Italian just for the pizza really. Gnocchi and pasta are good too. Tiramisu is GROSS. Portuguese custard tarts are amazing but I don't know too much about their main dishes but I'm pretty sure they include a lot of meat/fish anyway

I’ve lived in Portugal and their cuisine isn’t the greatest.

I've been in portugal a lot and to my recollection, their speciality is things like soups. Other than that, it's just standard Mediterranean fare

I live on Portugal and I'd still choose Italian.

One of the best meals I had in Portugal was an absolutely perfectly cooked steak. It's really all about the chef and the quality of the produce and has very little to do with the origin of the cuisine

Can you explain why you chose Portuguese cuisine to compare to Italian for this thread Redway?

Because it's a rather unusual debate so I imagine Portuguese cuisine must have left an impression on you at some point

Honestly, I was drawing analogy from Nandos/peri-peri chicken, which is, of-course, Portuguese-inspired. It’s also quite an interesting blend of French and Mediterranean, which a lot of people won’t know about and, of course, I wasn’t betting that swathes of people have visited a Porto restaurant. But it’s still a valid comparison for those who know.

Off topic, but have you been to Porto? It’s where I lived over there. One of my fave cities ever.

I haven’t. My experience of it is limited to awareness of Ken and gold-digger Cassie constantly banging on about it on Corrie at the moment.

I’ll add it to my bucket-list, still. I’ll add it to my bucket-list.

Nearly every Italian cook is a maestro then.

I wasn’t expecting Portugal to do so badly in the poll, I have to confess.

I was in Alburfeira a few years ago, the food there was great, as in choice wise but by that I mean we went Chinese restaurants, Indian restaurants, Mexican restaurants. We went to one that I think was possibly Portuguese and I remember thinking the food was tasty but I can't remember what it was specifically

It’s not a very well known cuisine tbf. Would have been better pitching Spanish vs Italian.
