Should they seek popularity and acceptance by agreeing to discuss the art of lighting farts with Paul or engage in conversations that, clearly, provide insuffiient stimulus. There is nothing wrong with being bright, and the law of averages suggests that for every bright spark there is a dying flame,, as so ably demonstrated by this BB community.
It is far more honest and conducive to a healthy atmosphere to behave exactly like the person you are, rather than to adopt the guise of an intellectual -also-ran in order to fit in. It is patronizing and dishonest and it demands that you compromise your values and your integrity .
P.S. You provide a fine example of toxic anti-intellectualism

Thank you for the compliment
Being able to mix with a diverse set of people is a fine trait to have and the whole point of BB. If you find yourself unable to have a conversation with someone then it's always worth considering how you can change that rather than just sneering at them for being 'confined' to a lower 'intellectual and cultural milieu'. People are rarely the two dimensional characters that they are made out to be and everyone has something different to offer.
