Derek with the cigar at the end was amazing :joker: :joker:
By far the best thing about the show can't believe they are killing him off
bbfan1991

Jamie Foreman was not impressed with how they wanted to make Derek an out and out villain, he wanted to portray the softer side of Derek more too, to show that he was a complex and complicated character.

Thought Derek just sitting back smoking the cigar was hilarious. :joker:

Think it ruined the good tense vibe Alfie and Kat had going on personally for a cheap laugh. Derek could have been a good character if took more serious.

That's not true at all.
If the episode was any good then I'll praise it and if it was crap then why should anyone sing its praises and say it was great when they know it wasn't?
I just haven't enjoyed EastEnders at all for the past two years and if I felt something was crap then I'll say so.
Redway
21-12-2012, 04:54 PM
Why keep commenting then?
Because forming an opinion on a television show or whatever else is the sheer reason for the existence of it all.
It's implying that you have to switch off just because your opinions aren't positive all the time. No you don't. I hate silly arguments like that.
Funny enough I don't see anyone picking on people who have nothing but praise for things in general - which somehow says it all?

EastEnders Christmas episodes never disappoint and I always prefer watching it over Emmerdale and Corrie.

The finale of Derek tomorrow, shame.
bbfan1991
24-12-2012, 11:21 PM
My gut feeling is that they axed Derek Branning because I know that the Producers read forums and they must have known that Derek in full villain mode made him very unpopular.
Jamie Foreman wanted to play the bad side to Derek, but he also wanted to give the character more vulnerability and to show Derek's human side more e.g. with his family, although I reckon the producers always wanted Derek to be the big villain and had a certain story arc for the character like what Archie Mitchell did before they killed him off.
It is a shame that Derek finally came good just before he is leaving and I have always thought that JF plays him well though!

She could be, although I think she is probably just a plot device and will leave soon.
I know that Tanya will be absent for a year when she leaves soon, so Jo Joyner who plays her can spend time with her very young twin babies.

When Derek was released from prison, he introduced Max to Kirsty. The pair were instantly smitten Having been thrown out by Tanya (unaware of the onset of her cancer) Max was at his lowest ebb, while Kirsty was trying to extract herself from an incredibly destructive relationship. The attraction was instant but grew into something much deeper very quickly. It was electric.
Kirsty wore her heart on her sleeve with Max. Chaotic and vulnerable, she laid everything on the table. No holds barred. Caught in a whirlwind romance, Max bared his soul – well, most of it, anyway! Neither had anything to lose. In a moment of shared madness the pair had a shotgun wedding in a registry office. It was spontaneous and hedonistic but Kirsty had finally found ‘The One’, while Max was determined to put his past behind him. With Derek’s criminal activities down the toilet, Max and Kirsty resolved to move away from London (to Manchester) a week later and start a new life together.
Max and Derek planned to meet Kirsty there but during the move, Max was called back to Albert Square and discovered that Tanya had been diagnosed with cancer and was refusing treatment. Realising he'd been sent away under false pretences, Max stayed to look after Tanya and rescue his family. Unable to face Kirsty - and afraid that if he even saw her again he would be powerless to resist - he simply informed her by phone that it was over. In the few months Max was with Kirsty, a real bond was forged and it's something he’s run from ever since, hoping it would fade. It hasn’t.
Devastated by his apparently-callous abandonment, Kirsty had no way of finding Max. Derek – happy with his new-found family life - was in regular contact with Kirsty but gave misleading information in a bid to ensure she couldn’t find him. Broken-hearted, this confirmed all Kirsty's worst fears about love. It was around this time that she made the shocking discovery that she was pregnant.
Kirsty contacted Derek to pass the news of her pregnancy onto Max but Derek selfishly lied and insisted that Max was not interested. The truth: Max was never told. The ordeal sent Kirsty into a spiral: pregnant in a strange city and rejected by the one man she’s ever truly loved, Kirsty was forced to make a difficult choice and opted to have an abortion. Max was never party to this information but Derek knew – and even stooped as low as paying for it behind his brother’s back.
Kirsty was incensed when an envelope of money and divorce papers were pushed through her letterbox (by Max). Kept at bay by Derek, Kirsty was determined to find Max and let him know exactly what he'd done to her but it was only when an angry Derek turned on Max on Christmas Eve that she finally found out where Max lived and decided to reclaim her man… Christmas Day has never been very good for Max’s love life!
Marcus.

Not a bad episode I guess but a bit of an anticlimax...I'd be surprised if you genuinely couldn't see Max's "secret" coming from a mile off. Totally predictable and clichéd. I do like Kirsty, though. A bit of a nutter but looks interesting enough to make this mess of a storyline at least mildly watchable.
Tanya was a hypocrite, as usual, having a go at Max for exactly what she did a year or so back.
Good to see Alfie/Roxy together and it's obviously too late for Kat to even begin to try and salvage the situation.
A bit disappointed that none of the episode was set in the Vic, which is usually great for Christmas.
And is it just me or did Derek's laughable heart attack scene bear any resemblance to Pauline's cringeworthy last few seconds on the square, back in '06?
Marcus.

Joey just came back because his father Derek, who died blackmailed him to leave after finding out his son was shagging his brother Max's daughter Lauren, so things were tense between them LOL.
Lauren is an alcoholic and she and Joey ran away after Derek and Tanya found out about what they were doing and while Joey was driving Lauren distracted him and they crashed into a shop. Derek saved them from the flames, but Joey took the blame to protect Lauren.

One decent rating does not equal a restoration to quality. It's been utter crap since the baby swap nonsense broke out early last year and the fact that EE may have won the Christmas Day battle means nothing at all. I look forward to seeing if it can maintain this evidently brief boost on ratings or if it will just go back to how it was a week before.
Oh fgs chill out it's a TV program,if it upsets you that much watch something else,I think it's been great over Xmas ,can never understand people who constantly moan over something that they are not forced to watch and is fiction,I'm sure as much as you 'dislike' it,you'll still be moaning about it next year and what for?lol EE will still be topping the ratings.
Punctuation.
As has been said numerous times on here, the whole point of watching a television show is to form opinions on it - positive or negative or whatever else - and you can't really tell someone not to watch just because you don't like their views. It's just immature and the sort of reasoning that a 15-year-old would exhibit.
And the fact that EE won the Christmas ratings means nothing. 2012 has been a thoroughly disappointing year for the show, as evidenced by its ratings - which have actually been the lowest on record? Doesn't that totally contradict that ratings argument?
Corrie was way better ^ :idc:
I agree. I like the way Corrie at Christmas feels more realistic and is what you'd expect off a typical Christmas anywhere ... not someone dropping dead after a blazing row with siblings and some mystery pyscho wife turning up out of nowhere (although I didn't mind it) and wrecking havoc in the Branning family, as usual. :idc:

That may be true but at least Corrie's a bit more realistic on Christmas Day and they don't put all their eggs in one basket.
And I actually reckon Corrie's been much more watchable than EE this year and the last (though none of them have been any good really).

There is never any drama in soaps when everyone is constantly happy. If some people want that every episode then I am afraid they are watching the wrong programme!
Btw one of the guys that chased Derek is apparently returning to the square soon, unfinished business and all that.

The thing is some Corrie fans have actually moaned when they do the big dramatic scenes that contain some misery, it has a big fanbase but there is a huge older block watching and I suspect they are the ones who prefer every scene to be happy.
I like happy scenes in soaps, although I still maintain a balance is good. I think EE have included more lighter scenes recently.

I see what you're saying but the thing about older viewers being the main age demographic who want happiness and low-key, light-hearted episodes as opposed to high-profile drama just isn't true. I don't have any statistics or anything to contextualise that as an objective statement (not even much to substantiate it at all) but if personal experience is anything to go by (which it probably isn't), plenty of people I know who aren't "older" (as you put it) would rather watch happy filler stuff than drama.

'EastEnders' works with Comic Relief for Liam Butcher gang storyline
EastEnders bosses have teamed up with Comic Relief to highlight the growing problem of teen involvement in gangs.
A forthcoming storyline on the BBC One soap will see Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer) left distraught when her 14-year-old son Liam becomes caught up in a gang, which results in her losing control of the schoolboy.
http://i2.cdnds.net/13/04/300x450/soaps-eastenders-james-forde-liam-butcher.jpg
As the hard-hitting plot progresses, Bianca will face the terrible reality of trying to get Liam (James Forde) to choose between his family and the gang - but which way he turns remains to be seen.
EastEnders chiefs and Comic Relief have worked on Liam's story together, undertaking research into why teenagers become involved in gangs and the devastating effects the culture can have.
The collaboration between EastEnders and Comic Relief comes after they previously teamed up for Whitney Dean's sex exploitation storyline in 2011.
EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman commented: "We are delighted to be working with Comic Relief once again. This subject matter is something which is touching the lives of so many young people in London and other cities around the UK.
"We have taken the opportunity to see the impact from a mother's perspective, and Patsy Palmer gives a powerful performance of a mother doing all she can to protect her son. The telling of this story has also given us the chance to explore the reasons behind the attraction of gangs for teenagers."
Judith McNeill, Grants Director for Comic Relief, added: "Comic Relief is really excited to be working with EastEnders again to highlight an important issue supported by Red Nose Day.
"In 2011, Comic Relief put EastEnders in touch with young people who had been sexually exploited so that the reality of this horrific form of abuse could be accurately portrayed. The groundbreaking storyline was important in lifting the lid on a hidden issue and significantly raised the profile of the issue of young people and sexual exploitation across the UK.
"This year's storyline should play an equally important role in promoting greater understanding of why young people are vulnerable to becoming involved in gangs."
Liam's gang storyline will start on screen next month and include a six-minute episode which will be transmitted as part of BBC One's Comic Relief broadcast on Friday, March 15.

Ian (Adam Woodyatt) could even become soap's most married man if Denise (Diane Parish) goes on to be his fifth wife.
She previously turned him down when Jane left him and struggles to come to terms with the fact that she has romantic feelings for him.
The new couple decide to keep their relationship a secret from friends and family.
An EastEnders insider said: "Denise has always had a bit of a soft spot for Ian but he can be infuriating, so whether they go the distance in the next few months remains to be seen."

"It's getting beat in the ratings by a farm," said Dyer (via The Mirror).
"No disrespect but it's a soap about a farm and that is smashing it to pieces in the ratings so they've brought me in to give it a little injection of something," he added.
Responding to the comments on Twitter, Emmerdale actress Charley Webb said that you "should never disrespect another show" and that soap stars should stick together.
Meanwhile, Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield, suggested the comments were disrespectful to Dyer's own cast members.
@lukeroskell bet his cast mates are looking forward to him coming in and 'saving' the show.... Disrespecting us and them aswell xxx
— Michelle Hardwick (@ChelleHardwick) November 16, 2013
Dyer has since claimed that the comments were "just a bit of banter" and that no disrespect was intended.
Furthermore, in a light-hearted Twitter exchange, Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher advised Dyer to "strap a nappy" to his mouth, before asking Dyer if he planned to have him shot.
Dyer's character Mick Carter will be joined by wife Linda (Kellie Bright) and their children Johnny (Sam Strike) and Nancy (Maddy Hill).

Eastenders sounds awesome durning the xmas peirod,
A part of Xmas week spolier!
EastEnders favourite David Wicks will face terrible danger this Christmas as Janine Butcher makes a murderous plan.
Janine (Charlie Brooks) decides that drastic action is needed after she is blackmailed by David (Michael French) over her dark secret.
As we recently reported, Janine makes a terrible mistake later this month as she confesses to Michael Moon's murder in a heart-to-heart with David, unaware that he is recording her every word.
Seizing on the opportunity, David later threatens to hand the recording over to the police unless Janine buys his silence with a £250,000 payment.
Although a stunned Janine promises to hand over the cash, she secretly makes a shocking plan of her own - telling her loyal ally Billy Mitchell that she wants David dead.
Janine lies to Billy by claiming that David has been threatening Scarlett and is planning to set her up for Michael's murder. However, a frightened Billy ultimately refuses to be part of her plans - leaving Janine well and truly on her own.
In dramatic scenes on Christmas night, David is waiting to meet Janine outside Butcher's Joints to receive his payment when suddenly a car accelerates and heads straight for him, sending him crashing to the ground...
Viewers will have to tune in on the night to find out David's fate.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, December 23, Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 on BBC One.
New years eve and Day spoliers

Ronnie Mitchell's feud with bad boy Carl White will come to a head with some dark twists ahead in EastEnders' New Year episodes.
A protective Ronnie (Samantha Womack) becomes increasingly worried when her sister Roxy starts dating Carl following her emotional split from Alfie Moon.
In a desperate attempt to deal with the situation, Ronnie privately offers Carl (Daniel Coonan) £5,000 to leave Roxy alone, but the dangerous villain has other ideas of how she can pay and lunges for her.
Ronnie manages to fight off Carl and hits him over the head with a champagne bottle, leaving him unconscious. Desperate and panicking, Ronnie then holds Carl in The Arches while she considers what to do next.
The next morning, Ronnie is forced to ask for Phil's help and they team up in the hope that they can finally force Carl out of Walford for good.
Carl initially seems intimidated enough to leave at last, but it's clear that he isn't finished with the Mitchells yet when he lurks in the shadows with revenge in mind.
Later, sinister Carl catches up with Ronnie again at Phil's house and implies that he has taken Roxy hostage at The Arches.
Ronnie rushes there to find her sister, but instead it's her nemesis who is waiting for her once again. One last showdown then sees Ronnie get rid of Carl forever…
While viewers will have to tune in to find out exactly what happens, the aftermath sees Ronnie head off to Ibiza with Roxy - while Phil fears the worst when he finds Carl's broken phone amongst Ronnie's things, covered in blood. What has Ronnie done to Carl?
EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, December 31, Wednesday, January 1 and Thursday, January 2 on BBC One.

Ouch at Janine ordering Joey to leave!
I enjoyed that episode, all of the storylines and scenes flowed well.
It was Dominic Treadwell's first episode as Producer today and what great changes he has made so far:). I am so excited for this new EE era now!

Yes! The show needed more older characters and we have got them now. Impressive castings too.
The Carters seem an exciting bunch and looks like there are lots of plans for them, the show is going to be amazing next year!

Anyone notice the diffrent in last 3 eps so far, I Feel like the show is flowing much better and story telling
I did lol What carl said to Ronnie, Are you Phill in high heel lol
I heard Ronnie is going to be next big Villan for next as she turns into her dad lol
Here DTC interview and he as already planned for Feb 2015 Aniverary
EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has spoken about his plans for a number of the show's characters, promising that there are "massive stories" ahead over the next year.
Since taking office at the BBC soap in August, the show's new boss and his team have been busy mapping out storyline plans until February 2015.
EastEnders' longest-serving cast member Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) will be among those taking centre stage with a big story next year, while Ronnie Mitchell will be heading in a new villainous direction.
Speaking at an EastEnders press event, Treadwell-Collins commented: "We've got massive stories for the Masoods, for Denise, for Kat and Alfie - and maybe our biggest stories for the Beale family. There's a big, big Beale story that will hit around Easter and keep going until the anniversary.
"It'll shock and entertain and hopefully make the nation weep. It will give Adam Woodyatt, who's a brilliant actor and a lovely man, a big chance to shine.
"The other thing is Ronnie will have a big story. The question with Ronnie is, 'Is she her father's daughter?' I think we're going to see with Ronnie how someone becomes a villain. I keep talking about Darth Vader - the making of a villain. Not a soap bitch, but a villain."
Discussing other characters, he promised: "Everyone will get a big story. There's big stories for Sharon, for Phil Mitchell, and for Carol.
"Lindsey Coulson is acting her socks off in her breast cancer story. It's a very important story and I've been sobbing in the edit suite a lot."
Treadwell-Collins also teased the upcoming exit of Janine Butcher, surprise return of Stacey Branning and arrival of Danny Dyer's Carter clan at the Queen Vic.
He explained: "You'll see Charlie Brooks's exit story. There will be a coda to that story. It's not going to be the last you'll see of Janine, but that's all I'll say at the moment.
"We've also got Lacey Turner's return as Stacey. [Story producer] Alex [Lamb] and I storylined the last time Stacey was on the Square. That was Act One. We know the character and we know where she's going to go.
"With the arrival of the Carters, stories are going to flow out of The Vic. But it's not going to be the Carter show and it's not going to be the Stacey Slater show - it's going to be EastEnders. This show works best when there's a bomb going off at The Vic, a bomb going off at the Beales' and a bomb going off at the Brannings'.
"Not a literal bomb! I think when you're stuck for story, you blow things up. I'm not saying I'm never going to blow anything up, but I don't care - let another soap win Most Spectacular Scene. I don't think soaps should be about blowing things up, I think they should be about characters, people and they should move you. I don't cry at houses getting blown up!"
Treadwell-Collins succeeded Lorraine Newman in the post of EastEnders' executive producer. He previously worked on EastEnders for four and a half years from October 2005, initially as senior story editor before later securing the post of story producer.

I am really impressed by DTC's interview and his plans sound great. EastEnders is on its way back to being the wild, untamed animal.
DTC lives and breathes the show, so will get it back to the show back to its best and excite us fans. No wonder morale and confidence must be so high amongst the people there!
Bye love and warmth era:D.

i dont know if i can watch eastenders anymore. i keep trying. i turned on and saw the miserable faced ronnie who i was sick of and glad she left but now returned, then it ended with soul faced ronnie doing some more miserable faced weirdness , god almighty it was bad.
danny is great but it seems they have wrote the same storryline family with him as they have used before. and he is wasted in the show.
i might try again but it sure is a awful show. compared to what it used to be
