There is a lot of resentment towards Germany and to the status quo in Europe, I agree with that, but lets not forget how far we have come since even a few decades ago. When the EEC was formed half of Europe was still living under the Iron Curtain and Germany itself was split in two. That's why to some extent it was always a political organisation because it was the latest attempt to try and heal the scars of post war Europe.

I hate to bring this up but I don't see that the EU is necessarily tied to peace. You only have to look at who started the two world wars. So if we didn't have the EU are you saying Germany would try to invade? (again).
