Two new "dangerous" characters will reportedly make their debuts in the fifth season of Lost.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Caesar and Ilanna will be recurring figures throughout the year, although no casting details have emerged so far.

Caesar is reported to be a "dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45" with an ability to charm people. "Alluring" European Ilanna is a decade younger and "possesses great intelligence, but [is] also dangerous".

Filming on the new season of Lost will begin on August 19, with broadcast currently slated for early February 2009.

Sawyer by FAR. Jack is just a crying little child. I never likes the hero in movies and TV series, I much prefer nastier people.

A lot of people think this now, I expect season 5 to get less viewers, but season 4 (last season) was the best IMO. It's finishing at the end of the sixth season though which means they have an ending in sight and aren't making it up as they along (which a lot of people though.)

I've been getting dozens of emails from people this morning about a short promo for Season 5 that aired during last nights election. Rather than try to email everyone with the same info, I thought I'd post it here.

At the end of the promo it states that the Premiere will be in January, which is a little earlier that we first suspected as well as stating that it's a 2 hr premiere. Now from my understanding and talking to some of the people at ABC that I know, it will be a 1 hr special/catch up show followed by the 1 hr premiere, and not a 2 hour new episode unfortunately.

Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof has admitted that the show's bosses are concerned about the effects of splitting up the characters.

The fourth season revealed the identities of the Oceanic Six through flashforwards, a group which manages to leave the island and return home - leaving the rest behind.

The repercussions for the fifth season led Lindelof to tell Sci Fi Wire: "We're concerned... I think everyone, writers and fans alike, feels the show is at its best when our characters are together, but the fact of the matter is that the story is constantly twisting and turning to keep them apart."

Lindelof also suggested that the split may only be a temporary measure that will work in the show's favour. "Let's face it, absence makes the heart grow fonder, but there's nothing sweeter than a reunion. Matthew Fox has promised Lost fans that the show will have a "global and epic ending".

I have only 4 episode left to watch. I liked that there wasn't so many episodes, I think the quality was much higher because of that and didn't drag on for to long with pointless twists.

I am very very very angry at the producers. I don't like the storyline, all the characters have lost their flow (only Sawyer is the same). It's too confusing: like we don't know if it's 3 years later from now on or 3 years ago.
We have too many different groups, they don't even finish a story before beginning another one.

I can't see where the producers want to bring us but it's not good or it must be something seriously spectacular which is why the beginning is crap.

Season 5 will be a huge disappointment to me, and thank God I'm not the only one who thinks it. I miss season 3 & 4.

I can't see where the producers want to bring us but it's not good or it must be something seriously spectacular which is why the beginning is c**p.

Season 5 will be a huge disappointment to me, and thank God I'm not the only one who thinks it. I miss season 3 & 4.

I think that will be sorted out around half way through the season. Ms Hawking told Ben that he has 48 hours to either get the oceanic six together and ready, or to get them back to the Island, so if he does do it then it should really be within the next 2/3 episodes that they are together.

Just finished episode 3, it was again confusing but a few questions were answered and the show seems to be coming together and going in a clear direction now.
A few of the characters, Desmond and Daniel in particular, are starting to really confuse me and i'm finding it hard to see how they fit into the story more and more

Just reading a re-view of the episode on DARKUFO, some interestings notes (Long, but definitely worth reading):

The presence of American soldiers explains many things we've seen throughout all five seasons: the M1 Garand rifles, the pineapple grenade Locke puts in Miles' mouth, the various WWII-era pistols and even Goodwin's Army knife.

Desmond arrives back at Oxford to find that the only thing standing between him and Faraday's laboratory is a fumigation sign and a very shitty lock. Pretty weak, unless he was meant to find that room. Funny how that guy shows up at exactly the right time, too. Dressed like the guy who mugged Nadia, he doesn't seem at all pissed off about Desmond being there. One informative and helpful conversation later he fades from my TV, leaving Desmond to continue his quest to find Faraday's mom. Was this guy sent by Widmore, or was he an agent of Ben? You make the call... because he certainly wasn't the janitor.

Daniel's mention of concrete may have solved yet another old mystery as well: Jughead could very well be what's behind the concrete wall of the Swan hatch. I remember Sayid saying something about the wall being warm, and the instability of the radioactive material could explain why a button needs to be pushed every 108 minutes.

Desmond really, really sucks at lying. Yet Penny loves him anyway, and now they're going to LA, setting themselves up for a reunion with the O6. I just hope Penny says away from Ben or there could be HIGH drama.

And what I found very interesting:

I think we've seen more than our fair-share of off-island agents. These are people who are "in the loop" - I mean that in more ways than one - and have been helping to guide the main characters through the current string of time. Take the butcher woman from last week. And now take the librarian from this week, who happens to be the very same woman (Jenna?) who Hurley hugs right before he gets on flight 815: http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-486-798.html She actually uses the phone and checks with someone named Hunter before letting Hurley on the flight, telling him that it's his lucky day. Was Hurley supposed to make the flight? The woman at the other counter didn't seem to think so. But Jenna helps get him on the plane, even after the Jetway closed.

Juliet is from the future ! That is why she knew about 'Ajira Airways' (Ajira is a made up airline to promote lost season 5, which on the website says didnt start flying untill 2009).... Ben and Richard must have recruited the others from differant time periods to serve differant uses. They must have got Julliet from the future to solve the child - conception problem, and thats also why all of the survivors didnt know what Ajira was when they discovered the bottles on the canoe (because it hadnt been invented yet!) The thing is Juliet musent even know, as she was nocked-out comming to the island and thats also why Ben wouldnt let her leave (because she was in the past) OMG!!!

They said in one of the podcasts - something like - that there are some locations in the world where the influence of the island extends... one being Ayres Rock in Australia - which explains the Australian healer who can use the healing power of the island. I wondered if The Black Rock moved through some sort of 'portal' that has a connection to the island to end up where it did.

Sorry to spoil your theory but Ajiria Airlines was operating before 2009. It was just that they were adding new destinations in 2009, which is what the websites/adverts were promoting.

I think we can safely say Juliet is not from the future. We saw how she was recruited in earlier flashbacks.

Actor Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin in ABC's "Lost," has said that the origin and nature of the Smoke Monster will be disclosed soon and viewers will even get a glimpse of its lair. Turns out the monster is as "old as the island."

Kim also cautioned against expectations that his character, Jin, will reunite with his wife, Sun (Yunjin Kim), even though Jin survived a freighter explosion and Sun returns to the island after escaping it.

Those events don't mean "they're particularly in the same place or chronologically in the same time," Kim said.

As for the atomic bomb that showed up in the "Jughead" episode, he said the show's producers rarely give something such prominence unless it counts in the island's mythology.

"That's a huge red herring if it's a red herring," Kim said, suggesting the bomb could help resolve plot points as the series ends in 2010.

Interesting theory from Dark UFO: (Spoilers if you haven't seen This Place is Death)

First, I don't think Christian has anything to do with Jacob. They seem to be two separate entities, with different agendas. Regarding the island, Christian admonishes Locke: "I told you to move it". Locke's words to Ben last season were "We have to move the island", so this could've been easily misconstrued by either of them. Ben had no way of knowing whether the order came from Jacob or Christian, because he'd waited outside the cabin. Still, I don't think this is the case. Ben wouldn't have made a mistake like that - I think he knew exactly what he was doing when he turned the wheel.

After scolding Locke, Ghost-Christian seems more interested in correcting the mistake than anything else. Looks like Ben might've busted up the donkey wheel when he flashed out of there. Christian needs the wheel fixed, which will probably fix the island in its present place and time. Judging from what we saw when Sawyer was holding the rope, the current time is pre-Dharma (no Orchid station) and sometime before the well to hell was built. I'm thinking way before, as in 4-toed statue time.

But Christian doesn't just want the wheel fixed - he wants Locke gone. He had instructed Locke to turn the wheel even before Ben snapped it off its axis. This leads me to believe he's afraid of Locke, and needs him gone from the island for good. But just as pushing the button wasn't Desmond's sole purpose, turning that wheel is not John Locke's destiny. He's got a much greater purpose, and I think Christian is trying to prevent him from fulfilling that role. I also got the weird impression that Christian couldn't care less whether or not Locke brought back the O6. I really think he just wanted him gone.

I also think Christian's refusal to help Locke stand was important. This is akin to Ms. Klugh not being able to help Michael in what he had to do. "It doesn't work that way, Michael". Later on, Klugh would even advise Mikhail against breaking "the rules". Manipulating Locke is one thing, but I think physically helping him is something Christian cannot do.

And the wheel chamber... it was interesting how they shot it. It seemed to be a reversal of the chamber that Ben was in - almost a mirror image - as if instead of it being the same chamber, we were looking at what was on the other side of Ben's donkey wheel. Sadly, when Locke grabbed the wheel he became a puppet once again, with yet another master pulling his strings. It's been that way all his life. One of these days Locke's gonna snap out of that role and do something all his own, and I've got the feeling evil cave-dwelling Christian will rue that day. That might be the day the real Jacob gets freed from his temporal prison, and all holy hell breaks loose. We'll just have to see.

And


This season, I'll bet Ben is quite astonished to see Locke turn up in the real world. Just as the O6 were never supposed to leave the island, Locke was supposed to stay there as well. And now that quasi-evil subterranean Christian Shephard has tricked Locke off the island by turning the wheel, he apparently cannot go back. At least not alive, which is why I bet Ben kills him. Going back to the island as a corpse... that might be do-able. Just ask the original coffin-dwelling Christian Shephard.

Just watched last weeks episode, it was probably the worst episode so far this season but still amazing. Lost is on top form this season and I like how the writers are being clever answering questions and actions which have been in previous seasons, makes me think that they have had it planned out from the start
Episodes 6 and 7 will be interesting because they are showing them the wrong way round after the writers decided it told the story better.

I'm not sure about the channel, I just clicked the 'television' option last week and there were a couple on the first page. And I think its on around 1.30am/2.30am.

Interview with Michael Emerson [Ben] about Season 5 [Contains mild spoilers]:

TVGuide.com: Has Ben's revenge mission against Charles Widmore been trumped by the getting the Oceanic 6 to return to the island?
Michael Emerson: I think Ben has not forgotten what Charles Widmore has done to him, and I think he's going to try to take care of that business at the same time as he's taking care of the larger mission.

TVGuide.com: With all this time jumping happening on the island, will we see young Ben again?
Emerson: Yes. In fact, now that we are sort of ping-ponging around in the time-space continuum, all those backstories are re-emerging in more important ways. And the characters are, to some extent, going to be recontextualized. I know Ben is. You're going to learn things about him that either mitigate or intensify some of the judgments you've made about him.

TVGuide.com: It's pretty hard to tell if he's good or bad on any given day.
Emerson: I think they mean you to be right there and not know. You may leave the series at the final conclusion still not knowing if he's good or bad.

TVGuide.com: Did Ben's little girlfriend Annie die in The Purge?
Emerson: We don't know. That's still up in the air, but I'm guessing that's one of the most burning questions of the backstory that I'm sure will be dealt with. We have so much bouncing around in time and space to do this season it will make you dizzy. It's also going to provide some thrills and chills. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: So you think Annie will pop back into the picture?
Emerson: Yeah, I think so. In fact, I may go so far as to say we may already know Annie. Have you considered that? I'm not speaking from knowledge of a script because that's not a thing that has been written, but stranger things have happened on the show. Everyone is more connected then they ever thought, and it's often by blood.

TVGuide: Maybe Ben has unknown relatives on the island as well?
Emerson: That's a good one. Or it could be a deal where maybe some people never escaped a time or place. Or maybe some people are no longer in control of the when of their lives. Our writers are smart sci-fi guys and they're going to push the envelope.

TVGuide.com: How about revisiting that crush Ben had on Juliet?
Emerson: I think it must be explained, or its end must be explained — the end of those feelings. You might want to put that in the file labeled "Stuff Ben Doesn't Have Time to Think About But May Be Able to Further Down the Line." I suppose it's possible, though, that the writers have made us understand that Juliet made her feelings too clear to Ben and the world, and he's moved on.

TVGuide.com: How often have your scenes crossed with Fionnula Flanagan's Eloise Hawking?
Emerson: Well you haven't seen it yet, but I've worked with her a lot. One of the tributes to the genius of our writers is they will introduce a character like Eloise Hawking in a one-off kind of deal and we all think, "Oh, that was an interesting side journey that we could have gone on and didn't." But the writers haven't forgotten about it. They've brought it back around so it dovetails neatly with what's going on.

TVGuide.com: Can you give us any idea on when or how we'll next see Jacob?
Emerson: Jacob seems to have fallen away from our consciousness. The show is so much more wrapped up in intermediary leader figures. There seems to be a whole raft of people Ben must answer to, but they're not as high up as Jacob. Jacob seems to have receded into the mist again — sort of mysterious and godlike. He continues to be much talked about, and ultimately is the force behind the island. And the island is changing. We thought of it as a rock in the water, but now it appears to be more of a movable organism now. So to be in charge of such a thing — what does that mean? These are questions I ask myself.

TVGuide.com: Do you ever find yourself just reeling after reading a script?
Emerson: I have read a couple of scenes in the middle part of the season where I've dropped the script while reading it, or I stood up and said, "Oh my God, they can't do that, can they?" And they can. They can do whatever they want. There are a couple of things that will just make your hair stand on end. People across the country are going to jump up off their sofas and scream, "No! No way!" I just love it. [Laughs]

I think Charlotte is too young, she may end up being his daughter though, because she did say her and her mum left the Island and she never saw her dad again.

Lostpedia lists Charlotte as being 29, and i'd say Ben is mid/forties, so it's possible.
