For everyone trying to work out who killed Lucy Beale, you’re not alone in not knowing. In fact only four people know who actually did it, according to the producer of Eastenders.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins admitted to a UK newspaper that not one member of the cast knows the identity of the killer, and only three other people besides him know.

He told a UK newspaper: “The killer is known by myself and three other people [in the production team]. When they are revealed, we don’t want everyone to go, ‘Oh, I never guessed that.’

“We want everyone to go, ‘Oh that makes sense, oh my God, that’s upsetting.’”

the police originally think it's a mugging gone wrong but then realise her body was set up to make it look that way and they open up a murder investigation. Which makes it likely she was killed somewhere else and then moved to the woods.

EastEnders was the most-watched soap of the day, rising to 8.18m (34.6%) at 8pm on BBC One as Ian Beale was told that his daughter Lucy had been found dead. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 265k (6.0%) at 12.05am.

Following big promotion surrounding the Lucy storyline, the Walford drama was ahead of Coronation Street and also had its highest ratings since Alfie and Roxy's wedding on November 25.

Brilliant episode. I liked the balance between the comedy at the Carter's and Lucy stuff.

But spoiled by two things. Some strange attempt at giving Phil and Shirley another tedious connection. Phil suddenly loves dogs and knows how to save one? Please.

And then at the end, they managed to keep the episode low-key and very realistic but then spoilt it by allowing the Peter actor to do some melodramatic wailing.

They did the same with Danielle's death, Ronnie's OTT screaming made it laughable.

Tonight's episode was great. The only thing i didn't like was Peters over acting at the very end. Ian was just amazing, he really deserves some kind of award for this performance. I'm really glad it wasn't all upsetting and it had it's happy storylines too!

Great Ian / Phil scene..reminiscent of original Phil from 1990-1991.

When Phil arrived in Walford with Grant he was no saint but he actually had a kind side to his character. Grant was the more aggressive violent hot headed one. When Grant left Phil got "promoted" to aggressive violent hot head and became very 1 dimensional

Folks forget or more recent viewers don't realise that in the original Phil era he was kind to that alcoholic woman he met at AA, ok he wanted to bed her but he initially respected she was in a relationship, that he rescued married his first wife the eastern European bint because she needed to stay in UK, helped the frizzy hairdresser and even when she double crossed him he left her off the hook and she double crossed him again.

it's starting to make sense to me, i think that Walford really will change forever. i see the producers using Lucy's death almost like a fresh start for the show. They are using different, interesting shots and make it feel fresh again. I see major relationships between alot of the changing, and with [look at spoiler] coming up too it's going to be an interesting year for Eastenders.

I agree, Enders have upped their game, it feels fresh. The newer characters are all good and the regulars are evolving, showing more 'sides' to them. I'm really enjoying it.

Exactly, it's annoying that people only want nicey wicey characters. We are supposed to enjoy disliking these characters. If the whole show consisted of Abi Branning it would be dull. Besides actors now realise that less than nice characters get the biggest storylines eg Den, Phil, Stacey, Janine etc. They struggle to find character based SLs for the likes of nice girls Poppy, Abi, Honey, Alice because they are unlikely to do anything really bad unless they change the character in the case of Alice. Which is why - frustratingly - i think the likes of Kat, Lauren, Janine, Stacey and Bianca get the bigger storylines over the Alices, Abis, Honeys and Little Mo types

Every other actor it seems wants their character to be nastier and darker - which is why Sam Womack returned and what Nitin Ganatra said when Mas went off the rails. It's basically why I think the actress who plays Katy in Corrie (Georgia May Foote) was axed as she admitted in various interviews that she found the character's writing and SLs a bit boring '...bit of a wet mum' and slyly decided to play the character gobbier and snarkier

Like the Aleks/ Tosh/ Jake flatshare set up even though Jake leaves soon.

It's ridiculous and boring too only have family units, especially as quite a few young people move away from home. ee had flat mates at the beginning in 1980s and glad this is back as it allows characters in different storylines who would never have scenes together (tosh and jake or aleks and tina) to interact. Glenda and Carol's brief flat share was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of family units.
