Holy **** what an album. Its exceeded my expectations. Its up there with mmlp1 for me. Bad Guy is by far and away my favorite amd the Nate Reuss feature is outstanding. Headlights made me cry such a raw and honest song.

Absolutely and it's a massive improvement on his lacklustre Recovery a few years back.

Iceman
30-10-2013, 11:19 PM
Headlights sticks out as a single to me....that second verse just being so open and raw....its the one that gives me goosebumps everytime...

Aw im just so happy its not recovery 2.0

If he calls it a day ill be sad but at least he'd go out on a high....

Rolling Stone:
"MM LP 2 fits in well in the year of Yeezus and Magna Carta... Holy Grail, records by ageing geniuses trying to figure out what the hell to do with their dad-ass selves. (It's like hip-hop is the new Wilco or something.) Since Em has always been a mess, he'll probably still be able to give us pause when he's rhyming about retirement ventures through dentures and cleaning out the colostomy bag he wears up inside his saggy drawers. MM LP 3, 2026. Let's do this."

Rating: 4/5

USA Today:
"Eminem is at his best when he's at his worst: tasteless, immature, psychotic, incensed. Not the most attractive traits in a 41-year-old father, perhaps. But it works for pop music's antihero poet."

Rating: 3.5/4

Spin:
"This album will never top MM1 or even 1999's Slim Shady LP for the visceral thrill of watching a celebrity twist and distort his own identity like a comic strip transferred onto Silly Putty. But we get rhymes. So many rhymes. More rhymes than some rappers manage in a whole career. It was only 13 years ago when he was just rap's Great White Asshole. He's already been the lead actor. He deserves to play the stuntman for a while."

Rating: 8/10

NME:
"It's been three years since Eminem's last outing, in which time rap has seen a seismic shift towards trap rumbles, woozy echoes and, in the case of fashionistas A$AP Rocky and Kanye, rhymes about cat walks - a world apart from the Detroit emcee as we last saw him in 2010 around Recovery"

Rating: 6/10

New York Daily News:
"The album offers a resounding return to the gory comedy and free embrace of psychosis that first made Em the antihero of our age. It's his funniest album in years, as well as his fastest, verbally. The speed rap in 'Rap God' alone could make every other emcee tie their tongue in shame."

Rating: 4/5

Vice:
"No other rap album this year has managed to continually surprise in the way that the Marshall Mathers LP 2 does. I don't think my jaw closed for a high majority listening through this album, consistently finding myself laughing out loud, pleased, shocked, and at times, emotional."

Rating: Positive

Digital Spy:
"The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is just as offensive, funny, bleak as its forebear, but - aside from the questionable guest stars and those derogatory comments - Eminem is brooding, in form and the rest should start taking notes again."

Rating: 4/5

You've made it clear again and again that you don't actually have a problem with gay people. So why, in 2013, use "******" on that song? Why use "gay-looking" as an insult?

I don't know how to say this without saying it how I've said it a million times. But that word, those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin' or whatever, I never really equated those words . . .

To actually mean "homosexual"?

Yeah. It was more like calling someone a bitch or a punk or asshole. So that word was just thrown around so freely back then. It goes back to that battle, back and forth in my head, of wanting to feel free to say what I want to say, and then [worrying about] what may or may not affect people. And, not saying it's wrong or it's right, but at this point in my career – man, I say so much **** that's tongue-in-cheek. I poke fun at other people, myself. But the real me sitting here right now talking to you has no issues with gay, straight, transgender, at all. I'm glad we live in a time where it's really starting to feel like people can live their lives and express themselves. And I don't know how else to say this, I still look at myself the same way that I did when I was battling and broke.

I kind of thought you were doing it because when you're rapping as Slim Shady, part of your mission is to annoy people.

Well, look, I've been doing this **** for, what, 14 years now? And I think people know my personal stance on things and the personas that I create in my music. And if someone doesn't understand that by now, I don't think there's anything I can do to change their mind about it.

Eminem has done something no artist has done in nearly 50 years.

He has scored four simultaneous hits in Billboard's Hot 100's Top 20 -- all as a lead artist. The last music act to have done that was the Beatles in 1964. Eminem's "Monster" is at No. 3, while "Berzerk," "Survival" and "Rap God" currently rank at 15, 16 and 17, respectively

Why be a king? When you can be a GOD!

This is what it was like for Taylor, but it improved much more than this and stayed like this for many days, as they were all increasing and there were 2 versions of many of the songs.

Monster has also set another record for Rihanna omfg #histoRIH

Perhaps lost in yesterday's bevy of chart feats by Eminem, who this week becomes the first lead artist to land four concurrent top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 since the Beatles in 1964, is that Rihanna tallies her 25th top 10, matching the sum totaled by Elvis Presley.

Thus, "The Monster" is proving aptly titled, as its debut at No. 3 has surfaced narratives between Eminem and the Beatles and Rihanna and the King of Rock and Roll.

Upon the collaboration's bow, here's an updated look at the acts with the most Hot 100 top 10s:

38 -- Madonna
34 -- the Beatles
28 -- Michael Jackson
28 -- Stevie Wonder
27 -- Mariah Carey
27 -- Janet Jackson
27 -- Elton John
25 -- Elvis Presley
25 -- Rihanna
23 -- Whitney Houston
23 -- the Rolling Stones

Of course, the usual caveat when it comes to Presley's history: his career predates the Hot 100 by two years. Prior to the chart's Aug, 4, 1958, he tallied 12 top 10s on Hot 100 predecessor pop charts, so his total would be considerably higher had the list existed upon his landmark arrival.

Not only does Rihanna log her milestone 25th Hot 100 top 10, but she also earns the honor of being the fastest among women, besting Madonna by four months. "The Monster" ranks in the top tier just eight years and four months after her first such hit, "Pon De Replay," in 2005. That just tops the eight-year, seven-month span for Madonna from her first week in the top 10 with "Borderline" (June 16, 1984) and her 25th, the No. 7-peaking "Deeper and Deeper," which reached the region the week of Jan. 16, 1993.

Rihanna tallies her 25th top 10 the second-most quickly among all acts. The Beatles needed just four years between 1964's "I Want to Hold Your Hand" -- one of the titles that gave the Fab Four a record six songs in the top 20 simultaneously that year -- and 1968's "Lady Madonna" (just to tie together the Beatles and Madonna a little more).

"The Monster" is additionally Rihanna's 45th Hot 100 entry, tying her with the output of her Island Def Jam labelmate Carey. Here's an updated look at the women with the most Hot 100 visits:

73 -- Aretha Franklin
59 -- Taylor Swift
56 -- Madonna
56 -- Dionne Warwick
53 -- Connie Francis
48 -- Brenda Lee
48 -- Nicki Minaj
45 -- Mariah Carey
45 -- Rihanna
42 -- Miley Cyrus
41 -- Barbra Streisand
40 -- Mary J. Blige
40 -- Diana Ross

Thanks Em

Nonsense, SOS was an EDM track ahead of its time, she's innovative

Iceman
07-11-2013, 10:15 PM
I reckon it could do 2 million by end of the year...depends on second week sales and the continuing promo...

Stu
07-11-2013, 10:15 PM
SOS is a great track but it's nowhere near being innovative and doesn't particularly forecast EDM in a particularly stand out way. It's just a souped up Tainted Love.

EDM itself isn't particularly innovative. It's just trance soundsets from the wave of Roland JP-8000 driven dance from the late 90's, retooled to fit pop melody and structure more with the mid ranges amped up to radio friendly insanity.

EDM is just an American invention as well. The term is retarded. We just always called it electronic over here. Dance. House. 'EDM' is a new tag so it makes it sound like a new thing but it's not.

The Guardian Review 10/10

What's the point of Eminem in middle age? He was a peroxide phenomenon in his 20s, an icon of adolescent posturing, the go-to guy for Christina Aguilera insults and casual homophobia, but in 2013, rap is trap and money and molly. Who needs a 41-year-old spitting another revenge fantasy about his mother over plangent piano? With this sequel to his blockbuster third album, however, the rapper has created a work that bears comparison. Not necessarily because it's full of hits – though Rap God, Survival, Rhyme or Reason and Love Game all could be – but because Eminem has engaged with his age and others' scepticism, decided he doesn't give a **** and asserted himself again. There is confidence and maturity here; introspection and regret are balanced with a clear idea of his place in rap's history. His flows are exceptional (Rap God contains an unbelievable feat of double-time rhyming) and the wordplay dazzling. The jokes, in places offensive, are relentless and ribald. There is no apology, though, no concession; just a considered, virtuoso application of talent.

Iceman
10-11-2013, 07:26 PM
Eminem has landed his seventh UK number one album with The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

The rapper becomes the first American to score seven consecutive number one albums in the UK, equalling the feat achieved by The Beatles. Led Zeppelin and ABBA hold the overall record with eight number ones.

Eminem has breezed to the top of the US album chart with his latest release.

The rapper's new collection The Marshall Mathers LP 2 topped the Billboard 200 chart with first week sales of 792,000 copies.

The album claims the second-highest first-week sales in the US so far this year, following Justin Timberlake's mammoth sales of 968k copies of The 20/20 Experience back in March, reports Billboard.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 marks Eminem's seventh consecutive number one album in the US. Only his 1999 debut album The Slim Shady LP has missed the top spot, peaking at number two.

Eminem's latest album also scored bigger first-week sales than his previous effort Recovery, which started with 741,000 copies in 2010.

Meanwhile, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 topped the UK chart this past weekend, scoring first-week sales of 143,000 copies

792....I dont think theres any big releases coming this week that will match that???? :spin:

As midweek chart reports indicated, it was a tough battle for the top spot in the ARIA Albums listings this week. And, US hip hop star Eminem held off all newcomers, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 keeping the number one position for a second week.

The closest challenge came from fellow US performer Lady Gaga who sent her Artpop album in at number two. But locals Illy and Paul Kelly managed top five positions with their new releases. Melbourne hip hopper Illy placed his Cinematic set in at four (his highest charting album to date) while Paul Kelly's live recording of his collaborative tour with Neil Finn, Goin' Your Way, came in at five. The DVD format of the Kelly & Finn live set has entered the Music DVD Chart at number one though, managing to dislodge DVD mammoth Andre Rieu from the top.

Also #1 single too....

Eminem and Busta Rhymes are about to change the course of hip-hop history, according to producer Scoop DeVille.

The legendary emcees' upcoming collaboration, entitled "Calm Down," may shake the ground of rap in a similar way that Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse recently did, according to DeVille:

"That's the next record that's going to, I'd say, destroy the streets of New York and hip-hop in a lot of ways," the producer told HotNewHipHop.com. "That record is something that we've been putting together for a minute. It's not just like an overnight thing. We've been trying to make this THE record to bring back Busta in a major way."

He continued:
"Not only are you going to get the song, you're going to get a video, you're going to get the old Buss, old Em, and it's like six minutes of just rhyming - 64 bars [Busta], 60 bars Em - just destroying it, it's insane."

DeVille also claimed that Rhymes was forced to redo his verse after Eminem "blacked-out" upon receiving the track, which will debut on Busta's upcoming Extinction Level Event 2 album.

In an earlier interview with XXL magazine, Rhymes said that the record will be unlike anything fans have heard from either rapper.

"I've got a six-minute record with Eminem that sounds like we are respectfully trying to battle each other in a way that you probably never heard us battle in our entire careers on a record. So it's lot of real incredibly golden moments for us on this project."
Rhymes' album is currently scheduled for a late 2014 release date.

Eminem is riding high off on the success of his latest album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which hit platinum status and even snagged the best-selling album title in Canada for 2013. With MMLP2, the Detroit rapper has seven number one albums to his name, with the only miss being Curtain Call: The Hits, which peaked at number two.

A week later than I predicted but nonetheless:

You'll have to forgive Eminem if he's "beginning to feel like a 'Rap God.'"

"The Marshall Mathers LP 2" sold an additional 13,000 copies for the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen SoundScan, pushing it beyond two million total sales. The milestone continues the rapper's trend of moving more than two million units of each of his albums, per Billboard.

Eminem simultaneously hit another mark that should garner some bragging rights. His total sales across all albums now sits at 44.91 million, overtaking country musician George Strait's 44.89 million to become the second-best-selling male artist. However, it is important to note that Strait's career predates the inception of SoundScan data.

Garth Brooks is the top selling artist of the era, regardless of gender.

Among all artists in that nearly 23-year span, Eminem is in sixth place, dropping Strait to No. 7. Brooks is on top with 69.52 million. The Beatles are second (65.55 million) and Metallica third (54.26 million), while Mariah Carey sits in fourth (54.24 million) and Celine Dion (52.21 million) rounds out the top five.

Also during the rapper's busy record-breaking week, Eminem landed his 50th Billboard Hot 100 hit, as "Headlights," featuring fun's Nate Ruess, debuted at No. 86. The chart entry crowns as the seventh rapper to tally at least 50 Hot 100 chart entries.

Lil Wayne leads all emcees (and all solo artists of any kind, actually) with 121 songs, followed by Jay Z (82), Drake (69), Kanye West (61), Ludacris (54) and T.I. (53).
