Some selections are starting to take place with a few countries now.
With regards to the UK entry, this is what was taken from DS:
On October 6th, the BBC announced an open submission for any artists who were interested in taking part to submit their songs. The short-listed artists were informed no later than November 21st.
Which basically means they are going down the Molly-route again and looking for new/fresh talent and not some washed up has-been from decades ago
I hope you shall all appreciate this xo

The way they picked Jade I think was the best with maybe people selecting their own songs to send in. Either way I think the letting people send in their own songs is the best option for now

Australia taking part officially? Like with an entry and voting and stuff?
Where do they have to be to take part?
To become a Member of the European Broadcasting Area and thus take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, one of the conditions is to be in the European Broadcasting Area. Where and what is it?
The "European Broadcasting Area" is bounded on the West by the western boundary of Region 1, on the east by the meridian 40° East of Greenwich and on the South by the parallel 30° North so as to include the northern part of Saudi Arabia and that part of those countries bordering the Mediterranean within these limits. That is also the reason why for example Israel can take part in the contest.
In addition, Iraq, Jordan and that part of the territory of Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey and Ukraine lying outside the above limits are included in the European Broadcasting Area.

Ummmmmm.......... Why is Australia in????? :/
Loukas
11-02-2015, 03:48 PM
Ummmmmm.......... Why is Australia in????? :/
Q&A's here..
What does this mean?
Broadcaster SBS, which has a long tradition of airing the Eurovision Song Contest in Australia, will send a contestant to Vienna, where the 2015 contest will take place. Their contestant, who is yet to be chosen, will participate directly in the Grand Final under exactly the same conditions as all other participants.
Can Australia vote? And can we vote for Australia?
Despite the time difference – it’s early Sunday morning in Australia while Europe watches the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday evening – the EBU’s international voting partner Digame is exploring possibilities to allow the Australian public to vote in both Semi-Finals and in the Grand Final. Viewers in all other 39 participating countries also have the possibility to vote for the Australian contestant. As usual, no one can vote for his or her own country.
Why does Australia take part directly in the Grand Final, and not in one of the two Semi-Finals?
To not reduce the chances of the current Semi-Final participants to make it to the Grand Final and because of the one-off nature of Australia’s participation, it was decided to add the country to the Grand Final, bringing the total amount of participants to 27, along with 10 qualifiers from each Semi-Final, host country Austria, and the so-called Big Five (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom).
What if Australia wins? Would the contest take place down under?
No. In case Australia wins, SBS will co-host the Eurovision Song Contest in a European city, together with an EBU Member Broadcaster. Their participation is intended as a one-off, but in case of a victory, Australia will be allowed send a participant to the Eurovision Song Contest next year.
Could Australia or other countries outside of Europe take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in the future?
Australia’s Eurovision Song Contest participation is a one-off initiative. But throughout its 60 years of development, new elements have been introduced to keep the Eurovision Song Contest exciting, surprising and relevant to the spirit of time. Who knows what the future will bring, as excitement about this European tradition spreads to other countries around the world?
How and when will Australia choose its participant?
It is up to broadcaster SBS in Australia to decide how they wish to select their entry for Vienna. They will have to do so – like all other participating broadcasters – before the 16th of March, when all entries have to be submitted to the EBU.
Why Australia, and not other countries?
Australia has a long tradition of broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest and a loyal fan base watching the event every year. Broadcaster SBS from Australia is also an Associate Member of the EBU.

Just confirming the UK reveal date for anyone who hasn't heard
London, United Kingdom -
The United Kingdom entry for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest will be premiered on Saturday the 7th of March. The BBC have confirmed that the song will be showcased via their Red Button service, and then available on Eurovision.tv and the BBC Eurovision Website.
Last year the BBC selected their entry via their BBC Introducing scheme, which brings together unsigned and undiscovered music talent. This resulted in Molly Smitten-Downes being chosen, with the song Children Of the Universe which achieved 17th place in the Grand Final.
Open Submission for 2015
For 2015 the BBC announced back in October that they were looking at additional options, including an open submission for entries. Potential artists and composers had until the 7th November to submit videos.
Producer Guy Freeman has said that “Ultimately, one song stood out as having both instant impact and real memory staying power”
Now, after months of speculation, we will soon know the United Kingdom entry for 2015.

Entries i like -
Maldova - Simply made me want to dance from the first 10 seconds. I think it's absolutely hilarious. It reminds me of Liberty X for some reason? Eduaud looks like someone straight out of the 90's - wtf is that hair about. Im excited to see how this is performed, i can see it making the final, easy. (if it's not sung crap on the night) Favourite lyrics - The future that you’re painting, Got me all anticipating, go!
The Netherlands - I'm loving the 'Why? why-ai-ai-ai' part of this song, it's extremely catchy and it's a perfect song for Eurovision. I can just imagine it getting stuck in everyones heads - whether they like it or not. Favourite lyrics - Why? why-ai-ai-ai (this is not a little crush)
Georgia - I love Nina's look first and foremost, she reminds me of Amy Lee from Evanescence. The song is alright, i didn't love it straight away be but it's beginning to grow on me. Favourite lyrics - Oooh oooh, I'm a warrior, still stuck in my mind.
Serbia - The performance was fabulous and i didn't expect the costume change, i liked how they used her as a projector too. Favourite part of the song (as i have not the foggiest clue what she is saying) - Her outfit going from white to red and the song development from there! Also when she hit those high notes, she can sing!
Ireland - The best ballad of the year so far for me, i think Molly is adorable. Favourite lyrics - Oh, while I played with white lies and fiction. Unbeknownst to you, I played the victim. Well that was the last time I pierce you
Latvia - I love how Aminata sings and i think she's absolutely stunning. Love Injected is probably my favourite Eurovision song of this year so far. I think with the right performance and right slot it could win. Favourite lyrics - Show me the source of the light, I’m becoming affected. Seeing the glow of the way, is what I have detected. Seeing it then in my life, It’s so shiny reflective. Love injected, love injected. (don't even know if it makes sense but i love it

Guy Freeman has said this about this years UK entry...
Last autumn, we opened the sparkling Eurovision door to anyone who wished to submit a song and performer for consideration as our UK entry for the 2015 Contest. The result of that open submission process was a very impressive collection of songs, of every conceivable type, that came in from a huge variety of amateur and professional writers and performers. Thank you to everyone who made the effort and got involved.
Some of the submitted songs were easily good enough to be commercial tracks straight away and others had clear potential, so it wasn't hard to draw up an initial shortlist of interesting contenders. What we did next, was consider the strengths and weaknesses of each song in detail, with the realities of the Contest foremost in mind. We also gave the shortlisted writers an opportunity to come back with any further suggestions or refinements which they thought would really maximise the impact of their songs.
Ultimately, one song stood out as having both instant impact and real memory staying power. Everyone is now working hard to get it ready for the evening of Saturday 7th March, straight after The Voice, which is when our UK entry for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed on the BBC Red Button service, bbc.co.uk/eurovision and Eurovision.tv.

Alexandra Burke has denied speculation that she will be heading to the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
The X Factor star was rumoured to be travelling to Vienna, Austria on May 23 after a suspicious Eurovision-shaped gap in her national tour of Bodyguard The Musical was spotted.
The speculation was further fuelled after filming for a Eurovision-related visual apparently took place on March 2, the same day Burke was shooting her new music video.
However, Burke's publicist has since informed Digital Spy that there is "no truth to the story", and that the singer is concentrating on releasing her new EP on March 25.
Burke's new EP - titled Renegade - will touch upon "themes and experiences that I have never spoken out about before," the star recently explained.
"Since the last album, a lot has changed in my life, but most importantly I have changed. I'm in a great place, healthier and stronger than ever."
The UK entry for the Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed on BBC One this Saturday (March 7) straight after The Voice UK.
