Van Persie is a great man.

And Heskey?!?! LOL he will never score for england..

Though i said that a while back and he did...

Either way i reckon..

2 - 1 England ( Rooney + Lampard )

OR

2 - 1 Holland ( Van Persie + Van Der Vaart )

van Persie is not a good player imo he wont be scoring tonight

Not many good english players are comming, the "golden era boys" are getting older..

The "golden era boys" failed to win anything, the new kids will not not win anything.

(The golden era boys was given to them due to our team being full of stars.. Owen, Becks, Rio, Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Mr G)

People like that really annoy me.

If he hadn't scored you'd be so pissed off.

Kuyt had to try take it on himself. could have done a pass to van persie and it would have been easy.

But he scored so fair play..

Brad.

Arshavin scored 6 goals in 12 games.

Don't care how he plays for England, **** team anyway. No one puts as much effort in for the international friendlies as they do for their club. And he's been our best player pre-season too.

And nothing wrong with being greedy as long as you score.

lol.. Terrible defending tonight.

Johnson isn't worth 18m though.. far from it.

And yes there is but he ent gunna score all the time..

Benitez should learn from the netherlands manager..
Play Kuyt up front with torres as usually he plays attacking midfield yes?

Brad.

We can get this back to 2-2 i think

Locke.
12-08-2009, 07:30 PM
He won't play Kuyt up front because he wants Gerrard right behind Torres because that partnership works well, so if Kuyt went upfront with Torres and Gerrard stayed behind both then we'd easily be caught conter attack. If we don't end up buying a new striker by the end of August I think he'll be used as a striker when Torres is out, and Benayoun will be on the right.

Everyone seems to be playing really relaxed compared to usual..

Barry in comparison to gerrard to.. as barry is poor.

Terry, Cole, Lampard, Rooney, young and beckham look like they are trying and green.

Johnson, ferdinand, barry and heskey are looking relaxed.

That would be good.

and most teams play 2 strikers sometimes 3.. like chelsea.. you should be able to play 2 strikers and still win..

But yeh he would play well as a striker whilst torres is out.

Babel is good is he has played enough games to.

Locke.

Dirk Kuyt should be played as a striker.

At liverpool..147 apps 40 goals. less than 1 in 4.

Played as a striker at Feyenoord ..
122 apps 83 goals. 1 goal in every 1 and 1/2 games

I reckon he'd be quality if liverpool played him further up..

Leaving Real Madrid In Order To Join Inter Is Not An Option - Wesley Sneijder

The Dutch midfielder has made it clear that he's going nowhere...
12 Aug 2009 22:19:05

The future of Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder remains uncertain after the creative playmaker has reacted in a negative manner to rumours linking him with Italian champions Inter.

Earlier on Wednesday a report from Italy emerged that Inter had reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Sneijder on a one-year loan deal for €7 million.

The former Ajax star knows nothing of such an agreement though and has made it clear that he's not interested in leaving Madrid in order to move to the Milanese outfit.

"I'll return to Madrid tomorrow and I'm not aware of any agreements between Inter and Real. I'm not interested in joining Inter as I'm keen to stay in Spain and prove my worth at Real. I'll fight for my place, even though the competition is harsh," said Sneijder to SBS6 after the friendly match between Holland and England.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed earlier this week that Real were planning to offload four more players before the start of the new league season, with Sneijder being one of those four.

The dream is over. :(

Capello unfazed by England errors.

England coach Fabio Capello said he was not too concerned by the defensive errors that led to both Netherland goals in the 2-2 draw in Amsterdam.

Mistakes by Rio Ferdinand and Gareth Barry handed the Dutch a 2-0 advantage at the break, before Jermain Defoe's double completed a fine fightback.

"These were just two silly mistakes," said Capello, who has a 100% record with England in competitive games.

"I was not angry about them because i can accept they were freakish."

Aston Villa have completed the signing of goalkeeper Andy Marshall.

The 34-year-old, who has four caps for England Under-21s, arrives at Villa on a one-year-deal, having previously spent three years at Coventry City.

Marshall began his career at Norwich in 1993 and previous clubs include Ipswich Town and Millwall.

He left Coventry at the end of the 2008/09 season and is expected to join Brad Guzan in providing cover for current number one Brad Friedel.

Giovanni Trapattoni insisted that Republic of Ireland morale would not be damaged by Wednesday's 3-0 friendly defeat by Australia at Thomond Park.

Trapattoni said that next month's vital World Cup qualifier in Cyprus would be "a different game".

"We had many players tonight who have played very little football this season," said the Republic manager.

"That was very clear in the first half. Their physical condition will a different situation in Cyprus."

Trapattoni added:"The match tonight was about checking their physical condition.

"They (Australia) were stronger than us and they deserved to win after their first-half performance.

"But before their first goal, Robbie Keane had a big opportunity to score. That could have changed the result."

Trapattoni preferred Manchester United youngster Darron Gibson in central midfield to Keith Andrews in Wednesday's game - although the Blackburn man was introduced in the second half.

"I knew what my strongest team was before tonight's game but I needed to try other players and different options," added Trapattoni.

"I told the players that we are a little bit disappointed but we have 20 days before the Cyprus game."

Sunderland have signed combative midfielder Lee Cattermole from Wigan for £6m, on a four-year contract.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has moved to sign Cattermole, 21, for a second time after paying Middlesbrough £3.5m to take him to Wigan in July 2008.

The England Under-21 international made 33 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring once.

Cattermole will go into Sunderland's squad for their Premier League opener against Bolton on Saturday.

Bruce has made Cattermole his fifth summer signing following Darren Bent, Lorik Cana, Fraizer Campbell and Paulo Da Silva to the Stadium of Light.

Latics manager Roberto Martinez said he was disappointed to lose the services of the England Under-21 international, but was happy with the fee he achieved.

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington was delighted with the display of substitute Niall McGinn in the 1-1 friendly draw with Israel.

The Celtic winger has put himself in contention for a starting place in the World Cup qualifiers next month.

"Niall McGinn did terrifically well - he got us up the pitch and used his pace and ability," he said.

"There were lots of pluses and one or two little mistakes but it was good to get the players back and refocused."

Worthington's team face Poland and group leaders Slovakia next month in a crucial double-header.

McGinn was not the only replacement praised by the manager after the game.

"Martin Paterson worked hard and was solid, Steven Davis was outstanding in the second half and young Jonathan Tuffey made a good safe.

"The group is getting stronger and that is good for the team.

"I'm pleased with the exercise, that's five unbeaten and let's hope we come back from Poland making it six."

David Healy, who was replaced by Paterson, has now gone six games without a goal but Worthington was quick to defend the Sunderland striker.

He added: "Just because David has not scored as frequently as before does not mean we discard him - he has been a magnificent player for Northern Ireland.

"We have to support and help him, and when he scores again he will be off and running.

"But there's other people there, we can mix and match and we had two or three permutations up front which will be required in the qualifiers."

Macclesfield 0 - 2 Leicester

Leicester proved too strong for Macclesfield as the Foxes progressed to the second round of the Carling Cup.

Matt Oakley volleyed against the post for the visitors before their dominance was rewarded with a goal as Dany N'Guessan audaciously back-heeled home.

Izak Reid had a deflected shot bounce off the crossbar for the home side as they were denied an equaliser.

Matty Fryatt sealed Leicester's win when he lashed in a left-footed shot high into the net.

Nottingham Forest eased to victory over Bradford to set up a second round Carling Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Paul Anderson gave Forest the lead when he latched on to a Nathan Tyson cross and headed in at the far post.

Tyson was again the provider as he crossed from the left for Dexter Blackstock to volley in.

Lewis McGugan completed Forest's win when he tapped in an Anderson cross before Bradford had Jonathan Bateson sent off for a foul on Tyson.

Coventry were weakened by international call-ups but almost equalised.

Everton centre-forward Louis Saha has hailed his compatriot Arsene Wenger, lauding in particular the Arsenal manager's ability to bring the best out of young players.

Saha is looking to face the Gunners in the Blues' opening day fixture at Goodison Park, and the forward feels that those who view the coach's coming season at Arsenal pessimistically may well be wrong as he anticipates more success ahead for the Londoners.

"Arsene has been at the top for many years and he’s up there with the best," the Frenchman told the Toffees' official website.

"He brings the best out of so many players. He has a young team now and I think looking forward there are even better things to come from them."

Saha is relishing the prospect of an opening day tussle with Wenger's team, and is expecting it to be a tough but enjoyable challenge.

"I’m looking forward to Arsenal. They have some really good players and I’m confident it will be a great game – albeit a hard game," he added.
"It’s always really hard to play against Arsenal. Their quality all over the pitch is amazing and it’s difficult to get a few passes together!"

Manchester City want to see England centre half Joleon Lescott's medical records - before making a new and even bigger bid for him.

City officials want to clear up concerns about Lescott's historic knee problems and will make the unusual move of asking to check on him ahead of any further offer.

Mark Hughes's club are already willing to pay £18 million and will go to £22 million if they are satisfied that Lescott has no long-standing problems.

The idea of looking at the confidential documents is to avoid the embarassment of making a huge bid and then possibly seeing the player sent back as damaged goods if he 'failed' the actual medical.

However Everton will be reluctant to part with the information, especially as boss David Moyes is determined to hold on to Lescott at any price.

Toffees 9/4 for sweet opening day victory

It's something of a surprise to see David Moyes' men available at such a big price (9/4 Sky Bet) to beat Arsenal on Saturday evening. After all, only nine points seperated the two teams in last season's Premier League standings and Everton came within a whisker of beating the Gunners at Goodison Park last January. Robin Van Persie's late strike ensured the visitors came away with a point that they barely deserved and many will think the home side are worth a punt at a similar price, especially as the North London team continue to look vulnerable away from home.

Sure enough, Arsenal will have their backers at 13/10 (totesport), although Arsene Wenger's team drew and lost more away games in total last season than they won. In addition, they begin the campaign without Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor (now plying their trade at Manchester City), while Tomas Rosicky and Samir Nasri are currently injured. Much rests on the shoulders of Cesc Fabregas (10/1 Ladbrokes) and Andrei Arshavin (8/1 William Hill) and it was the latter that showed a keen eye for goal after joining the club during the January transfer window.

This will also be a season where plenty is expected of Van Persie (6/1 totesport) and Eduardo (15/2 bet365), although the pair are injury prone and might have a restricted number of chances against Everton. After all, we're talking about a team who were very strong in front of their own fans last season, with David Moyes seemingly winning the race to keep Joleon Lescott at the club. Injury-wise, they are still missing the impressive Phil Jagielka, while the game will also come too early for Mikel Arteta and Yakubu. However, the on-loan Jo (8/1 Paddy Power) should be available, while Tim Cahill (9/1 bet365) will pose an obvious threat from set pieces.

Both teams will be keen to avoid defeat in this opener, with a point apiece not being a bad result all round. Stan James go 9/4 that it's honours-even, with Blue Square offering 6/1 that it finishes 1-1 as it did last season. Providing Joleon Lescott is still with Everton by the time the match takes place, the England international is sure to have his name sung from the rafters and he's a 25/1 chance (Bet Fred) to open the scoring an endear him to a set of supporters who are unsure of the player's future. A slender 1-0 victory in favour of the home side is a 9/1 chance (Blue Square).

Arsenal don't need a new Viera.

Mathieu Flamini, who after a few seasons as a utility player got his chance in the middle of the park, and took it with both hands. He was a different type of player, able to track back and tackle, but he played higher up the pitch - where he used his great shot and which he scored with on many occasions - but did not have the strong, athletic build of the others. His breakthrough season, 2007/08, saw Arsenal seriously challenge for the title, reaching at least the quarter-finals of all competitions and setting a club record of 28 games unbeaten. Their midfield during this campaign was Flamini and Cesc Fabregas, both 5'10" with medium build - not exactly what you would call a powerhouse midfield. Last season, Manchester United won the title with players such as Michael Carrick, Anderson and Paul Scholes playing in this position, none of which you would ever call a battling midfielder. Tactically-minded, passing midfielders are just as useful as an enforcer.

So, is there a need for Arsenal to recruit a strong defensive midfielder? The answer is no, it is not essential. They already have enough midfielders that can pass their way out of trouble and will - hopefully for Arsenal fans - be getting to the point where they can show the tactical awareness needed to be successful there. But the good news for the Gunners is they already have one midfielder who can both battle and play his way around the park. Alexandre Song was one of the revelations for Arsenal of last season.

Able to play as a central defender (where for his country Cameroon he has won massive plaudits) or a defensive midfielder - where he proved he could hold his own. If injury had not ravaged Arsenal's attack last season it is quite possible his performances in the team would be remembered more fondly. He is strong and quick with a large frame, with the maturity to control Arsenal's games from the middle. He is not your archetypal 22-year old - already married with two children. A troubled childhood forced him to mature quickly, and this could give him the composure to really dominate for Arsenal over the coming seasons. If he is chosen to partner Fabregas this season (although this is in no way certain as Abou Diaby, Denilson, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere will also be fighting for a place) it could make all the current pining for a new Vieira - or even for the old Vieira - seem like a huge waste of time.

England Star Mourns Brother After Crete Death

2:19pm UK, Thursday August 13, 2009
Premier League footballer Luke Young has said he is "devastated" after his teenage brother was found dead after a night out drinking with friends in a Greek holiday resort.

Andre Young and his brother Luke

Andre Young, who died on holiday in Crete, and his footballer brother Luke Young

The body of 17-year-old Andre Young from Saffron Walden, Essex, was discovered on Wednesday morning on a building site near his hotel in Malia, Crete.

His parents have flown to the island to identify their son, who suffered serious head injuries.

The Aston Villa and England defender said: "My family and I are devastated by the tragic death of my younger brother Andre in Malia, Crete, earlier this week.

"He was a tremendous and talented person and a diligent student and this is such a waste of a promising life."

The family appealed for anybody with information on Andre's whereabouts during his last night out to come forward.

Holidaymaker Bethany Billings, 21, who saw the teenager before he went missing, said he had been drinking with friends.

She told the Daily Mirror: "He was proper drunk. He knew he'd had enough and wanted to go home."

She said she last saw him staggering up the street, and added: "He must have tripped and hit his head."

A spokesman for the police in Crete said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

More than 200 people have joined a group set up in tribute to Andre on Facebook.

One friend, Rhiannon Parry, wrote: "Shocked, really really shocked!! Rest in Peace buddy x"

Another, Jay Pledger from Saffron Walden County High School, wrote: "You will be forever remembered. Maths classes were no good without you mate. R.I.P. xx".

RIP, another footballers brother dies, take as long as you want out Luke, thoughts with your family.

Wolves have re-signed Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne on a season-long loan, after the centre-back spent two months with the club last season.

The player becomes Wolves' seventh capture of the summer, and chief executive Jez Moxey says the club has not stopped its recruitment drive.

Mancienne trained with the Wolves squad while the clubs worked out the financial details of the deal.

The 21-year-old was called up for the full England squad last November.

Moxey said: "It's been a long, hard summer in terms of preparing for the Premier League and bringing in new players, and we're still looking for more even now."

During his previous 10-game spell at Molineux, the youngster made a huge impression in the west Midlands.

Chelsea have stipulated an emergency release clause in the deal, which would see Mancienne return to Stamford Bridge in January should the Blues require him.

For that reason, he has not been granted permission to play in the Carling Cup. He cannot feature in league matches against Chelsea as per Premier League rules.

Birmingham have announced the signing of former Liverpool and Rangers defender Gregory Vignal on a one-year contract, subject to a medical.

The 28-year-old left-back played under Blues boss Alex McLeish at Rangers and has impressed during his time on trial.

"He's a good athlete, mobile, strong and aggressive," McLeish told Birmingham's official website.

"At Rangers when we won the league it was a very successful campaign for him, so I know what he can bring us."

Vignal, who joins from Lens, will fill the gap left by David Murphy, who is recovering from a broken knee cap.

Rafa Benitez is hopeful of having centre-back pair Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel fit for the Barclays Premier League opener on Sunday - though Steven Gerrard faces a race against time to face Tottenham.
Click here to watch Rafa's Press Conference>>

Carragher limped off following a knock to the ankle during Liverpool's last pre-season friendly with Atletico Madrid, while Skrtel has been suffering from a hamstring injury.

News of their improvement comes as a major boost to Benitez, who is likely to be without the injured Daniel Agger this weekend.

The boss told his pre-match press conference: "Skrtel trained yesterday and hopefully he'll be fit. Carragher has been working with the physios today and we think he'll be available. Agger is also working with the physios but it will be more difficult for him."

Gerrard pulled out of England's friendly international with Holland this week due to a tight groin.

Benitez added: "I am really pleased because Mr Capello wanted to protect players. Because Gerrard had a problem they did a scan and pulled him out of the squad. We don't know if he'll be fit. He was working with the physios yesterday and today.

"If the game would have been on Saturday it would be difficult but because it's on Sunday he could have a chance."

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N165404090813-1429.htm

If Gerrard isn't fit our squad will probably be:

Reina

Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Insua

Benayoun, Lucas, Mascherano, Riera

Kuyt, Torres

Either that or we'll have Kuyt on the right wing instead of Benayoun and Babel on playing just off Torres. Torres and Kuyt partnership is more likely though.

FA Powerless to stop Man City activities against Everton
August - 13 - 2009

Man City have continued with their pursuit of Joleon Lescott even though Everton have told them categorically that he is not for sale and the FA are powerless to stop what is basically blatant tapping up of a player.

When a club says a player is not for sale then the rules are that the club make enquiries should stop, not only have Man City ignored this but have continued to make public statements about their desire to sign Lescott.

It is immaterial who leaked what, who said what first and so on, the basic facts are that Everton have said no and Man City continue to make public statements.

The statements are clearly designed to unsettle the player and in fact it has worked with Lescott requesting to be transfer listed.

The impotence of the FA should come as no surprise but their failure to act and come down on Man City just undermines the very fabric of the contract system.

There is now nothing to stop Man City publicly saying we want this player and urging that player to put in a transfer request.

Andre-Pierre Gignac, the France striker who has received interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Toulouse, tying him to the Ligue 1 club until 2013.

Gignac was the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 24 goals, and netted his country's winner in their 1-0 victory over the Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has admitted he would love to retain striker Tuncay but expects him to move on before the end of the month.

Tuncay, 27, is available for Saturday's trip to Swansea but Southgate fears it could be one of the final appearances for the Turkey forward in a Boro shirt.

"We haven't had any bids for him but while we have him, I want to make the best use of him," he told BBC Tees.

"Unfortunately we don't expect to have Tuncay beyond the end of this month."

The striker has become a huge favourite with supporters after a free-transfer switch from Turkish club Fenerbahce in June 2007, making 67 league appearances and scoring 15 goals.

One player who has been linked with a concrete move away from the Riverside is striker Afonso Alves, and Southgate remains hopeful of a breakthrough in the deal.

Alves, 28, became Boro's record signing when he joined from Dutch side Heerenveen for £12m in January 2008, but has struggled to make an impact.

"We agreed a fee with a club in Qatar and his representatives are talking to another club at the moment but we haven't agreed a fee with that club," Southgate told BBC Tees.

"We're expecting that things may move on in the next few days.

"I expect there to be movement and when players go out I'd like to strengthen what we have, but it's quite frustrating at the moment."

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is hopeful of signing Damien Duff after offering Newcastle £4m to buy the winger.

Republic of Ireland international Duff, 30, has been at St James' Park since joining from Chelsea for £5m in 2006.

"The clubs are talking and I hope the deal goes through," Hodgson said. "He is a player that interests us."

Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, 36, has signed a new one-year contract extension with Fulham to keep him at the club until 2011.

Duff, who grabbed Newcastle's equaliser in their opening-day draw with West Brom last week, has scored six goals in 86 games for the Magpies.

He spent three years in west London with Chelsea between 2003 and 2006 after making his name at Blackburn.

Duff worked under Hodgson as a teenager at Ewood Park and, according to the Cottagers boss, is keen to return to the capital.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed what many fans have always suspected - his view of controversial incidents is not always obstructed.

Wenger is notorious for claiming not to have seen certain incidents, often when one of his players is accused of committing a foul.

"At times I saw it, and I said I didn't to protect the player," said the 59-year-old Frenchman.

"It's because I could not find any rational explanation to defend him."

Wenger's reaction to post-match questioning over incidents when his players may have been in the wrong usually brings a wry smile to the face of fans and his admission will come as little surprise.

But he insists he does it for the good of his players and provides them with the benefit of the doubt.

Read this in paper today..

Arsenal boss Wenger: Wilshere proof we didn't need midfield signing
14.08.09 | tribalfootball.com

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says the emergence of Jack Wilshere is proof he was right not to go out and sign a new midfielder this year.

He told the Daily Mail: "When Cesc Fabregas was a teenager, I would play him with Patrick Vieira and it did not work. Gilberto Silva and Vieira worked, Fabregas and Silva worked, but I could not play Fabregas and Vieira. But Fabregas was 19 and if he did not play I knew he would want to go, so we risked destroying everything, all the work we had put into this player. That is why I sold Vieira.

"Now we have that situation with Jack Wilshere. He is 17 and we cannot ask him to play every game to win the championship. But next year he will be ready, he will want to play all the time and if we have bought a player in his position he will want to go."
