Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made Gareth Southgate his No.1 choice to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United boss this summer.
And United investor Ratcliffe is growing increasingly confident of being able to lure the England boss to Old Trafford. His contract runs out in December and the FA are desperate to get him to sign a new one.
But he has refused to discuss his future until after Euro 2024 in Germany. It would cost Ratcliffe around £800,000 in compensation for Southgate - and he would like a decision from him sooner rather than later, so he can plan for next season and beyond.
Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford have consulted some of United’s former greats about who should replace Ten Hag. And the overwhelming choice was Southgate.
Southgate also has the backing of some of United’s current players - and incoming director of football Dan Ashworth. Southgate has a close relationship with Ashworth following their time together at the FA, with the latter being a huge supporter of the 53-year-old.

The two Prem giants ( ManC and Chelski ) have effectively been told they could face the ultimate sanction - by the Commission that deducted Nottingham Forest four points this week.
In their 52-page written reasons, Robert Glancy KC, sports law specialist Mark Hovell and accountancy expert Steve Holt explain why they came to the Forest judgement and put the City Ground club’s £34.5m breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules in context.
They point to the unlimited sanctions available in any case, “ranging from a warning through to expulsion from the Premier League”.
The Commission added: “Where a PSR breach is 'minor', then it will be for other Commissions to determine if any points deduction is necessary, appropriate or proportionate
“But if the breach is properly described as 'major' then it may be the case that even a very severe sanction such as expulsion is more appropriate.”
The scale of the allegations against City and the Chelsea admissions suggest both cases would fit the “major” category IF they are proven.”

In the UK we always think that England are going to win stuff "if only it weren't for that dastardly Manager," when imo we never win stuff because our players have a terrible attitude half of the time.

they are not really injured
Chelsea only have the FA Cup to play for now, and keeping Palmer fit is a must. I feel like Kane's injury is hugely important for Arsenal CL tie. I think with Kane Bayern edge it, without him i think Arsenal could get through.
england players have to turn up, if they refuse, they risk being excluded during important competitions, but if they feel the slightest niggle, they will cry off injured and go home. It's not a new phenomena

Supposedly great players like Michael Owen , Mick Channon and Micky Quinn all played football to fund their love of horse breeding .. and none of them listed football as their favourite sport or pastime
Getting back to Ben White I heard that he was incensed by something said to him by one of England’s back room staff at the World Cup despite Southgate claiming otherwise

It's not that they "had/have" to pay for sex lets be honest. It's because there is more anonymity when going with escorts/hookers. They could usually easy get sex every day of the week with plenty of wannabe WAGS, but they don't want to get caught.

Tbf, I imagine that happens in a lot of Sports, where talented people at a particular Sport love another Sport more, but are less gifted at their preferred Sport.

Ronaldo definitely has a unique personality.

It’s been the topic for the past 15 minutes on TalkSport
They had a woman player and a spokesperson for women’s football as guests
The spokesperson was very defensive throughout .. she was asked about Arsenal WFC apparently giving tickets away for free .. she said she didn’t think that was correct but that she felt a lot of people buy tickets for women’s football but don’t attend !
She said it’s mainly family oriented so if the kids are poorly or don’t want to go then the family won’t go ..
Her responses seemed a bit word of mouth rather than being fact based ..
She was adamant that Arsenal women should be playing their games at the Emirates stadium …
The female player seemed more grounded and said she didn’t like playing on huge grounds in front of a small audience but preferred playing to a packed house in a small ground .

The only complaint I see .. and very regularly is all the largely unknown female pundits hired to impart their ( dubious) expertise/ experience on the men’s games … at the same time pushing well known / liked/ respected male pundits out of the back door ..

The only thing that I will say, is how are any of these women suppose to prove that they're there on merit if they're never given a chance? It's all about balancing this sort of stuff out, something that Football hasn't quite fully worked out yet.

I think it'll feel weird if we get rid of VAR now, it's such a massive part of the game at this point. It does need a massive overhaul in the summer though.

Controversially I will say that being overrepresented is also an issue.
I say this because it more than likely means that the corporation in question is more concerned with looking good, rather than the quality of their product (whatever that product may be) it's likely to be problematic in execution of the quality.

I like Troy Deeney, and hope that you're right.
There are three things that he needs to do first though.
1. Learn from his mistakes at Forest Green.
2. Learn these mistakes away from Blues.
And 3. Once he has learned his craft, become Blues Manager.
