I think Jamie Foxxs tweet was pretty ignorant of the condition and unfair towards John Davidson. I do think the BBC are at fault though for not editing out the offensive language (as I believe they did with other things, someone shouting Free Palestine I think was edited out?) And of course it must have been horrible for the 2 presenters to hear that being shouted regardless

Honestly, neither of those things really applied for me. What it showed me was that the same word can carry completely different weight depending on who’s saying it, why they’re saying it, and the history behind it.

Because of that, I think we all need to be careful with language. A word that feels casual to one person can hit someone else in a totally different way, and it’s worth keeping that in mind before we throw it around.

I get why people were frustrated with what Jamie Foxx said, but I can also see his point given that he didn’t have the full picture at the time. It’s easy to react strongly when you think you’re calling out something harmful, even if the situation turns out to be more complicated.

That said, I do think the BBC should’ve handled the broadcast better. If they were already editing out other things — like the “Free Palestine” shout — then leaving in language that could be taken as offensive feels inconsistent. And regardless of intent, it must have been awful for the presenters to hear that shouted at them live.

of an incident at the
2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards]

ref: LBC
Filmmaker Jonte Richardson has resigned as a Bafta judge following the "utterly unforgivable" handling of a racial slur incident at the recent film awards ceremony. The incident involved Tourette's campaigner John Davidson shouting a racial slur during a presentation by actors Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo. Richardson stated he could not contribute to an organization that "repeatedly failed to safeguard the dignity of its black guests, members and the black creative community" and has a "long history of systemic racism." Bafta and the BBC both issued apologies for the incident, with Bafta taking full responsibility and the BBC apologising for not editing the slur out of the broadcast. Richardson expressed scepticism about the apologies, suggesting Bafta remains "inherently unsafe for black and disabled people" and that future changes would be performative

Not sure its good on him at alL? what about John Davidson the Tourettes sufferer? no empathy, no understanding, its all me me me

I don’t think it’s fair to call it “me, me, me” either. He did mention Bafta’s Black guests, members and creative talent, and he also raised the issue of disability. And yes — Tourette’s is a disability.

That’s why this whole situation is so complicated. We can criticise Bafta’s handling of the broadcast, but you also have to recognise that John Davidson didn’t choose to say that word. It was a tic, not intent. Any discussion about accountability has to include that reality too.

Hopefully he'll do a bit of research on the condition after all this hulabaloo. He seems like a nice guy generally. Shame this happened.

I get what you're saying, and I don't disagree that this whole situation has been overwhelming for everyone involved. But I didn't really agree that Foxx or Richardson deserves the level of criticism they're getting in this thread. Foxx reacted in the moment with limited understanding of Tourette's — and if that's the case, then the answer is education, not piling on.

People can respond however they feel in the moment, especially when they don't have the full context. That doesn't make them malicious. And Richardson's concerns about how the incident was handled don't automatically mean anyone is making light of John Davidson's diagnosis.

The reaction towards both of them feels a bit disproportionate, considering they were responding to a shocking situation, not causing it. If anything, this should be a chance for everyone — including Foxx and Richardson — to learn more about the condition.

I'm not sure what else bafta could have done to appease that fool that resigned over this.. If they had said no black presenters this year in case the touretttes man shouts out the N word, or sorry touretttess man you can't come in case you shout out the N word. Both would have gotten them slated, especially the 1st one, by the fool that resigned.

Baf5a did the correct thing, they invited both, and then expected everyone to act like adults if it happened..
Most did, unfortunately others didn't.
