Default Told to pay £2.29 at the till for £2 garlic bread

So in Iceland there are garlic bread for 5 for £2. So I had the change ready, £2.

Got to the till and the guy said 'you're 29p short.'

I said, HOW????

He said, 'they're £2.29.'

I said nothing in Iceland is £2.29, it's all rounded up: £1, £2, £3, or rarely 50p...like £1.50. But mostly it's rounded up to the nearest pound.

So he said I had to pay the extra 29p. I reluctantly had to break into a ten pound note.

So it was afternoon a skeleton staff was on, couldn't find an assistant, then found the assistant manager creeping about. I said, 'HEY! I've just been charged 29p extra for a £2 product.'

We went round to the freezer and saw indeed they were £2 for 5.

He said, 'fair cop', and gave me an immediate refund. Some people would have just forgotten about it, as it was only 29p. But not me.

The dope who who charged me £2.29 never saw I got a refund, so he probably still thinks he is right.

In law if something is advertised say as £2, it must sell for £2.

And that's why you got it for £2, but you're making out the cashier was wrong when he wasn't.

I take it if a vampire was on the tills there would be a sign saying "no garlic bread sold at this till"?

Judging from my own experiences in retail, both him and his manager are probably laughing at the guy who kicked up a fuss over 29p.

Yeah it's really annoying when it says this price but when you get to the till it's different.

If your budget is that tight that a penny can make or break a purchase then you probably shouldn't be wasting money on Garlic Bread.

what kind of logic is that? sometime you pick something up and think you have enough then find you are 2p out or something you might get away with it in a corner shop you will have to put it back in a chain

They sometimes do. They let me off when I accidentally go over at the petrol station and I've only got cash on me.

Even if it's an extra 5p I feel gutted to have overspent. So I get you.
