That was a fairly convincing win. Liverpool didn't compete on any level really. Poor old Carragher probably has nightmares everytime he thinks of playing Chelsea.

Chelsea out fought and out played them in every department which is amazing when you consider that Essien and Deco weren't really at the races today.

Well done to Arsenal too, watched the match - good game, deserved a win, glad you guys won by that many!

PS. After 80 mins of the Chelsea game I saw Drogba dive twice and fall rightly only once. He doesn't need to dive, he has immense skill, but he dived.

I was hoping for a draw but this does mean Arsenal go into 4th with a game in hand with everyone above them.

Still far too dodgy at the back though. Beautiful to watch going forward but you can't be defending like that against the big boys.

Yeah we are a bit dodgy mannone done pretty well coulda been better.

But if we can score 4 against utd.. then it doesnt matter if we conceed 2.

My predictions so far are:

1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Man City

But 3/4 is interchangeable atm, so far it's Arsenal but can easily change!!

setanta
04-10-2009, 06:34 PM
I just think Benitez should be shown the door. Don't like the cut of his gib at all. Yeah, but I think United, Chelsea and Arsenal will be above them this year and City could really push them for that fourth spot. Villa vs City will be very interesting to watch tomorrow.

30stone
04-10-2009, 06:52 PM
Yeah I am not a big fan of benitez too.

I think right now..

Exactly the same as Lauren..

Though 5th could be any of City, Villa, Tottenham or Everton, it depends how consistant they can be.

Lauren

Arsenal Set For Glory This Season - Arsene Wenger
Frenchman insists Young Gunners will end wait for silverware this term...

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident that the club's wait for a trophy will be ended this season, as his team of young talents finally blossoms into the finished article.

And the Frenchman also turned down the chance to work for Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer, because he believes that something special is being built at the Emirates Stadium.

"I have a great respect for Real Madrid, it is the club of my childhood. But I am involved in a project at Arsenal," he told The News of the World.

"We have developed our style. There is a close bond with the players. That creates a responsibility.

"I predict the fulfilment of a dream this season. We have not won a title [since the FA Cup] for four years now, but in those four years we have come very close, again and again, to winning the English Premier League and even the Champions League.

"I think the team is now reaching maturity. And a team performance can create something magical. If that works and the entire team is electrified, it's fantastic."

Wenger became Arsenal's longest serving manager last week, celebrating his thirteenth anniversary in charge of the club. The French coach has no intentions of retiring just yet, and will not speculate as to who his eventual successor might be.

"I will not nominate my successor. I have a very strong relationship with this club but it is important that everyone does what they are paid to do and my job is not to pick the next manager," he added.

"If I am asked my opinion, then I will give it. But I do not want to be seen as a shadow on the next manager.

"I would like to leave the club in fantastic shape and give the next man the opportunity to do even better than I have done.

"I want to leave a team behind that has potential and not a team which has no good players in it.

"I want to leave behind a club in a good financial situation, with a proper structure in place which is geared towards performing to an even higher level in the next 10-15 years.

"Standing on the sideline I often look like an iceberg because I have learned to control my emotions.

"But when everything harmonises, I am passionate. I call it the team's soul - if that is in order, anything is possible."

Arsenal should have dealt with that clearance from Robinson in the first place and as for the second, they've been exposed on a number of occassions by fast counter attacking sides. They're very vulnerable to it.

Theres nothing wrong with you going forward.... just still feel that you're susceptible to the odd defensive lapse. I never feel that you'll keep a clean sheet. Fabregas is very special in that form and yes, Rosicky is world class. Arshavin blows too hot and cold for my liking but he's a game winner.

In 8 games Arsenal scorers..

Fabregas : 4

Arshavin : 2

The Daily Mail says Aston Villa, Wolves, Hull and Newcastle are monitoring Campbell's situation after the Premier League said they would look into his appeal to allow him to join a team before the January transfer window opens.

Under Fifa rules, the 35-year-old is barred from signing for another club after walking out on Notts County.

Campbell, who has received backing from PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor, will need to prove he had just cause for leaving County just 29 days into his five-year deal .

Following one of the best performances of his career, Cesc Fabregas once again confirmed his commitment to Arsenal.

The Spanish schemer was instrumental in the 6-2 victory over Blackburn yesterday, providing four assists, scoring once and he also hit the bar.

Fabregas said after the match: "There's always speculation I don't like it here but I am committed to this club 100 per cent."

The 22-year-old central midfielder added: "It's my seventh season here and it's hard to hear people say they think I'm not committed enough. It was a good time to show them I really love this club."

Fabregas has now begun season 2009/2010 at a ferocious pace, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in nine games in the Premier League and Champions League.

ABOVE: Searching for massive new investment 4th October 2009 By Harry PrattYour Shout ( 0 )
ASTON VILLA supremo Randy Lerner is searching for massive new investment – so his club can compete with loaded Manchester City.

The American tycoon, at the Villa helm since August 2006, has just held talks with several billionaire businessmen from the Far East about possible cash injections.

It is the clearest sign yet that Lerner, 47, who also owns NFL outfi t Cleveland Browns, accepts his money alone is no longer enough to take Villa to the top of the English game.

Villa face Man City tomorrow night in what should be a cracking clash. But off the pitch, Martin O’Neill’s men are struggling to keep pace with the country’s richest outfit.

When he bought Aston Villa for £64.5million, Lerner (right) was, with the exception of Chelsea’s billionaire boss
Roman Abramovich and the Glazer family at Man United, the wealthiest football chief in the top fi ght.

But the financial goalposts in the Premier League have moved since then amid the recession and the arrival of City’s wealthy Arab owners.

Compared with the £1trillion fortune of the Abu Dhabi United Group, Lerner’s personal wealth of around £750m appears to be small change.

He no longer even makes the English game’s top-ten rich list. And that is a fact which was highlighted during the last transfer window when Villa, who had splashed more than £100m over the previous two summers, spent a mere £25m.

In contrast, City blew close to £200m – including £12m to secure Villa’s infl uential England star Gareth Barry.

Though Villa did manage to keep winger Ashley Young, Lerner reckons that may not be the case next time.

That’s why he has decided to act now and enlist the fi nancial clout of other major powerbrokers around the globe to counter City’s rapid rise up the ladder. And fi rst step on Lerner’s agenda is to transform Villa Park into a state-of-the-art 55,000 all-seater stadium.

Villa withdrew their ground from the list of venues for the 2012 Olympics last Tuesday, citing ‘substantial’ redevelopment between now and then as the reason.

★MARTIN O’NEILL is convinced City’s financial power makes them the most likely club to crack the big four.

He said: “It’s amazing to think City’s wealth surpasses Chelsea.

“Well done to them – and I mean that.

“They are a genuine threat to the big four. “I said it at the start of the season and everything since then has confirmed my view.”

Premier League big boys Arsenal, Liverpool,Man City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham were all strongly linked with Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar in the summer prior to him joining AC Milan. At the time the Serie A club seemed to have got a bargain at just €15 million. However, after a poor start to his Milan career it would seem that the English clubs may missed out on a potential flop.

Huntelaar has now played 6 times in Serie A and once in the Champions League without scoring despite starting four of those games. AC coach Leonardo is under intense pressure after a miserable start to his tenure as the club sit 12th in Serie A after winning just two of their seven games. The Rossoneri were also humbled by rivals Inter 4-0 in the Milan derby which has increased the pressure tenfold. Unfortunately main summer signing Huntelaar has failed to impress while first choice target Luis Fabiano has 4 goals to his name already in Spain.

Teenage starlet Ignasi Miquel signs professional terms with Arsenal
Arsenal have announced that defender Ignasi Miquel has signed professional terms with the club.

The 17-year-old, who can play on the left or though the middle, has played for Arsenal's Under 18 side and twice for the reserves.

He joined from Union Deportiva Cornella for a fee believed to be around £1m, depending on appearances. He previously spent five years with Catalan giants Barcelona.

Arsenal reportedly beat off competition from Manchester United and Villareal to sign the teenager.

Manager Arsene Wenger has always put his faith in youth, and it may be that Miquel gets his chance in the first team this season.

The Gunners captain made four goals, scored a scorcher himself and also struck the bar before going off to a standing ovation. He said: "There's always speculation I don't like it here but I am committed to this club 100 per cent."

The FA will decide whether to charge Sir Alex Ferguson with misconduct after the United manager accused referee Alan Wiley of being physically unfit following the 2-2 draw against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday. Ferguson lashed out after his below-par team needed a late own-goal to rescue a point. Afterwards he accused Wiley of being in poor shape in a remarkable attack filmed by United's in-house TV station.

Harry Redknapp is likely to face further questioning in the long-running investigation into football transfers this week. The Tottenham Hotspur manager is expected to be interviewed by investigators from Revenue and Customs, with Peter Crouch's 2002 move from Portsmouth to Aston Villa under the spotlight.

James Milner has reminded Aston Villa supporters that Gareth Barry "served the club brilliantly", ahead of the England midfielder's return to the Midlands on Monday night. Barry is expected to be targeted by a section of the home fans for his decision to reject a new contract and join Manchester City in the summer.

Aston Villa, Wolves, Hull and Newcastle are monitoring Sol Campbell's situation after the Premier League said they would look into his appeal to allow him to join a team before the January transfer window opens. Under Fifa rules, the 35-year-old is barred from signing for another club after walking out on Notts County.

A deal has been arranged in principle for troubled Portsmouth owner Sulaiman al-Fahim to sell the club on to Ali al-Faraj, the Saudi tycoon who has agreed to provide a £5 million emergency loan to cover the players’ wages for September and keep the club solvent for a month.

Ambitious Notts County are ready to move for David Platt to become their new manager - under his old mate Sven Goran Eriksson. Platt has been out of football since a disastrous spell with neighbours Nottingham Forest and a better time in charge of England under-21s

David Sullivan insists he has not lined up a bid to buy West Ham United as he prepares to end his 16-year reign at Birmingham City. Sullivan is to formally stand down as a Birmingham director after selling his stake in the club to Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung.

Newcastle's former executive director Dennis Wise claims owner Mike Ashley will ignore a £100million bid from businessman Barry Moat and hold on to the club until next summer.

And its great with a draw because villa stay below us.

Arsenal are now 4th.
Liverpool 5th
City 6th.
All on 15 points.

City have a game in hand over us though and we have 1 over liverpool.
So city have 2 over liverpool.

And our goal difference is the best.

And i think this will be Fabregas' best season at Arsenal, and hopefully not his last.

Gillett points finger at Rafa
American defends Reds investment

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has reportedly claimed that Rafa Benitez is to blame for the club's failings rather than the owners.

The Reds have endured a difficult week, losing 2-0 to Fiorentina in the Champions League before going down by the same scoreline to title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Liverpool face a massive week after the international break with games against Sunderland, Lyon and Manchester United in the space of a week which could determine their campaign.

Gillett and fellow co-owner Tom Hicks have come under fire from Liverpool supporters since taking charge for shelving plans for Liverpool's new stadium and restricting Benitez's transfer budget.

However, Gillett in a report in the Daily Telegraph claims the American the pair have done more than their Premier League rivals to improve the financial footing of their club.

"We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club," Gillett is quoted as telling a representative of the fans' group Spirit of Shankly prior to Liverpool's 6-1 win over Hull last week.

"In the last 18 months, we have invested £128m on top of what has come in. That means it should be getting better.

"Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks, it's the manager, it's the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis.

"There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs."

Gillett also added that the £30million fee recouped from Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid "went straight back" into the club's transfer budget, which was already set at "£22-23m as part of our budgets".

Gillett added: "The club is in extraordinarily good financial condition. Far better than Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal.

"We have invested massively, we have put more money in than anyone other than Manchester City, with the craziness they have got."

BITE SIZE NEWS!

-Tomas Rosicky says he has not held talks with Arsenal over a new deal and is just focused on staying fit and healthy.
The Czech Republic ace has had a nightmare on the injury front since joining the Gunners and has only just got back into the side following hamstring problems over the last two years.

-Fulham are ready to offer Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko the chance to stay in London if he cannot force his way into Harry Redknapp's plans.
The Russia international has barely featured for Spurs this term although his chances have been hindered by a mild Achilles strain.

-Chelsea are set to make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira if they win their appeal against a transfer ban.
The Blues are unable to make any new signings during the next two transfer windows following the Gael Kakuta saga but they hope to have the ban lifted following an appeal.
If they are successful then reports claim that Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will make a move to bring Viera back to the Premiership after he fell out of favour with Inter.

-Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani is close to making his debut for Liverpool. The 25-year-old is recovering well from his ankle injury that kept him sidelined since August.

-Promising Everton forward Jose Baxter has been arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply as well as having counterfeit money.
The 17-year-old has been released on police bail after being arrested on Monday in the Kirkby area of Liverpool along with two men aged 29 and 34.

-Tottenham are being linked with a move for midfielder Sulley Muntari as his days at Inter Milan look to be numbered.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp knows all about the player after signing him for Portsmouth when he was in charge at Fratton Park and a reunion could be on the cards.

-"Arsenal are poised to move for Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour."
The daily tabloid add: "The Belgian international is currently out with a broken foot but Arsene Wenger is a big fan. The Gunners boss has sent scouts to watch Defour but knows he faces competition from Valencia and Everton for his signature."
Defour, 21, is a central midfielder considered one of the brightest young players in Belgium. He can play all across the midfield as well as in an advanced position closer to the forwards. - Worth 10m Euro.

Allnews from different big clubs.

Carlo Ancelotti always goes for the older players, doesn't he? Viera might be a good investment and would give Essien more freedom.

Fulham really need a good striker cuz I don't rate the two they have right now at all.

Looks like Redknapp doesn't fancy Palacios that much if he's going for Muntari, or maybe it's just back up.

30stone
06-10-2009, 11:56 AM
Well Arsenal want him to.
Essien and Alex song will both be away for like 3 months for africa cup nations tournament.
So someone will get him.

And yeah he could be a great player at fulham.

And Muntari is meant to be great like better, he was tracked by liverpool man utd and arsenal before tottenham.

setanta
06-10-2009, 12:00 PM
Yep, the African Nations and the transfer ban will really effect Chelsea's chances this year.

Muntari is quality.... Portsmouth miss him big time.

30stone
06-10-2009, 12:05 PM
Yeah for sure, redknapp only every buys players from the clubs he used to manage he needs to broaden his view.

And yeah Chelsea could struggle, this season i doubt, only problem chelsea have is Mikel and Essien will be at cup nations, so other than ballack they dont have many people to fill the position, maybe zhirkov, be good that zhirkov and jcole are fit.

Wonder if they will win their appeal the ban..

setanta
06-10-2009, 12:15 PM
Honestly can't say if they'll win their appeal. Does put them in an awful little pickle if they don't. I suppose Belletti could play the holding midfield position or Zhirkov could partner Ballack. I don't know.... it's really dodgy. Least Cole's coming back for you.

Papers have already started talking about Rosicky leaving Arsenal because he hasn't been offered a new contract yet, his current one runs out next year, but i believe wenger will offer a new contract when Rosicky is performing on a regular basis.

Adebayor stated he was "forced" to leave Arsenal because they wanted the money.

Rangers midfielder Pedro Mendes has been recalled to the Portugal national squad for their games against Hungary and Malta after more than a year in the wilderness.

The former Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder, 30, has not played for his country since 2003, with his last call-up coming in August 2008.

The European giants are struggling to qualify for next summer's World Cup in South Africa as they lie third in Group 1, level on points with fourth-placed Hungary.

The double-header of home fixtures will determine their fate and boss Carlos Queiroz has named a strong squad, despite a number of injuries.

Malaga striker Edinho returns to the squad, while midfielders Tiago, Nuno Assis, Duda and Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa hope to shake off knocks in time to feature.

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start against Hungary after recovering from the ankle injury which kept him out of Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at the weekend.

Portugal are relying on Sweden to drop points from their corresponding final two games to advance to the play-offs, where they could expect to be seeded.

Hats Off to Arsene Wenger
Posted by David Young 2 hours, 9 minutes ago

Six goals from six different players at Ashburton Grove on Sunday was the product of a sensational attacking performance by the Gunners as they thrashed Blackburn and signed off for the international break on a high. Any complaints about the Arsenal defending - which was well below par - were completely drowned out by the symphony of goals at the other end.

Despite Blackburn taking the lead twice in the first half, Arsenal had plenty in the tank by way of response. Their approach play and finishing was simply breathtaking at times and the performance - at least from an offensive perspective - was an appropriate one to mark a week that saw Arsene Wenger become the longest-serving manager in the club’s history after his 13 years in charge.

Many column inches have been devoted to the man over the past week. He has not only been praised for his contribution to Arsenal but also to English football as a whole and all the accolades are well-deserved. It would not be a disservice to the memory of Herbert Chapman to refer to Wenger has the "Chapman of the modern era". Chapman was the manager to establish the Gunners as a footballing force and made them the best-supported club in the country back in the late-20s and early-30s. When one sits back to consider the history of the club it is impossible not to draw comparisons between the two men and the respective impacts they have made.

Chapman was a man of vision, drive and unshakeable ambition who took over at the helm at a time when the club had lofty aspirations which were not being translated into results on the pitch. By the time of his sudden and unexpected death from pneumonia in 1934 Arsenal had won the League and the FA Cup for the first time. Chapman also had also put white sleeves on the red shirts to create an identity for the club recognised the world over. He was also the prime mover behind many innovations that we take for granted today - numbers on shirts and floodlit football to name but two. Most importantly, Chapman had turned the club into a giant and laid the foundations for the years of dominance that followed.

In his 13 years, Arsene Wenger has also transformed Arsenal Football Club both on and off the pitch and his influence on the league as a whole cannot be underestimated. Since 1996, the club has enjoyed an unparalleled period of success. He has taken the club into a new era and played an instrumental role in the building of a new stadium and training facilities. The club has the infrastructure in place to retain its status as one of Europe’s biggest clubs for years to come. He has revolutionised training methods and insisted that football be played in an entertaining way. This is some feat bearing in mind the pressures and expectations the modern media (and fans) place on managers and players to deliver trophies year after year. Amid all the hype, Wenger has never forgotten that it is a beautiful game and it should be played for the enjoyment of spectators. Arsene Wenger joins Herbert Chapman in the Arsenal pantheon as one of the true architects of the club and an indisputable legend.

We now enter yet another terminally boring international break and have to wait until 17th October to face Birmingham City at Ashburton Grove. It is fair to say that in the "club versus country" debate my stance on international football lies somewhere between "couldn’t care less" and "completely disinterested". It is nothing more than an annoying interruption to the far more enjoyable and obsessive day-to-day, match-to-match journey that we go on whilst following Arsenal. It also does not compute that for maybe a dozen days a year I suddenly have to think that Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and John Terry have miraculously turned into "the good guys" just because I happen to have been born on the same land mass as them.

Anyway, as always, we hope that our players come back from their respective postings uninjured and ready to pick up where they left off when the real business starts again in a fortnight.
