Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is reportedly earning £139,000 a week.

The former Portsmouth man signed with the Reds for £17million in the off season but it is his salary that is causing a stir.

The weekly wage he is earning is more than Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, making him the highest paid full-back in world football.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says a deal with Blackburn Rovers for Pascal Chimbonda is almost finalised.

The two clubs have agreed a fee for the French defender with the deal likely to be completed this week.

After Spurs demolished Doncaster away 5-1 in the Carling Cup, Redknapp confirmed that Chimbonda was on his way out.

"Well I sold one (a player) on the way up here, we sold Chimbonda," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"Well I think he was sold, he came up on the plane then he travelled across to Blackburn I think.

"The chairman agreed a fee with Blackburn for him so he travelled over there. I don't know if the deal has been done but certainly it's very close to being done so we ended up one short but it's not a problem.”

Bolton manager Gary Megson has launched a bid to re-sign Kevin Nolan.

The defender joined Newcastle United last season and Megson is keen to bring him back to Reebok Stadium on a season-long loan.

It is understood that Nolan’s wages are hurting Newcastle who were relegated to the Championship last season and the club is willing to offload him.

Megson wants to complete the deal prior to the Trotters home fixture against Liverpool on Saturday.

Everton manager David Moyes has admitted the club needs more signings before the end of the transfer window.

The Toffees boss recently lost key defender Joleon Lescott to Manchester City and is now intent on bringing in some new faces.

"I would be disappointed if we didn't get at least four, maybe more," Moyes told Everton's official website.

"We've made quite a bit of progress I feel and maybe I'll be able to announce something shortly, but not yet.

"The job is to try and make it (the squad) stronger every year and that's what we'll aim to do."

Stoke City have jumped in line for the services of Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth.

The German international has already been linked with Everton and Aston Villa and now the Potters have emerged as a genuine contender to land him.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is believed to be very keen on Huth and with Middlesbrough looking to sell before the transfer window closes, a deal looks increasingly likely.

Recent reports have suggested that Stoke are pushing hard for a deal to be done.

Everton are preparing a £6m offer for Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.

The 24-year-old Scotland international was earlier this month linked with a £10m offer from Tottenham Hotspur.

It is understood that Everton had been approached by an agent offering Brown and Celtic defender Stephen McManus but said they were not interested.

However, having missed out on other targets, they are now poised to make a move after watching Brown facing Arsenal in the Champions League.

Brown, who was in the Celtic side that lost 3-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday, was bought by Celtic for £4.4m from Hibernian in 2007.

Everton and Spurs were thought to be interested in Brown at that time as Celtic beat a host of clubs, including Glasgow rivals Rangers, Bolton Wanderers, Middlesbrough and Reading, to the midfielder's signature.

Celtic reportedly turned down a £9m offer from Portsmouth in January.

But economic conditions have taken a downturn and the Scottish Premier League runners-up recently announced that their profits had halved.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp this month admitted that he rated Brown, who ended the season as the SPFA Players' Player of the Year.

However, he played down suggestions that he was interested in signing a player who was also named among 14 players on world governing body Fifa's "ones to watch in 2009" list.

Brown, who won his 17th cap in Scotland's World Cup qualifying defeat by Norway, had recovered from a disappointing first season with Celtic during which he had to cope with injury, suspension and the death of his sister.

Like Brown, McManus missed the start of this season through injury and the Celtic captain has just returned to training in time to be linked with a move away from the club.

Celtic are believed to be willing to sell the 26-year-old or allow the Scotland defender to leave on loan, with Ipswich Town thought to be leading the interested clubs.

We're no doubt gonna get either Real, Juve or Inter; preferably Inter as they're the weaker of the other two. Rangers or Alkmaar would be nice though...

Out of pot three I think (hope) we'll get Besiktas/Olympiakos. Wanting to avoid the rest of the others.

Last pot, I'd take anybody BUT Wolfsburg. Surprised they're in the third pot tbh.

Draw I hope for:

ARSENAL
RANGERS
Besiktas
Urzicieni (who the ****?)

Predicted draw:

ARSENAL
Real Madrid
Stuttgart
Maccabi Haifa

Scoot Brown is a ****..as is the rest of their team.

Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati has demanded a UEFA ban for Arsenal striker Eduardo over the way he won a penalty in last night's Champions League clash.

"It is not good when a guy does that," Donati said. "Artur pulled away from him and it was not a penalty. Everybody knew it. It is part of football and you can do nothing once the referee gives it. Eduardo said nothing to us - he could say nothing. My idea for life, not just for football, is to be honest but sometimes people are not honest.

"He could maybe in trouble for it. For me, it is the same as other incidents in the past. You have seen it a few times with the Rangers player and the other player - they were banned. If they UEFA think it is the same situation, he will probably be in trouble."

Boruc protested vociferously and even confronted Eduardo over his blatant deception. "It was not a penalty," said the simmering Pole afterwards. "I do not remember what I said to him - maybe I should learn more Croatian - but it changed the whole game."

Wow thats lovely.

Manchester City signing Joleon Lescott hopes Everton fans understand why he chose to leave.

"Of course it is going to bother me," he said.

"I had a good rapport with the fans and we got on well. I would like to think they understand I gave my all for Everton."

Not that Lescott wants to spend too much time talking about his old club.

Yet the 27-year-old has been accused of having a bad attitude by former manager David Moyes, who felt he made a mistake playing the defender in Everton's 6-1 home hammering by Arsenal on the opening day.

"I was disappointed in the comments about my attitude because they were not accurate," he said.

"I felt I conducted myself in the right way. If the players at Everton didn't think so I apologise.

"I also thought the criticism of my performance against Arsenal was a little bit unfair.

"I know it wasn't my finest performance for Everton. But I didn't think it was my worst either. It was a collective performance and Arsenal were better than us on the day."

Spartak Moscow are willing to pay Tottenham £10million to bring Roman Pavlyuchenko back to Russia.

Pavlyuchenko has been out of favour at White Hart Lane and fears losing his place in Guus Hiddink's World Cup squad without regular football, with Roma and Zenit St Petersburg among the other clubs linked with 27-year-old.

"We need a good striker," said Spartak coach Valery Karpin. "It's a bit too much. If the price was £10million we would seriously consider it."

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp also has Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch competing for places in attack, with Pavlyuchenko down in the pecking order.

If Pavlyuchenko does depart, Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy was among the targets Redknapp looked at over the summer who is still available, as Klaas Jan Huntelaar has moved to AC Milan.

Brazilian side Internacional claim to have rejected a £14million offer from Spurs for midfielder Sandro, who is valued at more than double that amount by his club.

Meanwhile, full-back Pascal Chimbonda is in talks with Blackburn about a move to Ewood Park, while Olympiacos have been linked with a move to take Mexico forward Giovani dos Santos on loan.

Arsenal

What they need Arsène Wenger has admitted that he is in the market for defensive cover and a defensive midfielder, as are, he says, "half the managers in the Premier League". Injuries exposed the thinness of his defensive resources at the end of last season. He cannot allow the same thing to happen again.

Possible targets Wenger has not ruled out a move for Patrick Vieira, despite the possibility seeming outlandish all along, and he has an interest in St Etienne's young midfielder Blaise Matuidi, although he denies that a move is afoot. He also likes the Fulham centre-half Brede Hangeland but he is reluctant to pay upwards of £10m. A late move for the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh should not be discounted.

Likelihood of buying: 6/10 As usual, Wenger will only move if he feels the price is right; he is quite happy with the composition of his squad as it is. It would be a surprise if he does not sign a defender, although that possibility may depend on whether they can sell Philippe Senderos. DH

In: Thomas Vermaelen (Ajax, £10m), Damián Martínez (Independiente, £1.2m)

Out: Emmanuel Adebayor (Manchester City, £25m), Kolo Touré (Manchester City, £14m), Abu Ogogo (Dagenham & Redbridge, free), Rene Steer (Oldham Athletic, free), Amaury Bischoff (released), Rui Fonte (released), Paul Rodgers (released), James Dunne (released), Vincent van den Berg (released), Anton Blackwood (released), Havard Nordtveit (Nuremberg, loan), Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Blackpool, loan)

Decision to stay at AC Milan saves Beckham’s World Cup dream

England boss Fabio Capello has confirmed Beckham would have been axed from his squad if he had returned to LA Galaxy this month.

Instead, Beckham sacrificed two million pounds of his personal fortune to help broker an extended loan spell with Milan and so is in line to pick up his 109th and 110th caps for his country in the clashes with Slovakia and Ukraine at Wembley, The Sun reports.

Capello revealed: “At this moment it’s important for him to play in Europe. America is not the same level as Europe.”

Beckham would have switched top-level Serie A football for pre-season training with Galaxy, further eroding his hopes of making it to South Africa 2010.

Capello added: “You know my decision — always I put in the squad the players that play. And that’s the reason why Beckham will be in the squad. I have watched on TV the last few games that David has played and he played very well. So I am happy, though it was not my decision. I was not involved. It’s a decision by Beckham and between LA and Milan.”

How Capello uses Beckham, though, is a different matter with Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon and Shaun Wright-Phillips competing for the wide right role.

Beckham wants to play until he turns 50

London: Ace English midfielder David Beckham has blown away all talk of international retirement by declaring that he wants to play until he turns 50.

Former England skipper Beckham is expected to win his 109th cap in the friendly against Slovakia at Wembley, breaking Bobby Moore’s record for an outfield player.

“I’d love to go to the World Cup and be involved in every squad that gets picked up to that time. I don’t think I’d ever retire.”

Beckham, chasing goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s 125-cap record, has been rejuvenated since his loan move to AC Milan from US outfit LA Galaxy.

The Sun quoted him as saying even if England wins the World Cup next year; he would not call it a day.

“Even if I’m not picked in a particular squad, I always want to be available while I’m still playing,” Beckham said.

When it was put to Beckham that he could not play on until he was 50, he said: “You never know. I don’t want people wondering why I’m still playing. But I’d like that option to still be be involved in a squad one day and, if that happens when I’m 45, I’d take it.”

“I’m passionate about playing for my country. I’ve still got that work-rate there, I’ve shown that with Milan and have played in every game so far,” he added.

yeah, dives should be a ban-able offence (3 games out)

Yeah but, it woudl be so hard to challenege every dive.

Because people always dive outside the box to...

Its so stupid, and someone can be questionable sometimes even if they look like dives...

I think it would be to hard to judge ...

I feel sorry for Eduardo though, Ive never ever seen him dive before and he is getting this much greif over 1 dive.

But the people who dive all over the pitch not just in the box done get anything.

And some do dive in the box and get penalties often..

http://bikyamasr.wordpress.com/2009/08/26/bm-sport-sunderland-want-egypt-winger-al-muhammadi/

26 August 2009

CAIRO: English football club Sunderland is looking to bolster their side by adding Egyptian international winger Ahmed al-Muhammadi as manager Steve Bruce continues his efforts to rebuild the club, which was relagated to the Championship division. Muhammadi has been dubbed the ‘Egyptian Beckham” for his swift movement on the sides and his curling passes.

The Egyptian winger as been dubbed the 'Egyptian Beckham'
The 22-year-old would be Sunderland’s sixth major summer signing if they manage to put in place a a loan deal with Egypt’s ENNPI Cairo before the transfer window closes next week.

Egyptian football fans are hopeful the move with propel the young winger into a position to compete on a larger stage.

“He didn’t play well in South Africa this summer and while we see his potential, he needs help,” began Sherif, an avid football viewer who watches all Egypt’s matches, “because he isn’t to the quality that will make him dominate on the field.”

Bruce believes his strike force is complete, after signing Fraizer Campbell and Darren Bent to play alongside Kenwyne Jones, but has said he would like more numbers in midfield after selling Dean Whitehead to Stoke for £3million.

Midfield duo Lee Cattermole and Lorik Cana have arrived on Wearside already this summer, but Bruce is keen to strengthen his options on the flanks and appears to have turned his attentions to Muhammadi.

“It could happen. We will have to wait and see. That would be a loan deal as well,” Bruce told the Sunderland Echo, after watching his club pummel Norwich City 4-1 in the Carling Cup on Monday night.

Muhammadi, one of the rising stars in African football, has been close to a move to the Premier League before after a trial at Blackburn in October last year.

Despite impressing during this period the move failed to materialise after Paul Ince left the Lancashire club weeks later.

Tinchy Stryder - Rangers fan

http://entertainment.stv.tv/showbiz/118880-tinchy-stryder-is-a-glasgow-rangers-fan-and-loves-barry-ferguson/

Rapper Tinchy Stryder has admitted he’s a Rangers fan because he loves Barry Ferguson.

The football loving star told the Sun: “I’m a Rangers man because I was a huge fan of Barry Ferguson. It was a shame that he’s left for Birmingham.”

Tinchy revealed his Scottish football love at the MOBO Awards launch at London’s Mayfair hotel.

Although Tinchy’s album Catch was beaten to the top spot in the charts by Scots dance maestro Calvin Harris, he’s still delighted with his success telling the Sun: “Obviously we’re all competing to get to the top but I’m more than happy with what I got.”

Yesterday brought even more good news for the rapper as he was nominated for 3 MOBO awards including Best Album, Best UK Act and Best Song for Number One, his hugely popular track with N-Dubz.

Tinchy with a host of other stars, including a rumoured appearance by Beyonce, will head to Glasgow’s SECC on September 30 for the glittering MOBO Awards show.

Arsenal striker Eduardo could face a two-match Champions League ban if UEFA decide to charge him with diving.

UEFA disciplinary officials are reviewing the incident when the Croatia striker won a penalty against Celtic on Wednesday night before deciding whether he will be charged.

A UEFA spokesman said: "We are reviewing the match to see whether a disciplinary investigation should be launched."

Under UEFA rules, if charged and found guilty Eduardo could face sanctions up to a two-match ban in European competition.

^^**** off, what absolute bollox.

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has today made a significant move in the summer transfer market, and snapped up Middlesbrough duo Tuncay Sanli and Robert Huth today, according to a report from Sky Sports News, who are also indicating that the joint fee for the pair is in the region of £11million.

Huth has passed a medical, according to Sky, after a fee of £5.5million was agreed for the centre-back, a German international.

The fee for Turkish attacker Tuncay is reported as being of a similar size, as Potters boss Tony Pulis looks to introduce some reinforcement to his squad after a quiet summer so far in the transfer market.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate was able to confirm that talks were taking place between the two clubs earlier, when he told Boro's official website, "I believe a fee has been agreed with Stoke City and the players are in talks with them.

"At the moment those talks aren't concluded so I'm focussing on what I can affect, and that's the game at Bristol City on Saturday."

How the **** did Stoke manage to sign Tuncay?! And why on earth would he choose them over a host of other top clubs that were in for him?!

Lauren
27-08-2009, 05:45 PM
I don't really rate Tuncay to be honest, though he's too good for Mboro.

I'm not too disheartened tbh.

We could do without europe anyway and its a shitty competition with too many games. I'd rather go out now then go out nearer the end. Saves all our fitness for domestic competions.

well done boys decent game but they wanted more and deserved it more. Fair play to there fans as well.

- Robben is ready to sign for Bayern the 25 year old, will sign for £22million.

- AZ Alkmaar wont be a walkover as to what many fans think, AZ have only lost 1 game in 33 european games and are current Dutch champions above Ajax, PSV and FC Twente.

- Fulham in for goal machine Marc Janko (Scored 39 goals in 34 games)
http://cravencottagenewsround.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/fulham-in-for-goal-machine-marc-janko-all-that-glistens/
The league which includes Rapid Vienna have teams that concede 50 goals in 36 games, but also can score 80 +

Johann

Yeah, and they play Wolfsburg (champions) on saturday as well. :joker:

:xyxwave: Van Gaal

Although I have to say, having Robben and Ribery on the flanks is just mental.

Bundesliga is a league on the up, so many decent teams. Still Robben shouldnt go there, should come back to the EPL or stay at madrid

Stuttgart and Wolfsburg will both do great this season.

Bayern will make up for it, still finish top 5..

On a football forum I go on theres some sick Celtic fans wishing Eduardo breaks his legs again and that someone breaks into his house and stabs them just because of the dive. Thats usually a well mannered and friendly forum but those comments are disgusting.

Swansea have completed the loan signing of Lee Trundle from Bristol City and are set to sign West Brom striker Craig Beattie on a three-year deal.

Former fans favourite Trundle, 32, returns to the club he left two years ago for Bristol City in a £1m deal, but failed to make his mark there.

Scotland international Beattie, 25, will become the club's most expensive player if he passes a medical.

"I can't wait to get back," said Trundle, who signed until 1 January.

Swansea have been desperate for strikers, not only to replace top scorer Jason Scotland who joined Wigan for £2m in the summer, but to cover for injuries to Stephen Dobbie and Guillem Bauza, and suspension to Gorka Pintado.

Trundle, nicknamed Magic Daps for his trickery, has struggled to make an impact in the Championship and Bristol City boss Gary Johnson is keen to offload him.

He scored seven goals in 58 league and cup appearances for the Robins in the last two seasons - most of those appearances coming from the bench - but has not featured this season.

Leeds United took Trundle on loan in January where he scored once in 10 league outings, and Swindon made a bid for him earlier this month.

Reading have signed Watford midfielder Jobi McAnuff and Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak for undisclosed fees.

McAnuff, 27, made 78 appearances for the Hornets, scoring 14 goals, and signs on a three-year deal.

Poland international Rasiak, 30, who scored 29 goals for the Saints and had a loan spell at Bolton, has signed a two-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

"Both players will be very good for us," Reading boss Brendan Rodgers told the club website.

He added: "Jobi is a big talent and he gives us something different.

"When I was at Watford he was outstanding; he can create opportunities, has terrific speed and great technical qualities.

"Grzegorz also did fantastically for me during my time as Watford boss. you look at his record and he's a proven goalscorer and an experienced international."

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas could potentially be fit for the Gunners trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The star midfielder was all but ruled out of the clash with Manchester United but after being selected for Spain’s national team for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, it seems his fitness is only of a slight concern.

Fabregas has been struggling with a hamstring injury and it seemed as though Arsene Wenger would leave him out of the United match but Spain coach Vincente del Bosque included him in the national squad, indicating he may be ready for action as early as this weekend

Booyah.

Utd's midfield is so utterly ****.

Carrick - good player but not amzing

Nani - ronaldo wannabe, not consistent enough, maybe this is his season to shine but right now a complete waste of 17m

Scholes - 80yrs old now

Giggs - 90 yrs old now

Anderson - has done **** all since joining, great energy but offers nothing in attack. still hasnt scored premier league goal :laugh3:

Fletcher - cant pass past 5 yards.

Sorry, but even if we dont have Fab and Rosicky on saturday I would have Denilson, Song and Diaby over them anyday (apart from Carrick maybe)

Is Ancelotti using Mikel over Essien?? My how i would LOVE it if we signed Essien. no doubt he'll probably end up at Barca/Madrid

30stone
28-08-2009, 03:18 AM
Yes, mikel is being used over both essien and ballack.
But essien plays next to mikel sometimes..

I dont knowif i over rate him but i have always though ballack is an excellent player.
