What is it with Neville and some of the other Pundits issue with calling out incompetence from the Referees in the Premier League.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67339304

Don't get me wrong I don't support violence or threatening behaviour towards the Referees (which I know is something that can happen to Football Referees) but I don't think it's "dangerous" for Arteta or any other Manager for that matter to want better officials in the best League of the biggest Sport in the world.

I can't tell if Neville is appealing to the Snowflakes crowd, or if he is supporting what I suspect to be corruption in the Premier League? Because I wonder if he'd be so against Arteta's comments if he was managing Man Utd, and it was them that was being given unfair decisions against Newcastle.

Mystic Mock
06-11-2023, 10:31 PM
Also every challenge from Joelinton is a foul .. he leads with his elbows, he barges into people and leaves his foot into every tackle , pulls and grabs at set pieces

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It's because he knows that he can get away with it.

And foul or not, the ball was clearly out for a goal kick beforehand, how the Referee, the Linesman & VAR have all missed that is too unbelievable imo, there needs to be an investigation into that whole incident from an independent panel.

Mystic Mock
06-11-2023, 10:33 PM
yeah, i think there is much too much frustration/outcry from players and coaches across the league. They need to settle down, and let the refs settle down too. The alterative won't be good for anyone

The Referees aren't helping themselves I feel when they sometimes miss things that Mikey from BB9 would spot.

Because everyone who comes into this thread knows for an absolute FACT, that if that challenge had been made on an Arsenal or Liverpool player you'd have posted 80 screenshots, made 50 posts about how VAR is a joke, and how "flair" players need protecting.

You have set the bar extremely high now for future violent conduct, anything you moan about that is deemed less than that career ending leg break attempt will be meaningless. You will look foolish if you complain about someone tugging a shirt of one your Arsenal or Liverpool players.

It was a clear red, anyone can see that, and you would have seen that too if Udogie tried to break say Salah's or Saka's leg in the same vein. You are the one constantly saying in this thread about the rough players and challenges. How you can not see that was a red is literally unreal to me.

Yes but there are THOUSANDS of game worldwide each WEEKEND were there are no issues !!!

Where has he plucked the figure of THOUSANDS of games featuring VAR each weekend ?!!?

I'm with Arteta's Lightbulb on this.

Plus all Arteta stated was his opinion, if someone takes what he says and escalates it into a violent scenario, then that's the individual who is to blame for clearly not getting treatment for mental issues.

I'm sick to death of the Media and sections of the public that moan about people daring to critique and demand standards within society/certain fields of entertainment, because if you dare to not watch your P & Q's you'll be accused of one of three things.

1. Some form of prejudice.

2. To use Gary Neville's term, it's "dangerous" as he is clearly insinuating that Arteta could incite a lunatic to start attacking the Referee, thus trying to shutdown any criticism of the Referee's performance during the match.

3. Think of the Referee's "Mental Health" which I think is a real low blow when I have seen people use this argument, because these people are taking an extremely serious situation that a lot of people genuinely go through, just to stop Arteta or anyone else from saying that the Referee and VAR were awful, and that Stevie Wonder would've been better (I've added that part in) Arteta isn't stupid enough to say something like that, unlike myself.

But my point stands that using Mental Health arguments to stop critique of a Referee is really low imo, and the same goes in other fields where Celebrities and their fans try to guilt trip their detractors into not criticizing them because they've got "poor Mental Health" which is really code for "I've got a huge ego and can't handle criticism."

Society and the Media both need to have a long hard look at themselves here when it comes to critique, because imo there's a huge difference between critique and verbal abuse being aimed at someone, sadly though some people can't tell the difference between the two going by how Arteta's common sense critique is now so controversial to say.

As for the officials, and VAR as a whole, we all know that a bunch of primary school kids could do better. They are so bad, they misjudge so much, that it's actually got me thinking they are indeed corrupt now. If they're not corrupt then future English football is in grave danger!

The Referee's can be even worse in the Championship.

I mean to be completely fair here, how we never conceded a penalty against Middlesbrough a few games back was an absolute miracle.

Sometimes you do need to discredit the Referees though, or at least question them for two reasons.

1. To hopefully get them to improve

2. Corruption (which is always a possibility)

And even if you don't agree with Arteta speaking out, I think that we can both agree that Gary Neville calling Arteta's comments "dangerous" is just a tad OTT?

No, he is now hurting the game. He is a petulant prick who is not just a bad loser, he is a terrible loser

How is questioning incompetent Refereeing harming the game though?

In other jobs these Referees would be sacked if they performed really bad like the Referee did in the Newcastle vs Arsenal match.

Don't get me wrong I think that Arteta is a hypocrite because he didn't have Klopp's back this season when it happened to Liverpool, but I do agree with him that ultimately standards of officiating in this country needs to improve.

I mean Managers get sacked for next to nothing sometimes, yet some Referees get to officiate in the Premier League despite being consistently terrible.

The decision to award Newcastle United's winning goal against Arsenal was correct, according to the Premier League's Key Match Incidents panel.

The five-person panel, which includes three former players and/or coaches, decided there was insufficient evidence to overrule the on-field decision to award Anthony Gordon's goal.

However, the panel ruled Arsenal's Kai Havertz should have been sent off for his tackle on Sean Longstaff, while Bruno Guimaraes should also have been shown a red card for hitting Jorginho.

The panel, which also includes one representative each from the Premier League and PGMOL, reviews major incidents to assess whether the eventual rulings, including video assistant referee checks, were correct.

They're basically trying to change the rules of the game after the fact, it doesn't look good for the Premier League.

And they've got it wrong.

1. The ball was out, that's just a fact.

2. We've seen penalties be given that have had less contact than what Joelinton did in the build-up to the goal, so something doesn't add up in the Referee's decision making.

Either way the panel has chose to basically overlook both rules.

So was Udogie's. We wont get into it again, but if you think that Newcastle challenge was a bad tackle/leg breaker then you can't possibly say Udogie's wasn't either. That was my point on Monday. If you don't think jumping into a tackle, 2 footed, studs showing, and shin height isn't a red, then you can't be calling tackles like the one above a red card either.

6 minutes on the clock

Ref didn’t stop the play but also didn’t even have a word !
The same players seem to get away with murder

The majority of Newcastle United UFC
but mainly Joelinton ,

Fernandes and Martinez at ManU , Caicedo, Coufal etc etc.
There are others - they all get away with repeatedly fouling

I wish the refs would do extensive prematch research on all the players like Pierluigi Collina used to do

Yeah. I will say Chelsea did put in some crunching tackles today. I'd be a hypocrite is i didn't acknowledge Gallagher trying to kill a City player, can't remember who it was.

If we can hit Newcastle on the break i think we have a really good chance at beating them. It seems our counter attacking in the past 2 games has been much more promising!

Also, Jackson is a good finisher if you give him the ball at speed around the 6 yard box, which is fine by me.

I mean, even 3 years ago when he joined Chelsea he was 35/36, i guess not making him the captain the managers who have come and gone were probably looking to the future. I mean, yes James is injury prone, which is a damn shame, but without all those injuries he's got the potential to become a world class full back, and captain.

Mount was one we toyed with too, but he's just another massively over hyped young Englishman who will have an average career, and being an average player.

Erik ten Hag has been told his managerial reign at Manchester United won’t last much longer in a brutal assessment of his coaching abilities and overall tenure at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have unquestionably regressed this season on the back of finishing third and winning the EFL Cup last term. Man Utd have lost nine of their first 18 matches across all competitions. Three of the defeats have come in the Champions League, a situation that leaves them bottom of Group A with two games to play.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe primed to purchase a 25 percent stake in Man Utd, major change is afoot.

CEO Richard Arnold is the first casualty of those behind the scenes. Director of Football, John Murtough, could follow and is ‘vulnerable’, according to The Telegraph.
Ratcliffe will lean on legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson when making key decisions at Man Utd. Ferguson could have a say in who replaces Murtough, with six candidates already in the frame.

The Sun also claimed Man Utd’s playing personnel are in for a shock with Ratcliffe ready to sanction a squad ‘reset’.

Talk of Ten Hag getting the boot has also done the rounds, though most outlets insist the Dutchman will be spared.

I agree that it'll already be awkward, that's why Ramsdale's Dad making it worse isn't doing his son any favours with the club imo, after all Ramsdale only has to get past Raya who isn't exactly brilliant himself.

And Southgate is being a hypocrite imo, Henderson playing is okay even though he is playing in National League Saudi, but Ramsdale being number 2 at Arsenal could see him not being called up to the England squad?:conf:

I like Southgate and respect that he has done well for England over the years, but he needs to make sense when it comes to his process of picking players.

Everton have been working with the PL to sort this and they get this punishment. City have 115 charges, Chelsea offering mortgage length contracts and have been laundering money for years, and we get crickets. It's better to lie and cheat than to try and work things out.

Really hope Everton stay up, as this is shameful.

Money talks.

Just ask Newcastle when they "beat" Arsenal.

Or whoever targeted Liverpool against Tottenham.

Who would you want out of the three options to be your next Manager BOTS?

1. Frank Lampard

2. Steven Gerrard

3. Wayne Rooney (He should be sacked once he fails to beat the worst Championship side of all time)

I dont care who the manager is, they need to terminate the contracts of most of the first team players and start again

Michael Carrick is the obvious choice I would imagine

Expensive plan, but one that I agree needs to happen despite the expense short term.

I didn't include him in my list because he appears to be a competent Manager.

Even on the good run you've been on, you've conceded nearly 30 more shots in those games. Unless they can clean that up it could tail off towards a 6th place finish.

Interesting that the three teams who press harder and faster than all the others have horrendous injury lists

I blame Howard Webb for the state of our game now .. he’s fecked up VAR and he’s also told his refs to be far more lenient.. even allowing heavy / reckless tackles ,.

Yesterday saw another skilful player hacked out of the game ..

Villa’s Cash took Bentancur out intentionally
