PAGE 3 legend Linda Lusardi has quit Emmerdale after just seven months.

Linda, 49, will carry on playing Carrie Nicholls until the end of the year, then leave to pursue new acting roles.

The former Sun favourite, who joined the ITV1 soap in February, said last night: “I have had a wonderful time at Emmerdale. I became an actress to play different roles.

“I am looking forward to working on new projects in 2008.”

A source close to Linda said: “It’s not a row about money. She thinks it is time to move on.”

Series producer Kathleen Beedles said: “We wish Linda all the very best for the future.”

REAL strippers were used to film Jimmy King’s stag night scenes before his wedding to Kelly Windsor in Emmerdale.

Nick Miles who plays Jimmy told us: “We shot the scenes in a real strip club in Leeds last month and it was great fun.

“It will be quite raunchy for a 7pm slot as real strippers are featured and there’s lap dancing but they’re obviously not flashing too much flesh.”

In the episode screened tonight, Jimmy, brothers Matthew and Carl and Rodney Blackstock and his gay son Paul head down to the Velvet Peach gentlemen’s club.

Paul even does an impromptu lap dance up on stage with the strippers.

Nick added: “Jimmy is the victim of a lap dance which the others arrange for him but he gets a shock when he discovers that Lexi is his private dancer.

“His brothers also threaten to bundle him into a van and send him to Zeebrugge. Carl is his best man and he’s meant to be looking after Jimmy but he’s not very supportive.

“The next day Adele is not amused to discover that Lexi did a lap dance for Jimmy and pours a jug of cold water over him as a punishment.”

EMMERDALE favourite Jack Sugden and his family will go up in smoke in a sensational storyline to mark the show’s 35th anniversary.

Daughter Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) blames dad Jack for the death of her mother Sarah in a barn fire seven years ago and decides to burn his house down.

After getting drunk, Victoria douses Jack’s home in petrol and threatens to torch it until adopted brother Andy tells her that he accidentally killed Sarah.

In an hour-long special screened later this month a huge explosion threatens to wipe out the whole family and even Daz is caught in the blast outside and is injured.

Then Jack’s love rival Billy who has just been spurned by Diane comes to the rescue. Can he save the Sugdens?

Longest serving cast member Clive Hornby, 62, who has played Jack since 1980, said: “We had to wear fire-proof clothing for the scenes and it did get quite warm. But it was great fun.

“The scenes were uncomfortable and hard to do but as an actor it was great. It was very real and like doing a movie.

“I could really feel the heat when Jack is unconscious on the bathroom floor as the door was beginning to catch fire but there were real firemen on hand to ensure that we weren’t in any real danger.

“When there was the initial fireball I was so shocked that I swore and it had to be edited out.”

The repercussions of the blast will reverberate through the village for months to come.

Clive added: “Jack always knew that the circumstances surrounding Sarah’s death would come back to haunt the family.

“Viewers like to remember old characters and to see this type of continuity. It will affect Jack, Andy and Victoria for a long time to come.”

ITV names soap supremos
Ben Dowell Guardian Unlimited Thursday November 15 2007 ITV today appointed Kim Crowther to the top job on Coronation Street, while Anita Turner will take the helm at Emmerdale, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.

Crowther, who began working on Coronation Street more than six years ago and left in 2004 to develop other projects for ITV, will take the top post of producer in the new year to allow a handover period with the current producer, Steve Frost.

Soap supremos: Anita Turner, left, and Kim Crowther Frost will bow out at the end of March after two-and-a-half years. Kieran Roberts, the controller of drama for ITV in Manchester, will continue his role as executive producer.

Meanwhile at Emmerdale, Anita Turner, a former script editor on the series who has been working at independent Lime Pictures for the past two years, will take over from series producer Kath Beedles in January and be based in Leeds.

Both Frost and Beedles will remain with ITV Productions taking on what the network calls "important new roles in the drama department".

One of Beedles' first projects will be an Emmerdale related spin-off, which she hopes to produce during 2008.

The controller of drama for ITV in Leeds, Keith Richardson, continues his role as Emmerdale's executive producer.

Crowther, who joined Coronation Street as script editor in 2001 and quickly progressed to the role of series editor, said: "From my time as series editor while Richard Hillman gripped the nation, through to the current meltdown of David Platt, Corrie has proved it does things differently, having the ability to move, amuse and excite its audience all at the same time.

"I'm looking forward to building on the show's recent successes while creating must-see storylines for 2008 and beyond."

Turner has worked in television for 20 years, during which she has worked as script editor on Emmerdale and Coronation Street. She has also script edited Holby City.

Most recently, Turner was the development editor and script editor on a new drama, Apparitions, produced by Liverpool-based indie Lime Pictures.

"Thirty-five years and Emmerdale is still fantastic. Being given the chance to help it go from strength to strength is such an honour - I can't wait," she said.

The director of ITV Productions, John Whiston, said: "It's a time of change for the soaps. In the last couple of years under Steve and Kath and their teams, both soaps have defied gravity and held on to their massive audiences while all around were losing theirs.

"Both Steve and Kath are a terribly tough act to follow. That's why we are all thrilled that we've got Kim and Anita to step into their shoes. These jobs require passion, judgment, diplomacy, invention and above all superhuman stamina.

"I'm also just as excited that we've persuaded Steve and Kath to stay within the company. We will be unleashing them soon into the wider drama arena where I know they will deliver great new shows for ITV Productions."

Anita Turner has been appointed as Emmerdale’s new Series Producer, the show announced on Thursday.

Current Producer, Kath Beedles, leaves the soap at the end of the year but will take on an important role in the drama department.

After three hugely successful years as Series Producer, one of Kath’s first projects is an Emmerdale-related spin off which she hopes to produce during 2008. Controller of Drama for ITV in Leeds, Keith Richardson, continues his role as Emmerdale’s Executive Producer.

Anita has worked in television for 20 years, beginning her career as a Production Assistant, and moving through the ranks as Production Manager, Researcher and Script Editor.

She has worked as Script Editor on both Emmerdale and Coronation Street and has also script edited Holby City. Most recently, Anita was the Development Editor and Script Editor on a new drama, Apparitions, produced by Liverpool based indie Lime Pictures.

Anita Turner, who joins the show in January, said: “Thirty five years and Emmerdale is still fantastic. Being given the chance to help it go from strength to strength is such an honour – I can’t wait.”

Coronation Street’s Producer, Steve Frost, is also leaving at the end of the year. Click here to read more

Director of ITV Productions, John Whiston, said: “It’s a time of change for the soaps. In the last couple of years under Steve and Kath and their teams, both soaps have defied gravity and held on to their massive audiences while all around were losing theirs. That is because they are the best written, performed and produced shows on television. The ratings and the awards speak for themselves.

"Both Steve and Kath are a terribly tough act to follow. That’s why we are all thrilled that we’ve got Kim and Anita to step into their shoes.

“These jobs require passion, judgment, diplomacy, invention and above all superhuman stamina. Kim and Anita have proved they have all these qualities in abundance and I know they can’t wait to take over ITV’s crown jewels.

“I’m also just as excited that we’ve persuaded Steve and Kath to stay within the Company. We will be unleashing them soon into the wider drama arena where I know they will deliver great new shows for ITV Productions.”

Emmerdale will be filmed on high definition cameras from April.

ITV Productions is investing £560,000 in new equipment as part of a transition to all-HD, tapeless production for the soap.

It will not mean any change to Emmerdale's broadcast format but Paul Bennett, director of resources in the North for the company, admitted it could affect the way it looks.

"When the cameras arrive proper we'll be reviewing our whole lighting set-up and checking the whole look of Emmerdale," he said. "We might choose to use different filtering or lighting set-ups.

"We're very aware that it will subtly change. We must continue the product that the viewer is used to. Our intention is not to force a look change on the production. From our resources point of view we must re-produce it."

The first episodes filmed in HD are expected to be aired in June.

Bennett said the change would include moving to all-digital rather than tapes. He said the whole process including post-production would be HD "within the next two to three years".

Coronation Street will remain filmed in standard definition for now but will be changed in coming years.

"We're going to accelerate the cycle as we need to be high def in the next couple of years," Bennett told Broadcast.

A mum has slammed Emmerdale producer Anita Turner after her two-year-old son was sacked for crying.

Benjamin Shooter, who joined the ITV1 soap as Samson Dingle last April, was replaced by another toddler in February after bursting into tears when he saw screen dad Sam (James Hooton). The pair had filmed a dramatic family row scene a few days earlier.

Mum Emma Shooter condemned bosses of treating her son like a "prop" and putting him in “horrifying” scenes showing armed robber Sam turning himself in to police.

The 31-year-old from Tadchester, Yorkshire, said: "He got very upset when his screen dad was confronted by cops and the Dingles. There was a lot of shouting going on. I had to take him straight home to calm down."

Benjamin was back on set four days later but cried every time he saw Hooton.

Emma told The Sun: "If he’d been able to spend a bit of time playing with James, he would have been fine. They sacked him and didn’t give him chance to adjust.”

It was reported last week that morale has dropped on the soap since Turner took over as series producer in January.

She has caused friction on set by axing several characters, including Grayson Sinclair (Christopher Villiers) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve).

ITV's press release

Clive Hornby

04/07/2008

Clive Hornby
1944- 2008

Actor Clive Hornby, best known for playing devoted family man and farmer Jack Sugden in Emmerdale, passed away last night at the age of 63.

Clive was born and grew up in Liverpool and started out as an accounts clerk before enjoying success as a drummer with pop group The Dennisons in the 1960s. The band were compared to and played on the same bill as The Beatles at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club. Later, the group split to pursue other projects and Clive turned his attention to acting, attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before going into repertory theatre.

Clive appeared in various television productions including the army sitcom Get Some In, Gerry Anderson’s Space 1999 and Minder alongside George Cole. He first appeared in Emmerdale on 19 February 1980. He was initially offered a three month contract as farmer Jack Sugden, a character who returned to the village after previously being played by Andrew Burt. An astonishing 28 years later after Jack’s three marriages and five children, Clive remained the longest serving cast member in Emmerdale’s history.

Anita Turner, Series Producer, Emmerdale says “This is a devastating loss and we are all deeply saddened. Clive will be greatly missed by everyone who has worked with him on Emmerdale during the past 28 years. He was a hugely popular and well-respected member of cast and a terrific actor. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Tributes to Clive

Series Producer Anita Turner said: “Losing Clive is an enormous blow to everyone both here at Emmerdale and at ITV.

“Clive was the heart of the show, not just because he was the longest serving member of cast but also because he was such an exceptional man.

“He loved Emmerdale and we talked long and hard about how he would return to the show. The last time I saw him was on Tuesday and even then we were joking about how he would just walk into the green room and surprise everyone.

“He brought real heart to the character of Jack Sugden and that’s not an easy thing to do when you work as hard as he did on our soap - Emmerdale. His portrayal of a farmer was utterly believable and he never looked happier to me than when he was there on the farm with his sleeves rolled up saving a sheep or just leaning on a fence looking out over the Dales. It meant that Jack was a wonderful everyman – farmer, father, lover, husband. Jack was the benchmark against which everything else could be judged in Emmerdale.

“Clive was an incredibly private man but that didn’t stop him having time for others. He was warm, I found him very wise about life and the show, and he had a fabulous sense of humour.

“He was a consummate professional – never late, never moaned, always considerate to his fellow colleagues no matter who they were or their role within the show. I remember he would spend as much time talking to the gang in the print room as he would with any Exec. He was a true people person.

“I have always said that Emmerdale is a family. Today we lost our father.”

Chris Chittell who plays Eric Pollard said: “Clive meant everything to everyone and I can only endorse all that Anita has said.

“He had a wicked sense of humour which I always appreciated. There was an occasion where Pollard was having his stag night before the marriage to his second wife, and was drunk as the proverbial skunk. I had a page and a half of Pollard dialogue and everyone knew I was quaking in my boots. Both Clive and Frazer (Hines) took the mick out of me quite disgracefully. It was a great, fun day.

“He was a very private and courageous man and not only a great contributor to the show but also to all our lives. He was a great guy and therefore will obviously be missed.”

RIP Clive Hornby, hearing about the death was a shock to me as an Emmerdale fan. I didn't realise how ill he was, I imagined he just had a virus or something.

I reckon they will kill Jack Sugden off rather than replace Clive with a new actor, I think an on-screen funeral will be a moving tribute and highlight the impact he has had on the soap over the years.

Emmerdale star Matt Healy has announced that he is quitting the soap.

Show chiefs have confirmed that they have a dramatic exit plot lined up for the actor, who has played businessman Matthew King for five years. His final scenes are expected to air in December.

Healy told the Daily Star: "After five years of wearing Matthew's suits every morning and having to shave every day, I feel ready to pull on some bermuda shorts and grow a goatee! But I've had a brilliant time at Emmerdale and I'm excited about what lies ahead."

Emmerdale's series producer Anita Turner added: "Matthew King will leave Emmerdale in an explosive storyline. We wish Matt all the very best."

Turner also promised that Healy's departure will not affect his on-screen brothers Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Carl (Tom Lister), who will remain in the Dales.

EMMERDALE chiefs are hunting for a new farmer — in a bid to take the show back to its rural roots.

The show, which used to be called Emmerdale Farm, has only one farmer left — Andy Sugden, played by Kelvin Fletcher.

Producers want to beef up on country characters in the Yorkshire-based soap after Clive Hornby — who played Jack Sugden — died last month.

A senior insider told TV Biz: “We want to create a new farming dynasty. Families and farming are the cornerstone of Emmerdale and it’s important we don’t forget that.

“We want to take the show back to its farming roots, while keeping it sexy and exciting.”

The new man will be a land-owning LADY KILLER — provisionally named John Naylor. He is described as a “charming, forty-something Casanova who will be an instant hit with the local ladies."

He will have a family who will join the cast in the spring.

The insider said: “We are in the final few days of casting and hope to announce our new man very shortly.

“The actor who is confirmed in the role will join the cast in late September and begin filming then. Our new man will become a major character. He’ll be bringing lots of new storylines and new faces to the village.”

The move comes after the show has lost a string of stars.

Earlier this week hunky Matt Healy — who plays moody ladies’ man Matthew King — announced plans to quit.

Roxanne Pallett (Jo Sugden) and Emily Symons (Louise Appleton) are also on the verge of leaving.

Emmerdale's Donna Windsor Dingle's life is left hanging in the balance tonight when her car pursuit of Viv's (Deena Payne) charity nemesis Freddie Yorke (Keith Woodason) culminates in an almighty car flip and explosion.

In a desperate attempt to prove her mother's innocence, Donna - played by 22-year-old Verity Rushworth - loses control of her car at a roundabout, resulting in a mid-air flip and leaving her and police colleague Ross Kirk (Samuel Anderson) trapped inside.

After managing to free himself from the wreck, Ross spots petrol pouring from the ruptured fuel tank and has no choice but to drag Donna from the disaster zone. Seconds after their getaway, the car explodes into a ball of fire.

Emmerdale will be glistening with glamour this winter as sexy new couple Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) and Mark Wylde (Maxwell Caulfield) arrive in the village.

The aspirational, wealthy and dynamic family have decided to live the dream country life, but will the idyllic lifestyle prove to be everything that they are hoping for? Despite a warm welcome from the locals, can ball-breaking Natasha and smooth entrepreneur Mark fit in with Emmerdale life, or is it simply a matter of time before the dream turns sour?

Meanwhile, Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) life is about to be torn apart by the heartbreaking discovery of his wife Donna’s (Verity Rushworth) infidelity. Donna’s steamy affair with fellow police officer Ross (Samuel Anderson) is exposed, and she’s forced to confess the truth to her beloved husband. Is their marriage strong enough to recover from such a bitter betrayal?
The aftermath of the chilling Christmas Day discovery of a body beneath the ice sends shockwaves through the village. As the police investigation gets underway, Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and Debbie (Charley Webb) are tortured by fear and contemplate fleeing the village together for good.
And Emmerdale villagers past and present unite for an emotional and final farewell to the legendary Jack Sugden. Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) is inconsolable on learning of Jack’s death in Spain, and the Sugdens come together in a touching tribute that will mirror the first-ever episode of Emmerdale in 1972, as Jack is laid to rest.

Also this winter, Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) falls into the arms of an unexpected bachelor, Paul (Mathew Bose) is forced to choose between the love of his life and the needs of his family, it’s crunch time for Carl (Tom Lister), as he faces a decision about his long-term future with Lexi (Sally Oliver), and a much-loved local returns to the village.

Anna (Emma Davies) is summoned to a De Souza board meeting, fully intending to sell her shares in the business. Instead, Anna is floored to discover that De Souza is the major shareholders in Polek Haulage but she is powerless to save King and Sons as she has no influence over the board. Meanwhile, the Kings discover from their solicitor that they have until the end of the day to raise funds or else the creditors will liquidate their assets. Carl (Tom Lister) urges Matthew (Matt Healy) to come clean about Donald’s death so Anna can make a decision about whether to help them. When Anna returns from the meeting, Matthew is furious to hear about the situation, almost cancelling the wedding. The pair resolve to not tell Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Carl until after their wedding sure it will ruin their day. Matthew lies to Carl that he told Anna about his involvement in Donald’s death. Will the Kings’ problems impact on Matthew and Anna’s big day?

Elsewhere, when Edna (Shirley Stelfox) has to make room for Lily return, Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) finds herself in need of new living arrangements. She spitefully tells Edna that she’s better off away from her, but it’s obvious Nicola’s hurting. Later, desperate to make amends with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) by looking after Gabby (Annelise Manojlovic) for the afternoon. However, Nicola and David (Matthew Wolfenden) struggle to rebuild their relationship when Nicola becomes jealous seeing David flirt with Leyla (Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi). Will Nicola emerge from social oblivion?

Also, Lee (Lewis Linford) is pleased to spend time around the farm helping Jo (Roxanne Pallett). When he fixes an old drain pipe and drenches his t-shirt, Lee is forced to dry his top in the house. Jo is momentarily transfixed when Lee removes his top, but Mick (Tony Haygarth) soon warns his grandson to cover up. When Lee’s drain work comes loose, Mick accuses him of spending too much time flirting, a claim Lee denies. Are Lee and Jo simply just good friends?

***

PI for the rest of the week follows:

Tuesday 16 December 7pm:

The Kings are on edge on the day of the wedding as fears about the future of the business threaten to overshadow the nuptials. Bailiffs soon arrive in the middle of the preparations and cause chaos at Home Farm. Meanwhile, in his quest to get revenge on Polek, Carl (Tom Lister) finds out from his solicitor that De Souza own their proposed investor. With a furious rage in his eyes Carl bursts into Anna (Emma Davies) and Matthew's (Matt Healy) wedding demanding they stop the ceremony.

Accusing Matthew of aligning with Anna so he and Jimmy (Nick Miles) lose everything, Carl can't contain himself and strikes his brother hard in the face. Venomously, Carl wonders what kind of human beings would unite to watch a family member die and Anna is left heartbroken to hear the explanation that Matthew witnessed her father’s death. Old wounds are reopened and in a flurry of mutual hatred Matthew and Carl erupt into a furious fist fight Can Anna put the dire revelation about Donald's death behind her and marry the man she loves or will the bitter internal feud between the Kings come to a dramatic and potentially fatal conclusion?

Meanwhile, with Jo (Roxanne Pallett) under a mountain of pressure at the farm, Lee (Lewis Linford) agrees to go to the suppliers for her. He calls at the Woolpack to pick up some paperwork and is forced to give Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) a lift to the wholesalers. The tension between the two is palpable, but both try to hide their contempt for the other. On the way Lee decides to pull over for a toilet stop and Andy notices the order sheet on his dashboard. Andy changes the amount unbeknownst to Lee who proceeds to buy seven times as much stock as Jo needs. Jo is furious with Lee for his error when she can’t refund the stock. Lee is angry to realise Andy sabotaged his errand and is frustrated that no one believes him. Can Lee get his own back on Andy?

****

Wednesday 17 December 7pm

The tumultuous events of the previous day affect the Kings and send shockwaves through the village. With no further safety net available the Kings are powerless to stop the bailiffs as three men turn up to claim Home Farm and all of the other King properties. Have the Kings lost their place in the village forever?

Also, Jamie (Alex Carter) tries to calm TJ’s (Connor Lee) fears when it transpires that Terry (Billy Hartman) has forgotten to post his letter to Santa and it will therefore not reach the North Pole in time. Putting a plan into action Jamie buys some sweets and some material to build a post box for the letter. Jamie tries to prove that Santa does exist to TJ by presenting the magical post-box to him. Word spreads about the powers of the post-box and soon Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Samson (Luis Townley) arrive with more letters for Santa. TJ is still sceptical when he discovers his letter hasn’t disappeared to Santa’s house until Belle manages to convince him. All are stunned by the magical event and even Jamie decides to try his luck and posts a letter to Santa. Has the Christmas spirit finally touched the village?

Elsewhere, Lee (Lewis Linford) is pleased to be offered an interview for some game keeping work but worries that Mick (Tony Haygarth) blames him for the problems at Butlers. Mick heads to the farm, but is unable to help Jo (Roxanne Pallett) when her water supply is faulty. Jo is grateful when Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) agrees to help her by fixing the broken water pump. When he is unable to get parts until the following day, Jo starts to worry that Andy will engineer further opportunities to spend time at the farm. Is Andy hatching a devious plan?

****

Thursday 18 December

The villagers decide that the King family is cursed as the repossession of properties continue. Meanwhile, the Kings watch from Mill Cottage, which has been saved from the process as the other properties cover the debt. With their lives in utter ruin the family members wonder whether there is anything left to sustain an existence in the village. Will the Kings find reason to stay?

Meanwhile, Bob (Tony Audenshaw) attempts to bring some cheer back into the village by suggesting a Christmas Day meal for the Hopes, Terry (Billy Hartman), TJ (Connor Lee) and Brenda (Lesley Dunlop). However, Terry is torn when he receives a postcard from Jean asking for TJ to visit in Morocco over the festive period. Terry is touched when Brenda encourages him to take TJ to visit Jean for Christmas. Is Terry and Brenda’s relationship growing stronger?

Also, Daz (Luke Tittensor) is shocked to find Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) working at the farm and though Jo (Roxanne Pallett) explains the situation, it’s clear that there’s no love lost between the brothers. In spite of the ill feeling Andy makes a pledge to make Daz trust him again. When the repair job goes well, Jo rewards Andy by offering unsupervised access to Sarah (Sophia Amber Moore). Later, after becoming suspicious about Andy’s intentions, Daz suspects that Andy is deliberately sabotaging the farm so he can be around Jo. Andy strongly denies this, but will Daz be proved right?

****

Friday 19 December 7pm

Jo (Roxanne Pallett) is unnerved when Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) turns up at the farm with a Christmas tree. While Jo leaves with Mick (Tony Haygarth) to pick up some supplies, Andy decides to loosen some seals on the washing machine. Lee (Lewis Linford) catches him in the act and the pair fight with Lee punching Andy in the face. A returning Jo is shocked to see the scene and Mick parts the lads. After finding out that Andy is sabotaging everything, Jo orders him to leave. Later, Lee discovers a broken Jo crying at Butlers as the weight of her problems bears down on her. Jo realises that her only option is to leave the village and begs Lee to help her. How will Jo escape from her life of misery?

Meanwhile, the Kings are allowed to collect their belongings from Home Farm. Internal squabbles erupt once more as nobody can agree whether to leave the village after Home Farm has been emptied. What’s next for the King family?

Elsewhere, Edna (Shirley Stelfox) kicks Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) out and she fails to gain neither a job nor accommodation from Paddy (Dominic Brunt). Paul (Mathew Bose) is equally unhelpful and her efforts to engineer a grace period from Edna fall on deaf ears. As other options in the village turn her down, Nicola seeks solace in the Church. Finding her former friend deep in prayer, Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) takes pity on her and offers for her to stay at Mulberry. Can the Thomases summon some Christmas spirit?

Jasmine's (Jenna-Louise Coleman) stunned when she hears that Ross (Samuel Anderson) has been charged for Shane's (Paul McEwan) murder, Jasmine shocks Debbie (Charley Webb) when she reveals that she's going to turn herself in to the cops. Debbie tries to convince her best friend that confessing is the worst thing she could do.

Realising she's dead set on handing herself in, Debbie packs her a bag and drives her to the police station, hoping to call her bluff. As they sit outside, Jasmine comes to her senses at the last minute and while thanking Debbie for her friendship, the pair share a passionate kiss. Is this the start of a lesbian love affair in the Dales? Or are they simply leaning to each other for support during this tough time?

He's struggling to cope with the loss of his brother and his business.

Dealing with Matthew's death and the demise of the family business sends Jimmy King over the edge this week. And, as he bids a final farewell to his brother, he lashes out at the congregation at the funeral.

He's horribly fragile on the day of the burial, and his mood is not helped by the news that his dad Tom's gravestone has been defaced. Once again, Jimmy turns to booze and almost comes to blows with Zak at the Woolpack. The villagers look on in pity as he's dragged out by Daz and Carl half cut and ranting like a loon.

Nick Miles says " Its all too much for him. The family is broken and he is furious that somebody could disrespect them so much they'd do that to Tom's grave at a time like this".

Jimmy then makes an exhibition of himself when he stands at the altar and accuses practically everyone of being responsible for the graffiti.

"He has a real rant. He accuses Daz because Matthew didnt like him, and then points the finger at Andy Sugden. Next he goes for the Dingles, then Chas and Katie, who he calls bimbos. After them, its Rodney, Pearl, Betty and Vaughan and finally Anna who arrives late and slips into the church. He is on a roll and has really lost it"

Jimmy then storms out of the funeral in disgust. Has he got the strength to get over whats happened and start afresh?

All I can say is.....fair point well made Jimbo!

Into Yorkshire now, where a certain few residents of Emmerdale are slowly to realise just how much trouble they could be in if their hand in Shane's (Paul McEwan) murder is discovered. Donna (Verity Rushworth) realises that the feed bags that she unearthed at the Dingles' were discontinued over 10 years ago. Convinced that Eli (Joseph Gilgun) killed her now-dead colleague, the takes a feed bag and has the Dingles' van impounded and Eli hauled in for questioning. Will Eli come clean to the police? He is a Dingle...

Emmerdale bad boy Cain Dingle is to make a whirlwind comeback to the village in April after a three-year break, with money to burn and scores to settle.

Signalling his return from afar, Cain - played by 38-year-old Jeff Hordley - sends a high-profile solicitor to the Yorkshire Dales in the hope of securing his daughter Debbie's (Charley Webb) release from prison. Cain's journey, however, doesn't go as smoothly as planned when he's arrested on his way back to the village.

Hordley initially quit his rural role back in April 2006 to pursue other projects. His storyline saw Cain bow out of the serial drama following the character's successful kidnap and extortion plot involving Tom (Ken Farrington) and Sadie King (Patsy Kensit).

Speaking of his decision to return, Hordley said: "I am really looking forward to returning to Emmerdale. The storylines that lead to Cain’s return are in keeping with his character and a perfect way to bring him back to the heart of the Dingle clan where he belongs."

Series producer Anita Turner added: "I'm delighted to welcome Jeff back to the show. This storyline presented the exciting opportunity in which to reintroduce Cain. Debbie will be going through hell in the next few months and it's such a boost to have her dad fighting alongside her."
