...next time you get a chance to movie watch with your daughter, Eighth Grade will be great for a rewatch as well...well, you’ll see at lunchtime...I think it would be an easily watchable again movie...and ugggghhh, some of the cringe moments, we’ve all been there...
...well not exactly there but, you know.../teenage angst...

...it was a lovely movie, wasn’t it...I can’t recall the names of the mean girls, I think it was Kennedy whose birthday it was and her thoughtless friend... the way they just totally blanked Kayla like she didn’t exist...but yeah, I loved Olivia as well, she was just so representative of how ‘cool’ is on the inside and a positive outlook, not an exterior thing or being part of a group, you know...and Kayla’s dad and how he wanted to be mother to her as well and spent time learning about stages she would go through.....the love he had for her was just gorgeous and tremendous, that scene with the banana was so funny and oh, you don’t like bananas though...and he actually had put it down in a note that she didn’t like them so he didn’t make that mistake again.....I did cringe though, completely...when he was ‘spying’ on her in the shopping mall when she met with Olivia and co...that would have been me also...OMG, my dad...just devastating......and Gabe...adorable...also not realising how ‘cool’ he was just by being so individual and quirky....a lovely movie.....
...we watched The Mauritanian last night...so many true stories that I haven’t known...horrendous beyond any words... Mohamedou Ould Slahi is the most incredible and forgiving of human beings......

Uwantme2killhim :
what a strange story, I think it was pretty obvious from early on that Mark was being catfished and John seemed the only choice as to who it was. It's funny, when Mark called to John's house and you briefly saw his mother in the kitchen Gavin said was that Rachel? We rewound it and all but couldn't decide [emoji28] it was a good show though, I was saying to Gav, this is probably the future of true stories

I don't know why these people who run these places think they're any better than even the real terrorists nevermind the innocent people who end up there

I just watched a film called Run Ammi, I think you'd like it
...so at the end, was Chloe medicating her mother in the same way so that she would stay in the correction centre forever and Chloe would be safe...(...and she was probably killing/poisoning her as well, she had aged so much in 7 years...)....

I also watched another Chadwick Boseman film Message from the King, it was good too
...it was very creepy anyway...that one and Greta...
...yeah, I’ve looked at Message from the King many times but haven’t got round to actually watching it so that can be my Easter treat, I’ll try to watch it today and post a review...thank you for reminding me to do that......
Shindlers List?
You know I've never actually watched Schlindlers List so I'd definitely go for that
...Schindler’s List is showing on Netflix...it’s in the critically acclaimed films section...should we have that next on the list...?...

Omg I love Schindler's List!
...I’d forgotten that it was over 3 hours so I’m watching it in bits...I’ve not long been home so I’m just watching the first bit now and I’ll try to finish it tomorrow if I’m able to...
Vanessa

I'll watch it tomorrow, when I have more time.
But it's a really amazing movie, I love everything about it.
From the performances to the screenplay and the music.
It's just the perfect movie. Spielberg
...I was going to watch it in bits, Vanessa...because of the length of the movie...?..but then I ended watching it all yesterday...I didn’t quite manage to pause it...such a harrowing/absorbing story....
...Schindler’s List/2nd watch....
...I won’t say too much about it because it speaks for itself...one of the remarkable things about Oskar Schindler is that he wasn’t remarkable as such../...in that he wasn’t a ‘hero’ type, he was far removed from that in his mindset and lifestyle etc..but he became that hero without ever intending to...the end scene when he was completely crushed and saddened that he felt he could have done more and should have done more when so many would go on to live a life because of his sole actions...just so incredibly moving...a man who had lived selfishly and who became so selfless because of the hatred and cruelty surrounding him...who saw the Jewish people as a cheap workforce to employ and then began to see them as priceless and valuable lives to save a d protect and never once making a round of ammunition that would harm anyone....incredible and an incredible cast as well......how so many people were brainwashed into extreme hate for a race of people who lived peaceably among is so horrendous....

I haven't watched Schlindlers list yet, was planning to last night but it got too late and it's a long film, there's a match on tonight so will probably watch it tomorrow night instead.
I see In the name of the Father is on Netflix as well, great movie and i'd love a rewatch?

...I was going to mention that to you because yeah, I’m not actually even sure that I’ve seen it at all tbh...so that can be the next one after Schindler’s List...but in general there seems to be quite a few Classics on Netflix atm, I think they’re checking our thread...so I’ll try to get time to go through them and list some because now would be a perfect time to watch some more classics if there is a good choice atm...

In the Name of the Father is excellent, dying for a rewatch of that, kind of in a similar theme to The Mauritanian too
...ok, these are some of the older but newly added movies..some I’ve watched but would be fine for a rewatch and some I think that I might have watched but don’t recall actually watching...in no particular preference order etc...
Cast Away
Atonement...I’m pretty sure that we had that on the list but it wasn’t showing at the time...
The Game...I’ll try to find a trailer for that because I don’t recall it at all...
Nell...I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen but can’t recall anything about it...
The Time Traveller’s Wife...not sure about this but might be worth a rewatch to decide...
Death Becomes Her...just fun...
The Hitcher
Twister...I’ve probably watched it around 6488576 times so another watch would be fine...
Ai Artificial Intelligence...I actually can’t recall much about that one either...I know the basic plot but the details, I don’t recall...
Zombieland...also fun...

Pretty Sure I did watch the Game years ago but I have little to know memory of it so definitely up for that, haven't seen Death becomes her in years either but I loved it as far as I can remember so that's a yes from me. I love Cast Away but I've seen it a good few times already. I didn't really like AI. Nell not sure if I've seen that possibly not so that would be a yes from me, Atonement haven't seen it so yes from me. Twister have watched that around the same amount of times as you Ammi, I don't even love it that much it just seems to always be on telly  The Time Travelers wife is OK meh. The Hitcher, not sure if I've seen that seems vaguely familiar. Zombie land I love that movie, seen it multiple times though

I've never seen it, but mum loved it.
...oh I think that’s showing on Netflix as well, Vanessa...
...In the Name of the Father...
...I knew the bones of the story of the Guildford Four but I didn’t know all of the details...I feel for sure that if there had been the death penalty...none of the Guildford Four or the Maguire Seven would have lived....it’s so sad obviously that Giuseppe never saw his freedom again and never got to be reunited with his beloved wife and daughters...but I wished Gerry had lived longer as well, 60yrs old is a very young age still and to have had to go through terminal cancer as well ..too, too sad and so wrong....life can be so relentless and cruel to some...they never shared the same cell, though...I read that the only communication they were allowed with each other was through letter, they weren’t given any actual contact...And it wasn’t really expressed in the movie how much ‘coercion’ and the methods they would have actually suffered to have signed those confessions...I also hadn’t known that it had been hidden that their innocence was known for so long...as it said, they weren’t looking for justice, for the actual who coldly took those lives in the pub...they were looking to ‘fill some Irish boxes’ or fill some prison cells with Irish people...shame is the only word really, shame on everyone who was a part of that concealment...but no arrests for them, no facing a courtroom themselves...

...(..I was thinking...)...if it’s ok with everyone...I might watch Atonement next as I’ll keep that more intense vibe from In the Name of the Father and then maybe Death Becomes Her after that as it’s such a light/fun watch...

Sounds good, I'll watch Schlindlers List tonight
In the name of the Father
Great movie, Daniel Day Lewis is so good in it, obviously it's very close to home and I do remember experiencing some of the anti-Irishness in London myself back in the 90's when i lived there for a couple of years and at that point it wasn't even as bad as it would have been in the 70's and 80's. That mentality of just having someone locked up, anyone is so awful. Why wouldn't you want to find the real people. The whole thing was a disgrace and they weren't the only innocent Irish people made the fall guys for IRA bombings either

...yeah, my own dad was a man who came over to England from NI so I kept relating that it could have been him...and the same with the Maguire 7, the extended family that so many Irish had living here also...there were only a few of my dad’s siblings who stayed back home and most of them were in England with a few in the USA....it was nice to read of that huge wave of support for Gerry in America...

Schindler's List
Can't believe I've only just got around to watching this now, war movies always turn me off for some reason. It was a lot different to what i thought it was going to be about, I thought it was about a guy who helped smuggle Jewish people out of Poland to safe countries so yeah i was wrong about that  What a fantastic film, very hard to watch in parts though, it still amazes me how so many people could be so evil towards other human beings, it's really sad and disappointing actually. What a guy Schindler was though, to hold his nerve like that when dealing with a monster like Ralph Fiennes character, he had a real talent for manipulation I think but used it in such a good way (after a rocky start) The part when the women and children ended up in Auschwitz and were herded into the shower blocks and the terror of thinking they were minutes away from death, that scene was horrifying and the part where the guard pulled away all the kids when they were being taken out of there, again Schindler had nerves of steel, he had to take on all these Nazis and use pretty much only his confidence/arrogance and air of Authority to save those children when really he had none and he pulled it off. Anyway amazing film, can't believe I let it pass me by for so long

...Atonement...
...it’s such a down movie, it’s difficult to say that a re-watch was an enjoyable experience as such...it’s just a very, very tragic story ...not just for Cecelia and Robbie but also for Briony who survived the war to a much older age and had to live with her misunderstanding for her whole life...
...I read the book many years ago, before the movie, obviously....and I hadn’t known of Saoirse at the time as an actress...Atonement was the very first movie I saw her in and became aware of her, I think...it’s an obvious Irish name but she had a perfect English accent and so perfectly cast...accents were obviously something she excelled at as a child as well, I would say...James and Kiera, also very well cast.....

Ugh that was heartbreaking [emoji24] how awful for Robbie and Cecilia but you kind of felt bad for Briony too, she was a child and was clearly very confused and thought she was right and had to live a life of guilt afterwards. I know it was that creep the chocolate guy too

Death Becomes Her
Much needed light relief after watching a few pretty depressing films  Actually we had just watched The Father before I put this on and that one is so depressing, very good but sad, (Ammi I think you will like this one it's got Anthony Hopkins in it and it's about Dementia)
Anyway back to Death Becomes Her  It was what it was a bit stupid but hilarious and I love Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn
.....yeah those were my thoughts that it would be a little lighter movie, they all just seemed to be having so much fun and it’s always gorgeous to see Meryl in lighter roles...I will try to get time to watch it later but I have some Pointless stuff to go through and I will watch The Father at some point...

Also how weird is it that Bruce Willis is in it, people usually think of him in Die hard . But he's so different in Death Becomes Her. .
Ernest lived a happier full life without taking the potion , he knew he couldn't live forever. Yeah I think realistically most people wouldn't want to take it .
The funny thing is Hawn & Streep's characters were miserable as hell in the future, they're stuck together for eternity . And the ending was grim and hilarious:joker: . They don't have anyone to put them back together anymore.
Definitely a moral to the story ,of greed and selfishness not getting you anywhere.

...yeah, no rush...I’m fitting them in when I’m able to but knowing I have one to watch does make me take that time out to chill, which is really good...
...I will watch those two but I’m going to have a little diversion first...I’ve just seen this new on Netflix so I’m going to start watching now...

Sixty Six
It was very good and funny  Nice and light but also a heart warming kind of movie. It was nice to see honoury Irish man Big Jack in action  Also, the Cork band
...I watched Murder on the Home Front last night and I also watched the Why did you kill me? true story documentary/movie...I’ll do reviews for them another time...
Niamh.

Is why did you kill me just one show long or a series Ammi? I'll watch them both over the weekend

...in sixty six......I’m pretty sure that I laughed at his dad’s brother’s jokes much more than I was meant to......they were so dumb but I found them funny..

God, this is sad :bawling:
God, this is sad :bawling:
....which are you watching, Vanessa..is it Schindler’s List...?...
...I watched The Game, it’s strange how you can completely miss a film, I hadn’t even heard of this and it’s not a new movie obviously...
...The Game...
....although it was obvious from the beginning that it was all part of an elaborate game, it didn’t spoil any enjoyment of it...I was imagining if it were happening to me, I would still get caught up in it because we would still feel all of the dangers etc and the thrills...I had guessed that it was his brother from the beginning or more or less from the beginning as well...but I had thought that it was all designed by his brother to set up his death for real...(...a similar death to their father, maybe..?..as in to look like suicide...)...so that he inherited all of his money...I hadn’t figured it being a birthday ‘treat’.....
...but yeah, it was still fast paced and exciting and a really entertaining watch...I guess it was just a very, very elaborate version of an Escape Room birthday treat...a rich person’s Escape Room, how the other half live, eh...I did wonder if it would have all made him become addicted then and have to try to search for dangerous/exciting game experiences...I mean, how could he just have a regular party ever again...

Murder on the Home front
it felt very TV movie-ish, I still enjoyed it though. I said to Gav at the start when we were given the suspects, that the Polish guy seemed least likely so it'll probably be him [emoji28] I like a who dunnit though
The Game
I know watched this years ago but I didn't remember anything about it. It was really good though, very different, they caught me with that twist at the end as well, I thought he'd really killed Conrad
...Murder on the Home Front.../...I’ve just realised that I didn’t do one for this yet...
...basically the same as Niamh said, though...in that it felt a bit like a pilot for a TV series and just introducing the characters...and they were all likeable characters so I could see it becoming quite a popular series on a Sunday evening and I love me a murder to solve...the ending was gripping enough but there was nothing really outstanding about it ...I guess that I would describe it as ‘pleasant’ but nothing beyond that...definitely more a TV thing...
...I’ll try to watch People Places Things this evening...
Niamh.
18-04-2021, 03:01 PM
I'll do the same [emoji106]
...People Places Things...
...I guess that it was a relationship breakup movie that felt a bit more real, a bit more ‘relate-able’ I guess because it was about Will’s relationship with his two daughters, with his ex and facing that old dating scene again...plus his work not revolving around solitude at home and him teaching ...the ending of his marriage feeling more the beginning of him being less socially awkward...?...but that was obviously going to be an ongoing process as well, so the movie realistically didn’t show any quick ‘transformations’...he had said himself more or less that things don’t remain the same forever but his lifestyle and mindset etc were doing just that...‘remaining the same’...until he discovered Charlie was cheating on him...anyways, his daughters were adorable......Diane and Kat were lovely.....Will and Charlie’s lives would move on in the time it takes for a life change to move on...he seemed to find it easy to move on from Charlie cheating and forgiving the betrayal etc...but they were just terribly unsuited ...she had been the partner he wanted at a time in focusing on his own career...there were no heroes, there were no villains, there were no awful people etc ...ther were flaws and faults in both ...it was just a movie about a breakup and a moving on process when life suddenly changes and your living box has been tossed around a bit and shaken...
Niamh.

People Places Things
I really liked this one, a bit quirky and an easy watch. I presume those flowers at the end were for Diane, I hope so, i was really hoping he wasn't going to get back with Charlie.
...I saw one last night that I thought for a rewatch possibly but I can’t recall what it was......my head is sponge atm...I have to go now but I’ll check back later to see if you have any thoughts and if not I’ll check Amazon and Netflix later.....

I have 30 minutes left to watch of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, doesn't the actress playing harmony really look like Emma Stone? I was thinking it was Emma Stone first but then realised it couldn't be because she was too young  I was also thinking Robert Downey Jnr looked like Colin Farrell in it and then 2 minutes later they actually mention Colin Farrell in the film

Sleepers
Such a great film, really difficult to watch at times though. I'd love to know how much of it is truth, I'd be willing to bet a lot of it is even though the official line is no case took place like that, I'm sure these kind of abuses were rampant in institutions like these back then. We've heard about a lot of them that were proven. Brilliant cast as well.
...I didn’t have time to say this morning...
....Sleepers...
...it was harrowing obviously and with cases like that, that there is truth to, I always look the true cases up afterwards but obviously we still don’t know because it has some disputed elements an apparent ‘no records’...I felt very sad at the end because of the lives their environment gave them outside of the boys prison as well...the two that were killed when they were very young because their world was so mafia and very violent, they didn’t really get to live a life...I presume that was true as well that they were killed very violently when they were very young...I don’t know how I’ve never seen it before, it’s quite a must see movie but yeah, quite harrowing...Kevin Bacon is shockingly convincing at playing grim people ...

Yes I know it's based on a book written by Lorenzo Carcaterra but at the end of the movie they put up a message saying that the government (I think government or whoever) say no case like this ever took place in New York so it's just going 100% on this man's word if you know what I mean?

Whilst a great film, Sleepers is inconsistent. The first half when they're kids is amazing, but the second half when they're adults is a chore to watch. For years I always struggled to continue after Kevin Bacon's character got his just deserts.
I did mange to finally finish it off last year or the year before. It was good but it just wasn't as good as when they were kids. Still a brilliant film though with amazing acting from everyone, especially Kevin Bacon.

Oh and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is an underrated gem. That film should be seen as RDJ's big comeback but it's annoying that is never is. He was hilarious, as was Val Kilmer as Gay Perry. The chemistry between them was nothing short of brilliant.
Time for a rewatch.

...I guess that the thing with the second half of the movie was more about the court case and how cleverly it was done because the prosecution was actually working to defend...when they were children in the detention centre it was obviously very gripping but harrowing also...it’s an excellent move, for me it’s just not knowing what is true and what isn’t ...all of the abuse I personally think was true and was all covered up...

…Mirage…
…I’ll get the bad bits out of the way first……that’s not to say that it’s a bad film because it’s not at all…but it’s a Spanish movie that the dubbing isn’t great on, it felt a bit long and unnecessarily lingering at times and the music score was very corny and …just boring, holding onto moments for far too long…
….but the story reminded me a lot of Frequency, which is a movie that I enjoyed and maybe a small amount of Deja Vu mixed in as well…I like that time travel, type thing and if there is murder and mystery as well then it’s all good…I also liked the twist that she could save Nico but the ‘trade off’ was that she had to find her way to her daughter again…and it held its suspense quite a bit as well and there was enough twisty stuff…anyways, it picked up speed and pace to the extent that I was more gripped by the story and less gripped by the awful dubbing and music score …it was a worthwhile watch and a good watch and good movie choice……

Oxygen
hhhmmmm I wasn't a massive fan of this, it wasn't terrible but it was kind of boring and we guessed that she was a clone really early on and the minute she started talking to the woman on the phone we knew it was herself as well. meh it was alright
Also, the oxygen levels were flying down at the start and then it seemed to stay at 4% forever, and she was so frustrating with all the time wasting when she was almost 2%

I saw See you Yesterday a while ago and I liked the nod Michael J Fox's character made to time travel lol .
it was good and very topical yet frustrating at the same time, but that was the whole point of it I guess.
And once again highlights the injustice with racism & police brutality, and it was realistic in the way something horrible keeps happening and it feels like it can't be stopped yet the person refuses to admit defeat which you admire.
Another one similar to that which I watched recently was
Two Distant strangers, again very good and emotionally charged, and served as a tribute to real victims who suffered at the hands of trigger happy racism.
And again had the spirit of never giving up despite having everything stacked against you , yet maddening at the same time.
…Oxygen…I’d watched it a few days ago but forgot to post…
…yeah I agree with what you’ve said, Niamh …and why do they always do that…you have two minutes left but you’ll waste them because you PEOPLE Always do…it was slow and not gripping in suspense enough, though because there wasn’t really anything new…I think in doing that vibe of story, there would have to be a twist that we just couldn’t have foreseen….anyways, two more positive things that I can think…
…I really liked the actress, Mélanie Laurent…she’s not someone I’m familiar with and is very lovely…looking forward to seeing her in other roles…
…I guess it was the perfect movie to make in social distancing to film etc…because times have been very limited in the industry…I’m not sure if it was filmed in COvID times but it feels as though it might have been…
…See You Yesterday…
…this was a Spike Lee movie and released as part of Black History month…?…it was an excellent movie, I loved it……it was obviously a nod to Back to the Future and even a featuring role for Michael J…but blending with grief and loss that families can face which kept it very poignant and emotional as well …I wasn’t entirely sure about the ending and presumed that CJ would keep going back and back until she could prevent her brother’s death plus no one else be killed ‘in his place’ either…that she would never give up and find a way…?…

See You Yesterday
Ugh how could they end it like that!!!!?????? A part from the ending it was really good, I suppose there's a more powerful message in there than time travel, that moment when the Police Officer is leaning on Sebastian's neck especially.
One thing that I was screaming at the TV though was why when she was trying to convince Calvin that he was about to get shot did she try to get him to leave like that, that was never going to work, why didn't she run up to him and say "Calvin you have to follow me, there's something wrong with mom" he would have ran straight after her with no hesitation or questions asked
Loved the nod to Michael J Fox and back to the future too
Niamh.

Oh yes I watched that too, it was a very similar theme and way of telling this story, a very clever idea I thought

…See You Yesterday…
…this was a Spike Lee movie and released as part of Black History month…?…it was an excellent movie, I loved it……it was obviously a nod to Back to the Future and even a featuring role for Michael J…but blending with grief and loss that families can face which kept it very poignant and emotional as well …I wasn’t entirely sure about the ending and presumed that CJ would keep going back and back until she could prevent her brother’s death plus no one else be killed ‘in his place’ either…that she would never give up and find a way…?…
Oh I didn't realise it was Spike Lee.
Yes i suppose that's the message with the ending which is a powerful one of course but I just wanted to know if she succeeded

…Michael J Fox is such a sweetheart, isn’t he…I love his humour and he’s quite self mocking …even in such a small fleeting moment in the screen, he makes such an impact……I loved the movie, GoldHeart…..
Yeah he's lovely :) , I enjoyed his little appearance.

I guess the point is she'll keep trying, I was also a bit annoyed with the ending but I understood the message.
And I don't think she could ever stop her brother from being killed, I think no matter what she tries .
Very much like 2 distant strangers,he knows he's screwed but he keeps fighting it anyway. Bleak reality of it all. But I was still shouting at the telly though lol.
…Two Distant Strangers is screening on Netflix, GoldHeart…I’m going to watch it now…thanks for the recommendation……

Oh guys The Doors is coming on Netflix on Sunday, I've seen it years ago but would definitely rewatch it. I was obsessed with them when I was 16
…I don’t think that I’ve ever seen The Doors movie so I’m definitely up for watching it….there is also an Amy Adams movie on Netflix…(…which has a pretty awful critic review……)…I mean it is quite bad …but it’s Amy Adams and described as a Hitchcockian type thriller similar to Rear Window so it’s a must see…?…even though it might be bad…

…Two Distant Strangers…(…short movie…)….
….wow….I can obviously see the similarity in See You Yesterday…a very emotionally charged Groundhog Day…?….it’s so provoking of thought of how helpless that would feel …like being told the day that you’ll die but more than that because you have to live it over and over again…?….a nightmare on a loop…obviously it can’t be said that any of the deaths weren’t upsetting but the first one which was so similar../…almost identical to George Floyd…and when the police officer said something similar to…’..I’ve never talked to any of you people for this long before…’….and he really seemed to be getting through to the officer and there was hope that maybe this time…?…but that final shot in the back… a short movie but such a deep movie that really leaves an impact…

The Woman In The Window
Just watched this tonight
It was better than I thought it would be, half way through I got worried the movie would feel like a confusing effort. But I'm glad things were explained, especially with her family as that made sense in the end.
As I kept thinking why doesn't the ex husband visit her with the daughter, I actually thought the twist was going to be that she's living in a psychiatric UNIT or something. But I knew something wasn't right.

Yeah, I briefly thought that it was going to be that she had become obsessed with her kid's stepmother/husband's new girlfriend somehow. And then either caused or witnessed her death but I couldn't get that to make sense.

interesting lol , but i got the impression she might have been having an affair . When we saw the flash back to the car crash there was tension , and the husband told her to answer the phone and said something like " it must be him" ( i'm assuming the guy she was seeing) . That annoyed me how she got distracted by the phone though which caused the accident.

Omg that is such a great movie!
….I actually really liked The Woman in the Window …Amy Adams is one of my favourite actresses plus it was an excellent overall cast as well…
…it felt a little bit like another movie that was made with COVID restrictions because it was so non close contact filming…even when they were all at her apartment with the police officers…?…it was so lovely and perfect for her to have had an apartment big enough for them to be able to do the 2metre distance thing…it didn’t really have me on the edge of my seat like some movies of that type have …but it did have me edging closer to the edge in that it was quite tense in moments…
….I guess the reality of the police officer giving her, her phone to wipe when she was suicidal probably was a bit stretched…and then her being fine and outdoors etc at the end when it would have been such a process for her, which I’ve seen with agoraphobics……but I’m picking, I don’t know why the critics have been so harsh on it, it’s not a bad movie at all and an enjoyable couple of hours spent…

Was it filmed in COVID restrictions?
I could've sworn this filmed in 2018, was sent back into reshoots after test audiences didn't understand it in 2019 and then the release delayed and ultimately sold to Netflix because theatres closed?
Then again, I could be thinking of another movie.
I agree with your point about her suicide note. You would have thought her safety would be a priority after what they'd put her through?

…no, you are right…the filming was apparently completed at the end of 2018 so just before COVID…it felt like the perfect movie genre to have been able to be made with distancing restrictions…as well as Rear Window, I’m reading that it’s also had comparisons to Copycat, with Sigourney Weaver playing an agoraphobic psychologist…I know that I have seen that but don’t recall much about it…I think that involved a serial case that she was helping with if I recall…

Oh that sounds interesting. I'll have to look out for that.
Loved Rear Window so I enjoyed seeing where the movie followed the tropes from that movie and where it subverted them. I don't understand the critics panning it either, nor the test audiences confusion. It's not the greatest movie ever, but it's perfect for what it is. My only real gripe was seeing so little of Jennifer Jason Leigh and Julianne Moore.
Although I do suspect JJL was cast to make the audience suspect she was the villain.

…yeah I’m just reading still about it and the constant delays in the movie release and then there was some reshooting …it’s said that it was a lot more difficult to adapt to screen than had been thought so it could be that some of the other characters parts were cut as well and had originally been planned as bigger…?…

Oh I didn't realise it was an adaptation. Possibly that's what happened then.
…maybe that was part of the criticism as well, if it was difficult to adapt so, so much more was hoped from it as the author is a Pulitzer Prize winner…he actually played a role in the movie as well as Anna’s psychologist …which is also very much a nod to Hitchcock …because isn’t it also said that he often made a small appearance in his movies…
…Amy Adams also had to go off to do some filming for Hillbilly Elergy as well while the reshoots for this were happening …so it all just sounds a bit disjointed…(…I’m not sure if disjointed is a movie filming term…a bit higgledy piggledy…?…)…

…The Doors…
…I hadn’t seen the movie before, Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Jim was almost spooky, really…I mean, he totally became Jim Morrison…but also how it was filmed, we almost felt those ‘trips’ as well, we really did walk through his eyes, well his trippy eyes…I thought Meg Ryan was well cast as well as Pam…I hadn’t realised how short a time after his death that she died as well…he was such a brilliant poet, wasn’t he….anyways yeah, very absorbing and a great recommendation, Niamh……in the stage performances, Val really did become Jim…

The Doors
great film although I agree with Ammi that you felt like you were almost on that drug journey with him, I nearly felt sick by the end from it [emoji28] I felt really bad for Pam, he treated her terribly really, I wonder how different her life would have been if he'd never persued her. I feel like I watched it with different eyes now compared to when I first watched it at 16. I suppose I saw him as less cool this time and more narcissistic and cruel, maybe not so much cruel but selfish? Still though, so unique and talented as well. Certainly a poet more than anything else
Jim Morrison, what a poet, what a vocalist, but equally, a total nutter

Just doing a bit of reading up on the true story and
thankfully Jim never locked Pam into a Closet and set it on fire and also never threw a TV at his band mate. Oddly Pam was also 27 when she died
…I read that how his personality was depicted in the movie wasn’t that accurate to the Jim that closer friends knew…and Oliver Stone himself said that his Jim Morrison of the movie was more an abstract painting of the person, his ‘artist interpretation’….
…he was an incredible talent and his performances were intense …/…mesmerising…

Detroit looks good
….Detroit…WOW….
…it took me a little while to settle into it, just because I didn’t understand how Will Poulter’s character was still out there and doing active duty when his superior had said that he was going to be charged for the first incident…but there he was and able to do what he did…I mean, what to say about a story like this, it was so harrowing and gruelling and terrifying…it felt more like a horror movie and them all waiting to die one by one…because it really was a horror and just staggering to think that this was just the late 60’s….I felt as though the courtroom part went too quickly but at the same time, it wouldn’t have worked for it to be any longer because of the verdict…how those poor people and their families would have felt …one of the most appalling of stories and injustice…… I was thinking while I was watching, with the emotional and physically torturous ordeal they were being put through…how it must be for an actor to play that….it’s not a movie/story that will leave the thoughts very easily…

…it’s actually not too far in…I don’t want to give too much away obviously but I guess that it could be described as a three section story and establishing the emotions in Detroit between the police and the black community is important so that the actual ‘event’ can follow on ….we also have to be introduced to some significant characters which we are in the first half….I don’t know in terms of actual time but it didn’t feel that long in establishing it once the movie reached the specific story it was telling…

Detroit
That was a very difficult watch (and not for the reasons I thought it would be at the start  ) The "event" itself was so tough to sit through and Freds death was so awful right at the end, I was shouting at him to just lie and get out of there :( I suppose they don't really know that that's what happened if he was the last one to leave though?
Such an injustice afterwards as well and in 1967 I'm really not at all surprised those scumbags got away with it, they probably would have gotten away with it 10 years ago lets be real
I was really worried there was going to be a rape scene in it and I'm glad that didn't happen, I wondered did it really happen that Julies dress was torn off or did they add that in so I googled it and in fact what they did was worse. I wonder why those cops couldn't have been charged with sexual assault as well?
Were the two white women at the motel forcibly stripped naked by police?
Yes. However, in the movie only Juli Hysell is forcibly stripped, and it happens largely by accident when Officer Krauss is being too rough with her. Fact-checking Detroit confirms that after the occupants of the motel's annex were lined up and hit by officers who demanded to know who was supposedly sniping from the motel, the two 18-year-old girls, Juli Hysell and Karen Malloy, were stripped naked and verbally harassed. It is unclear why this was toned down for the film. -The Algiers Motel Incident

Just an over all appalling story, nothing feel good about it but important non the less to know these things happened, especially in the climate we're currently living in

Any picks for the weekend Ammi?
…I was going to watch Blue Miracle last night but then watched Friends Reunion instead…it might be more an afternoon movie, though…but it looks like it could be a lovely watch…

…A recommendation that I’ve had from someone is Palmer… But I don’t think it’s on any of my streaming sites…

Premonition with Sandra Bullock? . Yeah it's watchable I actually rewatched it not long ago.
…I look forward to your thoughts as well, GoldHeart…
..Premonition…
…I’d forgotten the ending and I have to say that through the movie I was annoyingly distracted in trying to recall what the ending was….I’m pretty sure that this movie didn’t get very good critics reviews but I liked it…it reminded me of Memento because of that reliving and reliving that one day, thing….I guess the only thing that I felt or didn’t feel I guess would be more the thing…is any connection between them…but then she did question, should she just let it happen…?….but yeah, we connected with her and her daughters and her mother etc …but we didn’t connect with him…well, I didn’t…it was a good movie, though…very thought provoking…and the ending gave as much sense of ‘closure’ as it could have in that it gave her that purpose and that hope …not just for Linda but for the girls as well…

Premonition
I liked this one even though it was a bit mind bending, she basically caused him to die trying to stop him dying
Blue Miracle
It was a nice feel good movie and lovely that it was true as well what a great guy Papa Omar is
