He's barely a year old. He's hardly one of the show's front runners. I doubt he was ever meant to shake up the family.

For what it's worth I liked the original Carter set-up too but then if Maddy Hill wants to leave then that's her choice. People come and go. Johnny won't be on-screen until later this year either so it's not like they've been set in stone since day one.

Basically:

Phil trashed the garage and everything fell out.

He then got hold of a digger at the car lot as the key was left in.

Jay and his girlfriend were hooking up in there and Jay went quickly off to get condoms whilst his girlfriend stayed in the car lot.

Phil started destroying the car lot and us viewers thought Jay's girlfriend was in there still.

The car lot got destroyed and it turned out his girlfriend wasn't in there but Phil's daughter (Louise), she got destroyed. :)

At least he's played by a competent actor. I can't take Abi seriously as the local bunny boiler when she giggles her lines and looks all of twelve years old. She actually hasn't aged a bit in the decade she's been in the show.
