I dunno, but with all that money she has, I'd expect her to dress better.
So we've gone from tax cuts to everyone to tax rises for everyone in the space of about 6 weeks :joker:
It's going to be a hard sell that these are a necessity when we were told that taxes could be cut across the board so recently
they dont want to mention the elephant in the room, that it was the BoE stepping in to sort out the Truss mess that has put us in this bad position

We know there's bad news coming later this month.
Which unless he and his Ministers admit that in a good part that's because of his predecessor.
He'll lose more credibility.
Because unfortunately most of Sunak's ministers supported Truss's policies too.
However, the procrastination element remains from both his previous predecessors .
Decision making taking too long and kicking things down the road for a while.
For as long as Braverman is a minister, his pledge of integrity is shot to pieces.
I don't think he's going to be up to the top job either.
Which is sadly unfortunate for the Country.

This country has well and truly gone to the dogs. I heard reports yesterday that a 2-year recession will continue to cripple the UK, but oddly, the news was downplayed.
Bizarre.
Maybe we're all used to being on the breadline now, and looking down the back of the sofa for spare pennies, that more bad news isn't anything we didn't expect.

There was a crisis before the leadership election which put Truss in.
However she was incompetently deluded.
Then added bigtime to the crisis.
I don't envy Sunak and Hunt on this.
Plus from their soundings it seems things are worse possibly than even they thought.
My fears are for the poorest and most vulnerable also sick and disabled.

I do hope they really set out to ensure full protection for them.
However the pain now to come for those working families in the middle could be equally unbearable.
Yes good points Joey,
we are stuck with this Thursday Budget.
from what i can gather, the tax increases are going to come from freezing tax thresholds over the coming years and spending cuts are going to come from not increasing the cash services get with inflation, so the impact wont be felt really until after the next election.

The price of some of the most popular branded food items has jumped in just two years, new research suggests, putting further strain on shoppers.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup saw the biggest average percentage increase, with its 460g top-down version up by 53% or 91p, according to Which?
It also found that Dolmio Lasagne Sauce (470g) saw the second-biggest jump, up 61p in two years.
Its survey compared prices of 79 items across six major supermarkets.
The consumer group's findings suggest that the price of some of Britain's favourite branded products might be rising more quickly than the overall cost of living, which is going up at its fastest rate in 40 years.
Inflation, which measures how the cost of living changes over time, currently stands at 10.1%.
Which? analysed the cost of branded food items available in Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose over a 30-day period from 21 September to 20 October in both 2020 and 2022.

Not long to go now. I heard there is a chance they will give out £400.00 Christmas grants to the poor. Fingers crossed for a woman down our road who is really struggling money wise. :(

They're sneaky as well, they do all correspondence by post and don't even send letters on registered delivery or anything. I have a letterbox in my door and one outside my garden and the postmen always mix up which one they use. I only check the one at the garden every few days and found a final reminder to pay my council tax in there or face a court summons. It only gave 7 days to pay from when it was sent as well even though it would have taken a few days to be delivered. By the time I saw it 14 days had passed and I logged onto my account to see they'd prepared a court summons for me :fist:
After waiting an hour on hold I eventually got through to someone on the council to persuade them to drop that and I paid what I owed, it is my fault tbf as I'm pretty rubbish at paying and apparently had already had two reminders earlier in the year hence the final warning letter. Seems crazy though when they have my number and email address that they'll only send things by post and when it's not signed for then how do they even know I've received the letter.

What has the chancellor announced?
[Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is laying out his plan for
the country's finances going forward
in the House of Commons.
Here is what the chancellor has announced:
Tax as a percentage of GDP will increase
by just 1% over the next five years;
On personal tax, he will reduce the threshold
at which the 45p rate becomes payable from
£150,000 to £125,140.
Those earning £150,000 or more will pay
just over £1,200 more a year;
The annual exempt amount for capital gains
tax will be cut from £12,300 to £6,000 next year
and then to £3,000 from April 2024;
From April 2025, electric cars will no longer
be exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty;
On windfall taxes, from 1 January until March 2028
he will increase the energy profits
levy from 25% to 35%;
Also from 1 January, "we have also decided
to introduce a new, temporary 45% levy
on electricity generators... together these taxes
raise £14bn next year".
Stamp duty cuts will stay in
place until March 2025;
While the employers' national insurance
contributions threshold is frozen until April 2028,
the employment allowance will be retained
at its new, higher level of £5,000 until March 2026;
Hunt confirms the UK will continue
to maintain the defence budget at
least 2% of GDP to be consistent with
our NATO commitment - but there is no 3% commitment
as previously promised;
600,000 more people on Universal Credit
will be asked to meet with a work coach
to increase hours or earnings;
On education, the chancellor has said he
will invest an extra £2.3bn per year in schools;
A £2.8bn funding increase for the social care sector;
With regards to the NHS,
the government will increase the budget
for healthcare by £3.3bn;
Government will proceed with new nuclear power plant
at Sizewell C;
By 2030, government wants
to reduce energy consumption from
buildings and industry by 15%;
From 2025, there will be a further £6n
in funding to deliver the UK's
new energy efficiency ambition;
Two new fiscal rules - the first is that
underlying debt must fall as a percentage
of GDP by the fifth year of a
rolling five-year period.
The second is that public sector borrowing,
over the same period, must be below 3% of GDP;
Proceed with round two of the levelling
up fund to at least match the
£1.7bn value of round one;
From April, the government will continue the
Energy Price Guarantee for a further 12 months
at a higher level of £3,000 per year
for the average household.
With prices forecast to remain elevated
through next year;
The government will cap the increase
in social rents at a maximum of 7% in 2023-24;
Additional cost of living payments next year
of £900 to households on
means-tested benefits; £300 to pensioner
households and £150 for individuals
on disability benefit;
The chancellor said he is accepting
the recommendation of the
Low Pay Commission to increase
it next year by 9.7%.
That means, from April 2023,
the hourly rate will be £10.42
which represents an annual
pay rise worth over £1,600
to a full time worker;
Plan to help make Britain the
'new Silicon valley' will also see
public funding for R&D (research and development)
increased to £20bn by 2024/5;
In April, the state pension will increase
in line with inflation, an £870 increase.]

To be fair however Lib Dem ones too.
Because it's becoming a pattern where Lib Dems suggest something, or Labour suggest something.

people want good health services and the tories haven't been able to improve them in 12 years. For that, and now countless other reasons, the tory party is a dead man walking.
I've been talking to quite a few traditional tory voters recently and not one of them will vote conservative at the next election

That's interesting to hear bots.
I do have many Con contacts and friends.
I'm certainly finding the softer vote for the Cons now changing.
Some indicating they just won't vote in the next election.
Or who now will vote Labour now.
More to get this government out than any liking of Starmer or new love for Labour.
Which is why I hope Starmer will bring about relevant and strong policies.
Plus my own crusade with other Labour members for PR.
It does seem possibly that voters are realising in this in the main 2 Party system.
That the only way to ensure this Con government can be got rid of, is to vote for the ONLY Party that can beat it.
Namely Labour.
Strong points from you there bots.

Great points from you both.
It is strange
as last time, Labour were predicted
to win, a few years before John Major won an Election
after taking over from Thatcher in 1990.
Second John Major Term (1992–1997)
Current Sunak PM knows he can not call a General Election
until the last moment
So loads of people can threaten they are never
voting Conservative again.
Unless Labour Leader Starmer slips up?

Someone told my friend that she could be able to receive extra payments on top of her Cost of Living payments.
So she went to the website where, if you're very poor and in need, you can apply for grants and extra money to see you through the winter. This fund apparently runs into a few billion.
The website said 'press here to apply.'
'Applications for the Household Support Fund are now closed.'
Some fookin' help that is.:fist: Why is there a closing date? She's not applying for next new Big Brother. She's applying for help! Jeez, this country is just getting worse!
