The whole idea that a film or a game can influence a person to commit violent acts is just a scare tactic that politicians use to score votes. I personally detest anyone who gives those ideas weight since it turns films/games into a scapegoat. 'It's not Jimmy's fault he stole a car, he saw it on GTA first.' If someone goes out to commit a violent act, it's their choice to do so. Games and films can't influence or force anyone to do anything they don't want to do.

I think it can be a factor, if the person isolates themselves from the real world and the games or films become almost a reality for them. If that happens with kids/teens, then that is ultimately the parents fault imo
