If the public know the extent of rapes, sexual assault and violence these people commit, there'd be riots in the streets.

Clearly there isn’t as many as you like to think there is. The far right media would have a field day to clamber to the frothing mouths of the racists.
You guys really do live in your own little worlds.

If you are referring to me I watch the news plus I’ve seen dozens of clips online , on YouTube and on X ..
There’s footage of real concerns / incidents to be seen all over the country.. things look pretty worrisome in parts of England the last place I would have expected to see

Feel free to help Livia out and post the “extent” of the crimes and why it makes it acceptable to tar every immigrant with the same brush.

There are court cases every day...the latest I saw was one migrant who is accused of raping a 72 he old woman and a 74 yr old man.
The stories don't make the news, but now that they are all beginning to come to the court date it has become daily cases in courts all over the country.

I'm not responding to anyone—I'm simply sharing my opinion. Whenever the UK discusses immigration, the same concerns keep arising, regardless of the decade. You often hear familiar phrases: "It feels different around here now," "Are they fitting in?" "I'm not sure about their culture," "Is this good or bad for jobs?" and "Are people playing by the rules?" Although different groups arrive, the worries remain consistent.
In the 1960s and 70s, the focus was on immigrants from the Caribbean and South Asia, significantly influenced by Enoch Powell's speech and Margaret Thatcher's 1978 interview, where she stated that many people felt the country was being "swamped". LINK (https://www.margaretthatcher.org/document/103485#:~:text=With%20an%20election%20in%20prospec t%20and%20the%20polls,future%20relations%20with%20 Edward%20Heath%20and%20Enoch%20Powell.) While attitudes were mixed, those communities contributed immensely to work, culture, public services, and everyday life. Today, this contribution is widely recognised.
In the subsequent decades, immigrants arrived from Africa, South Asia, East Africa, Southeast Asia, and parts of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The unrest in the 80s in Brixton, Toxteth, and Handsworth stemmed from long-term social and economic issues rather than immigration itself. The Stephen Lawrence case in the 1990s highlighted serious institutional problems that were unrelated to the number of incoming individuals.
The 2000s saw a rise in immigration from Central and Eastern Europe. By the 2010s, attention shifted once more—this time to individuals from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and various parts of Africa—with Brexit bringing immigration back to the forefront of political discussion.
Looking at the broader picture, the pattern is clear: while the groups of people arriving change, the concerns people express remain essentially unchanged. This is why today's debates feel so similar to those of past decades.

We need an import of Qualified Workers

They are Legit, paying taxes
and they go home with legit pay.
But Illegal Migrants

Most people agree on one basic point: we want a system that’s fair and actually works. When someone comes here legally to fill needed jobs and pay taxes, it’s simple and easy to understand.
Where things get messy is irregular migration. People arrive that way for all kinds of reasons — some are fleeing danger, some don’t have any safe legal route, and some are following bad advice from smugglers. It’s not one group with one motive, and treating it like a single category doesn’t match reality.
The passport issue fits into that same complexity. Yes, some people hide their identity. Others do it because they’re scared of being sent straight back, and some are told to do it by smugglers. Again, it’s not one tactic used for one reason.
And the France situation isn’t simple either. Both countries have been trying to manage this for years. If there were an easy fix, it would’ve happened already.
At the end of the day, most people want the same thing: a firm, fair system that actually functions. Calm, grounded discussion gets us closer to that than assuming the worst about everyone involved.

Iranian illegal migrant who sexually assaulted a 19 year old sentenced to 7.5 years. If course he'll only spend half of it in jail, then he'll be released on licence. Free to walk the streets once again. Not deported, no. He'll get to stay here and live free on our taxes. His brief said he has little education and doesn't understand the norms of approaching women in the UK. But hey, welcome, right? The victim, deeply affected by her ordeal, has waived her anonymity in order to warn other women.

Jim Ratcliffe
has now told Sky News
He is sorry for his choice of language
"I am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.
"My comments were made while answering questions about UK policy at the European Industry Summit in Antwerp, where I was discussing the importance of economic growth, jobs, skills and manufacturing in the UK.
"My intention was to stress that governments must manage migration alongside investment in skills, industry and jobs so that long-term prosperity is shared by everyone. It is critical that we maintain an open debate on the challenges facing the UK."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s claim that Britain has been “colonised” would almost be funny if it weren’t so pathetic. This is a man who lives in Monaco, pays no UK income tax, and has deliberately distanced himself from the country he’s now lecturing. From the comfort of a tax haven, he fires off dramatic warnings about Britain’s future — and can’t even get the basic numbers right. His population figures weren’t just off; they were wildly inaccurate, the kind of thing you say when you’re more interested in stirring outrage than telling the truth.
And when challenged, he retreats into the oldest, weakest PR move in the book: “I’m sorry if you were offended.”
It’s not an apology. It’s a dodge. It shifts the blame onto the audience for reacting, instead of taking responsibility for making a reckless claim. If he genuinely believes what he said, he should stand by it. If he doesn’t, he should retract it properly. What we get instead is this limp halfway position — bold language on the front end, and a non‑apology on the back end.
So what are we left with? A tax exile in Monaco, misquoting basic data, throwing around loaded terms he refuses to define, and then pretending the real issue is that people were offended. That isn’t leadership. It isn’t clarity. It’s just another billionaire shouting from the Riviera about a Britain he doesn’t even live in.

he also didn't think twice about halving the employees at Man U that were contributing to the country through them actually paying taxTrue. It is an issue for the chairman of a football club to make comments of that nature, given that the club depends heavily on people from a wide range of backgrounds. The playing squad includes individuals with immigrant parents, such as Kobbie Mainoo, and the same applies across the academy, the administrative staff, the wider workforce, and the fanbase.
Because of that, it was understandable that he was asked to clarify or apologise. However, the statement he issued — specifically the line “I’m sorry if you were offended” — did not directly address the concerns raised about his original comments.

I dont think Jim was referring to those who are paid and pay taxes in my opinion he was referring to those who turn up... sit down...and wait for it all to be paid for....You may have a point. For me, the use of the word “colonised” is central to the discussion. The term has a specific historical meaning — one group taking control over another — and that implication comes with it whenever the word is used. By choosing that wording, he suggests a transfer of control or authority, whether or not that was what he intended.
If he meant to make a broader or more general observation, that didn’t come across in the way he phrased it. This is especially relevant given his role at Manchester United, a club that depends on people from a wide range of backgrounds across its playing staff, its wider workforce, and its fanbase.

I forgot to add that the apology itself was very weak. The phrasing made it clear he wasn’t really addressing the concerns raised, and it was easy to see that he didn’t genuinely mean it.

well, the simple fact is, he meant exactly what he said, so an apology means nothing.
I'm still of the opinion that people say what they think, because then you know who you are dealing with, rather than someone putting on a false veneer.

To me, there are people who've chosen to be British, then there are those who come here with their hand out and expect us to change to suit them. They are two very distinct groups of people. I can't imagine a thinking person lumping those two groups together. What stands out to me is that Ratcliffe has had several opportunities to clarify exactly who he was referring to, yet he has not taken any of them. Instead, he has opted for the familiar "sorry if you were offended" line, which does not clarify anything and fails to address the substance of his statements.
The real issue lies in his choice of the word "colonised." This is not casual language; historically, it has always implied one group taking over another. When someone uses it today without specifying who is supposedly doing the colonizing, it is bound to unsettle people. If that wasn't his intention, he could have clarified it immediately, but he didn’t.
Additionally, he discusses unemployment figures, tax contributions, and being "colonised" while overlooking the fact that he has personally benefited enormously from the UK economy and has been described as having an economic migrant status. Given this background, it's somewhat disingenuous for him to frame the issue in the way he did.
This is the core problem: because he has left everything vague, people are now filling in the blanks with their own assumptions. We can speculate endlessly about whom he meant, but we shouldn't have to. He chose his wording, made the claim, and had every opportunity to clarify. He still hasn’t—this is why people are questioning his statements. He used a loaded term and then refused to explain it.

GiRTh

Yep. It was a really strong word to use, and you could hear the interviewer gasp the moment he said it. They clearly understood the weight of that language — the only person pretending it was casual is Sir Jim himself.
He didn’t “misspeak.” He’s a seasoned billionaire who’s spent decades choosing his words carefully. He knew exactly what he was saying, and you get the sense he’s been waiting a long time to say it out loud.

I'd prefer a tax regime that doesn't push successful people out of the countryBut hang on — that’s exactly the problem with what he’s saying. He lives in a tax haven and pays no tax here. No one pushed him out; that was entirely his choice. And the whole idea behind trickle down economics of tax cuts for the wealthiest — which he almost certainly supports — only works if those same wealthy people actually keep their money in the UK.
Instead, he’s taken his wealth offshore, contributed nothing back, and now feels entitled to lecture everyone else about what’s wrong with the country. It’s unbelievable hypocrisy. If he wants to talk about fixing things, he can start by putting his money back into the UK. Until then, it’s all a bit rich coming from a tax exile.

Migrants would be allowed to stay in Britain even if they had made failed
