I think your generalization are a bit off. I think you get a loss less nerds ganging up to poke fun at Dangerous Mickey who can't add his fractions than you would Mickey and his chums doing the same for sports related mishaps. I have certainly never been privy to much 'you can't divide? you fag' type stuff in my lifetime.
There is a difference between a group of mates mucking about laughing amongst themselves about the one who is crap at soccer and the more sinister ideas I'm talking about, where the 'fattys' and 'geeks' and 'goths' and whatnot are routinely picked on by the type of people who usually don't exactly grow up to be cancer cures.
I just generally found when I was growing up that people who target others for being fat or geeky or whatnot were ... well ... loosers? Most of the ones I know are as ignorant today as they were way back when.
I'm not laughing at them today because they can't count change, I'm laughing at them because of the general lack of humanity they once and in most cases still posess.
