...awww, I know..I don't live close to my mum and when I feel a bit low or anything, I always phone my mum ...a telephone hug from your mum.....
 aww this made me smile. Never a truer word, I used to be on the phone to mum at the drop of a hat, for a grumble if need be, or to share something funny I'd seen or heard. And to discuss Corrie and Eastenders  little things like that are the loveliest memories. It's a comfort cos I know exactly what she'd say in any given situation :)
Kate!

....awwww, Kate....the good thing I find though..(with my dad..)..is that whenever I really need him to advise me on something in a way that only he could, I think about it and somehow his voice is still there because really I know what he would say from a lifetime of knowing him, so he's never really left at all...
Kate!
03-03-2014, 06:30 AM
Yes, that's spot on Ammi. I can hear her tone in my mind, and as mentioned it's a great comfort. I woke this morning and came on here, the first two posts I read were yours and one from lostalex which I've put in my sig. Both really really made me smile.
You all set for work then? The weekends seem to fly by don't they?
..yeah, I think that Alex is a very deep thinker.....it's my day off today Kate, so I'm going to rock n roll and do basically nothing..:amazed:..I did have a very busy and productive day yesterday though so I don't feel guilty at all...

Kate!
03-03-2014, 06:45 AM

[Ellen Degeneres. She ruined it. I positively LOVE Ellen, and yet she ruined the show by turning a glittering movie tribute--an annual ceremony dedicated solely and exclusively to the motion picture industry--into a version of a television show! Ellen did the one thing she knew how to do: namely, be a TV host. Incredibly, she treated this gathering of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science members as if they were a daytime studio audience, a TV game show audience.]

Ellen Degeneres. Incredibly, she treated this gathering of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science members as if they were a daytime studio audience, a TV game show audience.

My stomach feels sour :(
I had stomach problems as well. Thank god i feel better now.
Four years ago I had a tutor who was really brilliant at his job and I filled out a feedback form saying he was the best tutor I'd ever had and he'd really made me passionate about an area of studies that I'd never been interested in before. Fast forward to now and I'm writing my dissertation about that topic and he's been made a full time lecturer at the university. I like to think my feedback form is part of the reason why he was employed as a lecturer, I've never written so much on a uni feedback form before in my life, all of it positive. I'm including him in my acknowledgments for my dissertation even though he's not been part of the advising process.
I'm wearing a pair of size 34 jeans, can't believe they ever fit me, having to wear them with a belt because without one they just fall right down to my ankles LOL. So pleased with my weight loss over the last 8 months :D

I still have a long way to go but I'm so much happier with the way I look now, it's making it all so much easier to keep going. The better you look, the better you feel, generally. I'm going to start going to the gym once the semester is over and I've finished all my course work.

I couldn't agree more, it really does help raise your confidence levels. When rummaging through my documents I found a picture of a load of us at prom, I felt sick  and I need to join the gym again, there's only so much dieting can do for you afterall :)

I've not bought bread, butter or cheese since August. I'll have the odd sandwich now and then from a supermarket but I think that was really the main source of my weight gain. I've just been eating a lot of veg, cutting out the crap, getting a half hour of exercise (usually walking; was tennis in the summer) every day and not snacking. It's been gradual but I think I've lost about 2 stone now. I've still got a bit of a chubby face though which is annoying me, I'll only really be going to the gym to get on the treadmill to shift the weight from my cheeks, once that's gone I'll be pretty happy!

I'll just try to eat healthy and go for a walk on my days off. I hate going to the gym. .
I'm very aware of the fact that if I don't get my ass in gear now, it'll be a lot more difficult to do it from July onwards when I'm working full time. When I move back home I'm going to have to insist on making my own meals; my mum is notorious for making lots of food and insisting that all the boys eat everything and barely touching it herself, I don't want to say she's the reason I'm fat because that's down to me but it makes it so much more difficult to keep the weight off when your own mother's insisting you eat or food'll go to waste.
Kate!

I'm starting the gym next week, determined to get more healthy. My fitness levels aren't as good as they used to be although they're reasonable as I walk a lot and take stairs rather than escalators (I'm afraid of escalators)
Also I'm on day 3 of my no alcohol pledge, I'm going to try and continue to stay off it for Lent.

Not a bad idea. Definitely viable. Needs to accommodate workers though, and take into account travel costs for others. Some local health authorities offer free gym memberships for people on low incomes for 6 month periods through Doctor referrals, my town don't offer it (quelle surprise ) but it's a really good thing and worth people looking into.
I love the gym, used to go regularly (way back in the mists of time) and have a swim as well. Love swimming.

I like running on the treadmill, I can sort of lose myself in it and easily go half an hour - an hour once my fitness levels are up. I don't feel that running outside is the same thing at all, I'd find that embarrassing and difficult to do because you may have to change your pace due to terrain or external factors. With the treadmill it's repetition and there are no surprises.

My sister likes running, but i hate it. Prefer walking.
When I went home at the weekend I planned on seeing my older brother and confronting my parents about it. In the end I was having such a nice time at home with my parents that I didn't want to upset the balance. Really going to need to man up and do it when I move back home, it's gone on long enough :/

Yes exactly that. I mean it's not like that's the reason I'm overweight, I could just exercise more to cancel it out, but I feel if I was always in charge of what I eat (as I am when I'm away at uni) then my weight is entirely manageable. Not the case at home.

I think being fat as a teenager and having the motivation to lose that weight as a young adult is a learning curve that sets you up for knowing how to manage your weight for the rest of your life; compared to people who get fat as young adults and don't have the resolve to lose it because they were always thin and now they're not.
Jake.

Ah that's not a bad view actually
Like even on here we have Lewis and Conor who have posted really inspirational weight loss pictures; they had weight problems as teenagers and now that they're young adults they've taken the steps to lose the weight. Compare that to someone who was naturally skinny as a teenager but a combination of drinking too much, bad eating habits and a lack of exercise has left them overweight and they've never had to battle that problem before and often don't have the motivation to do anything about it. I just know so many people (myself included) who have battled hard with their weight after years of being overweight as children/teenagers and have managed to lose all the extra weight; and so many people who went to uni, got really fat and barely leave the house anymore because they're so mortified by what they've done to their bodies.
