I agree. It's just scaring demographics at this point for votes. They all run on terrible policies, so this is the last resort to keep most people content enough to show up to the polls. On most things, at least in the US, both parties will vote for the same broken solution to things... it's just the way they decide to tackle it so they can break it even more :laugh: It's who can break things faster in such a way the other party can't undue and when they have the vote again, they'll have even more power to break it further. I'm not even kidding. There's no interest in fixing the system at the party level, that much is perfectly clear. Seeing what happened to both Bernie and Trump with their attempts to flush either out of the system doesn't signal to me that they support the progressive/conservative wings of their own party... but happy to claim they are sheltering them while they each fight the culture wars on their behalf and take most of the blame for everything "gone wrong" these days. Problem with the US system is that while you can have a popular vote landslide... a landslide by the numbers that matter; remember Hillary beat Trump by nearly 3 million votes. Bush also (by a small margin, tbf) lost the popular vote in 2000, though he at least won it (by a similarly small margin) in 2004.

In theory, the whole of (say) California and New York state could vote Dem --every single eligible voter -- seeing Dems win the popular vote by a huge margin, and it would make no difference at all to the overall result.

It's actually really unusual for TV here to show anything completely uncut. Network TV in general and American news are shameless about the butchering and rebranding of content. Even movies that get reaired can get this treatment. TV was never a vehicle for authentic viewing of content because of all the commercials and other content that has to meets certain standards. That was always frustrating when they'd cut away from anything of detail I'd be interested in watching. They don't share anything for its informational content, it's to show what they want to show and generally its whatever they can milk for any other line items.

Little known fact maybe, but the BBC used to carry a certain air among Americans for having "authentic" (ie untouched) content compared to typical TV. Especially for news, but then there was also the shows. Just because so much of television here is watered down to its most commercial aspect. We could follow a whole series on our public channels and not be attacked constantly by ads. It was nice.

Anyway, if someone wants to watch something political in its entirety, that's what C-SPAN and the internet is meant for. For people who can stand to listen to these for hours on end. I don't care which candidate holds the "best parties", it's a matter of whether at this point they're even remotely capable of doing the job... which is seemingly fewer than expected.

TBF even mild anxiety meds would explain why his live appearances are less "lively" lately, they tend to address anxiety by muting adrenaline response and while that stops the physical symptoms of anxiety... it can also mute outwards expressions of excitement. He's a lot less agitated/animated in general.

And even for Trump, some serious anxiety about public speaking wouldn't be unusual after getting clipped by a bullet within the last few months, it's so recent that you wouldn't even consider it PTSD. Just straight up normal situational anxiety, given the circumstances.
