…I look forward to your thoughts as well, GoldHeart…

..Premonition…

…I’d forgotten the ending and I have to say that through the movie I was annoyingly distracted in trying to recall what the ending was….I’m pretty sure that this movie didn’t get very good critics reviews but I liked it…it reminded me of Memento because of that reliving and reliving that one day, thing….I guess the only thing that I felt or didn’t feel I guess would be more the thing…is any connection between them…but then she did question, should she just let it happen…?….but yeah, we connected with her and her daughters and her mother etc …but we didn’t connect with him…well, I didn’t…it was a good movie, though…very thought provoking…and the ending gave as much sense of ‘closure’ as it could have in that it gave her that purpose and that hope …not just for Linda but for the girls as well…
Premonition
not a bad thriller, when I first saw it I found it ashame that she couldn't actually prevent the husband's death, and the time lines were confusing at first . And I was surprised she then got pregnant again.
But rewatching it I just accept it for what it is , keeps you engaged and like you said there's the connection with her and the daughters. Like I said it was an ok movie

Premonition

I liked this one even though it was a bit mind bending, she basically caused him to die trying to stop him dying

Blue Miracle

It was a nice feel good movie and lovely that it was true as well what a great guy Papa Omar is

…Blue Miracle…

…really exactly the same as you’ve said is how we felt…it was a lovely feel good story and then just extra lovely because it was a true story, I hadn’t realised that…Papa Omar…..

…I watched Blue Ruin a little while ago and I liked it, I liked Deight’s character and you feared for him all of the way through because he was so out of his depth, type thing…

…I watched I am All of the Girls last night….I had avoided it when I’d seen the trailer….actually I didn’t watch the full trailer, I felt that it was something that was going to be too difficult to watch…?..but I’m glad that I did, as harrowing as things like that are which are true stories…it’s important to know them …for those children it’s important…

The Meyerowitz Stories

It was very good, I liked seeing Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler in more serious roles. I'm glad Danny finally stopped allowing his dad to treat him so shabbily in the end and told him no. It's so sad really how Harold just discarded Danny and Jean when he divorced their mother, so tough for kids to go through that type of rejection and it really effects them all through their lives. It was nice though that all the siblings became close by the end.

As a side note, Ben Stiller really could be Dustin Hoffmans son

…The Meyerowitz Stories…

…I loved Danny, I loved his relationship with his daughter…they had such a connection……I loved how angry he got behind the wheel of a car……just really well written characters and so well cast…their ‘stories’ just drew you into their family completely and some incredible names in relatively small parts…excellent…..

…is anyone up for a 2024 reboot…?…

…I have a few possible movie suggestions and I’ll post some trailers to check out…obviously it would be nice to have more watch suggestions from everyone taking part so the vibe is ‘something for everyone…’….in terms of tastes and genres etc…the big sticky thing will be streaming access and all being able to access the same movie for free…as paid for movies are not an option…anyway, I’ll post some suggestions just because I’ve checked out Netflix to see what’s airing there atm…but we won’t start anything up until we know for sure that everyone can access a chosen movie….

Ammi
03-04-2024, 11:44 AM
…so I’ll do a little write up because I watched this last night…How I Met a Femme Fatale/Watching the Detectives…

…with the name change confusion…?…I did wonder if it was hoped for the movie to be a theatre release, which didn’t happen…but that title name was something that was looked at as a possible change to try to ‘boost that to the big screen’ as it were …anyway….

…I liked the concept of the storyline that Cillian’s character, Neil was looking for a romance that had movie adventure as well because he was such a movie fan…he was looking for that real life Femme Fatale, if you like…and then he got exactly that with Violet…and Lucy Liu is so excellent at playing that kind of unconventional spontaneous type character…a lil’ bit of crazy in all the lovely ways…Cillian was also perfectly cast as Neil…

….I think it’s unfortunate that the movie probably isn’t that well known or hasn’t been up until now in a time when Cillian is the next best thing of all next best things…so hopefully the sensation that he’s become will boost this movie as well in terms of watches because it’s really a good romcom and I’m not generally a romcom person….Cillian and Lucy make it adorable, they are adorable together as leads…:flutter:…but it’s a good plot as well and the support cast are all pretty solid also…it’s a definite feel good and just a lovely and worthy watch…a rare gem find and one that I would recommend to others for a rainy afternoon or evening…well found, Niamh…..….

Ok I watched it, I want to wait to read yours til after I do mine Ammi

hhhhmmm It was a bit of a stupid story, Cillian Murphys character Neil was not a "nice guy" at all like what was the point in him getting the waiter to spill water on his first g/f? And because he wasn't going to take advantage of the apparent drunk Violet on their first date that made him better than all the other men? he's a giant man child and Violet basically admits she's not actually that wild and crazy but really insecure and desperate. 5/10 I like both actors but hated these 2 characters. i did like Lucy lui's wardrobe though

…I watched another Cillian Murphy movie called The Party…it’s a black and white movie and a one/single location type plot …(…which is set at the party, strangely enough…)…so it has that feel of a theatre play as well…?…and I like that a lot, when it all becomes about the acting and the actors because it’s ’non eventful’ and yet…lives are being emotionally played out so it’s very eventful…anyway, obviously with that vibe and genre, the cast choice is key to it all and it’s an excellent cast…….

…yeah, there’s no rush with the movies…I think if we see something or, we can just watch…I don’t know what the quick way would be to check which free movies YouTube have and we could pick one from there when we feel like a watch…the only things that I could see on there were Chuck Norris movies….but I’m up for those as well……

Dexter is still an excellent series, I'd still recommend even though the last season and ending wasn't great, imo they made up for that with the new 1 off season they did just recently. I can't go into much detail about what they did in that newer last season but it made me more satisfied with the ending as a whole. Season 2 of Dexter is probably my favourite of any TV show ever

Yes, I mean it was of it's time but nowadays we'd be calling that rape. That aside, it's such a funny film and Dessie absolutely steals the show

The film is actually an adaption of a tirlogy of books by Roddy Doyle called the Barrystown Trilogy, they're not exactly sequels about the same people but they're all centered around the same area. The Commitments and The Van are the other two, they're both very good as well (you may have seen the Commitments? the was the most famous of the 3)

…yeah, it was of it’s time but it’s that he kept her underwear as well so that he could ‘brag’ and had a ‘souvenir ’…I found that all very difficult…

No they're all stand alone stories, just set in the same area is all

And I think they probably dealt with him/his character as harshly as he could have been dealt with at the time, it just wasn't considered sexual assault or rape back then (horribly and wrongly) him being made out as a sleazy pervert was about as much as he could get

…yeah, it was dealt with well, I have to say…because even ‘of its time’, it didn’t portray that behaviour and those actions from George as being any acceptable thing, it was shown as him being perverted…I mean, Dessie wasn’t that man…it was very specific at being that one older guy…what was nice, I thought…is how much mindsets had actually moved on…(…I’m thinking about mindsets and judgement with things like the Magdalene Laundries…)…and how accepting the family and outer community were with single motherhood…the judgement being laid was that it was that older pervert, George…and even now in these times…?…there would be some judgement in Sharon also for being a victim….on social media etc…we see similar stuff often, that older guy just couldn’t help himself, poor thing……

Yeah people would still absolutely judge her nowadays I think, sometimes I think we're even regressing in ways, people are extreemly judgmental on social media

haha yeah, you could imagine that was true in a lot of cases back then

Oh really? That's a very common phrase here. Gas craic is also used as in "last night was gas craic" (a great laugh)

We don't really use it that way, it always means something or someone was funny, or kind a funny coincidence as well. Like, "I never went to my school reunion I went on holiday instead and when i was in Spain I bumped into someone I went to school with" - "That's gas isn't it?"

…an educational journey…?..

…I loved that……Snapper was about family and that was quite a bit about friendship…I wasn’t sure if the ‘Mind that Snapper’ logo on the back of the van was a nod to the other movie…Colm Meaney is just such an incredibly likeable actor…even when he plays ‘mean’ he still has a likeable quality…I felt my anxiety rise when that gang were throwing batteries and it was all so forceful that the van was shaking…I was worried about the hot oil and it spilling on them, that really bothered me…and also at the end when they drove the van after they’d been to the pub…I was relieved they got to sink it in safety……it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon……

I just re-watched it as well  Yeah I'd imagine that was a nod to the Snapper. I don't think it's as good as The Snapper or The Commitments but I do like it anyway.

…no, I did like The Snapper characters more and just that whole family vibe that it had…Dessie and Sharon’s relationship was gorgeous and him becoming a grandfather etc…but this was still lovely…I think for me, maybe that they didn’t really hugely get into the chipper and fall in love with the business…?…that maybe I didn’t get into the characters quite as much…plus I didn’t like it when they had their night out and were with those other ladies…I felt for the wives…I probably overthink some stuff…

Yeah I was the same about that night out, Bimbo seemed to be a bit guilty about it but Larry only seemed bothered that he couldn't get a kiss off that girl and his wife was so lovely too. Larry wasn't a very nice person really, not half as nice as Dessie was. I did like the nostalgia of the world cup in the first half of the film, i remember it all vividly, it's still the best we've ever done internationally. I was around 12 at the time and I remember watching all those matches at home, especially that penalty shoot out, the whole family going crazy

…yeah, I loved that bit also and really could have stayed in that vibe…I love the positivity and patriotism things like sport for instance, can bring…I’m sure we watched a movie club film one time that had that with the 1966 World Cup but I can’t recall which movie it was…maybe I didn’t watch it for the movie club…

We did! ohhh what was it called again?? It was something about the final clashing with the boys Bar mitzvah or something and everyone told him not to worry England would never make the final?

…yeah, that was it…I’ve been getting two movies/storylines intertwined and mixed up in my head because I kept thinking Blinded by the Light, the Bruce Springsteen fan one…but also knew it wasn’t that …it’s really annoying when you just can’t pin it down…he arranged his bar mitzvah because it was such a safe date and then England won the World Cup that year……all the time, we knew it was going to happen….I love that kind of patriotism things like that bring out…just completely positive, you can feel it in your bones……
