Aston Villa are planning a £12 million bid for West Ham United defender Matthew Upson.
Skysports.com says Upton Park Gianfranco Zola has insisted he does not have to sell players, but bids approaching £15m would be difficult to turn down for the ambitious centre-half.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill was concerned by his side's 2-0 opening day defeat by Wigan and is in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Martin Laursen and Zat Knight this summer. Villa were interested in Upson earlier this summer and have now made their move.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is planning a move for Celtic wing wizard Aiden McGeady.
The Scottish Sun says Redknapp is set to make Celtic a bumper offer for McGeady - and NOT Scott Brown.
Redknapp and his No2 Kevin Bond headed north on Tuesday to run the rule over £10million target Brown at Parkhead.
But they left purring over the performance of McGeady in the 2-0 Champions League qualifying defeat by Arsenal.
It's understood the Spurs chief is weighing up a £5m-plus bid for McGeady, 23.

- Vermaelen Praises Gallas: “He is very experienced. For me it’s much easier to play in a side with him because of that. I have already learned a lot from him. I have enjoyed the last two games a lot. I feel very pleased and we have a good team with good quality and I like the players. I’m settling in very well I think.”
- Bendtner signs a new deal with Arsenal, 50k a week, and has signed until 2014.
- West ham ready to look ready to sign Arsenal target Chamakh, 6m + 1m for each year he stays and a 20% of any future sale.
- Arsenal and Liverpool look to battle for Van Der Vaart Signing: Arsenal and Liverpool and both trying to capture Real Madrid midfielder Raphael van der Vaart. The Holland international has been demoted to the status of fringe player at the Bernabeu following the intense summer spending spree at the Spanish club and that has alerted the Premier League big guns.
- Everton look ready to snap up Spartak Moscow winger Vladimir Bystrov. The £9m man could be joined by Valencia’s Argentine midfielder Ever Banega.
- Arsenal has appointed three new senior executives to help run the Premier League club, including a former vice president of NBA Asia.
Tom Fox joins as chief commercial director of the north London club, which counts Stan Kroenke -- the owner of the NBA's Denver Nuggets -- as its largest shareholder.
Fox is also a former executive with Nike and Gatorade and will report to chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who joined Arsenal in January after a stint as deputy commissioner of the United States' Major League Soccer.

Liverpool are being linked with Matias de Federico.
The Daily Mail says De Federico - dubbed the new Lionel Messi - is the subject of a £4.6m bid from an unnamed English club.
The 19-year-old, previously linked to Liverpool, is a diminutive forward who had been set to leave Huracan for a move to partner Brazil legend Ronaldo at Corinthians till the English bid came in.

Everton boss David Moyes wants four more signings.
He told evertonfc.com: "I want to be in the Europa League because if we get through (to the group stage) there are big games. But the squad depth is a definite concern. We are getting closer, but I've been saying that since the weekend. There are 11 days to go and I feel we need to add four players to the squad in that time.
"I keep thinking we are closer to making a signing. But I can see the deadline coming closer and normally I am glad when it shuts, but on this occasion I would like to extend it.
"I feel that if we are fortunate enough to get into the group stage of the Europa League that we need at least another four players in order to fulfill the Premier League season as well."

Arsene Wenger, the coach of English soccer club Arsenal, has issued a warning to clubs who build new stadiums at the expense of investing in their team.
That is a charge that has been levelled at Wenger's own club, though the Frenchman insists that Arsenal's own stadium build - the club moved to the Emirates Stadium from Highbury in 2006 - continues to be a boost rather than a handicap. However, Wenger sees the club as a rare exception.
"Arsenal will be more successful by building a new stadium, but it is not easy to build a new stadium and remain where you are," said Wenger. "Look at all the clubs who have built new stadiums and where they are now: Derby County; Leicester City; Coventry City; Southampton. They all went down."
Wise words, we only survived in the top 4 because of the amount of quality youth players he bought in.

Arsenal boss Wenger: Xabi sale big loss for Liverpool :
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says the departure of Xabi Alonso is a major blow to Liverpool's title hopes.
"Alberto Aquilani will be a good player [for Liverpool], but they have lost a great player in Alonso," Wenger told the official Arsenal magazine.
"He was the brain of the game for Liverpool last season. I don't expect them to struggle this season, but people might have a little question mark about how they replace Alonso."

Rangers set for huge windfall from Celtic’s Arsenal woe
Scottish soccer club Rangers are set for a huge financial boost if their greatest rivals, Celtic, fail to pull off a shock win against Arsenal in the second leg of their Uefa Champions League match.
Should Celtic, as seems likely, fail to qualify for the group stages of the competition, Rangers will receive the entire US$9.6 million amount allocated by Uefa to Scottish teams.
As champions, Rangers are already guaranteed around US$5 million of that fund, but Celtic's exit - they trail 2-0 to Arsenal after the first leg - would see the US$4.6 million earmarked for the Bhoys instead go to their cross-city rivals.
LOL, Rangers get an extr 4.6million dollars because of Arsenal hopefully :dance2:

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is set to be sidelined for up to four weeks with a thigh injury.
Ferdinand played in the Community Shield earlier this month and also completed 90 minutes for England in their friendly against Holland.
He then suffered a slight tear in his thigh during training last week ahead of the Premier League opener against Birmingham.
Sir Alex Ferguson initially thought that he would only be without Ferdinand for a couple of weeks but that estimate has now been revised.
"Rio is going to be out for three to four weeks," said the United boss.
Ferdinand is therefore set to miss United's next three Premier League games as well as two England fixtures early next month
He could also be doubtful for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on 20th September.
Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen has confirmed contract talks are underway, although he is currently focusing on his football.
The Norway international, who has been at Ewood Park since 2004, is now into the final year of his Rovers contract.
However, rather than look beyond the end of the campaign, Pedersen just wants to focus of playing well for Rovers.
The 27-year-old only scored one Premier League goal last season, a record he is desperate to put right this time around.

Liverpool have today completed the signing of Greek international defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos from AEK Athens.
The 30-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the option of a further year after successfully completing a medical.
Trikala-born Kyrgiakos began his career at the Panathinaikos academy in 1996 before being loaned out to Greek second division club Agios Nikolaos.
He was recalled by his parent club in 2001 and the powerful centre-back quickly established himself as a regular member of the Panathinaikos first team, helping them to a Greek league and cup double in 2004.
In January 2005, Kyrgiakos acquired his first taste of British football as he joined Glasgow Rangers on loan.
After clinching the Scottish title and League Cup, the deal was made permanent in the summer of the same year as the 6ft 4ins defender agreed a one-year contract at Ibrox.
The Bundesliga was his next destination with the tough-tackling stopper sealing a transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2006, where he spent two seasons before joining AEK last summer.
A knee injury kept Kyrgiakos out of Greece's historic triumph at Euro 2004, although he started each of his country's three matches in the same tournament four years later.
In total, he has won 50 caps for the Greek national team.

I never make any transfers before the season, I tend to spend all of my money on team fitness, and then just get as many loans etc. as I can.
I usually do awful in the first season and then in the second I buy free agents and do well from then on.
I have nearly signed GUTI on Soccer manager
Transfer will be completed shortly

Sol Campbell has moved to Notts County on a free transfer. Campbell who was released earlier this month by Portsmouth is said to be thrilled with the move. He is thought to be making his debut on Saturday.
Zurab Khizanshvilli has also joined Notts County on a free transfer.
Notts County will come top of League 2 this season

Clichy < Gibbs
Sagna < Eboue
Song < Diaby
Bendtner < Eduardo
So starting 11 should be..
---------------Almuina---------------
Eboue-Vermaelen-Gallas-Gibbs
--Denilson--Fabregas--Diaby--
--VanPersie--Eduardo--Arshavin--
Its only a guess that Eduardo will start as the lead striker..
As hes a box player, van persie isnt really an out and out striker..
