unorthodox methods in order to speed his recovery.

"I will fly to the Balkans to meet with a female doctor who helped [PSV Eindhoven midfielder] Danko Lazovic," he told Dutch television programme Studio Voetbal.

"She is vague about her methods but I know she massages you using fluid from a placenta.

"I am going to try. It cannot hurt and, if it helps, it helps.

"I have been in contact with Arsenal physiotherapists and they have let me do it."

Van Persie holds no hard feelings about the tackle from Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini that caused the injury, and admits that it could have been much more serious.

"A scan showed that my ankle ligament was almost completely torn off where Chiellini caught me but it was not intentional," he added.

"I was lucky, it could be worse."

Barcelona will offer Yaya Toure and Bojan Krkic to Arsenal in order to clinch the signing of Cesc Fabregas it was reported today.

The Arsenal captain has long been linked with a return to the club he left as a 16-year-old, and reports in Spain suggest a deal will be completed in the summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is determined to hold on to his captain but Barcelona believe that offering the two players, who Wenger is known to admire, plus cash, will be enough to sway the Frenchman.

Both Yaya Toure, the brother of former Gunner Kolo, and Krkic have fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona.

Fabregas has made it clear he has no intentions of leaving Arsenal, but despite this the rumours linking him with the Nou Camp refuse to disappear.

It has also been reported in Spain that Real Madrid could come in for 22-year-old Fabregas with an offer approaching £50m.

Cesc Fabregas has reiterated his desire to win trophies at Arsenal, but also admitted that he does not know what the future holds.

The Gunners captain is currently away on international duty with Spain where fresh rumours have surfaced regarding the 22-year-old.

Reports in Spain suggest that Sandro Rosell wants to use Fabregas as the figurehead of his bid to become the new president at Barcelona, with Joan Laporta set to step down at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper AS also ran an article claiming that Real Madrid were ready to launch their own bid for the former Barca youngster at the end of the season.

The midfielder refused to be drawn on the speculation and insists that he doesn't look too far into the future.

"Now I am very calm and without injuries," he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"At Arsenal I am developing a good season and my dream is to win titles there.

"I have a great responsibility to my club and now is not the time to think beyond that."

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has sympathy for Cesc Fabregas over the constant speculation about his future at Arsenal.

For every international week, Cesc has spent the time denying reports that he will leave the Gunners for a return to either Barca or Real Madrid at the end of the season.

"He has his market value and you must pay a lot for a player of his level," said Puyol. "Even if he does come, I hope we pay only a bit. It is not easy for him to be talking so much because he is with a club, although it is clear that I would like him here because he's a great friend and one of the best players in the world.

Of course you can be upset! But there is being upset, and plain taking it out of proportion. Like I said, it is, what it is, things happen in Football. What, youve never seen someone handle a ball before, and it ends in a gal, or a penalty being denied? It happens all the time. If the ref had seen it, it wouldve been called. Its not like FIFA wants France to advance over Ireland for some odd reason. Its hard to accept, but its football.

And yet again, you're not looking on this from the right perspective. Must I repeat that this was for a place in the World Cup finals, one of the biggest sporting occassions on the planet? And it wasn't just a case of a little handball: watch the replay; he handled it twice for feck sake.

As for FIFA not wanting France to advance to the World Cup, well how do you expain the seeding that they conveniently added to the draw for the playoffs at the final moment? Absolutely ridiculous decision.

And it happens all the time is no justification for blatant cheating that shames the game in front of millions of viewers. This is the World Cup man.

Crap teams as in Slovakia, Slovenia, Algeria, the Koreas, New Zealand etc

Out of all the african teams I ll support Ghana

YOure kidding. Algeria is very good. Unknown by most teams, which means they will surprise everyone, just like Senegal did in 02. They knocked us out as well.

That's not the issue here though. The issue you decided to bring up was whether or not FIFA favoured France in their thoughts concerning the World Cup and that decision proves that they gave the advantage to the teams that they wanted to progess to the South Africa. It was crazy stuff.

Haha! dude, Well unlike the over rated European teams, we dont get 13 participants in the world cup. We got 3, up until 94, when we got 5. And please dont equate yourself to the rest of Europe. Dont compare yourself to France, Germany, or Italy. YOure the second class citizen of the over rated continent.

And another stat for you, only one country has ever won the word cup outside of its continent. And that was Brazil in 2002. Other than that, the host continent has always won.

And guess what? This is the first time its been played in the African continent.

It is fact! FAct is, there has been 18 world cups, and 17 times, the host continent has won . Thats a fact. Which means basically, African teams never had a chance. Until now.
There is a reason why Korea went to semi finals in 2002.

You really don't get it do you? It's called fairplay, sportsmanship - everything that FIFA is supposed to endorse for feck sake.

Henry has been one of the great ambassadors for the sport over the last 10 years or so and he's looked on as a hero and role model by so many followers. This has tarnished his reputation as well as that of the sport itself. He was their captain and he celebrated like a mad fool.... incredible scenes.

And his interview afterwards was absolutely shocking. He discredits himself and the game. Football and FIFA are a joke at the moment following this.

What are you talking about now? Your argument is so full of bias. Ridiculous stuff.

Henry cheated and Ireland have every right to react in the way they have, especially considering what was at stake. This is the World Cup and Henry was well aware of what he did. Cheating and unsportsmanlike behaviour should never be accepted particularly on occassion like this, and I feel FIFA should grow a pair right now and make a stand against this type of behaviour. Henry didn't even apologise for it in the press conference - there's no defending him on this.

He controlled the ball. Not the Irish fans. He tarnished his own legacy. Not the Irish fans. It was his choice to do what he did. Not the Irish fans. And you want the Irish fans to accept it with dignity? How can you accept an undignified act with dignity? It was a huge mistake made by a huge player, in a huge game, in a huge stadium, in front of a huge audience, for qualifying for the biggest tournament of all. Stop trying to trivialize it like it were a backalley game of ****ing poker. Of course it is going to open debate. Of course it is going to make the headlines.

It doesnt matter if its a world cup final I say. Its football, and referees miss calls. England won the world cup on a goal that never crossed the line, during extra time of the world cup final. It happens!
So all of a sudden Henry is scum of the earth? Please. Yes they need to accept it with dignity in defeat.

What's that, you say? Sorry, but that hole you have dug is quiet deep, and all I can hear is echoes.

Of course it matters if it's a world cup event. Are you undergoing lobotomy or something? Of course it happens but it should not happen. Not in this day and age.

Even if you support Henry, the fact that you want us to accept it with dignity is somewhat hilarious, and shows a complete lack of understanding of the concept of dignity on your part.

Nobody will remember this just the bitter fans? There is a little concept in our world called history, you know. People remember and communicate history. This won't be forgotten, like it or not.

This has nothing to do with us being Irish. This has nothing whatsoever to do with race. I'm not asking for a replay. I'm not asking for an overhaul of FIFA management. But the mere fact that he wont admit it was deliberate controlling of the ball, which it was, shows a complete lack of character and honesty on his part. You sure do have some funny ****ing role models.

No, no one gives a ****. Just you guys!
Is that why it's making the news all over the world? If you like Henry, fair enough, but comments like these are going to give people the impression that your a ****ing moron. Now we don't want that to happen, do we?

Setanta's bang on the money with this one. Your completely dismissal of this events importance and unwillingness to accept simple home truths reflects pretty poorly on you.
