Will Harry be able to be a Prince again when "if" they divorce?
Denver

what does this mean
I believe Harry is no longer Prince?
And they will have to rely on making their own money I stead of relying on the state.
I guess Meghan may return to acting as she will probaly make big bucks now

They have a personal fortune. They won't need the state money.
Some might say it's a bit disrespectful to his 93 year old Grandmother to tear up the rule book so suddenly, the Palace's statement in response is pretty blunt

This way they get to be like posh and becks.

It's not a surprise really, racists around the UK were never willing to give Megan a chance and it was always obvious that neither of them really liked their royal roles. Good for them for putting their family first.

They didn’t tell anyone they were going to do this? For a couple who don’t want the limelight they seem keen to cause drama, jeez fair enough step back but to announce it with no warning is a right slap in the face

Well said.
Besides the family should scale back and downsize. All these ribbon cuttings can be done by local officials.
Imo only the monarch and the heir should do official duties. And only important ones.
Not surprised Harry and Meghan have been driven to this by the toxicity and the tabloid rags.

You blaming them for that is ridiculous
it's pretty obvious there has been a lot of friction behind the scenes which seems very odd given how close William and Harry have always been up until very recently. I think the Royal family have tried to take their usual approach to solving the problem by basically telling them to shut up and accept their lot and Harry has said nope, not having it. He is his mothers son.

They were in Canada for 6 weeks and no one was any this wiser, there was no speculation as to where they were, in fact they were largely forgotton, they come back, make a public visit to the Canadian Embassy, then a public announcement a day later which has put them back on the front pages, it could all have been handled in a much more low key way and they alone are responsible for that.

Bollox.
Harry never fully signed up to the role.
And you know why? Bc of what happened with his mother.
He said so. He also said he wouldn't stand by and risk the story repeating
He said he could no longer be a “silent witness” to Meghan’s “private suffering”, adding that his “deepest fear is history repeating itself”.
He wrote: “There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this.
“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

In their lengthy list of pronouncements, Harry and Meghan say they will now be spending much of their time in North America, where they've just be lounging on their lazy backsides for six weeks 'much-needed holiday' – a holiday from what, exactly? - at a multi-millionaire's waterside mansion in Canada.
Oh, and they're going to seek to be 'financially independent'.
It's only when you read the details of this 'independence' that you realise what it actually means is they want to live off Harry's dad's money, from Prince Charles and his Duchy of Cornwall – which he only possesses by right of being the Queen's heir.
They have also informed us they intend to continue living for free, when they grace the UK with their esteemed presence, at Frogmore Cottage, their palatial home in Windsor that was gifted to them by the Queen and which has been refurbished to their specifications at a cost to the taxpayer of millions of pounds.
Oh, and they expect to continue having royal protection too wherever they choose to live and travel – at further vast expense to the taxpayer.
And they'll want all the other stuff that goes with that like VIP royal travel.
Fair point

They should pay back the money taxpayers laid out for their wedding, and for the refurbishment of their lavish cottage. They should also ensure that Canada is paying at least half of the expenses for their security. But let's face it, another kid and five more years, and Harry will be back home on his own. See you all here in five years so you can say Livia, you were right.

Nonsense, I find that people are totally rewriting history on this one. This has been on the cards for Harry since he was a teenager, LONG before Megan was on the scene... the idea that some evil cackling harpie has come in and corrupted sweet Prince Harry is just utter garbage. No, she didn't ever fit in with the Royals. No, she isn't Kate. No, it was never going to work. All of which are reasons that Harry was attracted to an American actress and not British Stepford Aristocracy. He was ALWAYS a square peg in a round hole and that's why his partner also doesn't fit. Also, everyone KNEW he wasn't like other Royals and talked about it all the time - even joking(?) that he ws of questionable lineage... and now that's being retconned into him being Perfect Prince Harry until a jezebel knocked him off the rails? :joker: come on.
They should pay back the money taxpayers laid out for their wedding, and for the refurbishment of their lavish cottage. They should also ensure that Canada is paying at least half of the expenses for their security.
The refurbishment I agree. Not the home itself - a gift is a gift, and shouldn't come with conditions.
The wedding, no, because the public got their funfair-ride spectacle (and the press made a fortune) out of that... I don't think there was any binding condition attached for what would happen afterwards.
Security yes I personally think if they want to be financially independent, that should probably include paying for their own private security.

Thank God you don't have the final say TS. I'd make sure that when they returned to their cottage it had been let out as a centre for the rehabilitation of offenders... or a refugee centre... or a hostel for the homeless...

The flak she's getting just makes it clearer why they want no part of it IMO . Like I said, Harry was on this trajectory LONG before he met Megan, it's probably why he was attracted to a partner who didn't "fit the royal mould" in the first place, but now it's all "Megan has led him astray"? It's just nonsense, he has been (for better or worse) Diana's son since the second he started hitting the headlines in his teens and although the public loved Diana, we all know how the Royals felt about her. Absolutely nothing to do with Megan, other than her maybe encouraging him to go with it when no one else in his life has/ever would.

Yeah i agree with that, he does seem to be very like Diana. Tbf it must be suffocating to be born into that life if you're a certain type of person. I know I would hate to have a spotlight on me everywhere I went with such little privacy and anonymity. Of course he has perks which I'm sure he enjoys but that life wasn't his choice

What I can't get my head around is if he never wanted this life, why did he have the big public wedding, surely the two of them should have thought about what they wanted before the wedding, it's not even been two years, if its been on the cards since a teenager he had plenty time to plot his course in the world

He's 35, and as I said in the "when is a boy a man" thread - 30's sounds about right to me for people starting to figure their **** out. Also, the media turned absolutely toxic once they were done with the wedding. Probably lifted the curtain a bit.

He's had plenty of time to step down. They moan - probably with good reason - about the British tabloids, but both of them are happy to court the press if they need to. They should go if they want to... but they can leave all the money.
I think Meghan is about as good for the royal family as the last American divorcee who pitched up.

That's why it is a bit have your cake and eat it because they have enjoyed the benefits of their status when it's suited them and they still do intend to benefit from it by using his father's money and retaining their titles and property. They're also more than happy to have media coverage providing its all on their terms and totally uncritical

True, I'd rather they did it properly and gave up the titles and inherited money/status along with everything else.
I don't think it's a problem that they want to remain public figures though, there's a big difference between doing that as THEMSELVES, and having to toe the Royal line.

If you're born a royal at Harry's level, then it's pretty impossible to just give up everything, cut ties, and receive no benefits. As ex military and a royal, he'd be a huge prize for terrorists. That's obviously not only unacceptable to his family, but to the presentation of the country as a whole.
I'm not even a royalist, but not sure what people are expecting from them. He's not the first man to make decisions for the benefit of his family, so not sure it's an issue that has to be either "she's ruined him" or "he's an under the thumb cuck".

...other people losing parents when they were children is not really relevant...there isn’t a set rule about how a trauma/a loss/a shock etc will impact on one person as oppose to someone else...I always think that’s the most bizarre thing to say...it’s obvious from the very few times that Harry has agreed to discuss his mother, how deeply it still affects his emotions... and already, the media have been very unkind to Meghan...so all of this would have been considered by both of them in their decision...

I think a lot of Harry and Meghans problems have been a self fulfilling prophecy. They are both overly sensitive to any negative press and transform trivial events into major catastrophes, which generates more press and so the cycle goes on.
They could have quietly disappeared into the sunset, just not performing any public functions for the royal family and living their own lives, but they chose to make a big drama out of it and stir the pot with the Royal family. It's a weird approach for people who want to be out of the public eye.

Err no that was the human birth date of Original Kate, the current one (v4.3, you can find the serial number under her hat) was assembled in October 2018 so ages until her birthday.

Waxworks of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been removed from the royal family display at Madame Tussauds London.
The museum’s move follows the royal couple’s announcement that they plan on stepping down as “senior” members of the royal family while working to become financially independent.
The display dedicated to the royal family at Madame Tussauds in the capital featured the waxworks of the duke and duchess standing among those of the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Harry more than anyone knew what he was bringing Meghan into, so I blame him really, but he went along with the Princessy wedding and now that all there is to look forward to are meet and greets in Cleehthorpes on a cold Wednesday afternoon the appeal for Meghan has worn off, she is probably a bit homesick as well, especially now she has a child.

In my opinion...maybe Megan should have given herself more time to experience the trials and tribulations of being a Royal. Harry should have ensured she understood the good and the bad bearing in mind what his mother had to deal with. They seemed to jump in feet first and married quickly with Megan desperate to start a family.
Harry seems in awe of her...and she is a massive diva imo.
If they don’t want to be part of the Royal family and cannot cope with what comes with it then make a complete break. You can’t have your cake and eat it.
Megan imo tried to be this independent feminist...she has Harry wrapped around her little finger but it’s completely backfired and the press and half the country have turned against her and she doesn’t like it and now feels completely sorry for herself. She hasn’t conformed to Royal tradition deliberately to see how far she could push the boundaries. Harry is his own man but walking away from the Royal family makes him look weak like Edward who abdicated for the love of a woman.

What this thread shows is the strength of feeling about the Royal family , good and bad. The simple fact is that its impossible to please everyone and it's impossible that they will each be liked by everyone too.
With the exception of Andrew, I think they all have something positive to offer, even taking into account the very human flaws which they all have.
Lets face it, the alternative to them would be someone like Boris or Corbyn showing up at events and being patrons of charities etc. I know which I prefer.

I'm surprised as I didn't know they could ,but the amount of media hate they've received has been unfair :bored:  .
I think Harry has been wanting to seperate himself from tradition & the royal duties for some time. And I don't envy the pressure they've been put under.

And it's utter BS about the Queen not knowing , of course she knew come on now let's not be silly  . They would of had to consult her and this would of most definitely been in the works for a while, there's no way they sprung this on her out the blue .
Then there's the whole process of sorting things out . Just because it's now "official" doesn't mean it was a sudden bombshell they dropped .
And obviously the media will report it , so how were they going to step down without them knowing?? so i don't understand why people are saying they should of done it quietly  . If you're in the public eye with this much fame under this much scrutiny and pressure how can something like this be kept a secret?? . Obviously the media will continue to throw hate sadly Harry & Meghan's way .
Harry was thinking about his family especially Meghan and he doesn't want her to go down the same route as his mum and they have their child to think about aswell , it was horrific the treatment Diana got. And Meghan has already received a ridiculous amount of abuse where she can't win no matter what she does.
Unfortunately i don't think they'll ever be able to live a quiet peaceful life as they'll always be apart of the royal family as it comes with the title sadly . And the press will continue to harass them. I just hope it's not as bad as it's been and hopefully when they settle wherever they decide to live things will calm down etc .
...yeah, the worry is that the negative press attention will increase now in reality...hell hath no fury like a hounding media scorned...
