Will watch anyway.

I usually only watch the dramatic stories.

e.g. Liam's death and Tony's heart-attack.

Scarlett.
16-11-2009, 06:31 PM
I think so :D

btw;

Endgame meaning
1. Games The final stage of a chess game after most of the pieces have been removed from the board.
2. The final stage of an extended process or course of events: the diplomatic endgame that led to the treaty.

Awesome news!

Alan Halsall has revealed that Coronation Street producers have changed their plans for Weatherfield love cheats Molly Dobbs and Kevin Webster.

In recent months, fans of the ITV1 soap have seen Halsall's character Tyrone remain clueless as his wife Molly (Vicky Binns) cheats on him with married mechanic Kevin (Michael Le Vell).

Speaking about how the plot could conclude, Halsall told PA: "I did know what was happening, but apparently there's been a change in the storyline. They like to keep you on your toes and the public on their toes. So at the moment I don't actually know how it finishes. I know where we go to up to January. But after that, who knows?"

Show bosses have already confirmed (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/news/a177693/breast-cancer-plot-for-coronation-street.html) that the storyline will take a twist next month when Kevin's wife Sally (Sally Whittaker) is diagnosed with breast cancer. There have also been reports (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/news/a181961/new-twist-ahead-for-corrie-love-cheats.html) of a shock baby plotline for Molly and Kevin.

Halsall explained: "We've just shot Christmas Day and New Year. There are things that might happen at Christmas and might not - lots of ifs, buts and maybes.

"It should be a nice Christmas. Then after Christmas the situation gets a lot worse for Tyrone. I can't say too much, but it's going to be very sad for him."

In September, Le Vell publicly criticised (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/news/a179855/michael-le-vell-threatens-to-quit-corrie.html) the infidelity story, announcing that he wanted Kevin to dump Molly upon hearing Sally's sad news.

Coronation Street's leading producer Kim Crowther is to step down from her position after two-and-a-half years.
She will be replaced by former Doctor Who series producer Phil Collinson in the second half of next year, just a few months before the show's 50th anniversary celebrations.

Speaking of her decision to stand down, Crowther said: "Coronation Street is very special to me. It's been a huge privilege to work with such a wonderful cast, production and writing team. But after a couple of great years, I'm looking forward to reintroducing myself to my children."

She continued: "I'm delighted to be passing the baton to Phil, and wish him all the best for what should be a spectacular fiftieth year for the show."

Crowther joined (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/news/a79913/new-corrie-emmerdale-producers-named.html) Coronation Street in November 2007, succeeding Steve Frost as the soap's showrunner.
Collinson will begin working at Corrie's Manchester home at Granada Studios from March to allow for a substantial handover period, before he officially takes office from late summer. He will work alongside Weatherfield's executive producer Kieran Roberts.

http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/09/48/160x120_corrie_phil_collinson.jpg

Of his appointment, Collinson said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Corrie, the nation's favourite street and a show I've been a huge fan of all my life. It goes without saying that it’s a tremendous honour to be entrusted with building on Coronation Street's success and creating the must-see storylines for 2010 and beyond."He went on: "Kim will be a tough act to follow but I will be working with one of the best teams in the business and I can’t wait to get stuck in."

Director of ITV Studios John Whiston commented: "We are delighted Phil has agreed to join ITV Studios and carry on the fantastic, creative work that Kim has spearheaded. Phil is a hands-on producer, with a fine track record in shaping much-loved and treasured programming, and I have no doubt he will bring all that talent to Coronation Street.

“I would like to thank Kim for her immense contribution to the show. Kim's sheer hard work and her boundless imagination are the qualities that have continued to keep Coronation Street as fresh and exciting as ever as it enters its 50th year."

He added: "Kim leaves Corrie in fantastically good health, having increased total audience share in the last quarter as recent storylines around Tony, Carla, Maria and Roy Cropper have been delivering spectacularly large audiences day in day out this autumn. This achievement is testament to the skill and talent of Kim and her team."

Earlier this month, EastEnders' executive producer Diederick Santer announced (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a184853/kirkwood-replaces-santer-as-enders-exec.htm) his decision to vacate office, making way for ex-Hollyoaks producer Bryan Kirkwood.

I'm glad Kim's leaving. For a while now the whole show has needed over hauling and brought back to its roots i.e character driven comedy and drama. It's been far too plot driven with one dimensional characters for too long, I hope this new producer sorts things out.

I agree, the Tony stuff has been excellent, but on the whole the quality hasn't been there. Short term storylines aren't enough to sustain an on going soap. It's a hard job, and I don't think an ex Emmerdale Storyliner is really appropriate for Corrie producer. This new bloke sounds promising though :)

Scarlett.
27-11-2009, 08:22 PM
An ex-Corrie storyliner was good for Emmerdale though xD

but yeah, Phil has a lot of experience, thing is, with this Tony storyline, its evenutally reached nothing, the scene with Roy was good but its nothing really, Danny and Jamie had a fight in a canal, and Danny did more damage

flemin
27-11-2009, 08:27 PM
I haven't even been watching it tbh. I know what you mean though, it's just nothingness. They didn't need to keep flogging this Tony stuff, seems like shameless headline grabbing to me, or they know there's nothing else in the show worth watching perhaps?

Scarlett.
27-11-2009, 08:28 PM
Probably, I actually find Peter, Leanne, Simon, Eddie, Anna and Gary the best characters nowadays

flemin
27-11-2009, 08:31 PM
I particularly like Peter and Leanne, but they're two old characters. Most of Kim's newcomers have failed and been axed by now.

Scarlett.
27-11-2009, 08:32 PM
Indeed, the Windasses are good though, they were like the Mortons mk.II :D

flemin
27-11-2009, 08:38 PM
LoL, I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. The dad reminds me of Frank Gallagher off Shameless. Speaking of Shameless, that has excellent characters that function really well.

The thing about Corrie is that the stories are born out of chacacter, not the other way round like Eastenders and I think they've lost touch of that recently. Think of the Tracey, Roy, baby swap thing. Sounded absurd on paper, but it worked so well because of the characters involved. The Kevin and Molly thing seems so forced and out of character which is why everyone hates it.

Basically if they get the cast and characters right, then the show is on its way.

Scarlett.
27-11-2009, 08:41 PM
Indeed, the characters I mentioned are great, because they're natural, where as a lot of current storylines are...well I mean come on...not very impressivem and I love Eddie for that reason xD

Maggie Jones, who played Corrie battle-axe Blanche Hunt, has sadly passed away aged 75.
The much-loved actress had been making a slow recovery after falling ill in October, but her condition deteriorated early on Wednesday morning and she died peacefully in her sleep at the Salford Royal Hospital.
William Roache, who plays on-screen son-in-law Ken Barlow, payed tribute to Maggie who has starred as the pensioner since 1974.

“Maggie was a big part of the Barlow family and a brilliant actress,” he said. “She was a tower of strength, physically frail but mentally strong as an ox and sharp as someone half her age. She had an amazing dry wit and was as funny, if not funnier than Blanche.” He added: “I don’t think Maggie ever realised how much she was loved not only by everyone on the show but by the millions of Blanche fans out there. She will be greatly missed.”

Coronation Street Executive Producer Kieran Roberts said: “Maggie was a much-loved colleague and a wonderful actress who turned Blanche into a true Coronation Street icon. She will be hugely missed by Coronation Street’s many millions of viewers and by everyone who works on Coronation Street. Our thoughts and prayers go to Maggie’s sister Joan at this very sad time.”

Maggie’s agent Katie Threlfall said: “Maggie was a rare treasure; incredibly kind, honest and loved by so many. It has been such a privilege to work with her, and we will miss her dearly.”

Maggie appeared in more than 830 episodes of Coronation Street and her barbed one-line comments made her one of the best-loved soap characters of all time.

Our thoughts are with Maggie's family and friends at this difficult time.
Blanche's best lines

Blanche: “Good looks are a curse, Deirdre. You and Kenneth should count yourselves lucky.”

“He’s a looney and she’s a man.”
Blanche talking about Roy and Hayley Cropper

Blanche telling Liz off for leaving her washing drying all over the sitting room. “Kenneth doesn’t want to stare at thongs all day. The man’s an intellectual!”

Ken has just got down on one knee to propose to Deirdre and she’s turned him down. Blanche says: “Well, if you leave it much longer he won’t be able to get up again!”

Blanche to Tracy who’s in a good mood “You look remarkably chipper. Trod on a snail?”

When Tracy arrives back from her holiday with Charlie, having left Amy at home with the Barlows, Blanche says: “You should have bought her a T-shirt with ‘I’m your mother’ on it.”

Messages from other cast members

The cast of Coronation Street have begun to pay tribute to Weatherfield legend Maggie Jones

The 75-year-old actress, who played Blanche Hunt on the ITV soap, passed away (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/s3/coronationstreet/news/a189606/corrie-star-maggie-jones-dies-aged-75.html) in hospital earlier today after losing a long battle with illness.

Katherine Kelly, who portrays barmaid Becky McDonald, said: “Our Maggie is irreplaceable. No words can truly describe how fabulous she was. I feel blessed to have known her."

Sean Tully, actor Antony Cotton, commented: "I am absolutely devastated to hear the sad news about Maggie. I will remember her as a friend and a colleague - a brilliant woman - smart, honest and laugh-out-loud funny. But I will also remember her as the public will - as the unstoppable Blanche Hunt. Sharper than a Velociraptor with a flick knife, she always said just what you wanted to hear. "

He added: "In Coronation Street, with the bright lights of Weatherfield all competing to illuminate the Rovers Return, there was Maggie as Blanche - a laser beam. We'll miss you, kid."

Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, said: "Maggie was a big part of the Barlow family and a brilliant actress. She was a tower of strength, physically frail but mentally strong as an ox and sharp as someone half her age. She had an amazing dry wit and was as funny if not funnier than Blanche. We were great crossword partners, we sat through Tracy's trial scenes doing the crossword together.

"I don't think Maggie ever realised how much she was loved not only by everyone on the show but by the millions of Blanche fans out there. She will be greatly missed."

Coronation Street executive producer Kieran Roberts stated: "Maggie was a much-loved colleague and a wonderful actress who turned Blanche into a true Coronation Street icon. She will be hugely missed by Coronation Street's many millions of viewers and by everyone who works on Coronation Street. Our thoughts and prayers go to Maggie's sister Joan at this very sad time."

Jones's agent Katie Threlfall said: "Maggie was a rare treasure; incredibly kind, honest and loved by so many. It has been such a privilege to work with her, and we will miss her dearly."

I'm glad they are dedicating the episode to her, the idiots at Digital Spy are having a go at ITV for not doing it yesterday, it seems rather disrespectful for them to really really want a memorial at the end of an episode, as ITV might have been planning a tribute

Scarlett.
03-12-2009, 07:22 PM

But Maggie Jones was excellent. Sadly missed. Great!

Story from earlier today

Coronation Street this morning confirmed that tonight's episode of the Weatherfield soap will be dedicated to Maggie Jones, who passed away (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/news/a189606/corrie-star-maggie-jones-dies-aged-75.html) yesterday at the age of 75.

Digital Spy forum members were last night confused (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1174727) when a tribute to the actress - who played comedy legend Blanche Hunt - failed to appear, as is the usual protocol when a soap actor or actress dies.

However, a spokesperson for the show told me: "We felt that for those people who had not heard the news, it would be a huge shock for them to hear it as they settled down to watch Corrie."

They added: "Tonight is a great Barlow episode (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/spoilers/a187203/george-offers-to-lend-peter-money-for-the-bar.html) and will be dedicated to Maggie with a tribute."

Maggie's final scenes with the soap, which were filmed before she taken ill (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/news/a181729/corries-blanche-critical-in-hospital.html) in October, aired during the 8.30pm episode (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/spoilers/a185902/marias-devastated-by-tonys-confession.html) on Friday, November 20 at 8.30pm.

However, I can confirm that due to the nature of episodes being filmed out of sync, she will appear in two more that will air on Monday and Friday of next week.

I love Coronation Street.

One of big reasons is humour. I loved Blanche's dry sense of humour, specially she would say it with straight face.

Good bye, Maggie. Thank you for entertain us for a long time.

_____________

Boxer Stephen Bell has signed up for a guest role in ITV soap Coronation Street.

The 34-year-old, who was captain of the England boxing team at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, is playing a soldier in bad boy Gary Windass's (Mikey North) new Army plotline.

Bell started filming for the drama in Manchester today. It is believed that he arrived on set with a black eye and cut to his face after losing out to John Simpson during a boxing match in Newcastle on Saturday.

Speaking to The Times, he commented: "They knew I was boxing this weekend, but I hope they won't be too upset."

Meanwhile, a Weatherfield source told DS: "Stephen's playing a squaddie friend of Gary as part of his Army storyline. He's in for four episodes to begin with but he may be seen more in the future, depending on how Gary's storyline plays out."

Bell, who has previously appeared in Shameless and worked as a model, will be seen on screen for the first time at the end of February.

CORRIE is poised for an explosive child kidnap plot - as little Simon Barlow is whisked away by evil George Wilson.
George snatches his grandson from the school gates, leaving his dad Peter at his wits' end.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) calls the cops and goes to George's house to confront him.

The old man, played by Raffles star Anthony Valentine, goads him into losing his rag.

So Peter lunges at him - and ends up getting arrested after pushing away a cop who tries to intervene.

In tear-jerking scenes, Simon is left sobbing for his dad - and Peter must watch from the police van as his son is left in the crook's clutches.

By the time Peter is released, evil George has already gone into hiding in Blackpool with the boy.

In the dramatic scenes to air in March, George uses his sway with the Weatherfield authorities to get legal custody over Simon (Alex Bain).

But will he succeed in his wicked plan to steal Simon away for good?

Actress Kate Ford is set to return to Coronation Street as Tracy Barlow.

This spring, we will see Tracy in prison where she'll become embroiled in a story involving another well loved character.

Ken and Deirdre's only daughter is currently serving a jail sentence for murdering her boyfriend and Corrie bad boy Charlie Stubbs.

After this initial first stint of a couple of months, Tracy will be back in Weatherfield again at the end of the year.
