I make sexual jokes and ridicule my wife all the time, as she does me but we have been married for 42 years and are very very happy and in love. I guess we possess the ability to forgive and forget and apply common sence most of the time.

I agree. I told that ex of mine that he'd meet someone who didn't mind his jokes, and that he needn't change: it was just that I personally had a problem with it. That's when he told me that all his ex girlfriends had said the same thing.
Having said that, he once told me an anecodote which he thought was hilarious about a young woman who had done a short stint in his office. She had to make a speech before leaving, and the boss had utterly humiliated her deliberately by making a crude, sexual joke at her expense before she sat down. The whole room (all men) just about wet their pants with laughter. Yeah, it was a joke, but it was used as a weapon in that case. Had she been an older woman, she'd have told him where to go, walked out and filed a sexual discrimination suit, but being a younger, insecure woman, she sat down and tried to conceal her humiliation. When I expressed my disgust, his response was that no-one liked her anyway, so it served her right.
