Who is really infected with the Putin virus? Could it be Cameron, Blair, Merkel,

• Invasion of Georgia. APPEASEMENT.

The level of gaslighting, arrogance and memory loss shown by the political

He looked for compromise and ways of working with others in other Parties.
He was always a more moderate side to the Cons.
He'd had enough once Johnson was elected leader.
Personally I'd love it if he joined Labour but I doubt he will.
He is more a LibDem.

Reported today
if Labour does not get Growth
They will have to Raise the Taxes.
The IFS confirmed today
Well the IFS has criticised and blown holes in just about ALL the Parties plans.
Of course it's possible IF the growth doesn't come then other means of raising finances may have to be used.
However too IF growth does increase then the IFS is more likely very wrong
This IFS who have year on year just about had to upgrade and downgrade it's forecasting on the Cons budgets over the last decade.
Often not having a forecast more correct.
This IFS which along with ALL the other monetary institutions couldn't even forecast the global banking crash to come in 2008.
ALL the Parties may well have greater problems but it seems the IFS has only concentrated on the negative possiblity of Labour, Con and other Parties manifestos.
Except it seems for the LibDems.
I think they ought to have presented the positive and negative sides of the Labour and Con manifestos.
Not just present the more and only possible not certain negative results.
with the instability around the world at the moment, no-one can say anything with a high degree of certainty related to finance. All the parties can do is use their best judgement and be transparent in why they are doing it. No-one can ask for more than that
I've never known the run up to any UK or US election to be this boring. I'm so bored. They've managed to rouse absolutely nothing but complete political apathy.

UK growth rate is sitting at around 0.3% year-on-year which is the lowest it's been since 1998, and is projected to continue to fall with no expected uptick in the next 100 years at least.
Declining population is one of the biggest problems facing western post-modern civilisation. Stopping migration would be absolutely catastrophic for infrastructure.
Now, if these parties were being honest, what they would say is that they want better quality, skilled immigration, not overall less immigration. But of course migrant skill level has no bearing whatsoever on schools/NHS/roads. Which makes Clarkson's point moot. The population level is stable, not increasing. If it starts to drop we're in trouble.

Falling population means an aging population so you end up with a situation where the bulk of society is too old/frail to work and there aren't enough younger people to keep the lights on, or to care for the elderly. This isn't a theory it's a simple reality of late-stage capitalism, can already be seen happening in both Japan and South Korea.
Why do you think the US is suddenly knuckling down on trying to stop abortion? It aint because they give a **** about the babies. It's an attempt to slap some Flex Tape over the burst pipe of population decline (which is going to hit the central states before it hits the coastal states).

“The officer – a police constable from the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command – is on restricted duties.
“It is still the case that only one officer is under criminal investigation.
“We have, however, been passed information from the Gambling Commission alleging that five further officers have placed bets related to the timing of the election.
“The officers are based on the Royalty and Specialist Command, the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and the Central West Basic Command Unit. None of them work in a close protection role.

General election latest: Lockdowns were Britain’s biggest ever peacetime mistake, says
Farage
The second and third Covid lockdowns were the biggest ever mistake made by a British government in peacetime, Nigel Farage has said.
The Reform UK leader was speaking to 1,000 people at the Rainton Arena which is in the constituency of Houghton and Sunderland South, currently represented by Labour’s Bridget Phillipson.
Mr Farage told the rally: “The Tories say we’re in economic trouble because of the pandemic. But hang on, you didn’t need to lock us down for a second and a third time.
“You didn’t need to take away our freedoms in a way that weren’t even done during World War Two and all of it with Labour support.

He went on to say he treated the second and third lockdowns with “contempt”.

it was obvious some of the rules were completely stupid and when they went down the path of vaccine passports and insisted everyone should get vaccinated to protect their relatives, everyone knew it was bollocks

The rich will get richer , the poor .. poorer ..
Nothing changes and hasn’t over the last 60+ years .
It will be interesting to see how this bunch of unsavoury individuals ( Labour) deal with the next serious Covid type outbreak…

Tory minister who placed three bets on election date in line for Sunak peerage…
A Conservative cabinet minister who admitted placing three bets on the date of the general election is in line for a peerage as part of Rishi Sunak’s final honours list, the Observer has been told.
Alister Jack, the Scottish secretary who stood down as an MP when the election was called, had been considered for inclusion in a dissolution honours list compiled in recent weeks, according to sources familiar with the process. The list is set to be published soon after Thursday’s vote.
Jack said he had placed three bets on the election date – one of which was successful – as the row over election betting engulfed the campaign last week.
He made clear that he had not breached any rules and was not being investigated by the Gambling Commission. The watchdog is examining betting by Westminster figures on the date of the election.
Related: UK election betting scandal: all you need to know about the world of political wagers
However, figures inside the party argued it would be “problematic” to press ahead with Jack’s peerage, given the anger over the betting row and its impact on the Tory campaign. Recent discussions suggest that Jack could still be in line for an honour when the list is finally published.
Tory sources also warned Sunak that the dissolution honours list, traditionally published at the end of a parliament, risked provoking anger in the party if he attempted to use it to reward “arrogant” advisers and aides who have overseen an election campaign criticised as error-strewn.
“It’s just quite extraordinary that, having criticised Liz Truss for giving some of her team gongs for failure, they’re going to do the exact same thing,” said one source.
Despite serving just 49 days as prime minister, Truss handed honours to aides and advisers, including supportive MPs and donors.
The news comes amid private complaints about Sunak’s decision to call an early election, which appeared to take many of the Conservative party’s own officials by surprise.
At the time it was called, almost 200 candidates were yet to be appointed – the most telling sign of how much work has been needed to ready the party for the snap poll.
One of the central figures in the betting row is also understood to have been removed from the forthcoming honours list.
The scandal began when the Guardian revealed that Craig Williams, Sunak’s parliamentary aide, was under investigation by the *commission for placing a £100 bet that the election would be in July, three days before it was announced.
Williams is said to have been considered for a knighthoodbefore the row emerged, but has since been removed from the deliberations. He has described the wager as “a huge error of judgment” and is one of two Tory candidates to have had support withdrawn by the party while the commission investigates.
Last week, Jack denied BBC reports that he had won £2,100 on an election bet, suggesting he had been joking about the idea. He later released a statement saying he had “not breached any gambling rules”.
The cabinet minister said in March he had placed two bets of £5 each for an election to be held in May and June respectively.
He placed a £20 bet in April at odds of 5 to 1 that an election would be held between July and September.
“I had no knowledge of the date of the election until the day it was called,” he said. “As I have said previously, I placed no bets in May and am not under investigation by the Gambling Commission.”

I am finding more than usual a lot of planning for tactical voting.
Probably moreso than in previous elections.
Especially too from Labour voters who want to assist the LibDems to unseat Cons.
I'm actually finding it too in a smaller way vice versa.
A fair number of those who have voted LibDem before, have indicated they will vote for Labour where that extra push could swing the seat.
Tactical voting may well be a strong deciding factor this time.
I haven't before in the elections I've helped campaign in from 2015.
I haven't come across such as to the more hoping to work together as to Labour and the LibDems.
The election has really moved on to a new phase. Labour are now operating in the area where Tony Blair and David Cameron were dominant. The tory party are no longer conservative. Starmer has entirely dominated the traditional tory position so, when farage entered the fray, the "tory" party has nowhere left to go.
So, the question is how big a defeat will it be, will the "tory" party end up with less than 50 seats, and thats where tactical voting will come in to play. Tactical voting will be what pushes the tory seats to 50 or less. Previously, tactical voting was used to win a tight election, in this case, it's to wipe the tory party out

Johnson returns
joeysteele

Honestly what a spectacle in Johnson
A lawbreaker crawling out the woodwork to support another COVID period lawbreaker in Sunak.
Sunak the man who by his resignation as Chancellor, really was the point where Johnson was done as PM.
Now Johnson comes out to support him.
Hypocrisy in politics is rife but this level of deceit of support and hypocrisy from Johnson is on another scale entirely.
All most voters must see, is someone who disgraced the office of PM himself when in power and was finally forced in disgrace from power when trying to protect a sexual predator which was the last straw as to putting up with Johnson any longer.
Good to see the odious creep back to remind most of that.
the tories are done. I'm surprised they are getting any attention at all. They need to scurry off and regroup. The resultant party will either be something that is more in the realm of traditional tories or something even more unpalatable than it is now.
Labour can't be complacent though, the public has little time for politicians. Starmer is the most unpopular leader heading to being prime minister ever. We have no idea what the political landscape will be in 5 years time, but it won't be pretty
The Tories seem to be making up a bit of ground in the polls now and Boris' intervention will only help that
Might not be such a bad night after all

I would also be surprised if reform get more than 2 seats, because it's not the intervention of Boris that has affected anything, it's just the public being aware that reform are a deeply controversial company. They are not a political party, they are a business owned by Farage

This whole ‘supermajority’ thing is so ridiculously stupid it’s unreal, the 80 seat majority Boris was given had the same powers that whatever majority Labour will get tomorrow, it’s beyond dishonest at this point, but what’s to be expected from a party on its last desperate breaths?

Eleanor Stringer : Labour
Danielle Dunfield-Prayero : Conservative
Paul Hohler : LibDems
Ben Cronin : Reform UK
Rachel Brooks : Greens
Aaron Mafi : Workers Party of Britain
Also 3 more
but they are not worthy of a mention.
a big labour majority means that starmer will not be held hostage by the left of the party, which is the exact opposite of what the tories are trying to portray. The stronger the hold that Starmer has in the centre of british politics, the harder it will be for the tories to take back that space. That's what the tories really fear

The Tories seem to be making up a bit of ground in the polls now and Boris' intervention will only help that
Might not be such a bad night after all
Elections can spring surprises.
I'm about done on my canvassing now and despite the very promising results of that canvassing, I still recall 2015, when it seemed from all the polling results privately that Labour were on course to be the largest Party.
Then the Cons won.
However if these polls are wrong from the official organisations, then they.should be banned in future in my view.
I don't want to see the Cons decimated.
They've been an incredible winning machine for centuries
Plus I don't like Parties getting massive overall majorities for around 40% of votes cast.
A strong opposition is needed now matter who is in power.
So I hope the Cons do better than the polling suggests they will.
Reform are awful, they are a Party with their far more ugly rhetoric and some of the people they attract that I could never touch with a bargepole.
Today I think I helped in guiding 2 usual Con voters not to vote Reform, which they intended to.
It was quite odd realising I was actually pushing for support to the Cons.
However I intensely dislike Reform with a passion.
So I wish you some luck in your hopes for a better night than may have been expected.
Plus have admired your loyalty to the Cons
If our private polling is right, Labour is going to win with more than a substantial majority ON PAPER.
IF they do, I do however hope it is a reasonably strong Con opposition in place too.
I am glad this election is over, It's been a more pleasant one canvassing for Labour this time compared to the vile comments we were receiving in 2019.
It's been awful though as to the media presentation and this obsession with the opinion polling.
