I don't think it was because she didn't know his name though, they'd all been saying 'Austin' right before she said it, and then followed it with "Austin's gay isn't he?" (or something like that). So it seemed more like she was trying to make a generic point of "why would a straight man be ok with sharing a bed with a gay boy", rather than not knowing his name and just saying it to identify him. For me it's less about the actual term 'gay boy' (even though it was still unnecessary) and more about the point she was trying to make.
